    my thoughts on the place
    Rich B.

setting: mother's day brunch with mom and grandma and their 3rd daughters plus me. A 6 top. We online check in, come in get out on the list. Wait patiently for an hour and 20 minutes. We were told that 6 top tables are limited. So color me surprised when i walk in and see 4 tables capable of seating 6 people all with 4 people sitting at the tables. ok, fine whatever, it's mother's day, it's busy let's just get through this. right? so we're in line and party of 5 gets called up next "oh sorry we're actually six" the guy says. as they are taken in to get a table. no problem. while we've waited an hour and 20 minutes. At this point i complain to the hostess that it's kinda messed up that a 6 top (who thought they were only 5) gets seated with no wait before us. so of course i speak up. the hostess says she can take us now and brings us to two separate tables. this lady without asking us if it was ok or anything and after waiting an hour and a half get brought to two tables not even next to each other. two mothers and 3 little girls. my kids could not sit with their mom or grandma. mine boggling to me that this is sound logic to split up a party without asking first. moronic. that was it, we walked out. I have had many good experiences at cracker barrel over the years, this is my second time to this location and it will be my last. The previous time we visited service was subpar so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. We will not be patronizing cracker barrel at this location again.

Southern Fried Chicken meal with mashed potatoes with white gravy

I was in a tour group of about 35 folks and although this restaurant didn't take reservations, they were aware we were coming. The seated us in groups of 4 rather quickly amd the service was relatively fast considering they were busy even without us coming through. I've never really been a fan of Cracker Barrel, although some folks I know love this chain. I went with something quick and easy, the Southern Fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes amd Cole slaw. I the meal comes with 1 each breast, thigh, wing and drum stick. I prefer dark meat so I asked if they could sub dark meat for the white pieces but they aren't allowed to do that. The skin on the chicken was a bit hard for me and the chicken itself wasn't as juicy as I'd hoped it would be. Once again, I will state that the service was excellent, I just don't personally care for the food at this restaurant.

It's a chain; so you don't expect to much but let me say the staff is friendly the food is decent and prices are fair. Great for kids family and now they have alcohol even better.

The restaurant on the corner of Bridge and West First Streets in the center of Oswego is probably not something you'd expect to find in the area, somewhere that adds an entirely different dimension to dining in the city - a showcase of cuisine inspired by the American south. We recently tried out Southern Fare with some friends and we were all extremely impressed with the restaurant. My wife and I got there a bit earlier than our friends, so we sat at the bar for a bit. As someone who doesn't drink, I'm always excited to see mocktails on the menu. My wife got a cocktail, I got a mocktail, we both loved the drinks and the bartender was extremely nice and personable. We made a reservation for 6PM on a Saturday, although it seemed we probably didn't need one this day, so when our friends showed up, we were sat right away. Our friends ordered cocktails, while we ordered another round for ourselves, and again, loved everything we got. We ordered some friend green tomatoes for an appetizer, which were a little bland, but the sauce was good and made up for it. We all ordered a different main dish and everyone was very happy with their food. I ordered a pork chop special - I love pork chops, but don't eat them often, as my wife isn't a fan, and pork chops can be difficult to cook properly. The dish was a lemon marinated pork chop, grilled, topped with a strawberry compote, crispy fried potatoes and roasted broccoli. The pork chop was huge, cooked perfectly, juicy, bursting with flavor. The broccoli and potatoes were also delicious and needed nothing added to them. It's probably one of the best meals I've had in CNY, period. It was a little bit higher priced, but it's what we expected, and the food was absolutely worth it. We will absolutely be back again.

The fried chicken, same.. we got it plain to try it the first time naked, but I would definitely sauce it next time. Also ordered but not pictured was the double smash burger, Mac and cheese and chicken sandwich but my boys devoured them before I could take a picture.

First off, their website is odd. Not much information, quite confusing, sometimes it won't even load (on mobile device), so if you're trying to make a reservation, call them directly. Location, beautiful, along the river, great outdoor seating. I'm sure dinner and sunset is stunning. Good, it was okay. We ordered kids breakfast, huevos rancheros skillet thing, chicken and waffles, biscuit and gravy, and the whisky flight. The huevos ranchero was good, nothing to rave over but good. The chicken and waffles didn't come with syrup at first, I'm sure it was a mistake. The biscuit and gravy... looked amazing, but the biscuits were hard. Like rock hard, and even after sitting in the gravy, no moisture would come back. Haha Service... the lady was so sweet, but she kept forgetting us, she would place hot things right in front of the baby where she would easily grab it. She had a hard time splitting the bill. Ultimately we had to ask another waitress for water refill and splitting our bill. Maybe we will go back... but not in a rush.

I will say that the tables were pretty cramped together, so I don't know how easily a wheelchair would weave through the restaurant. The food. This is by far the best poutine we have had outside of Canada. SO good. Our kids who are not fans of fries normally devoured it. Delicious gravy on top of fresh cut fries, cooked to perfection. The steak frites was not great, don't waste your money. The so-called Korean chicken was laughable. I appreciate that they used gochuchang to give an Asian twist, but if you are expecting Yangnyeom chicken, this is far from it. The chicken had a thick hard batter, and there was the littlest drizzle of gochuchang and honey. Nothing else. No garlic. Nothing. Just honey and gochuchang. No. The Fried Green BLT was delicious. Highly recommend. Next time we go, we will be ordered the fish n chips (table next to us ordered and it looked amazing), poutine of course, and maybe try their burgers. Overall, I love the customer service, food was tasty, price was reasonable, we will be back. Kid friendly? Depends on what you consider kid-friendly? They had kids plastic cups. No kids menu, which is fine for us. But perhaps some families would like a designated kids menu, especially ones with activities for them.

My husband asked for a mixture of lean and moist brisket and the guy at the counter said "we only have brisket." It was at that point, I knew this would be an adventure. We went back at one point and asked for bread, and he raised his voice at my sister and said bread doesn't come with brisket. On to the food, the pulled pork nachos were weird. They used the mustard BBQ sauce which was an odd choice. The hot wings were good! The brisket was disappointing. It was still a little tough, and probably needed to cook for another two hours. The chicken was enjoyable. As for the sides, the corn bread was cold. The broccoli salad, Cole slaw, and potato salad was enjoyable. The place is easy to find and a decent amount of seating.
