I'm writing to share my disappointment with our experience today on Valentine's Day. My husband and I arrived at 12:04 PM and were placed on the wait list. We were told the wait would be about 40 minutes, but we were seated approximately 50 minutes later. After being seated, we waited several minutes before anyone came to our table. When our waiter finally arrived to take our drink order, he seemed impatient and rude when we were still deciding. He then turned away from us and took the order of another couple seated nearby before finishing with us. About 15 minutes later, we finally received our drinks as well as 3 other tables. After waiting a 30 more minutes with no communication or update, we decided to leave. The other tables near us received their meals except us and there was no communication from the waiter. We understand that holidays can be busy and that staffing challenges can happen. However, the lack of communication, long delays, and the waiter's dismissive behavior made the experience especially disappointing -- particularly after spending nearly two hours waiting while hungry on Valentine's. I hope someone can look into what happened and help ensure better communication and service for future guests. Thank you for taking the time to read this. read more

I hadn't been in this place in a few years. The food is about the same. "Home cooking" it always does the job especially the chicken fried chicken. Dumplings, and hash browns casserole. Service was horrible waited over 10 minutes. 2 waitresses were playing checkers at the checker table. Another waiter walked by and no communication. I counted 5 employees doing nothing and definitely not waiting on tables And the food. Horrific. Not edible I ordered a new pancake. It was like a hard frisbee. I had gravy and biscuit. The gravy was cold milk. My husbands salad was yellow lettuce. He tried to dig around to find something to eat in it. It was 6 on a Saturday. The place was bare. The cashier asked how things were. I told him. Not good. We would not be back. He said. Do you want to speak to manager. He should have called the manager. Then said. I'll give yall a discount. I said. Sir. Arriving late and leaving early seems to be my routine but this time, I made room for dinner. Hooray! Warmly welcomed and brought to a table where I did one round of the peg game (I left two), my waitress took my order and it did not take long to arrive. Two blackened catfish filets with steamed broccoli and a salad. Hooray for keto. While their menu leans heavily into carbs and more carbs, there are some options. They do have a free wifi here and it worked well enough. This was a pleasant meal and afterwards, I was back into the Sprinter van. I've loved Cracker Barrel over the years, so this is more about constructive criticism. Haven't been in a while, but been reading the news stories about how Cracker Barrel is cutting corners on food quality, and sure enough, that's what we experienced last night, January 1st. The chicken fried chicken, which has always been good, was rubbery, tough and stringy. It looked like catfish and I'm not even sure what it tasted like. The chicken was superhot inside, like it had been microwaved, but the rest of the meal was lukewarm. My wife was underwhelmed with the turkey dinner. The dressing had bread in it instead of cornbread. It was old and dark. Do what you want with the quality, but let me know when you go back to the old ways and I'll come back. read more

We love going to Cracker Barrel and usually never have any issues. Unfortunately, the Rockwall location was temporarily closed, so we decided to visit the Mesquite location instead. I'd say the hostesses there could use a little customer service training -- they weren't very welcoming and seemed like they didn't want to be there. Thankfully, our waitress was wonderful and very attentive, and the lady who checked us out was super sweet! read more

I ordered delivery and they sent me old cookies. These were all the stale and hard. I went in for a simple breakfast of hashbrowns and eggs w veg. Usually wherever I go, I can order a veggie skillet or veggie omelette, not at Cracker Barrel. They had no vegetables to offer me at all except for tomato and onion! WOW. Very unhealthy menu, no vegetables, no gluten-free options and they have an inflexible menu that doesn't allow substituting for people with dietary restrictions. I ended up having to pay extra when I did not receive three items on the meal I was charged for. I let my waitress know there was a mistake on my bill and she said it's not a mistake. They don't allow substitutions and ringing it up À la carte would end up costing me more. I asked the manager if that was correct and she said yes it is that they don't set their recipes. My request for the correction to my bill wasn't regarding recipes, it was regarding improperly charging me for items I did not receive. Meat costs more than hash browns so it's not about the money to them either. The options were ham or bacon, toast, and biscuits and gravy, I got none of them but was charged extra for hashbrowns anyway. So I was penalized for eating healthy, and charged extra when I didn't get four of the items on the meal I paid for. I still tipped 25% because it's not about the money or was it the waitresses's fault. Do better Cracker Barrel! read more

