We were just touring this place and was amazed by the old train dinning experience. The area is pretty popular but parking is decent. You go inside and it's wide , you don't even feel like you are inside a train. Nice ambience. Staff is very welcoming and our waitress was very sweet. Christmas decors made it more endearing. We were seated and immediately our waitress got our order and soon after that our delicious smelling food came. I ordered crab dip and salmon and both are perfectly done. I love the dip with crackers and my salmon with broccoli was perfect. All of us was pretty pleased with our food. We truly enjoyed this experience. From the staff to place and food, we love it. Thank you Depot Grille.

You walk into a place like this and just want to wander like it's a museum. There are so many wonders to take in! Even with a multitude of seating options, this place is so popular, you may want to consider reserving in advance. Our bartender was on it like a bonnet. Very attentive and kind. I wasn't too hungry (unfortunately) so my review is based on my husband's review of the French dip, which he said was divine. We shared the beer-battered mushrooms, and we both agreed that they were legit! I can't believe I forgot to review The Depot when we were here three years ago!

    Hand Battered Fried Mushrooms, Yum!

This Staunton Landmark has the most beautiful wood bar that was purchased from a luxury hotel in Albany, NY and brought in by train. Sit down, relax, and have a drink while your bartender tells you the story of the bar. The Depot Grill is known for their Crab Bisque and it did not disappoint! It was so yummy! Also, they have hand battered mushrooms as an appetizer. A great app to share at your table. I loved the horsy sauce that it came with. The burger was dry and flavorless. Pick and choose wisely here and you will not be disappointed. They have a great happy hour weekdays from 4 to 6 pm.

BLUF: Dry food, quiet restaurant, church vibes. Food (2/5): The food was very basic and not really flavorful. The chicken tender wrap was very dry. I had to dunk it in honey mustard to get it down my throat without sticking. It could have used ranch or Cesear dressing or something. If it had it already in the wrap, I didn't taste it or they forgot it. The spinach and artichoke was good! I'd get that again. It was creamy and there were plenty of chips. The DPO Chicken Sandwich was good. It too needed some flavor added. Service (5/5): Our waiter was extremely nice. He DID forget about us a few times and forgot the condiment requests and took a few mins to flag him down for dessert and the check. BUT he did steer us away from the chocolate mousse cake that they had as a special. He said it's been sitting all day and no one was ordering it or if they did, it wasn't good. So we ended up getting the peanut butter oreo cheesecake that they had. It was delicious. Ambiance (4/5): It's an old train station. It gives church vibes, must have been all the church pews everywhere. It's a very slow moving place. So be patient and just take in the weird decorations in the ceiling shelves. TLDR: Ok food, Ok vibes.

BEFORE: Kinda hard to find if you've never been there but I found it and beer-tender Nicky got me a cold beer and iced tea within a minute of sitting down. Neat choo-choo ambiance as it was obviously an old train depot at one time. Nice solid bar. Comfortable stools. Ordered the Bacon cheddar burger, crispy fries and a bowl of "house-made crab bisque. AFTER: Well the crab bisque was definitely "house-made" and not out of a can. Decent amount of crab but could have been a bit chunkier for my preference. The flavor was spot on! Really delicious and great 'bisquee' not soupy consistency. The burger was ok. Nothing special or distinct about it. Bacon and cheddar had more flavor than the burger. The 'crispy fries' were awesome! Crispy on the outside and almost mashed potato consistency on the inside. Really delightful! Pretty good meal but just not 5-star quality.

A very nice lunch spot in Staunton, Virginia, that has two historic train carriages outside and is located itself in a former train depot (with historical features preserved). It's like stepping back in time. Friendly waiters who were efficient and professional. Simple menu. Delicious onion soup and chicken salad. The steak though is a bit simple, literally just a steak and some fries. One has to order extra sides. We tried the mushroom but the mushroom seemed to be from a can. Nothing wrong, just felt cheap. Nice desert (see my photos) Love the wooden decor and ambiance.

Located in Staunton Virginia, this was a nice little restaurant. It resides in an old freight depot/station with a couple of old Cabooses situated out front. This restaurant has a cool atmosphere - very rustic. The service was very good, but the food was just good. Presentation was not the finest. Overall good. Would return if I was in the area again.

This was a pretty good lunch spot. They were very busy, but the staff was nice and fast. The burgers were mediocre. The ranch was a bit too...thin? Liquidy? The French fries and fried chicken were the best. A fun family restaurant and a unique building.

Amazing experience and excellent staff! We almost missed this spot while driving around the historic area. They have plenty of parking and antique train sections to see while you're heading inside. We walk in and spend most of our time waiting for a table checking out all the amazing art posted on the walls. My kids loved it! The waitress was super sweet and accommodating. She made our visit extra fun. Their foods were great and we would love to come back and try everything else. This is definitely an awesome spot to bring a date or the whole family.

Nestled down a cobblestone parking lot is this great restaurant. Walking in I was immediately greeted by a nice, young man. I was seated immediately and my serve came over right away. She was so sweet the entire meal. Quick refills, small talk, checked back often. Food was really good. Grilled chicken was tender and the extra crispy bacon I ordered was on point! The interior is really neat. The booths are like church pews. They seemed a little lopsided, so the floor might be uneven? It was a nice atmosphere and I'd definitely go back again!

The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.

We stopped in Thursday February 5, 2026. The cozy space, complete with a locally painted on the wall, gives it a warm, welcoming feel. In speaking with the matrade we learned the name of the restaurant comes from the Native American word that has become Shenandoah. After 20 years in business it's clear this place has deep local roots. The staff was friendly and attentive. Kyle, our waiter, did a great job and worked seamlessly with his teammates to make the experience memorable. We started with cocktails -- my wife had the Sage Advice and I had a classic Manhattan. Proper cocktails for sure! The crème brûléed cornbread and sweet potato bisque were standout starters. Probably could have stopped eating after those starters...For mains, my wife loved the pork loin and I enjoyed the pan-seared trout. We finished with the banana mousse, which was absolutely amazing! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend if you're passing through Staunton. definitely worth the stop.

The cocktail and mocktails were flavorful and well priced. Our waiter was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu, town and ingredients. We started with the Chicken Liver pate. This was well prepared, although I hate when a restaurant provides an odd number of toasts for two people. We asked for an extra piece and thought it was funny that they gave us exactly one. FYI- it comes with several accoutrements which were tasty, but the mustard was really the most satisfying. My wife had the brisket, which I would call a must have. Fantastic Asian spices, fried rice ball and Kimchi. Just an explosion of flavors. I was glad she shared. (This is uncommon) I had the pork chop and it was really pretty. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor and I had to carve off the fat which made up about 1/3rd of the chop. The bone was the other third...so it turned out to be a thick but modest cut. That said, it was on a lovely bed of mash and some of the best blue and white carrots I ever had. We finished with the carrot cake. (All of the desserts are made onsite.) which we learned was gluten free. Honestly if it was marked GF I wouldn't have ordered it. Anyway, when it arrived I thought we received the wrong thing. It looked like a decorative cliff bar. Once we took a bite we were blown away by the flavors and texture. It was delicious. Such a great experience. We were near the kitchen, so we got to see the head chef get orders out. There were some highs and lows, but the overall experience was really nice.
