I am very upset tonight. Some customers were eating tonight and there waiter went to clean the table and picked up this envelope and noticed it had money in it around 500 dollars and he ran to customers to return it . Customer stated that he opened it he says yes some people leave him tips in an envelope and when it noticed how much it was of course this was not a tip so he wanted to return this to them customer was still furious bc he opened it.He ended up getting fired for this good deed .since the customer complained . I do know this young man and he is nothing but kind and honest to everyone he meets always helping everyone . Just trying to make a living for him and his baby girl .Now with that being said . I'm putting Cracker Barrel on hold for awhile. The last four times I took my wife there in Owensboro, it was 50-50 that she liked her food and I didn't. Next time I liked mine and she didn't. That's not a relationship fine dining. Didn't want - fine dining- But didn't want family controversy either. I think we would go back when we both see a menu item we both want. My husband and I were so disappointed the last time we went there 4/14 the floors were so dirty and the table had dried ketchup all over it. My husband went to the bathroom and came out and said it was disgusting dirty and my husband never complains so that shocked me a little. I've been eating here quite often lately. I looked at the reviews and I must say that the majority of the problems that got this location low scores seem to have been resolved. The longest wait time I've had to endure ("endure" as if I'm being tortured in a basement instead of perusing aisles of cool items in an air conditioned room) is like 3 minutes when they were jam packed at lunch on a weekend. So it seems the wait time problem has been alleviated. The staff are always cool. I have only had cool hosts and hostesses that are very professional and polite. The wait staff are always patient, attentive, and personable. And the food has always been good enough to keep me coming back. One gripe I've had are the non-golden biscuits that have come across my table a few times. My simple solution is I simply asked my waitress to "please give me a plate of nice golden brown biscuits", and like magic, they're golden brown every time! No fuss, no problems, all good in the hood. They're always going out of their way to be super hospitable. In fact, I was curious about their turnip greens as I have never had a turnip let alone the greens part of it in my entire life. So I asked the waiter if I could try it out and BAM! He got me a little sample to taste. And let me tell you, it was goooood. On another occasion I was allowed to try 3 different flavors of their lemonades at one meal! And all three were delicious and refreshing. I tried green apple lemonade, cherry lemonade, and lemon lemonade. How cool is that? SUPER COOL. Perhaps even toeing the line towards Ultra cool. In summation, this place has outgrown those old negative reviews. They've taken feedback and fought back with something to prove. In fact, if the gripe is that a restaurant has long wait times or is out of a certain menu item, perhaps it's because they have something great that the people of the city truly enjoy. That's a good problem to have and doesn't earn it a low score. Just my opinion. And if ya don't like it, stay away. It will lessen my wait time from 3 minutes to 2 minutes and 55 seconds. But good things are worth the wait. Oh and try the pot roast! It's good! read more

I was at Owensboro location. The staff and food was excellent. Sorry to say, some people are never satisfied. The person in line ahead of me complained about the food as she was leaving. The manager didn't charge her, apologize and offered to give her anything on the menu at no charge. Her reply was, I'm putting this on yelp. Really lady? What else could you ask for.? Based on today's experience, I had to lower my rating. I would rate our waitress a 5 star! Our party of 8 dined with you today. Two received mashed potatoes that were plated much earlier and placed under a heat lamp, drying them out and making them hard. One received chicken tenders that were burned to black on one side. One of us didn't receive our complete order. One ordered the campfire meal, and it had very little beef and no carrots. One ordered the southern style chicken, and the pieces were very small. Apparently, you have changed to an inferior product. 6 out of 8 had a poor experience. The food was not served at the same time, so some were finished eating before the others received their meal. Our waitress was very good. Her name was Tyffany B. This Cracker Barrel has been deteriorating for some time now. The last 4 times, the food quality or quantity has been poor. One gentleman with us today was a DM for Burger King for years, and he said that management should be in the kitchen supervising what was happening. "Dear God, let this place suck and restore my foodie credibility", I prayed as I walked through the kitschy store front area, back to the restaurant. My grilled catfish dispelled my prior notion of the Ictaluridae being 'muddy' tasting. Instead, it was as tender and flavorful as one could possibly expect from a $7 meal. A side of turnip greens with a generous pool of pot liquor satisfied my craving for vegetation and a taste of the South. Our waitress was charmingly quintessential of the classic Americana diner waitress - rail thin, raspy voice (don't know if she smokes cigarettes or eats them), and relentlessly harried, though unflinchingly gracious and astoundingly efficient. So me and my husband, and my two kids decided to go eat at Cracker Barrel. So my step daughter and I have ordered the chicken meals, they then wait till almost closing to tell us the chicken was out up for the night. So which is the only reason we went there, but it also then put a damper on us. We then, had to listen to them cleaning up around us to close which wasn't the issue. It was the rap music. Sadly, the Owensboro location seems to suffer from poor management. Wait times are consistently way off, even when making reservations ahead of time on the app. (15 mins quoted on the app; 50 minutes later, we were finally seated.) Not uncommon to wait 10+ minutes before a server shows up once you do get seated. Food quality - sometimes good, sometimes not. Expect to have drinks not refilled, and to wait 20-30 minutes for food. Bathrooms are consistently a bit grimy. We do have a good experience occasionally, so we continue to come back and give it a chance. But at times, we get fed up and avoid going in for an extended period due to the service. Henderson's location seems to be consistently better. read more

I always try to give a restaurant a couple tries before I decide to write a review. This restaurant as disappointed me both times. My first experience here was substandard. I got the dinner sampler my wife got the livers and my done got the dumplings. My food was edible but dry as though it were prepared and left under a heat lamp for an hour. The dumplings my son choose were the driest and nastiest things as though they were made a couple days ago and were reheated in the microwave. The waitress informed us of several items that were not prepared or they were out of, such as everything on the desert menu outside the cake and there was no meatloaf. The waitress seemed more interested in her tip and even mentioned not making us mad even though we never hinted to any frustration. So nearly 30 minutes past after our order. This was at 5:30pm and there were maybe 6 tables filled. Our food finally arrives, my wife got the sampler, and my son and I picked the cheeseburger. Plain and simple the burgers were burnt to a crisp, they were black as coal. My wife's dumplings were once again old and dry. When I went to pay after all the trouble I reluctantly still gave a tip even though every aspect of the experience was subpar. The woman at the register seemed perturbed and even announced my 10% (mind you I should've given 0) to everyone. All I can say to people is DO NOT EAT HERE. read more

On the day after Thanksgiving, my two sisters and I went to the Cracker Barrel in Owensboro for lunch. We were told that there was a wait time of 25 to 30 minutes, so we decided to wait. After about thirty minutes, they announced our table was ready. We ordered our food and the last thing the waitress said was: 'There's a wait time of thirty minutes before you will be served.' It wasn't thirty minutes to get our food. It was over 45 minutes! Both the waitress and the manager stated that there was a wait time for food all morning. If that is true, then my complaint is why didn't they tell us this fact when we signed up for a table. If they were truly honest, they should have told us that besides the 30 minute wait for a table, it will be an additional 30 to 45 minutes before you will receive your food. We made a sibling pact that we would never eat at another Cracker Barrel! A WORD OF ADVICE: FORGET THE DUMPY CRACKER BARREL. INSTEAD GO TO MOONLITE RESTAURANT WHERE YOU CAN GET THE DELICIOUS FOOD THAT YOU DESERVE IN ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES.