Last time we went, about 9 months ago, the eggs were cold and the service was awful. But we decided to try it again. So we put ourselves on the wait list in the app that said a 5 minute wait. We got there and the greeter said "oh we don't use the app" and directed us to stand in a 20 minute line. So it looks like the operations problems persist. I think we'll not go back at this point until they've had their bankruptcy and reorganized. read more

i visited this location with my brother and sister. this was one of the worst service experience i've ever had. our server took over 15 minutes to bring water and take our order. someone else noticed we were still waiting and took our order for her. we got our food 45 minutes after walking into the restaurant, but they only served my food and my brothers. they told my sister they were out of pot pie AFTER they brought out the rest of the food!! my sister sat there with nothing in front of her while my brother and I waited with our food getting cold in front of us for another 15 minutes while they made her a replacement meal. we ended up packing it all to-go and just left. i rarely give 1-star reviews but this experience deserved it. it's more worth it to drive up to the other north dallas locations than eat here. read more

On 5/5/2024 at 2:10pm. I visited your Mesquite location on Galloway and I635. I went in to place a ToGo order since calling the order in wasn't an option due to takeout service being backed up per the hostess at the front door. The hostess called for a ToGo server and ask me to wait close by the cashier area in order for the server to find me. After waiting about 10 minutes I ask the hostess if they had missed me since the store had people coming and going. She explained that the server did see me and was on her way. It took 20 minutes before someone finally came assist me. During my wait for a server, I attempted to try and place my order online (even though I preferred not to use online due to mistakes being made and preferring to talk to someone directly about my order). However, I wasn't able to place it online due to issues with the website at the time. At 2:30pm a server came over and took my order. I ask how long it would take to complete. She stated that normally 10 minutes (for meatloaf) but it might be a few minutes longer today. 40 minutes later my order arrived. Needless to say, I was not very thrilled considering now, I'd been in the restaurant for about an hour. I summoned the manager to express my concerns. His response was a basic apology but nothing in the way of offering how best to alleviate my concerns going forward. What makes this situation more damning was there were a number of CB employees just standing around while the store was experiencing a rush. There employees standing in the general store area and I noticed some standing close by the hostess stand and near the kitchen area. Lastly, this food was for my 80 y.o. mother. Her request was meatloaf, plain mashed potatoes, okra, and greens. With cornbread, a side of gravy, and 2 peach cobblers. After getting home, I found the gravy on the potatoes, which was requested plain and there was no extra gravy on the side. (I saw the server write it down). The worst experience ever we've been here multiple times and by far the worst. We didn't even get our servers name because she didn't even introduce herself she was wearing glasses with highlights and was working tonight shift. She brought my mom Cold coffee I understand it was late but there was no need for that all we had our order ready to help the process go faster. She took my mom's order first my mom asked for the grandma's special with peach topping on her pancakes. She replied with we don't make that and then proceeded to say well we do but I'd have to charge you desert in the end she went back and forth and was like well I don't know what to tell you ma'am not even nice just acting like a jerk. we then say ok we'll just pass on anything tonight and she goes of perfect. I ordered the chicken and dumplings at 10:43 am and I was told they would be served to me by about 11:00 am. I waited for over an hour until about 12:00 am and food never came. We were told the manager was roaming outside so I did not get the chance to speak to him, but I do not know how that affects me getting my food. My friend got his food but he still waited a while for it. Our check was taken care of but it was basically only his food. I waited for over an hour being told multiple times my food would come out but it never did. I am very upset they wasted my time. Service was good. The food was literally tasteless. I ordered the roast beef. I got a plate full of fat with gravy on it. Returned that for meatloaf. It looked old and the top was crusty. By looked old I mean it was a dark brown so I thought maybe because of the gravy, but there was no gravy on it. I came for a good old fashioned meal after a long day at work. I was tired and just wanted to eat while reading. After a few bites and no taste I just decided to go. In the moment it wasn't worth the hassle. It was lunch time and looking for a place to celebrate our Top 10 placement at the World Food Championships! Since my dad flew in from Hawaii, I thought it would be fitting to take him for some country comfort food. He loves Cracker Barrel! I tried the Country Fried Pork Chops (Daily Special on Saturdays) with double broccoli. I love this even better than the Country Fried Steak. It's crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. Wish it was on the regular menu! My dad ordered Hamburger Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and coleslaw. He loved it! Being from Hawaii, hamburger steak is something we see on menus. It's just served with mac salad and sticky rice. Dad loves Cracker Barrel's Saw Mill Gravy so he went with the mashed potatoes. He was a happy camper! The hubby ordered one of his favorites, Southern Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Service was great! Well it was our anniversary and the family and I decided to be wanting Cracker Barrel. Country fried steak, Cracker Barrel. We order takeout, my husband and I go get it, we come home and find we have NO gravy anywhere in our order. You can't have country fried steak without white gravy, come on! I called the store to let them know I was missing my gravy, I was immediately put on hold for the manager. I'm on hold for at least 5 minutes when the manager gets to the phone. He proceeds to tell me to look everywhere in my order because they put gravy in a separate bag. I tell him that I did look and assured him there was NO gravy. He puts me on hold and by the time he comes back, I am now on the phone 10 minutes and my dinner is definitely cold. He now tells me that his server said she put the gravy in the box with the biscuits. I laugh and ask him if he is serious. Mind you, I've spent nearly $100 + $20tip. I asked if he was calling me a liar. Over Gravy! At this point the conversation goes sideways. There is no excuse for a manager to go back and forth over 10 minutes because of gravy. On top of that, he's accusing a customer of lying over gravy, instead of correcting the problem because "his" server forgot the gravy. Needless to say me and my family won't be back after over 15 years. We will travel to Rockwall. Thank you for no gravy! And it was Really offensive to be called a liar by this manager. read more

