Would love to be able to give this little market/cafe a great review, but....although it has great potential with a super cute vibe inside, the food was really lacking. We ordered an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich that was served on focaccia bread. The bread was SO stale and tasteless. The eggs were overcooked with brown edges which left a "pan flavor", there was no dressing (sauce/mayo/butter) on it which made it even more dry. This is no exaggeration, the sandwich could barely be swallowed! The coffee was great (latte), which was a bonus to wash down the sandwich. The pastry case was sparse, certainly not what we would have expected from a French bakery. The display shelves were empty with a "renovating" sign so that was also disappointing. Hopefully when the "renovation" is complete some painting and sprucing up will be done inside. The inside seating area could be so special, as well as the great outdoor seating. This place needs some serious TLC and FRESH product. If the gentleman at the counter would have been welcoming and friendly, at least our service experience would have been good. It was our first visit in and we did not feel any kind of welcome gesture. We were not asked if we enjoyed our food/beverage and no kind of "thank you" or "please come again" was offered. We did however, leave him a tip. Before we ate. We rarely leave poor reviews but unless this place has changed ownership since the glowing reviews, we are confused and wanted to be sure that others don't have high expectations. Cute French cafe - next to a large parking lot with a few tables outside! It's mostly carry out as an FYI. I got the egg croissant with ham and it was delicious - warm when it comes out. And we split the French toast bar - definitely ask for them to warm it for you! read more

We enjoyed lunch at Chez Michel. It was fun looking around the market while we waited for our order. Chez Michel is a cute little French market located in The French Creek area of Avon. It is tucked down a hill, so you don't hear a lot of traffic from the main road. The market area had a large selection of interesting canned items. There seemed to be items you wouldn't find other places. There was limited seating on the inside and a nice patio area outside. We chose to sit outside because the weather was perfect. At first it didn't seem busy, but as we were sitting there a steady stream of people seemed to be stopping in. Chez Michel has a variety of pastry in addition to sandwiches. I do wish they had actual serving dishes and not all disposable items. I would have added a latte to my order, but did not want a disposable cup. If you like French cafes I would give this a try. read more

This is an adorable little place but not really visible from Detroit Rd. Follow your GPS. We got a couple hand pies. The chicken, in the chicken bacon ranch one, was a bit tough & the ranch was barely detectable. The Pastalillo was unseasoned ground beef and roasted potato. The croissant was nice & destroyed within minutes. The raspberry vanilla latte was ordered iced and was quite refreshing. They also have a cooler with a good selection of canned/bottled beverages. Wonderful smells await you in this small bakery/sandwich shop which has plenty of outdoor seating and parking around the building which appears to be an old house. Many homemade items like pickles, chow chow, spiced peaches, as well as cookies and brownies and mini quiche. The club sandwich had amazingly fresh juicy tomato slices with a hint of salt I think (was really great) and turkey, bacon, and ham on a folded ciabatta pita like round. If you have not been here before you have to go. Now! I am a self-confessed bakery addict. Cinnamon rolls are my downfall. Since we moved up by Lake Erie we've been searching for the best bakery. I believe, after an exhaustive search, we've found it. The cinnamon rolls were a perfect mix of roll, icing, and cinnamon. The chocolate chip cookies were awesome. We also sampled a slice of cake. This is a little place in Avon and although they don't have a seating place inside the outside sitting area makes up for it all. We went in on a hot summer afternoon, we ordered a Kevin, a chicken handpie and a lemon turnover! The Kevin was ok, the chicken handpie was delicious - took me back to my days in England at the market place waiting for freshly baked handpies, the lemon turnover was lovely too filled with ooey gooey lemon curd - so refreshing and perfect for the summer afternoon! Stopped in while window shopping in the area. This place smelled so good once opening the door! Cute store with bakery. They carry jams, jellies, pickles, sauces, etc. in the front of the store. I tried a vegan cookie after asking if they had anything dairy free. It was chocolate chunk and besides being vegan, it was also gluten free. Very good! And I brought a cookie home for my son - not dairy free - Reese's cookie. Looked delicious as well. My son enjoyed his surprise! read more

