It was bad enough that I rarely leave one-star reviews, but that night earned it. Fast forward to tonight--and this felt like an entirely different restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was calm and organized. The host stand was under control, we were seated quickly, and service flowed exactly the way it should. Orders were taken promptly, drinks came out fast, and the food arrived hot and fresh without a long wait. The staff was friendly, professional, and engaged. No tension. No confusion. Just solid, efficient service and the comfort food Cracker Barrel is known for. Because of this visit, I'm taking down my original review. The issues I complained about were real at the time, but they've clearly been addressed. Corn bread was good. Service was good from the waitress, but she was obviously tired from lack of support. At the end when I went up to pay, the cashier told me I'd be asked a series of questions prior to my credit card being accepted for payment. He then asked if my experience was good. I was equivocal. Haven't been here in 2 years and now I remember why. Spent over $60 and none of the food was hot. Sides were dry--no liquid in the pinto beans or greens. Who puts quarter-sliced onions in beans? Burger was wilted and sad. My husband said they were making the food, yet it still came out cold. Cashier was nice, but that's about the only positive. This was my first time at a Cracker Barrel and it was a big letdown. The food was greasy and extremely salty. I thought chicken and dumpling would be a safe bet, but it was awful. There were exactly 2 pieces of "slow simmered chicken" which were clearly chicken tenders they didn't even take the time or effort to cut into chunks or shred) floating in a bowl full of salty mush. I couldn't eat bring myself to eat more than 2 bites. For sides, I ordered the Mac & cheese which was oily and bland, and the has brown pie, which was seemed deep fried and bland as well. Our server didn't even notice that my food was almost completely untouched. I ate half a biscuit, but found that salty, too. She never asked if the meal was ok. She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert--she just dropped the check and disappeared. And the restaurant was pretty empty, so that made no sense. Stopped in on a Saturday evening while driving through and was seated right away. Fireplace was lit and it was nice and cozy in the restaurant. We ordered the chicken and dumplings and shrimp and grits. Both were delicious and a large portion. We had enough to bring home for leftovers. This is my preferred location but I usually come for breakfast and I'm never disappointed. For lunch today I tried a new dish on the menu....The Buffalo Buttermilk Ranch Mac 'n' cheese. Here's the deal with Cracker Barrel: it's a full experience and I will be reviewing it as such. It is NOT a culinary masterpiece, but it has never been described as one. It's basically the best place to stop on any road trip and if you disagree you're doing life wrong. The answer is no where. Forgot to get a hostess gift for the home you're visiting? Grab one here. New baby in the family? Get them an adorable outfit. On this particular trip we were visiting my in laws and had to travel two and half hours. We decided to stop for brunch. The place was PACKED and it was cold so no one wanted to wait outside. No problem. We just all circulated the country store. The wait wasn't too bad and when we were seated we were greeted promptly. We both got the blackberry tea. For our entrees we opted to skip breakfast and did the chicken BLT and bacon cheeseburger, and the cheese curds as an app. Our entrees were served with buttery biscuits and cornbread. We didn't want to eat it since we were going to have bread with our entrees, but we couldn't help ourselves. The biscuits are so flaky and good. My chicken sandwich was shockingly great. There was a spicy maple mayo on juicy fried chicken. I was impressed. The cheese curds were decent too, but I was more interested in my sandwich. My husband enjoyed his burger too. You can now use mobile pay and don't even have to wait in line to pay in the store which makes the experience even better. I love the Cracker Barrel. I always know what to expect and what I want to eat. My favorite carbs come from this place, biscuits and cornbread. We weren't served cornbread today which was odd. But no need to worry, I was enjoying my Old Timers breakfast and my husband was loving his Blueberry pancakes, and along came Typhoid Mary. We are still in the midst of a pandemic and staff and customers were all maskless. Three tables away a couple was seated. One woman was wearing her cow print onesie pj, slumped over the table, body visably sweating and coughing continuously. Not one person seemed to be bothered. So... This location is right off the highway and well marked. We stop here on trips from DC to New York a few times a year. Breakfast is served all day and is always good, and the last time I was there I had a salad which was fresh, I had it with chicken and the portion size was good. There is always a long wait for food here, even though I know it's cooked fresh it just seems to take a long time. Food is always consistent so you know exactly what you are getting. The biscuits are great. This past visit we waited for 40 minutes to get our meals. That's a lot of time to spend off the road when traveling. read more

