The atmosphere is quaint and clean. We were welcomed in and seated quickly. Our waitress was serving multiple tables but ensured everyone was served well. Now that I'm thinking back I believe she was the only waitress at the time because THE Melissa (owner and head chef) came out from the kitchen to help take food and drink orders. Our table had a feeling she was Melissa and when we asked she said "yes"!! We were so excited and had multiple questions to ask her lol. We found out everything is made to order with fresh ingredients. Melissa had great suggestions and had a sweet genuine demeanor. I apologize in advance because I only took pics of my food but my family ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf, roasted chicken risotto, and salmon entrees. I unexpectedly ended up in Avon lake needing a place to eat lunch with my kids. After a quick search and viewing their kids menu online this place seemed like a great choice. Upon entering I noticed it was loud which was great for brining 3 kids. I think there was only one lady tending to the tables and playing hostess. She did her best to seat us timely and check in on us. I had the blacked grouper with a side salad and it was tasty. They had a great kids menu with lots of options, sides, drink and treat included. I thought the portions were a great size and the kids loved getting a treat at the end. I used to patronize Sweet Melissa in Rocky River, so when it closed I was happy to find out they still had Cafe Melissa in Avon Lake. Take-out is great because you can order online and just pick up at their drive-thru. Pricing is reasonable and during Covid they would have coupon codes for certain days. My favorite items are the wings, butternut squash salad, Rhonda's Cali BLT, garlic lemon green beans, and the mac & cheese. Usually things are pretty good, just might encounter avocado missing from my sandwich now and them. Also, be aware that the wings come with celery, but no ranch/bleu cheese. This is weird, but the ranch is good so you'll definitely want to add that. read more

The huevos rancheros had a VERY heavy handful or two of onions thrown on, and the eggs were over hard/medium instead of sunny side up. The beans were well cooked though. Faith was our server. She was very attentive and kind. A 5 star server for sure. I had the shrimp tacos, my friend had the fish tacos. I was less than impressed with the shrimp because that is exactly what they were, almost the size of an adult thumbnail. Not enough shrimp to say the tacos had the texture or taste of any other shrimp type taco we crave. All the way around bland in taste. My friend didn't say a good or bad thing about his fish tacos but as I looked at them, they looked more like a shareable appetizer than a meal. Pricey for what we got. My group and I had a great Sunday brunch at Cafe Melissa! We waited for our table for about 15 minutes before being seated. The waitress was brand new but did a good job despite it being a busy Sunday morning. We ordered coffees and ice teas, which weren't anything special and kind of bland. We were impressed at the prices of the brunch items as well as the portion sizes. I ordered the North of the Border omelette, with Canadian bacon, Swiss cheese, onions, and poblanos. I couldn't taste the poblanos but the Canadian bacon was nice and salty. My brother was a huge fan of his Kayla wrap and even though Cafe Melissa is 45 minutes away, he has every intention of becoming a "regular" here. Ate here today. Food was ok, nothing great and we had 4 dishes, all the fires were super overcooked and not edible just over fried pieces of crunch. I had maybe like 4-6 fries that were edible. The wrap was meh. my kids didn't like any of their food. The restaurant was dirty. Food on the floors right where u walk in too, the dirty cleaning rag sitting in a table next to us with the spray bottle in the table as well. They weren't busy at all l, so no excuse for it. We're trying to find a new local spot as we just moved here from out of state, but sadly we wouldn't come back here. Still on the hunt for a good place! read more

Met friends for breakfast At Cafe Melissa. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!! Everything they do is top notch! Our server was very welcoming and attentive. The food came quickly. The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone at my table was delighted with their meals. The roasted potatoes, that came with breakfast were THE BEST!!! I vultured over 2 tables of 3 doing their weekly Sunday chats. So all of that expected on a Sunday suburban brunch. Ordered 2 beers during the wait. Both were warm. Not room temperature. Warm. Having been a dishwasher at various restaurants while a teenager, I realized the beer glasses were just pulled from the dishwasher and filled with room temp beer. On to the food. It was fine. Tried to support local by eating dinner at Melissa. Arrived at 5:55 pm and was greeted by waitress and sat. She returned a couple minutes later with menus and water. She took our drink order but was not sure what bourbons they had, even though they have two specialty drinks with bourbon in them. She left to find out and never returned. As we sat there for another 20 minutes, we realized that there was only one cook and one waitress working for 10 tables occupied. In addition, 2 people came in for take out orders with one gentleman leaving after waiting for 15 minutes and saying he would come back. When the second person came in for take out, we saw the waitress go to another kitchen area and it looked like she was also preparing food. After about a half hour with no drinks and not ordering, we left. It is a shame since they have a great menu, but we will never know how good the food is. read more

Out in Avon and we were looking for a good breakfast place. This one popped up, and hit everything I look for in a small mom and pops place. I love eggs benedict and I ordered these, the boy got the chicken and waffles, the misses got the avocado toast. Eggs benny was delicious, nicely poached egg, good fresh hollandaise, and a thick piece of Canadian bacon. Loved it, but the show stealer was the potatoes with the peppercorn dressing. Those were fantastic. Small potatoes, baked, then fried, nice seasoning mix on them. So good. The boy really enjoyed his chicken and waffles, I was able to get him to say they were delicious. From a teenager that is a great review. Wife really enjoyed her avocado toast. We all agreed that the potatoes stole the show. Overall good meal, Miss Emma (our waitress) took care of us well, and the price for the 3 of us was around $50. Which is a decent value for a meal. Definitely was short staffed, as we arrived slightly after noon on a Saturday to try their brunch. Stood in the doorway with three other parties looking at a number of dirty tables and two servers trying to keep up with sitting tables, taking orders, bussing and setting tables. Saw one table get up and leave as neither of the servers managed to stop to bring them waters. We debated leaving and decided to wait it out.
