we ordered a fish sandwich and a fish dinner, the waitress was nice but she kept forgetting our orders. Dinners get two sides I wanted fries and coleslaw, she thought I wanted fries and mac and cheese. Then she brought my wife her fish sandwich without a bun. the fish was small and over cooked. The fries were good but you didn't get many. You could see in the kitchen nobody was wearing gloves or hair nets. When I got home I saw that they charged me for two fish dinners. so this isn't too bad of a little place far upstate new york. so far, there's actually a Mexico on the other side of the freeway. came in yesterday and sat for a little bit, went and took care of business, and came back for the night because of the location and access to a restaurant. if you've never been to upstate New York before, it's the complete opposite of what you think New York would be. the people here are nice, happy, and polite. I first came in last night, and noticed that even though this is very rural, the restaurant was packed. all ages all types of people. I sat at the bar (even though I don't think they serve alcohol) and took a gander at the menu. they have paper place mats with all local businesses advertising so they're very community oriented. they were so busy last night, I think they only had three servers and they were running around like chickens with no heads. there's a sign that says that it's not a fast food place, and to be patient because every order is cooked / made to order. so the food. I ordered fried ravioli as an appetizer, and then I ordered the bucket of Bones. my only disappointment in this place so far is that my toasted raviolis sat in the back and were sort of cold when they came out, and I understand, cuz the servers were just that busy but it wasn't a great way to start off my meal. I ordered the bucket of bones, which is four baby back ribs, and three pieces of fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and cottage cheese. they came out piping hot, and delicious. oh and the portion size? really good size portions. I even had enough to bring back with me to eat today. they even gave me a soda to go. I came back in for breakfast this morning, and they actually have a breakfast buffet! and get this! you can even get the breakfast buffet to go. so you could basically load up your plastic tray as full as you could and walk out with 30 bucks worth of food for only $14.99! but I didn't go that route. as my pictures show, I had a southern style eggs benedict which the description is in the picture. they have a very good size and diverse menu, for all meals. my breakfast portion size was perfect, and, guess what? they even gave me coffee to go! the food is good, service is good, and I love the fact that they're so community-oriented, they even know their customers on a first name basis. and today, along with probably every other weekend day, they're having an open pit barbecue starting at 11:30 a.m. until I think they close, serving up brisket, pork ribs, and chicken. so if I get hungry, again today, I'm definitely going to hit that. if you're driving through this part of upstate, and looking for a place to eat, this is the place to go! read more

The food was hot and delicious. I had the haddock with onion ri gs and mac'n'cheese. So good. Mac-n'cheese was homemade. Hubby had Redneck lasagna, it looked and tasted like goulash from our childhood. The waitress and manager were friendly and attentive. The dining area was clean as we're the bathrooms. A large diner nestled amongst a truck stop and gas station. Stopped here on my way from Salmon River Falls to Oswego. True to it's name, this family restaurant offers an array of items on its children's menu. I was traveling with a friend and her 4 children and they were absolutely enthralled by their pizza, chicken fingers, and spaghetti. The 6 year old loved her spaghetti so much that she said "This is so good, it must be a 5 star restaurant!" Additionally, Wednesdays when kids eat free (with purchase of an adult entree, so I know my friend will be back). As for the adult menu, it was classic diner fare (salad, burgers, appetizers, assorted dinner entrees). As a vegetarian, there were very limited options, so I opted to create my own salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, 5 additional toppings, and dressing for $8.99). I chose my 5 toppings and was only served 3 and salad was missing onions. I was offered a substitution for a 4th topping, and the 5th I just gave up on asking for because the server seemed overwhelmed by our group. Of the ordered toppings, One was broccoli, which I assumed would be raw for the salad, but was served warm steamed broccoli; this is strange to me. I also got a topping of mushrooms, which I also thought would be raw, but were clearly just from a can. None of this is a deal breaker, just odd. It is clear they used to have an active salad bar pre-covid based on photos and the empty salad bar relic in the middle of the diner, so again, I'm just not sure if they used to serve canned mushrooms and cooked broccoli on their salad bar station. I also got a side of spaghetti and sauce ($2.99- which is a great price). The sauce tasted like that came out of a can too. None of this was problematic enough for me to complain. I ate my food and kept it moving. However, I want future Patrons to know what they're getting themselves into. read more

