I was hungry, and craving anything but highway food or fast food. Looking for something safe for eats, it seemed like Cracker Barrel checked all the boxes Boy was I wrong. First, let me say the waitress was ok. What I didn't like was when she filled up my sweet tea for the refill, the serving pitcher of sweet tea touched my glass where I was drinking from. Kind of grossed me out. I stopped drinking the tea. And then halfway through the meal, she put my check on the table. Almost like she was rushing me, but also adding "no rush", like it was passive aggressive. Where was the upsell for dessert and maybe a coffee? Nope, not from this waitress. I ordered from what seemed like an early menu. My order consisted of two breasts of chicken and two sides. This was available starting at 4 o'clock, so I guess it was the earlybird special. The two sides consisted of god-awful dumplings, and coleslaw, which was edible. Also included were two muffins that weren't too appetizing, along with multiple butter packets. I even tried the muffin with some supplied jelly and that didn't work. Anyways, the two chicken breasts were well seasoned, but something was wrong. The texture just didn't seem right when I cut into it; almost like it was raw, but it wasn't. The chicken breast was also dry and rubbery Let me talk about these dumplings for a second. It was like undercooked dough, unflavored, and then some seemingly canned chicken gravy was poured over the top of it. This had to be one of the nastiest things I've ever eaten. I didn't even bother checking the restrooms. I wanted out. Also, it seemed like a manager was walking back-and-forth, talking on his cell phone, with an earbud in, not paying attention to the staff or the kitchen. Now I know why this Cracker Barrel is rated so low. I really wanted to like this place. I really really did. Perhaps when I get back to Connecticut I will try a local one again for a second chance. In my humble opinion, Cracker Barrel needs to shape up with the appearance, the staff, the cook, and the menu. Austin was a good and attentive server. First time ever deviating from my usual chicken and dumplings; only had chicken noodle soup ( and biscuits) but it was yummy and filling. Our waitress was great but the steak and eggs was terrible. Steak was tough even though it was supposed to be a New York strip, which should be fairly tender. The scrambled eggs were overdone on the outside and mushy inside. The iced mocha tasted okay but was overflowing the glass so it was a mess to handle. Apparently regular old hash browns are no longer an option. The hash brown casserole is just a gooey mess. The egg sandwich was pretty good but it's not worth going there for an egg sandwich so we won't be back. read more

Usually I don't enjoy restaurant burgers, but this one was great. Our waiter was fine. I didn't get a fork and knife for the bread, butter, and jam, but I used my dad's knife, so it was okay. When we weren't ready to order, she gave us space, which was different from a review saying staff rushed people. I liked the older decor because it felt calm. The music and chatter didn't bother me. One thing I noticed is when we asked for water or a napkin, she put down her plates to help us. Asking for a napkin seemed to confuse her for a moment, but maybe she just didn't hear me. I probably wouldn't return because it felt like there weren't many options. I like CB, I eat breakfast there always! I like that they serve breakfast all day. Nothing I dislike more than restrictions on breakfast! I'm not sure who is responsible for the food quality at CB but it's terrible. I use to love coming to Cracker Barrel to eat. Our meal last night was the worse we have ever had. I thought things were going to get better after the WOKE debacle but clearly they are not listening. To start off, the biscuits were cold and we were served just 2 with no plates! Our food was ordered and the chicken had a rubbery texture to it, the hash brown casserole was runny and didn't have any flavor whatsoever. Have they gone to prepackaged everything? Yuck!! I do not know why stars are low for this location but my personal experience has always been excellent. very good food that's addictive and extremely friendly staff. Everyone treats you like family. I work there myself and the boss is very accommodating with my disabilities. She treats her staff like they are her own children and would do anything to help them succeed. the guests are always pleasant and a joy to work with and most I've become close to. The atmosphere is authentic and the restaurant is very clean. I know that because I have OCD and hate dirty places. read more

Absolutely the worst CB we've ever been to. And what's worse, I knew it was soon as we pulled up the ramp because we've got this one before but hoped I was wrong. We drive cross country North to South four times a year with two breakfast stops per direction and CB is our go to. We've have a son with dietary restrictions and it's easier for him to order off the lunch menu. This is THE ONLY CB to EVER tell us that we couldn't order the chicken fingers and fries off the kids menu until 11am. "The cook has been here for 25 years and is very by the book. He said it's not prepped yet." The fryer is already on, the food is not made fresh, and what has to be prepped for frozen fried food? What a joke. We will never be back here and by the looks of other reviews, we're not the first patrons they've lost because of him. We'll never be back here. Oh and the food just came out cold. read more

Service was friendly but slow. Carrots and corn lacked proper texture, may have been cooked improperly or sat too long. Only one choice for dessert, no thank you. We stopped at this Cracker Barrel for a mid afternoon lunch while on a road trip. I had the Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese, my friends had a burger and a breakfast option. Save your time! After a long wait on a Friday evening we were finally seated. My husband ordered the fish fry and received three fish fingers and a a few fries. He is not inclined to complain. I, on the other hand, am. I had plenty of time to peruse the online menu and selected the salad with grilled chicken. The online menu photo showed a generous sliced chicken breast and plenty of cherry tomatoes on a bed of Romaine lettuce. What was delivered to me was a plate of chopped iceberg with five thin, dried out chicken slices and four lonely cherry tomatoes. The manager when summoned to our table indicated that it was my fault for not ordering the fried, breaded chicken which apparently is served in more generous portions. We had not previously been fans of this chain, and obviously this will be our last meal at the Staunton restaurant or in any other city. End of story! read more

The gravy was thin like water, curdled and sour : ( I've never tasted any kind of gravy like that! We realized that the other surrounding tables had also made the same complaint and were really concerned that the gravy was so bad today. Multiple tables had flagged the waitress down to complain. I usually get the same food and expect the wait time to be less than 30 minutes. My experience here was just that, they told us wait time of 30 minutes and was seated in 5 minutes. Me and my sister Mellyna both worked there for some time. The staff are terrible with customer service and respect of employees and customers. We were both left crying multiple times because we were taken advantage of for our kindness. Tons of customers felt sorry for us and said they would never lay foot in their again. Many other employees received the same treatment which causes many to leave. The managers are rude and disrespectful towards everyone they come in contact with. Behind those back walls you hear arguments, gossip, drama, racial slurs, bullying, and especially homophobic language. There have been times I was told they went so far as telling people to kill themselves. For anyone who gets a job in there, you will have second thoughts and head back out the door. read more
