We have been twice recently. The entire family went and we had the calamari appetizer and one of the boils that had crab, shrimp and scallops with potatoes and corn. My son and I loved the scallops, most of us were turned off by the shrimp not being deveined before cooking and the crab was just not worth the work. The service for that visit was impressive, which really made the meal. 4 stars Last week, my son and I returned for another run at just scallops, calamari again, and Cajun fries. The restaurant was busier this time, but not packed and there was still no waiting, but the service was far less than what we had just a couple weeks earlier. The food was good, not great, again. Got take out, and the service was impeccable. Greeted immediately, the hostess was very helpful and friendly while taking the order. Sent to the bar where I got a nice glass of cold water with lemon while I waited. Food was out in a timely manner. The good: The scallops were wonderful! And we loved both the Crackin' Crab and Lemon Pepper sauces. Also the black mussels were very tasty! The crab wasn't quite at the same level, but still good and enjoyable. The less than stellar: the shrimp had not been properly de-veined and was mushy. We were a bit grossed out by this. I'll return, but will forego the shrimp in the future. That's not an "it's New Mexico thing and what quality do you expect in seafood here" thing. That's a lack of proper preparation issue. It's Oct 17th, 2020. The boyfriend and I share a bday month. We decide to have a social-distance dinner at my moms house. They get mussels, snow crab, while the bf and I get Dungeness crab times 2. As usual it's amazing!! Getting the lemon-pepper mixed with the crackin sauce is AMAZING as usual. However, the Dungeness crab is smaller, and saltier than usual. In fact, it is like snow-crab and I'm not fond of it. I was think "I wonder what's going on?" But it's not a big deal because the up-charge is a $1 different. It's usually much more. So the company altered prices for the size crab they could get on the market. This is good business practice. Everyone loved their social distance dinner. Moms loved their muscles. We used kitchen scissors to cut thru the shell. Which is easier than the regular tools. Post-COVID I may just take scissors into the store. As usual 10/10! Happy Birthday to me and the boo!!! It's a weird experience, but it's fabulous seafood. We've never been to Crackin Crab, and we didn't do any research, so we didn't know what to expect, except maybe good crab. Cut to the chase: our crab, shrimp, and scallops were excellent. The experience and process were a bit strange, but we fell in love with it all afterward. So first, the menu isn't obvious; yes, you can order several products like crab, crab legs, mussels, and more by the pound, and you pick one of two sauces. The combinations were less clear until we saw you have three options (cast, drift, or gill), which you get a set number of three or four seafood options. We tried #1 ("cast"), which was 1lb of snow crab, 1 lb of headless shrimp, and 1/2 lb of scallops in one sauce. We decided to go with the Lemon Pepper sauce, which was outstanding. Now, you sit down at a table covered in plastic. You get a plastic bib to wear (and yes, don't feel silly, put it on; you'll need it!), and the food comes in a clear plastic bag with a 'garbage can' in plastic for all the shells and mess you'll make. It's weird, it's odd, you don't get any dinnerware, and you eat with your hands out of this bag. But the food was terrific! And it's messy but fun activity food. For just under $60, two and a half pounds of great seafood, one little red potato, and two pieces of corn is a screaming deal. My wife and I were stuffed to the gills (no pun intended here). The sauce worked well with both the fish and the corn. We were concerned the Crackin Sauce might overpower the seafood. The lemon sauce was perfect, but we may ask for a taste of the other sauce next time. You are also supposed to get a sausage, but my wife requested some coleslaw instead, and our server was very accommodating. You are supplied two tools to crack open the shells; there's one plastic device (shell slicer) I've never used before that did an excellent job of slicing through those crab legs. But what a bloody mess; a bowl to eat out of would have helped, but once you get into the eating action and understand everything is protected in (ugh, guilt trip) plastic, you can enjoy the meal. Our server, Cathy, was excellent; the food came out quickly, and yes, I would go back. The good news for us is there is a location in Santa Fe. I didn't take any pictures, which I usually do with all reviews; there isn't anything you want to view; it is not visually appetizing, but taste-wise, it was delicious. I think this would be an ideal takeout restaurant. You could ask for a few pounds of what you want in different sauces, take your bag home, use actual dinnerware, and make some nice bread to soak up the sauce, but dining in works, too. read more

But to be honest, I do think all the seafood boil sauces I've had are a bit too salty for me as I always go for the spiciest, maybe that caused the triple shot of salt or something. I think I've found my new seafood splurge, I'm not so rich that I can just go our and eat on a whim. We try to go out for once nice meal a week and we'll treat ourselves to an excessively pricy meal. We ended up getting king crab and lobster and it turns out after decades of thinking I like lobster more I actually prefer the taste and texture of crab more... I have been dying to try this place so finally decided to today and boy was I happy that I did! I chose to get my "usual", and try the king crab legs. I added andouille sausage, corn cob, and an extra potato. I opted for the lemon pepper and Crackin crab mild seasoning. I haven't had seasoning this good on Seafood, probably, ever. My dad had the house oysters and was full of glee after eating them. He eats or Oysters almost every time we have seafood and he said that these, were by far, the best. He also ordered the muscles with medium Crackin crab seasoning and they too, were amazing! My mom had her "usual," the softshell crab & and french fries and everything was delicious. On top of all of the incredible food, we had superb service by Lung. He was knowledgeable about the menu, the seasonings, the sides, and the beverage menu. He gave us just enough time between checking out the menu and ordering. In addition, he has great timing in terms of checking on you while you're eating, not too much, not too little. We can hardly wait to come back! We've been to most of the seafood joints here in town and this is one of our top three. Will definitely be back. We ordered the house oysters and the gill combo which comes with snow crab, clams, shrimp and scallops. The oysters come pre sauced with a spicy fish sauce, fish roe and a cilantro leaf. Sounds funny but super delicious. We got our combo hot and it was hot. Delicious and messy. Here are some tips. Never wear white when you dine here. The food is spicy and they use a lot of butter. This is the best crackin crab location in Albuquerque! The staff at this location are super attentive and willing to answer any questions you may have before ordering. We were seated right away when we came in for lunch. We started off with some oysters which weren't as big as they usually have but I don't think the employees have control over that. This was a great experience for myself and my family, three of the people I was with had never been here and loved the experience.