I've never of a truck stop restaurant only open from 8-8. That's ridiculous They should be open until at least midnight

The restaurant appeared clean and bright. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and was disappointed that it was served with only a small "sprinkle" of melted mozzarella cheese. I had to ask for Parmesan. No melted cheese deliciousness here. The portion was small. I'm used to being able to take a lunch portion home for the next day. Not today. A side salad would have helped complete the meal, garlic bread is the side. This was my impression before my "save around" coupon was denied because they are under new management. Apparently they have dropped the word "family" from the name. The road sign doesn't reflect this, and there is no sign on the entrance alerting customers to this policy. We have been coming here off and on for years. It's under new management now and our first trip was very good. I had the pork quesadilla and my daughter had the bacon cheeseburger with the fresh fruit cup. Both were just right. Price was very reasonable and all the food was fresh- nothing from a can. Wow. Hard to know where to begin regarding this place. Best advice I can offer is to head two miles south on Rt. 81 to the Parish exit where you'll find a place called the Gristmill. Go there. This place looked a bit off when we walked in next to the salad bar of crusted-over potato salad (etc). So we thought we'd order "safe" and went with a Reuben and a BLT. Yeah, well neither turned out to be any good. Reuben was total crap and BLT was edible but really lame. Food looked sad. Even my raspberry iced tea was closer to water than tea. Been here several times now over the last few months. In that time the store has become a One9 dealer, they have paved the entire truck parking lot, remodeled the two trucker shower/bathrooms and even the restaurant isn't what some reviewers have commented on from a few years ago. My family of 12 had lunch here today. Apparently they do a pretty good breakfast. However, that's where the good part ends. Can I just ask, how does one screw up a grilled Reuben? Well I sent the first one back as it was soggy on one side and the corned beef was cold. So this was not a Reuben as I know it. . It was not hot and melty as described on the menu. On the second try the bread was grilled on both sides and the meat was warmer. But it was still missing that melty quality that makes a Reuben a Reuben. But I could have handled that. The worst part of it was that the meat was so tough that I couldn't take a bite without the whole sandwich falling apart. I left the whole thing behind. My husband ordered a grilled chicken tenderloin dinner. The word "tenderloin" caused him to believe that the chicken would be tender. But he was wrong. He didn't complain but he left the meal behind. Most of my family ordered breakfast and there were no complaints about that. So there you go. Order the breakfast and you can't go wrong. Just one thing: The menu says they make their own corned beef hash. That may or may not be true but those that ordered it indicated that it was just like any canned hash they ever had. read more

Clear that new management does mean better. 1st they are not honoring Syracuse Book coupons which didn't change our order at all but the waitress was adamant that it was going to be better because of the new management. We had 2 sodas and ordered mozz sticks as an appetizer. $9.99 for 5. (Not better) I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, well done with extra crispy bacon and my bf ordered a pulled pork sandwich. Our food came and my burger was red but the bacon was crispy. It was about 5 mins before the waitress checked on us. The she took my whole plate to fix the burger. Well it took about 20 mins for my burger to return (bf had been done with his meal for most of the time) and it came with rubber bacon. I'm glad it was cooked correctly this time because she didn't come back to check for over 10 mins. She kept sitting at a table with a male customer. When she finally returned to make sure it was good (burger was gone and I was finishing up my fries)then asked if we wanted dessert. No thanks. She proceeded to go back and sit with the male customer. I waited about 10 mins then got up and went to the register to try to pay my bill. Then the waitress came up and said she would take our drinks off for the problem and calculated the rest of my total. How long would I have had to wait if I didn't get up? We won't be returning. Stopped for a quick bite while we waited for our son to come back from a vacation. Nice place to sit and catch up as there were quite a few locals here. Ordered the fried mushrooms, they were unremarkable but what you'd expect. The wait staff were courteous and helpful when asked about the quick draw. Sarah explained it well and waited on us with a smile. Nice getting to know her. I would suggest they overhaul the both seating as it's not the most comfortable since you say in the middle in some spots. Salad and soup bar. read more

