Last night I took my wife to Seared for her birthday. I heard from others that the place was good. After reading the reviews, I got very nervous about my decision. But a plan is a plan ... First, the atmosphere. Not much. The place is small. White cloth dining. I did not feel the ambiance took away from the experience. Second, the service. Terrific. Unlike many other places in ABQ, the service was prompt and efficient. Our server was Chris. He was knowledgeable about the menu. He made good suggestions for wine and mocktail recommendations. The food was very good. We started with smoked salmon egg rolls. They come with a spicy sauce. Very good. We each had a house salad (they come with the entre). My wife had the steak kabob. The meat was lean and tasty. I had the chicken kabob. The vegetables were crisp. Flavor was good. My order came with calabacitas. We loved both dishes. read more

My wife and I had just done several hikes up in the Sandia mountains and wanted to find a burger place. Seared looked good and was fairly close to our hotel. On the outside, the place didn't look too attractive until we went in and found a very charming little restaurant. Our server, Casper, was a very friendly informative guy who knew their menu well. He made eating their five stars for sure. I'm both gluten and dairy intolerant and called ahead to make sure they could accommodate. My wife and I each had a burger and mine was on gluten-free bread and my wife had hers on a regular bun. My wife loved her hamburger and I enjoyed mine, although they don't carry yellow mustard, which is something that I always douse my burgers with. I also had a green salad and a side of green chile marinated roasted red potatoes, which were outstanding Everything was so delicious. The only down side was we found the burgers a little bit greasy, and we both are trying to watch our fat intake. I would also hoping in the future, they would carry yellow mustard for us guys from the Midwest. I would highly recommend this place and would visit again next time we come to Albuquerque. read more

