The mashed potatoes was definitely a mix very lumpy and not well mixed with water or milk or. Gravy definitely premixed either frozen canned or a powdered. I don't care how the fried apples are made. Arrived on a Sunday morning around 7:45. Sign was up to wait to be seated. Restaurant was not very full. Waited perhaps 5 minutes, had to ask a cashier if there was a hostess. She took us to our table. Gave is menus, the one I had was souled with pancake syrup. If I was alone that would have been it. Traveling with my wife and mother in her 80s. A couple that arrived after us was visited by the waitress first. Then she came to our table. I had to repeat, you know slow it down for the waitress. Bacon and eggs over easy, sourdough and gravy on the hashbrowns. Coffee was great. Food arrived. Toast was dry. I don't normally use jam or jelly so didn't think to look in that dish for butter on the side. Gravy was missed. Wife had a side of hashbrowns, small serving. Mom had biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were white, like perhaps could have been baked another few minutes. Gravy was on the side. Portions on mine were small but honestly enough. Gravy had a pasty or floury texture. We were staying in town as we passed through during a road trip. We needed to get on the road ASAP but needed a good breakfast first. There were waits everywhere since it was a Saturday morning, but there wasn't a wait here and it was just a 5 min drive so we decided to check it out. ***THE RESTAURANT*** I believe there was a call-ahead list (not a reservation, but an option to get in line) that we got on so the minute we walked in, they were calling our name. This was an awesome option! The menu for breakfast was huge! I cannot believe how many options there were. They were all pretty basic, traditional breakfast items you would expect which sometimes is just really nice, especially when you are travelling and just want something basic that you can count on. Their hashbrowns are gluten-free which is exciting because they are great to mix in with scrambled eggs, which is what I did. There was NOT any GF pancakes. The service was great. Each person that we interacted with was friendly and happy to help us. The server was always there when we needed her and checked on us often. The ambiance was fun with all the old school signs and items on the walls. The food came out pretty quickly which was nice since we were in a hurry. ***THE STORE*** The store is more of a boutique than a gift shop. When I think of gift shop, I think of souvenirs. I was actually looking for something, anything that said Montana on it and there was not one single item. But there were a on of super cute clothes, accessories, things for the home, etc. The store is definitely worth checking out and spending some time in. Yes granted you do have to wait a while but once you get in your greeted with great service and a clean welcoming environment. All of us love the cheesy hashbrowns everything comes out, hot and fresh and really if you think about it compared to other places that serve breakfast they're reasonably priced. I will start by saying that I haven't been to this location in at least 5 years. I will also say I worked at this same location in the early 2000s, I think it was over two years of employment there, in the end, I was a shift supervisor, store opener as well. I can say, in all honesty, my experience there was not good.! I understand it was a holiday weekend, and the place was busy, but not busy enough to warrant the slow service, cold coffee, nor the cold food I received after an unreasonable amount of time. Sadly, after eating what I could, (not much at all) l ran into an elderly friend, and his family, pure coincidence, outside, as I was leaving. Unfortunately, he told me that they had the same experience! Almost EXACTLY THE SAME THING THAT I HAD, excessive wait time, cold coffee and COLD FOOD! He told me his dinner was COLD CATFISH, and his daughter was not happy either, she is a very good waitress and has worked at her place of employment over 20 years here in Missoula! We chose this perfect venue for our large family brunch on the busy Friday morning of the Memorial Day weekend . The hostess called us to our table after giving us only ten minutes to visit their inviting old country store, so we had to continue our shopping there after we ate. Our service was attentive, warm, and friendly. The servings were generous, and refills were just often enough. Their highly recommended specialty of Hashbrown Casserole was a hit all around. I also enjoyed grandpa's breakfast of chicken fried chicken with old fashioned biscuits and gravy, which really filled me up! DON'T EAT HERE MISSING FOOD ITEMS So I'm from out of state however, working here in Missoula Mt. 10/12/23 I ordered by calling in and I picked up my order. I placed an order for 2 dinners to go. The 1st meal I ordered country fried steak with 3 sides, mash potatoes, fried okra and steamed broccoli. The country fried steak, fried okra, mash potatoes and steamed broccoli was great with meal #1. The 2nd meal I ordered the hamburger steak with 2 sides, loaded baked potatoe and steamed broccoli. The steamed broccoli was great with meal #2. However the hamburger steak was dry and the ONLY condiments I received with the loaded baked potatoe was the bacon and cheese on top. I didn't receive the butter, chives or sour cream. 