My first visit ever to ANY Cracker Barrel. The ambiance probably appeals to the same crowd who loves Buccee's. We found the concept strange. But back to the restaurant aspects... Service was fine. Had to look around for the server to get more coffee, but she eventually saw me. Lesson to the chef: when eggs are ordered scrambled well-done, the eggs are supposed to be cooked ALL THE WAY THROUGH, not merely browned on the outside and wet on the inside. Bacon was crisp, as ordered. Sausage patties were rubbery (re-heated?) and had no tangible seasoning. Biscuits were more like fluffy bread than good biscuits. But they did bring butter. My parents enjoyed the pancakes. The sad little slice of orange that adorned the plates was... wimpy. Grits were horrendous -- watery and tasteless. Gravy, if possible, was even worse -- a smell/nuance of pork with no further discernible seasoning. The strangest point? On the menu, they discuss "All the Fixin's" as including "the best jams and jellies they can find" or something. Apparently, they couldn't find much of anything. For two people, the waitress at first brought out two single-serving containers of grape jelly. When I asked for something different, she brought one single-serving container of strawberry and one single-serving container of blackberry. Why so skimpy???? The best item: the warm little bottles of syrup, though it was 55% maple and 45% cane. Still good, and better than corn syrup. read more

Hey just a fair warning to the people of lufkin. I was an employee at this location for two years. I love the workers and they are amazing. However, the handling of food is where the issue is for me. The bread is touched by bare hands 9/10 times. I tried telling people to stop grabbing the bread but they wouldn't listen. It's to the point that if a Cracker Barrel employee sits down to eat they won't get bread because they know it will be touched by bare hands. Also the grill line usually does not wear gloves unless we are coming out of an inspection or about to have one. Same with hair nets. The cleaning solution to wipe surfaces is usually out of date and ineffective. Meaning it really is like wiping the tables and surfaces you eat on, with water. In addition to this, I have had managers ask and request me to over charge my guests at Cracker Barrel for items. For example, our mommas pancake is 8.99, and so is the price of 3 pancakes. I asked my boss, so do I try to sell them the full meal since it's the same price and my boss told me not to because Cracker Barrel is a "penny by penny" company and needs to prioritize profits. Which is very dishonest. In addition, our juice machines hardly ever get cleaned and build up a bad stench along with a nasty texture, I've seen mold growing on the machines. Your salads and potatoes are touched by bare hands most the time as well. People will also take food off your plates if they get hungry. The managers will probably deny all of this. But I swear it is the truth. Contact me anyone 9362388664. Great people there and definitely one of my favorite places to go. Amazing family up there. But you all deserve to know. I hope this gets it fixed. In addition to all of this...... I was sexually assaulted and the offender was at my table when I went to greet and say hi. I have a restraining order in effect against this person. And they started making fun of me. So I walked out that day and got fired for it. However, people walk out and no call no show all the time and have less consequences. This was last November of 2022. This November I had something happen to me as well. I am autistic but like not really bad like most people come to think autism is. But I can get forgetful from time to time. I was working just an ordinary shift and I made a mistake by forgetting a request I made to a coworker. I apologized for it immediately when they reminded me and they went on to get very angry with me over a minuscule mistake. They then said this is why they hate me. So I left because if I'm hated than ig im not welcome there. So since I was clearly unwanted and being mistreated unfairly, I walked out and once again have been fired. The waitresses be trying to fight me and all I do Is walk away. I give up with this company. They have walkouts all the time and these people don't get fired. It's no biggie to me, I'll find a new job. But it really is a story of morals. I would leave ten times out of ten and would recommend anyone else being harassed to leave as well. Oh and ps the servers touch dirty dishes all day and than pack your silverware barehanded as well they have an older crowd of folks and they aren't prioritizing good proper food handling. I really hope this opens some eyes out there. And gets action to be made. Like come on Cracker Barrel, I've done over 100 hours of free work for you all hands down and this is the treatment I get. Great meal, great waiter, fast service. Okra cooked perfect, macaroni good, cabbage good and cornbread and green beans good. Waiter came by 3 times to check on us. Tea also good. I have eaten at several locations across the country. Most of the time you get good food and service. This Lufkin location failed to meet their standard for service. 