We were there for dinner on Saturday evening and it turned out to be Prime Rib night. The salad bar and soup to the prime rib were fabulous.

Stopped here and had breakfast, food was decent. Every year when I come to New York on vacation, I stop by this restaurant with my wife and two of our friends. This year was our first unpleasant experience. The restaurant was busy, not crazy, but busy enough. Our server's name was Whitney. It took her 15-20 minutes to come over to our table because she was talking on a cell phone. I saw her get into a tif with another server who tried to ask for a little help, and she snapped back, "I'm talking on the phone!" as if she wasn't WORKING. We saw her before she came over and were hoping she wasn't our server for the evening. Unfortunately, she was. The food was great. I ordered the seafood platter, and I'd order it again. Our server looked miserable most of our time there. My friend playfully told her she should smile and she responded, "I don't feel like smiling because I'm here at work all the time." Clearly, she needs to grow up. We're not unpleasant customers, and we don't expect people who are in their work environments to be unpleasant towards us just because they're having a bad day, especially when we're spending $70-$80. Next year if she's working when we come, we're definitely going to be requesting another server if we get her again. read more

What can be said about the place that hasn't already been said? It's great food, great portions and the best of the American roadside diner. We stopped in here during a roadtrip based on my wife's previous experiences here. They do not dissapoint. Friendly people, good portions and varied menu....and don't get me started on the burgers. i see many shun away because its a truck stop, that's not a good reason many truck stops have excellent food and service! However this isn't one of them. I am a trucker and have stopped to eat here many times...As a trucker can always find a place to park that is most important..although the yard is full holes to bury most trucks.. The restaurant is another story... I have never been satisfied at the restaurant, Food not cooked properly salad bar usually a mess, lettuce is not fresh and the soup always scraping the bottom. Order usually comes not as requested,,,ie burger well done comes out raw. This restaurant shld be reported to the gov health authorities. I have tried this place many times over many years and nothing has changed..(rate 3 out of 10) like to see them succeed they have a good location and with more & better management could be successful.. Price is not an issue if quality food and service is present people will pay a fair price. My advice is get your act together management.. read more

I would give zero stars if I could! The food was sub part to say the least. First the water tastes like sulfur water...I got fruit punch that tasted like sulfur water. Then I see the waitress come out with a gallon of bottle water. I had to ask for that. Second, the salad bar was disgusting the spiral pasta salad was so old the pepperoni in it was discolored, the macaroni salad had a dry crust over it and tasted spoiled. The soups had been sitting so long there was a crust over that as well. There were flies all over the salad bar as well...even the croutons were nasty and had a layer of oil in the bottom of the container! Our meals came out and I thought yay our food! My broccoli was cold and looked old...no seasoning or anything on it...the baked potato and clam strips were fine. The chicken tenders my fiance got however were of poor quality, not even actual chicken breast strips, they were more the consistency of sponges! I feel bad for the waitresses. They made her come back and apologize and tell us they were taking one entree off. Never once did a manager come and apologize. Plus while we were here 2 other tables complained about their beverages tasting bad like sulfur and complained about the salad bar and soup. There's no reason to serve this poor of a quality of food! In addition the "manager" Rob was extremely rude when we asked to speak to him about these problems. Giving lame excuses stating "Noone else complianed" and "the servers just flipped the salad bar" Nothing but lies and ignorance! We will be contacting the heath department.