Today I ordered food through the Chez Michel website. And I was very unhappy with the experience, the food and the service. The website will tell you that there is a delivery fee involved if you choose to order delivery, and that fee was $2.99. Knowing the fee, I proceeded to continue on anyway, adding my and my co-workers orders to the cart. As I go to checkout I see that there is an additional 12.5% service fee that is added on top of the delivery fee which is never mentioned. I then receive the food. It was not bad, but not worth the price. What really got me though was that I ordered two of their handpies, and the order only came with one. Honest mistake, no biggie. I called them up asking for them to send me my missing item. They informed me that I could come into the shop and they would give me the one I am missing and an additional one on the house. I appreciated the offer, but I was at work and it is a 20 minute drive one way. So I asked that they simply deliver me what I had paid for. This is when I found out that they only provide delivery through Doordash, and that they had no way of delivering my pastry to me. I then asked for a refund, they told me to go on the doordash app to request a refund for the missing item. I explained that I had not used the app, but their website, and they tell me that I can not submit a refund through their website if I ordered from there. I requested that they gave me a partial refund from their side, to which they could not. They said they would need to contact their boss on what to do and would call back. To which they have not called back. So they have hidden fees, can't provide partial refunds if ordered through their site, and was not capable of appropriately compensating me for the missing item, without me having to waste my resources to go and get it. read more

I recently visited Chez Michel French Market on a whim. I had remembered they had posted some photos of sandwiches on their Facebook page and I was really craving a GOOD sandwich for lunch. They didn't have sandwiches advertised, so I has to ask the lady working there and they did have a few selections of specialty sandwiches. I ordered the brisket sandwich and I was not disappointed! It was messy, but delicious - on a pretzel bun. It also came with a side of house-made chips. I also took home one of the items from the bakery case (cake pop) for dessert! This is a very cute shoppe! They have multiple cooler cases with lots of delicious looking treats & desserts. I even saw a section for Gluten Free in the cooler case!! They have many different items other than the pastries in the cooler case. I saw house-made pastries (cookies, sweet breads, muffins, scones, mini-donuts), breads, specialty meats and cheeses, salsas, jams, floral elixirs, dried pastas, oils, spreads, relish, mixes and beverages too! They also carry Ben Heggy's Gourmet Chocolates and candies! They also have seasonal cookies (when I was in, they had Cleveland Brown, tulip and panda chocolate dipped/decorated Oreo's! The food is well thought out, prepared and presented. Had an Italian sub and an eclair. This is a bakery, I expected the eclair to shine. BIG disappointment! Instead of pastry cream, it was filled with whipped cream? Not an eclair, a $3.75 long John donut. The sandwich cost (not printed on the menu boards) is almost silly. $14.00 for an Italian sandwich? More than willing to pay $8.00, maybe go back occasionally at $10.00, not returning at $14.00. Again the sandwich was good but couldn't get the taste of poor value out of my mouth. read more

Upon setting food on the door, I was wrapped in the aroma of fresh baked goods. At the recommendation of the owner, I tried the club sandwich. Out of town in the mood for a sandwich, and I had the club. The homemade ciabatta bread was very good, and really made the sandwich special. They were may be a little bit too heavy on the mustard, mayo, and aïoli however I'm sure they can modify that to what you would like. For a sandwich the price is a little steep, $14, but also included an ample helping of pasta salad which was in thin noodles as opposed to little pieces of penne like I've always had. That was a nice touch and I believe was homemade as well. I also believe this small business, like so many others, have been hanging on by a thread with the impact of Covid over the last year and a half. Stopped in on a whim and so glad we did. Cute and homey store with super friendly service. We tried a bunch bakery items and the falafel sandwich which was delicious and fresh. The almond croissant was fresh, honey topped and flaky. My kids loved the chocolate chunk cookie which was extra chewy in all the right ways along with a perfectly sweet cinnamon roll. Don't be fooled by the fancy name. I've been there twice and each time bought "freshly baked bread" and other baked items only to find they were days old beyond edible. I don't think they actually bake anything fresh there. The items they sell are from Marc's and local bakeries. After all, the selection is way too expansive for one small bakery to have made these items. Waste of money. read more
