Very unfortunate as our family was really hopeful to stop for a bite during out 7 hour ride home to have to wait a while before acknowledge at the host stand to be seated. With two kids ready to eat once seated we ran out of snacks to keep them occupied. They weren't misbehaving but definitely getting antsy and hungry. No one stopped by to acknowledge our table for 25 minutes, not even for a drink order and servers were standing around talking while the restaurant was not that busy. We decided to get up and leave as we felt ignored and unvalued, as tables we're being assisted who came after us. Upon packing up and getting ready to leave that's when someone finally asked if we've been assisted. This really killed our excitement for the chain and will not be returning to this store. We had the absolute worst experience with Cracker Barrel today. We had a meal catered for our church today. Advertising states that they cater a meal hot and ready to eat. What we got was far from ready to eat. We got cold mashed potatoes in an aluminum pan, cold Mac and cheese the same way, dry breadcrumbs called "dressing" with scant amounts of broth to put on ourselves, and hams frozen in their packages. Not even close to ready to eat. Needless to say, many of us at church had to miss the kids program in order to cook the food we had catered from Cracker Barrel. Our Pastor called to lodge a complaint and was told that they "don't have the capacity to heat all of that food". So why do you advertise that it's hot and ready to eat. So normally I am neutral on cracker barrel. The food is hit or miss but the service normally exceptional. Tonight the exact opposite. Start with the positive. The food (roast beef and steamed broccoli) was outstanding. Broccoli steamed properly. Not raw not limp and yellow. The roast beef fork tender. The salad crisp and as good as any side salad ever is ..... however. It took a long time for anyone to notice us (maybe busy ... I wasn't too concerned). Then the meal came out before the salad and no biscuits..... then the salad and biscuits arrived a good deal later but she disappeared before I could ask for preserves. When she eventually came back and I asked for preserves and a refill on my drink .... She then disappeared again and returned by the time the biscuits were cold and rock hard. I love Cracker Barrel! However this last visit made me feel sick. The pancakes seemed singed and oily on the outer part. They weren't very soft or fluffy like. All else was good. Grandma's breakfast is what I always get. Not on the menu, but 2 pancakes, eggs, Hash brown casserole (never get regular hash browns again), and one each of the following meats: bacon, ham, and sausage. Service is decent. I've noticed that when we go and we're seated in the middle section, the food and service is mediocre at best. Not impressed with food or service. Waited a while before waitress came over. Waitress seems to be over stretched on tables. She would ask if we needed anything else as she was walking off so we had to ask multiple times do stuff, which caused her to walk back in forth many times because she couldn't just stand and wait. Did not get any bread, come to find out you have to ask for it now with is ridiculous. Got the Grandma sampler and all the meat in it was over cooked and dried out like it was old. Went to Cracker Barrel on I20 access rd and received horrible service. This was early Sunday morning 1/15. Our server was an blond elderly woman that was slow at best. We ordered waited requested coffee 3 times. I had coffee in the car so went and got it to drink. We finally received coffee with our food, no apology form our server. I thought the coffee was bitter and when she offered to top off my cup from home, I declined by saying my coffee was good. She then informed me they kept fresh coffee all day so it wasn't old. I didn't say it was old, I said it was bitter. Will be finding a new emergency breakfast place. read more

I normally love this restaurant however my visit on 8/25/20 in Longview, TX, was not very good. I ordered grandpa's big breakfast and the food was Luke warm at best. We were a party of 6 and the general feeling was the same from the group. We were not offered cornbread and biscuits as an appetizer as I am used to. The biscuits that came with my meal appeared to be made without any leavening agent. I didn't say anything because my teenage daughters do not like any unwanted attention however I definitely left the restaurant unsatisfied and $50 poorer. It took thirty minutes after sitting down to get our drink order and at this time we went ahead and ordered our food as we did not know how long it would be before we would se Our waitress again. While we were ordering our waitress sat down another tables food on a table next to them to take our order. We made our order she gave them their food walked off and they had to wait another 15-minutes to receive silverware. We received our food and the food was great. So the kitchen is doing right. But with all of the wait staff disappearing to the back hiding to the point multiple tables leave without even getting a drink order is hurting the restaurant and the servers tips. I have worked in the food business and attention to service is very important. Yes I knew Sundays were going to be busy but those were my days to make good tips. Also Cracker Barrel could go back to writing orders down and then putting in on a machine. Cracker Barrel is the first restaurant our family ate IN since March 13th and it was a great experience. The staff were all following CDC service recommendations by wearing masks and changing gloves after any cross contamination. Horrible service. We came in at 11 and was told the wait would be approximately 30 minutes, which is fine, so we waited. After an hour went by, still no table I asked the host how much longer and she said, "We only have one busser, but you're second on the wait list." So I watch 3 people get sat and 10 minutes later, my fiancé asked them how much longer the wait is. She then told him we were 3rd on the wait list. Happy, helpful, and uplifting. She turned my busy, bummer of a day into a happy experience. Christina has a sweet countenance that is written all over her face, and she truly loves to help people. We stopped here @ 9:00 am for breakfast this morning on our way to Dallas. The parking lot was packed, we put in our name and only waited 10 minutes for a table. Our server greeted as soon as we were seated, brought our coffee took our order and we had our breakfast within 10 minutes. My eggs were slightly over cooked and only warm but the rest of our meal was hot and delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive and every employee we walked past greeted us with " Merry Christmas ". All in all a very good experience and a great way to start out a road trip. Today was my third overall experience at Cracker Barrel and second at this particular one. I will just get straight to the point and say the food is not good TO ME. I don't think it is served to LOOK appetizing as far a plating & presentation goes and I definitely don't think it taste any better. The 1st time I went I ordered breakfast (french toast, eggs & bacon). I know for a fact I could have made everything on the plate much better. It was just...blah. The 2nd time (today) I had the chicken fried chicken, hashbrown casserole, mac n cheese, & mixed veggies (you get 3 sides). The gravy on the chicken is HORRIBLE. It's lumpy, thick, stiff and just has an odd taste TO ME. The hashbrown casserole & mac n cheese were OK but both were basically lacking in something. My mixed veggies came to the table with a hair in them...like literally in them not on top but IN. Needless to say I saw it immediately as the server sat it down and she took it back and brought another. Long story short I don't see myself ever going back here. I'd rather go to Cheddars or Cotton Patch and get the same thing for the same price with better taste and presentation. One thing I can say is the store area has some nice things and I love the candles, although it is overcrowded and packed to the max. My son ordered from the dinner menu and my wife and I ordered breakfast. Eggs were great. Grits cooked well. Biscuits were warm and fresh. Coffee was fresh and hot.