This branch needs some serious management level training. We just waited 2hrs to get served. It was 70mins waiting, then another hour to get our food. Once food came we found several missing orders so we couldn't really enjoy the meal. As we worked thru the meal service got worse and crankier. There were lots of seats so I was initially guessing it was a staffing shortage. However the issues still persisted after it was just a few people. Waiter was frustrated at me. Manager gave me excuses. I didn't need any of those i just wanted to eat the food we ordered. Plus there were enough seats that we really didn't need to wait 70mins to get seated. We love Cracker Barrel but sadly this is the only one along our daily routes. I wish we could avoid this. We will probably explore other alternatives. read more

Only giving 2 stars for the waitress Melanie who was so sweet and really tried her best to give us a good experience. The food was not good. I mean i definitely know what cracker barrel tastes like i've been to multiple locations and it's always been so damn good. But this location was so bad tbh, I couldve gone to Mcdonald's and had a tastier breakfast. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING had salt not the eggs, gravy, hash brown casserole i swear nothing. It was so weird cause seriously there was no seasoning on anything. And as yall can see the bacon was borderline burnt. Not only was the food super wack it also took a long time to get it. Located on the corner of 635 S and Oates Dr. A good place for southern style food. I've been a few times and always found service and food consistent. I never crave this food, but I'm never opposed when someone wants to go here. To me, the food is a step up from Diner food so I never quite feel satisfied after eating it, it's just OKish. Last time I went, I had their Chicken Fried Steak: A generous portion of USDA Choice steak breaded and deep fried, topped with Sawmill Gravy. Served with choice of three Country Sides and hand-rolled Buttermilk Biscuits or Corn Muffins. My sides were the Hashbrown casserole, macroni n'cheese, and mac n' cheese. I really didn't like the hasbrowns as they were way to watery for me, had the consistency of watery rice. The mac n' cheese and mashed potatoes were OK. Their Corn Muffins are pretty good. The best part about this place is their front store where you can buy all kinds of snacks, nik naks, sweets, and toys. So it's a great place to bring a kiddo. read more
