$5 takehomes

Busy at Sunday brunch and with our party of 10 we had a bit of a wait. Sat by the fireplace so all the ladies liked the warmth. The server was nice and on top of our refills. Food took a while to come out, but everything was correct for the most part. The country fried turkey dinner at $15 was not quite accurate per the menu picture. The cup of cranberry was Micro sized w/ about 1 tbsp worth. Turkey was delicious and the baked apples as well. Coleslaw was ok & cornbread was good flavor. Chicken & dumplings was cooked well but over salty. Blueberry pancakes were a hit. Egg on burger was a great combo. Lobby & restroom was maintained.

Country Dinner: meatloaf, fried chicken, and chicken n dumplings. Side of fries and salad.

Haven't been here for a while but as always, the home style cooking and good service keeps us coming back. I had the Country Dinner and selected 3 main dishes; meatloaf, fried chicken breast and chicken dumplings. You get 2 sides. It was delicious! We love shopping in the old country store and the old eclectic advertising and wall hanging items in the dining area. Join their rewards program if you come, it earned us a $8.00 discount from our last 2 visits.

Chocolate chip pancakes

I'm kind of a (self proclaimed) pancake connoisseur... and I just have to share that their chocolate chip pancakes are amazing! They were so soft, fluffy, have that crispy butter ring and a good amount of chocolate chips. I'm hooked! The service was great. The Sunday morning wait was long, but worth it. The menu boasts "thick" bacon but it was disappointingly thin and fatty. The chicken sandwich was thick and juicy, but the amount of fries was minimal. They have an app, with a rewards program, as well as mobile pay by scanning a qr code on the check. (I couldn't get the mobile pay to work though, so I had to pay at the register.) When we arrived at the host stand, we gave a phone number and we received a text when our table was ready. I believe I saw something about a waitlist on the app, but didn't utilize it. I loved the warmth and cozy feel of the huge fireplace we walked past on the way to our seats. The decor is old country and fun. There's a huge gift shop to check out while you wait for a table, or after. And there are always those triangle peg games on every table.

This place has the best little store right when you enter. Many unique gifts and ornaments for the Christmas season. The restaurant was busy, but did not have to wait to be seated. They have good food and even better service. Our waitress was amazing. Service was quick and she checked on us multiple times. She was very helpful when questions were asked regarding the menu. The staff overall was very friendly. They do serve breakfast all day. I really like the overall appearance of the restaurant. The decor is old or vintage looking. Very clean.

Black something on the pancakes and only 2 pieces of bacon instead of 3 as they advertise.

Placed an online order for 2 kids pancake meals, one with bacon and the other with turkey sausage . I picked up my order and I should have checked it then but I didn't until I get home and my pancakes are filled with some black marks all over them and then they show a picture of 2 pieces of turkey sausage but there was only 1 in the tray with the pancakes and they also show 3 strips of bacon but there was only 2 strips of bacon in the tray. So they are misleading on how many pieces of meat you get with the order and they cooked my pancakes on a dirty grill. See photos.

Came on a Sunday and were seated immediately. Server came over and was great. Breakfast is so good and plentiful. My favorites are the biscuits and gravy and hash brown casserole.

Grilled chicken, bacon mac&cheese, and pancakes!

My new favorite meal at Cracker Barrel! Grilled chicken was fresh and juicy! The mac&cheese was great and the pancakes completed the salt and sweet combo. Best food I've had in a while!

We attended a monster truck show at the speedway up the road- what better way to cap it than with some BBQ! Ok- this was a slow Sunday at 4pm, and this is a very small town. Kudos to the owners for operating this outpost. We were basically the only people in the joint. Beer selection was limited (mainly due to much of it not being in the fridges), but it was nice they had juice boxes for the little pitmasters. Really should have ordered one of the platters- oh but wife wanted a sandwich lol... Well they come with bread as they should in Texas!! Anyways, my main disappointment was that my brisket was just pulled brisket. In Texas (God's Country), not only will the brisket be served sliced, but at the better places the offer your fatty (point) or lean (flat). The pulled brisket here was still fairly flavourful and well seasoned, but still it's like being served leftovers. For pulled pork, it's cool, brisket I'm not impressed. Sides were ok. Slaw- standard. I like it a little creamier not bad still. Potato salad was good! Cowboy beans also really true to Texas flavour. Being a slow Sunday- service was basically high school kids. News flash- this isn't a good thing. It may as well have been serve yourself. Would give it maybe one more shot- full platter and on a busier day. That being said I wouldn't drive from Windsor especially for it (Slows in Detroit is the benchmark), but I'm rooting for this place and would surely visit again if I was in the area!

However I am surprised that there is sauce as i have known Texas as dry rub bbq. Pulled pork was typical, ok. A no on sides. Tried cowboy beans and potato salad (half potatoes were still hard). Overall, if I am craving brisket, i would come back for that.

We grabbed menus near the entrance so we could pick what we wanted while waiting in line. When we ordered, there was a place to drop off the menus. On this inaugural visit, I requested the shrimp and grits, fresh orange juice, and beignets. We found a table for four and seated ourselves. The place was nearly full with one room cordoned off for only the busiest of times. While we waited, I visited the jam bar to get some butter. Soon, our food was delivered. The fresh squeezed orange juice was very tasty. I definitely enjoyed that. The portion sizes were good. I was afraid they might be small, given the price. The biscuits were large and good, but they are different than southern style biscuits. They can easily be cut with a fork, but also remain stable enough to eat with your fork after cutting. My shrimp was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I think they put six medium-large shrimp in the dish. The grits were also not the typical southern style. They were creamy, but still very good. The dish was tasty and very satisfying. The beignets were delicious! They were served with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Excellent! Our server was friendly and quick. Very good quality. Very good service. The only drawback here is the price. As we exited, the line was out the door.

Sundays seem to be particularly problematic. If you want to be closed on Sundays, just close the business on Sundays, and we'll all keep it moving. But there is nothing more annoying than not being able to place an order with a business that says it is open. A big no-no. Otherwise, the food and the fried chicken is great.