1) My drink stayed empty my entire meal 2) The meal should have come with three sides. A Cracker Barrel is the same no matter where you are. From California to Florida, if you've been to one, you've been to them all. As far as cuisine, Cracker Barrel really specializes in "comfort food" of the southern variety. Grits, chicken fried steak, that kind of stuff. If you stick to that kind of thing, you'll be OK, but don't expect to be impressed with anythign on the menu. It's all from a can and frozen. They serve breakfast all day, but honestly every breakfast I've had at CB has sucked. The eggs aren't good, the pork chops and ham steaks are cheap cuts of meat. Since there aren't that many options in Lufkin I have to make do, but I'd rather not. There's always a ton of people here. People also love the gift shop in front. My husband and I went here and after the waitress brought our food and tea, we never saw her again! We finished eating and finally went to the front and told them what we ate, and the fact we didn't even get a refill of tea or our ticket. Their reply was, "we are just having a off day!" Really?!? And they never offered to even take the tea off the tab. I was upset and walked away to keep from saying too much. Cracker Barrel, if you're having an OFF DAY, close the doors and lock them!!! I came with a party of 5 including myself on 7/18/15. We were immediately greeted by the hostess who seated us. Our waitress, Ashley G. came by and got our drink orders. She gave us plenty of time to look through their endless options of breakfast food on their menu. We came to the conclusion of ordering two sunrise samplers with the substitution of toast instead of grits, a strawberry french toast breakfast, and a kid's meal grilled cheese. When our waitress took our order, she repeated the orders to make sure everything was right. So when she did that, I expected our orders to come out the way we ordered it. Well, when we got our food, A LOT of things were missing from our orders. ( We know that most of the time, the waitress would inform us if some of the items are not ready yet and they are coming out..so we expected that. Mind you. ) But that did not happen.. She just put down the plates and we were waiting for her to tell us about the rest of the items. Nope!!! So our sunrise samplers according to the menu includes: Two Eggs* cooked to order with Grits Sawmill Gravy and Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits Served with Fried Apples, Hashbrown Casserole and a sampling of Smoked Sausage, Country Ham and Thick-Sliced Bacon. As mentioned above, we substituted one of the grits for toast. For that particular plate, it looked like they placed the smoked sausage on the plate and then took it off. You can see the grease imprint on the plate. We also didn't get the fried apples, hash brown casseroles or the toast. We had to ask and remind our waitress many times until we got it. When she brought out the hash browns, one of them were burnt and she apologized for it being burnt and set it down. She told us that she didn't want to argue with the cooks anymore and she didn't know why they took the smoked sausage away from the plate. She then gave us our check as if she didn't want to deal with us anymore. As for the kid's meal, it includes two sides. We got coleslaw and mash potatoes. The coleslaw never came out. We had to ask for that as well. The waitress told us that it needed to be made since they are out. So we decided to wait for it. I think it was the manager (he wore a blue button up) who came to our table to see how we were doing. We asked about the coleslaw status and he came back and got it quickly along with napkins and tabasco of which we were also waiting for. We mentioned to him how our waitress told us that it would of been a while for it to be made. He gave us a confused look as if it was never out in the first place. Then our waitress came back to our table and was surprised that we got the coleslaw!! I'm not sure if Ashley was just having a bad day with everyone or it was the cooks.. but it was not her day at all. Before leaving, we asked her for some to go containers..except we waited at least 10 minutes before we asked a different waitress for them who got them immediately. What's going on?!?! She seemed like she was spreading herself thin with just us and another table. Sad and disappointed with this experience especially since we raved about this place to our family since it was their first time. Ok the food was really good if it just depended on the food I would have given this place a 5 star, but I got a server named Joseph and he was very rude. He sat us order our drinks but we had to wait about 25 minutes for him to even order our food and then when he brought our food he never came back to even see if we wanted anything else. My husband and I organized