I ordered the fried chicken dinner with fried okra and mashed potatoes and gravy. I knew I was in trouble when the food came out instantly. The okra had obviously been fried a looong time ago....just. Like. The. chicken. The chicken was shrively and had that heat lamp warmth to it. Fried chicken is so easy, not here. I was starving and ate the chicken and okra; which now I regret. The mashed potatoes and gravy were inedible, just gross. The corn bread was also really weird. This meal could shave been good but it's obvious that the kitchen staff doesn't care about their jobs. The server was a nice kid, I tipped 20%. The bad food wasn't her fault. In spite of the current requirements to limit tables for customers , I had no wait time at about 1 pm. It did seem strange to sit isolated with so many tables marked 'unavailable' . The staff was exceptionally pleasant; obviously happy to be working again. I ordered Southern fried chicken, carrots & green beans, which were served hot AND fresh, almost before I had blinked. My waitress was especially courteous and helpful. Not a complaint from me; although there never is for eating here. The gift shop was well stocked, but too picked-over for my sizes. Four of us went out for breakfast, and it wasn't the best experience. My father-in-law ordered coffee, and they brought the coffee pot but did not bring his coffee cup. The waitress said she'd be right back with it. We waited about 15 mins for her to come back to the table, and she didn't bring it so we had to ask for it again. When our food came out, all of our hash browns were cold. My mother-in-law ordered scrambled eggs with her meal, and they were not fully cooked. A section of them were runny. They were nice and brought us all out new hash browns and brought her new eggs. On a positive note, they give you unlimited free bread (toast) when you buy a meal. They also have new flavored coffees with whipped cream. Overall, the food was alright, but it wouldn't be my first choice for breakfast. read more

I went in this restaurant yesterday to order food for a funeral. The man that helped me was the nicest person. They were really busy but he was patient, helpful & so understanding. I was emotional at the time & he showed empathy for my situation. He helped carried the food to my car. I wish I knew his name but my thinking was not good at the time. I was thought that he was the manager but he said he wasn't but he was working on becoming one. If I was running a business of any kind I would definitely want this man working there. He went above & beyond for me. As it is hard to find good help in the food industry right now the Cracker Barrel in Kokomo, IN needs to keep this employee & I would pay him as much as possible to stay. My mom, the vegetarian, franchise-loving person that she is, wanted Cracker Barrel. There wasn't one to one found off of the interstate path that we were traveling. So, we ended up going an hour out of the way to eat, so that Mom could eat the same things that she always does. The four vegetable/side meal is her go to. I think I've tried every item on the menu at some CB location or another. They have a different highlighted or featured lunch and dinner meal each day of the week. The Monday lunch special was chicken and stuffing... served until it's gone. Guess what? I found out that it was gone. So I resorted quickly to the fried chicken salad. Usually my go to salad there is the cobb salad, but I was feeling the need for something different. While I do love CB's chicken tenders (which is what tops the salad that I ordered), I still would recommend the cobb salad over it. Side note... the Sunday featured/specialty meal is fried chicken, it's not the same as the chicken tenders that tops the fried chicken salad. If you're there on a Sunday, and they haven't run out, you're in luck. My parents raved the corn bread and biscuits that arrived upon request, prior to our meals. Sometimes the bread isn't cooked right and Mom and Dad know their Cracker Barrel, so they start the judgment of each location based on the pre-meal bread. I don't know if we just picked the wrong time to stop in (between lunch and dinner, so it wasn't too busy) or if this is the norm for this location. Service was great and the location itself is clean (though all the signs make this seem really close to the highway if you're coming from the north, even though it's really quite a few miles into town) but the food left a bit to be desired. The biscuits were dry and the butter was frozen. Frozen butter is fine as long as the food is warm enough to melt it, but unfortunately it wasn't. Most of my family got the chicken and dumplings, but mostly got dumplings and not a lot of chicken. I had an item off of the seasonal menu (fresh strawberry french toast) that was pretty good, but not really life changing. Met the family here on Thanksgiving day for dinner around 5 pm. It was packed but our server greeted us right away and remained attentive throughout the whole meal; she gets five stars. Bang for the buck gets four stars, portions and accompaniments are generous. All of this is held back by food that is a skosh on the bland side. Not bad by any means, just lacking some seasoning. Thanksgiving morning breakfast traveling to see family. Our server was excellent. She was so pleasant and served us perfectly. I took off a star for waiting at the hostess stand for awhile before we were seated. Minus another star for incredibly weak coffee. It was quite watery. Minus another star for the fire in the fireplace or rather the smoke that was rolling out from it and filling the dining room. I don't know if the damper wasn't opened properly or what was going on, but we spent the day smelling like smoke. It was in our hair, clothes, and our pores. I literally love Cracker Barrel in my eyes they can do no wrong lol. The Wednesday night special in my opinion is the greatest thing they serve, followed closely by the grilled chicken strips and hash brown casserole. Back to old problems at this location. We walked in at lunchtime. It wasn't at all crowded; no one else was waiting to be seated, but we waited several minutes before a hostess showed up. We were finally seated, and then we waited more than 5 minutes for our drink order to be taken. We ordered our food as soon as the waitress arrived to take drink order. Food was good, but my husband asked for water refill when she brought check. Waitress said she'd get the pitcher. Ten minutes later, still no sign of waitress. We left. good food, great service. On a road trip, I left my daughters winter coat at this indiana Cracker Barrel. I only realized it was at cracker barrel when we where back home in northern vermont. I asked if I could somehow pay them to ship the coat back to me. They sent the coat back to me on the house. Not only that, I think this is more than one nice manager. The manager said she had to call someone at corporate to see what to do about shipping the coat. For thier great service they have one me over as a customer. unfortunately, I think the nearest cracker barrel is in Boston four hours away. read more

I am by no means a Cracker Barrel expert. To be honest, I have only dined as this establishment a few times before. A great majority of those times were spent in other states. However, I prefer this restaurant to the others. The food was good. I like the chicken and dumplings. While it is not as exquisite as a steak or tuna casserole, it was still enjoyable. My server did a good job, however, I felt bad for the people sitted behind me who had a different server. Their server kept on disappearing on them; it got so bad that they got up and left (which I can't blame them because I would, too). But my experience was different from theirs, thankfully. I would return to this location. A piece of advice is to come during the slow hours as opposed to the busy ones to avoid a problem such as my comrades'. Four out of five star experience. read more

We have eaten here several times. The food is good and the manager is friendly and present in the restaurant. However waitress Jessica was very insistent on a recent visit that they could not do well-done turkey bacon (which we both order every time). I don't care, Jessica. Burn it. Omg I drank 4 glasses of water there to get the salt taste out. Another 10 when I got home. I was so sick from one bite. They must have emptied the salt into the graveyard they used with the turkey. What I love best about Cracker Barrel is that they are all the same and food is always good. I always get a ham and cheese omelet. Which is not on the menu but they always make them for me.