10/15/23 I walked in to the store to place my order. I mentioned the mistakes from my first order to the employee who was taking my order. I again ordered 2 dinners to go. The 1st meal I ordered the fried catfish, turnip greens and mashed potatoes. The turnip greens were good. The fried fish had a taste of dirty frying oil and was a very small piece of catfish. The mashed potatoes were very dry and had very little gravy. The 2nd meal I ordered country fried chicken, loaded baked potatoe and turnip greens. The baked potatoe was great. The fried chicken had a taste of dirty frying oil. And I didn't receive the turnip greens, PERIOD. I have restaurant cook experience. I've used a frying oil filter machine. I would suggest either filtering your frying oil or changing it out. And for the missing side of turnip greens and missing condiments for the loaded baked potato I would suggest that you not simply sign the quality check field on the receipt. Instead do your job and perform a quality check. I've recently deleted the pictures and an unable to recover. read more

This is my third review for Cracker Barrel and I'm still pretty much obsessed. While there is a time and a place for fancier, upscale dining, I am not afraid to admit I prefer simple and hearty home-cooked food over anything else. There is just something so comforting about it especially in the current times we are in. I can't speak for other Cracker Barrel locations because the Missoula location is the only one I've ever been to, but I have never had a bad experience here. I think one of the things I love the most about it is that it doesn't feel like a chain restaurant at all. It almost has a small town diner feel to it and I am in no way against that. I seem to order the same things when I go; biscuits and gravy, bacon, and hashbrown casserole for breakfast, and chicken and dumplings for dinner. The dishes are always consistent and arrive at the table hot and perfectly cooked. By the way, if you haven't tried their biscuits.....you are missing out! The waiters/waitresses are always very friendly and we never have to wait long for our food. I am always full when I leave thanks to their larger portion sizes. With that being said, I can never leave without first buying something from the store. The items are constantly changing and I can always find something or other that I have to buy. If you are from the Missoula area and have not yet dined here, I encourage you to give them a try. The food is delicious, the portions are big, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly.....not just sometimes, EVERY time. If you aren't from here and are curious as to how locals feel about this chain restaurant, well let me say that I know many friends and coworkers who feel the same way I do. They love it! Sadly, this CB is beat up and dirty. Restrooms head up the list of being beat up and dirty (floor is gross, toilets beat up and dirty) but not to be outdone by the dining room which is dirty (chair legs are beat up and dirty and there is a lot of crap on the dining area floor). I've been to this Cracker Barrel twice and both times had problems finding a hostess. Left without dining the first time and waited close to five minutes tonite. Hash browns looked gross and were greasy and not great. Portions were good on Grandpa's Breakfast and rest of meal was fine but the bottle of Tabasco that was brought to my table had no spout and, accordingly, I bathed my eggs and hashbrowns in Tabasco. Server said he was sorry but offered nothing to correct it. Details, details, details! This restaurant is not paying attention to them. read more

I love Cracker Barrel for a few reasons but one of them is because they r FAST. So many restaurants r so darn slow. The other day we ordered a burger and a chicken Alfredo and a restaurant. Seems very easy right? It took 45 minutes to get our meals. It sucks the enjoyment out of the meal. I don't even like sit down places anymore because it is so expensive and usually slow with substandard service and then they expects. Huge tip for doing virtually nothing. Okay...I'm a bit of an expert on Cracker Barrel as I grew up in a suburb outside of Nashville, TN (Mt. Juliet-Lebanon) where the very first Cracker Barrel was located (Hwy 109 & Leeville Pike). I've NEVER had a bad meal at any of the Cracker Barrel restaurants in TN & I've been a loyal customer since the 1970s. Tonight, we had a horrible experience at the Missoula Cracker Barrel. Understaffed (of course bc no one wants to pay employees a living wage in this town). Our food was cold and I have to say this is hands-down the WORST meal we've had since moving to Missoula. My fiancé is sick and I'm about to be. He had dried out sirloin steak and ice cold mashed potatoes. I had meatloaf that was cold inside and tiny cold portions of okra, hash brown casserole and carrots. The highlight of our meal was the cornbread. Even the iced tea was bad...sour-tasting. No lemon was offered. The portions have been halved on sides it appears but we ate more than we should have We will NEVER go back. Honestly, we would have been better off eating at a fast food joint. This gross experience speaks volumes to me about poor management and lack of corporate oversight. I only recommend the Missoula Cracker Barrel if you are wanting to vomit or develop a bad case of diarrhea. I should have asked to see the restaurant rating but didn't. read more