and were traveling with a group of 50 senior citizens from Arkansas. We left the cruise port in Galveston and decided to stop here for a late lunch. I called and gave them a heads up that we were coming and even updated them on our arrival time when we were about an hour out. They were ready and waiting for us. They got our whole group in and out in less than an hour and a half. On top of that, one of our ladies in the group had fallen and suffered a pretty bad head injury before we left the cruise terminal. Paramedics got it wrapped up there. When we arrived at the Lufkin Cracker Barrel, it split back open. Their team jumped into action, the lady manager on duty, helped tend to her while yet another ambulance came. She checked on them afterwards and even brought her a plate of food on the bus. They all did a terrific job. And... they comped the bus drivers meal! Great professionalism at this store. Normally I am an EXCELLENT tipper. I always strive to support the food and beverage industry. I am a chef and know how hard the job is. I also normally don't use the race card or cry foul when I perceive something to be amiss, because that is truly MY perception. However, when my child makes reference to why our waitress didn't engage us in conversation like she was doing to ALL the other tables around us made me pause. First of all, AMANDA P next time think about how you treat customer's and especially when you see that we can see you engaging other tables in conversation. Maybe you have never had the opportunity to have a casual conversation with someone who doesn't look like you...although I saw other staff that didn't look like you. Hmmm. So when you stop to wonder WHY NO TIP WAS LEFT...reflect and next time you have the opportunity be fair and equitable when dealing with PEOPLE PERIOD!!! read more

The reason I am giving this restaurant one star is because of many reasons. One: all the workers looked too young and had little to no experience. Two: our waiter brought us the check before we were even done. Three: the management needs to do better fulfilling their customers. Example: I had water but received no offers to refill it after the water in my glass was gone. Four: we did not get a refill on our biscuits and cornbread muffins, although our waiter passed by several times. I hope that they see this review and fix these issues. My friends and I come here often. It is a decent place with good food. The servers usually get something wrong but they're usually very friendly. A couple times we had servers start telling us about their problems they're having with other tables or their personal life and that seems a little off-putting. It's better than fast food and I think it's better than IHOP. I think their pancakes are very good but their grits are hit-and-miss. read more

I've only ever eaten at this Lufkin CB... So I don't have any to compare it too. I've now tried it three times. I love the gift shop but haven't been impressed with anything else. Granted, I usually get a healthy breakfast of turkey bacon and egg beaters or egg whites... And I was telling someone that I wasn't impressed, to which they said, "well Cracker Barrell isn't known for healthy food." Which is probably right; Ok, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Tonight however, we took our in laws there for a Birthday dinner, and all the food looked either frozen or like something you could get at a school lunch cafeteria. The chicken fried steak was obviously frozen and came with powdered gummy gravy, same for hamburger patties that looked like they had been cut out with a cookie cutter...and the Mac and cheese was burnt; my nephew wouldn't eat it because of the black gunk in it. Go buy yourself a TV dinner and you'll eat better food than this. But, I know lots of people who rave about it... I'm just not going to be one of them. read more

This experience was okay. Cracker Barrel is usually one of my favorite places to eat, but today the food was not that great. The Italian dressing was tart and my salad was fair. It was not as fresh and crisp as normal. The crackers were a little stale and the Mac n cheese had an odd taste and it was cold. The worst part was that my fork was dirty, it had dried food on it. Poorly manage. Our waitress is never around, we only see her twice, that's when she brought the food to us and after flagging her to come so we can pay and leave. The manager finally showed up to address our complaint about the food, our pouch eggs we ordered soft and they gave us almost hard boiled eggs. Was very excited to go in to the restaurant for the first time with my wife. The hostess was very nice and sat us down and we waited 10-15 mins and not one person asked what we would like to drink, if we had been helped nothing and there was nobody in the place it want like they were just slammed busy. Great food, best I've ever had at a Cracker Barrel. Grits though we're not good. Service was very friendly and modern. This town is very open minded for a East Texas town.