We were told the wait would be 25 minutes. We waited at about 35 minutes. I was told there were 3 parties ahead of me when I check; however, 5 parties were seated before we were. School is starting around the country so here's my quiz for all of you boys and girls ready to learn new lessons. WHAT COLOR of cooked eggs do egg whites create when the eggs are cooked over medium? Actually any time egg WHITES are cooked. Ok, so I gave a hint in the capitalization ... WHITE. Well, our waitress didn't get it even when repeated told that the order was egg whites she kept staring at the all too yellow eggs and said, "do you want me to take them back?" OF COURSE .... YES ... that is the bonus element on the quiz ... serve the wrong food and the customer doesn't want it because they want what they ordered. Of course, the good ole UNCLE HERSCHEL's breakfast combo (I went with the fried catfish) didn't have the prerequisite eggs and she asked the same question ... "should I get you the eggs?" OF COURSE ... I ordered a breakfast with eggs ... oh by the way the meal is also supposed to have grits and the sausage gravy should have a temperature above cold so yes please HELP ... So, she walked away ... until the family connection arrived (Apparently this franchise has some element of nepotism protection happening.). Mama bear said she would take care of everything. And, as we wondered why one meal didn't have the fruit and sausage and were left guessing which were the two regular coffees and which was the decaf it was decided this experience didn't deserve our cash but of all the times ... someone PAID IT FORWARD and paid for our breakfasts without telling us. After the family intervention occurred the wheat ... ooops nope out of wheat but we were told the multigrain toast was almost like wheat ... well the multigrain toast was delivered totally dry without a tab of butter to be seen. That's how the grits arrived too ... by then we were worn down and just wanted food and escape. In the midst of this dining was like sitting on an airport runway because the decibel level just off of I-295 made our eardrums ache but obviously this is a popular stop and we only went to a prepackaged franchise restaurant after church because the CHURCH LADIES said they were going here ... maybe SATAN made them do it. Other than the incredibly bad service, which was our misfortune, the food was typical Cracker Barrel food. Nothing really good ... small portions and in fact the sausage gravy's quality seemed to be less than my hopeful memory had inspired hope in although the cold coagulated first serving of gravy might have put bad thoughts into my head. No, we didn't talk to management because our meal had been paid for and we didn't want a voucher because we will not return. And, perhaps at the moment we were wrong to protect mama bear's cub from management's wrath ... but I give us one star for our failure to tell management because this waitress clearly needed training since she didn't know what is on this simplistic never changing menu. My family and I visited this Cracker Barrel in Pennsville New Jersey on August 2, 2024. The decor and store portion was very quaint and nice as with most cracker barrels. Unfortunately, we had a waitress that seemed kind of new. We waited quite a while before she came to the table. We had to ask for the bread basket as she did not bring it. She went on a break before we received our food. And we had to ask other waiters or waitresses to have her come to the table at least two times. so the service was bad and it is the first time we did not leave a tip. The food was not good. That's about all I can say. I give good reviews and bad reviews on yelp. I would avoid this Cracker Barrel. read more

We had gone here all the time before the pandemic. So we decided to try it again, boy were we wrong. Service was good the food something else. Berry French toast with bacon, bacon burnt French toast side were so overdone could not eat, strawberries still had their stems on them. The sodas just plain awful very bad taste, tried different flavors so bad taste tried their lemonade same my wife's dish wallpaper paste mashed potatoes trout thin and just ok, Cole slaw bad, the only thing good was fried pickles with ranch dressing. I visited this restaurant for my anniversary breakfast. The wait was not long and I was able to gaze in the Gift shop while we waited. Our waitress was very quick and professional. The layout was spread to observe social distancing rules. As we waited, we did observe cleaning and disinfecting of the empty tables. Our breakfast arrived hot and delicious looking.
