I've been here a few times and am consistently satisfied. The restaurant has the feel of a diner despite being in a shopping center. The location makes it very convenient to go to the very pleasant bookstore next door while waiting for a table - there is no shortage of customers even on a Wednesday late morning. The line is well-managed with a waiting area and restaurant pagers handed out. It seems like a place that is frequented as much by young people as retirees. They have a combo plate that includes two eggs, hash browns, a protein (I've so far only tried the corned beef hash), and two pancakes starting at 17 with upgrades available for the pancakes. It can easily be split for breakfast and offers a really good variety of things. The corned beef hash, hash browns, and pancakes are all top notch in my opinion (and the eggs are good eggs also). There are numerous Best Breakfast Winner posters hanging above the window to the kitchen and I don't think this place needs much support - they seem to be doing quite well - but in case this reaches someone who is visiting Missoula and doesn't know about it, it's well-worth a stop. I visited Paul's Pancake Parlor in Missoula and ordered a Belgian waffle topped with strawberries, but the dish fell short of my expectations. I was hoping for fresh berries, but instead received a heavy serving of candied strawberries in berry syrup with pie-filling consistency. It was overwhelmingly sweet, and I ended up scraping off as much as I could and eating only the outer portion of the waffle. That said, the service was efficient, and the staff kept things moving smoothly. If I were local, I'd be willing to give the place another try, but with a different menu choice. read more

Paul's Pancake Parlor is a breakfast stop with long tradition in Missoula. We visited after talking to a student on the University of Montana campus. They were very busy on a Thursday morning but the line moved fairly quick and after 20 minutes we were seated. Big menu with plenty of choices. I went for the blueberry sourdough pancake stack of four. They had plenty of blueberries and pancakes had good size, fairly light but not fluffy. I finished all four and did not feel like I had just eaten some heavy pancakes. Unfortunately the blueberry syrup was not as good as the pancakes and I should have tried it first before dousing the whole stack. They were good but I would try something different next time as there were many pancake and waffle choices. My grandson surprised me and ordered the 10 oz. Rib eye steak, eggs, and hash browns. He really enjoyed the meal and I had a couple small bites of steak and it was very good. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The tables clean in spite of being super busy. Seating comfortable. After waiting for a table for 40 minutes, the host told us that they had made a mistake, and we should have been seated sooner. They promptly took our order, seemingly to remedy the situation; however, it took another 40 minutes for our food to actually get to our table. When it did arrive, the entrée was lukewarm and the hashbrowns piping hot. Extremely disappointing, at best. This used to be a favorite breakfast place for my wife and I, but after this, I would strongly recommend others to go somewhere else instead. read more

They still charged me for it. The whole meal did not come out of the same time. I had to wait on my toast separately. SERVICE // If you're a large party, you have much better chance of having Timely service. If you come in by yourself, it's a crap shoot best of luck to you. First time here. Decided to grab brekky before I hit the road. Had to go Paul's sampler since it's a pancake parlor right? Comes with four types: sourdough (I liked the bit of tang form this one), blueberry (standard but nothing spectacular), chocolate (see blueberry description) and a classic buttermilk. All were solid and I liked that they were a good size, not huge so I was able to enjoy all four. Also added a side of two link sausage (8/10). Overall great diner type vibes. Next time all try one of their non pancake offering as they had a few other breakfast items that caught my eye. read more

Not really impressed. The reviews really hype this place up. But in their defense I didnt get pancakes. I got a combo breakfast. The sausage patty was good. The hash browns were well done and good. The eggs and biscuits were ok. The gravy was just flour flavored nothing. Needed a lot of salt and hot sauce to fix it. One kid got the Nutella filled crepes and loved them. The other kid got tenders and tots. They were nothing special. The Service was very good. It seemed everyone covered down to help out. The hardest part was getting a refill of my drink. The place a very different decor. Little bit of everything i guess. I hope they pay their waitstaff well for their prices. I can see the crepes being more. But $18 for a basic breakfast? In the sea of competing breakfast places here in Missoula, I opted to go here because at least they don't obsess on Mexican oddities, such as burritos or tacos for breakfast. We don't need those. Here, the emphasis is on waffles and pancakes. Whereas I was expecting the waffle to be like a Belgian one, thick and an accompanying, crispy exterior, It wasn't. Unfortunately, I found the waffle to be ordinary, thin, and soggy. Low budget syrup. Orange juice: store bought and cheap, not close to fresh squeezed. Bacon tasted fine and was prepared well. Service was fine. Gawdy, tacky interior with the most unpleasant lighting i've ever witnessed in a restaurant. And that's saying something. One notable problem: the staff rolled the busboy cart out of its area and proceeded to ***vigorously*** sweep all of the day's dust, filth, trash, etc., into the air, and instead of dumping the full dust pan into the trash--somewhere away from the customers--instead, into the little trash can on the bus cart, just 2-3' away from other customers and me. My nose is now itching and I'm sneezing. This sort of heavy cleaning is non hygienic, causes airborne hair, dust and debris to land in people's clothes, food and person. It's also super tacky and inconsiderate. He should have waited to do that until after closing. Overall, this could be a wonderful breakfast option. It's just devoid of high quality ingredients and caters to a mediocre segment. Pricing is fair for what is being served. read more

I dined at Paul's Pancake Parlor when I was visiting Missoula for the first time. It was one of the only breakfast spots with a lot of raivng reviews. We had to wait a little before getting seated, so we checked out the bookstore next door. When we got seated, the waitress greated us with a smile and took good care of us. The breakfast portions are huge and very good value. We left feeling stuffed for the rest of the day. I got the biscuit with gravy and they were delicious and done well. After enough mediocre experiences here I'd suggest others avoid. The food has never been a stand out, but I do think it has gone down in quality overtime and the prices are becoming exceedingly high for what you're getting. These are really low quality ingredients like their eggs so it's not worth $18 for an omelette. The real last straw for me was our meal today where we ordered the sourdough pancakes to say that they're over fermented is an understatement. They essentially smelled like soy sauce and tasted like eating vinegar. This is not what a sourdough pancake is supposed to be. I mentioned this to the waitress and she told me that's just how they are which I find hard to believe. I know others have loved the sourdough pancake so I'm guessing this is day to day variability. We visited this restaurant at about 11:30AM on a Friday. Wait was only 5 minutes. Food was very good with large portions of steak and ham . The only thing I didn't like was the dim lighting. I went here once when I was in town and enjoyed it so much I was looking forward to going again. I ordered an egg white vegetarian omlette and cottage cheese. You can tell they use real egg whites, not the ones that come in the little carton. I replaced the toast with spiced pancakes (I almost NEVER eat pancakes, but it's in the name so I wanted to try it.) They were so incredibly good, no butter, no syrup needed. On a Sunday, the wait for 2 was 45 minutes which goes by quickly because you can walk next door to the huge book store while you wait. Very pleasant experience all around. read more

Five stars for Paul's! So, I'm weird and get annual food cravings. I don't think I'd had a pancake in 3+ years but I was hankering for one today and this place *delivered* in more ways than one. Prompt service even though Paul's was absolutely jumping. Staff were incredibly polite and attentive. I enjoyed two buttermilk pancakes, eggs over easy and hashbrowns with country sausage. It was all great, the pancakes were the perfect shape, size, texture and consistency. Just like my dad used to make, so, absolutely incredible. Not big on hashbrowns typically, but these were crisp on top while also being the perfect amount of tender? How to describe a hashbrown? Either way, they were perfect.