Overall: Seared does an excellent job cooking protein but their sides and appetizers could use some refinement. Food: Appetizers: We got a variety including duck confit egg rolls, encrusted brie, fried asparagus, mussels, rattlesnake sausages and sopaipillas. The encrusted brie was a crowd favorite (who doesn't love fried cheese?) but I thought the addition of bread was unnecessary when the brie provided its own crispy texture. The mussels were good but a little spicy so beware! The sopaipilla was my least favorite dish. They served bite sized sopaipillas with cheese on top. A delicious idea but the sopaipilla was chewy and flat rather than fluffy. All entrees come with the option of a soup or salad. French Onion Soup: This was my side of choice and it was super salty. Norwegian Salmon: The salmon was perfectly cooked. It was flaky and moist but had crispy skin. The saffron tomato risotto that came with it was undercooked. The Farm: This comes with duck leg confit, lamb chop, and rotating protein (elk for our meal). Each meat was perfectly cooked. The duck meat fell off the bone easily and was succulent. The lamb chop and elk were tender and not overcooked. The green chile risotto that came with it was quite spicy! However, it does seem variable as others had the same side but it was less spicy. Lemon Leche Cake: True to its name, it was very lemony while keeping the tres leche cake flavor. It was quite cold. Service: 4 Our servers were very patient with our large group and did not make any mistakes with our orders. Ambiance: 4 Seared is a small restaurant with a southwest theme. Whenever that happens to me, I don't return to that establishment & I don't recommend it to anyone. So that being said, there are plenty of great restaurants in Albuquerque that are run better. Well, I really wanted this to be a different review. I would like to start off by saying that Jan, one of the owners, is a lovely woman. After my last experience, she offered a chance to try it again, and comp our meal. I thought it was very kind of her. We arrived at 6:30 on a Monday and were looking forward to trying it, again. It wasn't very busy, the dining room had maybe four tables filled when we arrived. I do like the ambience of the restaurant, it's cute with a sprinkling of sophistication, and reminds me a bit of Soho in NYC.. We ordered the encrusted brie and it was wonderful. The pine nuts were excellent as well as the strawberries and little crostini. There was a mixture of crackers in there as well. The brie wasn't incredibly melty like I'm used to, but it was for about a quarter inch around it and then the center was pretty solid. Still the flavor was delicious. The next course was the Caesar salads and they were wry good. My friend remarked that she loved the amount of dressing and we both found it very flavorful. Especially with a twist of lemon. The waiter ground fresh pepper over it and things were off to a wonderful start. Once the salad plates were taken from the table, the entire meal went downhill. We were ignored by the waiter. I mean, completely ignored. Several tables came in after us. They were seated and fed their full meal, paid and left. Still we waited. And then we waited some more. The table behind us ordered the lamb shank and a steak. I saw the food come out and the gentleman enjoyed the lamb shank, but the woman's steak was cooked wrong. They took it back and she waited, and waited, and waited. Then our waiter literally ran to the table to give her her steak. He still did not make eye contact with us or acknowledge our existence. Mind you, they had come in at least 40 minutes after we had. They paid their ticket and left. A table of six came in, and they all received their meals, and still, we waited. At 8:10, the waiter finally came back and acknowledged our existence. He told us that our meal was delayed, which we knew because we had seen everyone else get served before us. I let him know that we had been there for an hour and a half, and he pointed at the table of six, and said that their orders have gone ahead of ours. At 8:20, our meal finally came out. I had ordered the scallops, but requested a substitution for the side dish, because I can't eat prosciutto and melon. So I decided to give the mushroom risotto another try. I love risotto, and I really wanted theirs to be good. Our meals came, my friend had ordered the filet mignon and also a side of mushroom risotto, as well. The scallops were fine, but had been sitting too long, presumably, waiting for the steak to be done. So the scallops were cold, the risotto had turned partially gelatinous and was lukewarm. It was not worth the wait. My friend's filet mignon was too tough to cut, and except for the very center was overcooked. It was literally charcoal on the bottom, not seared like the namesake, but charred. Her mushroom risotto did not come out, so we asked the waiter if he could bring out the side that we had ordered. He apologized, and was nice about it. It was pretty much the most he'd spoken to us in over an hour. When her risotto came out, it was awesome. Because it was still hot. Great flavor, great texture, the way risotto should be. Maybe it was just another bad night. Maybe they are incredible. Maybe I just have really bad luck, choosing days. The meal was comped, and a very nice waiter from the other side with a beard and glasses, came over and apologized for our wait and listened to the concerns about the lukewarm scallops and risotto and the charcoal briquette of a filet mignon. He also seemed surprised at how badly the steak was cooked. It was a mixed bag. Some of it was incredible, some of it was not so incredible. It has a lot of potential to be amazing. We had a great Friday night dinner here and enjoyed every part of the experience. We started with the spicy scallops ($22), which had a nice balance of heat and flavor. The starter salad came with a creamy blue dressing that I really liked. For my main dish, I had the duck breast ($22), which was cooked just right and paired well with the sides. I started with the french onion soup and sharing the smoked salmon salad. The french onion soup had a good depth of flavor. It wasn't smothered with an overwhelming amount of cheese, but it had a nice broil to the top and I definitely enjoyed the cup of soup! The salmon salad we shared had a beautiful presentation and was a great little appetizer before the main. For the main, I got the kebab -- the steak was perfectly medium rare and served with a choice of a side (got the garlic mashed!)--overall I left super satisfied. We were looking for something a little more "upscale" in Albuquerque and this was one of the few options we found. I'm so glad that we picked it! We got there early for happy hour and found that they had some REALLY good deals on their apps! The Charcuterie Board was enough for 3-4 people and had a lot of different options. I expected the Encrusted Brie to come in a puff pastry, and was surprised that it looked to be breaded and deep-fried. However, it was delicious! Like no other brie appetizer I've ever had! The portions on the main dishes were MASSIVE! They could have cut the servings in half and it would still have been a good value. As they were, they were enough for 2-3 servings! I got the Braised Lamb Shank Pasta. The pasta itself wasn't anything special, but the lamb was beautifully tender and the sauce was excellent. Not pictured (sorry!) but by far the dish of the night was the Buffalo Short Rib. A HUGE chunk of short rib with a nice, salty sauce and the meat literally fell off the bone- it was perfectly cooked. There was also a Green Chile Risotto that I wouldn't call a risotto, but it doesn't matter because it was delicious! What a great off-the-beaten-path find here in ABQ. Love that the gluten free options are clearly labeled. My 6oz filet was cooked perfectly and was fork tender. The mushroom risotto should be an entree all on its own it was so delish. Salad was super fresh. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful and seemed to love their job. I really wish I could give this dinner praise but.... When we arrived, we were one of two tables in the restaurant at 5:30 pm and our server took awhile to greet us. Then our appetizer came out with mold on the bread which was changed out with burnt bread after 10 or so minutes. We then ordered our steaks (one medium rare and one medium) both came out rare. Our server never came back to check on us, so we had the hostess box up our full entrees. He finally came back only to ask about dessert, which we passed on. The steaks were seared, but grossly undercooked for my taste. There were four of us dining together and three of us had the filet mignon. Two of us (me included) ordered our steaks medium well and they were brought to the table rare--the only part that was even a little cooked was the outside where it was seared. The "well-done" came medium. I sent mine back for more cooking and it came back with the surface where I had cut it seared, the remainder was still rare. My wife sent the "well-done" back and it did come back well done. Also the steak was not as tender as I expected a filet to be. Service was mostly efficient, if a little strange: the waiter took the men's orders before the women's and the wait staff (four people brought food or drinks to the table) kept passing things in front of the other diners instead of walking around the table. They never cleared my alcoholic beverage glass. It was noisy. We could hear each other fine at the table, but we could hear waiters talking at just about any other table as well. I don't know if it was because the waiters were standing, but many times it sounded like they were making an announcement for the whole restaurant. There were four acoustic tiles on the ceiling (we counted). They should invest in more. All-in-all quite disappointing. read more

I ate the boar chops , the chops were fantastic 8.5/10 the potatoes au gratin 2/10 i ate two small bites and i would never eat it again . it is NOT like normal potato au gratin just a fyi in case you are used to the original stereotype. it came with some cooked apples which were a great combo with the boar chops . i would switched the potatoes with mashed potatoes. i will say i went with 5 others 6 total , and everyone gave the food range from 3-6/10 i would say if your more advantageous about food combos and non normal food items in common restaurants this isnt the place for you. if you enjoy new restaurants but absolutely a new taste buds like in every way this is the place for you . now if you like new things with at least 50% oh ive tried something similar to this but this is a new taste this is NOT the place for you. A quick look on Yelp showed Seared up at the top of the list for a nice dinner in ABQ. After checking out the menu and the reviews I didn't need to look any further for a Friday date night dinner. What a wonderful little restaurant. We were warmly greeted upon entering and while we didn't have reservations we were seated in a separate area that had a few tables and a very small bar area. I liked that it was intimate and cozy. Our waiter came over and introduced himself and took our drink orders and told us about the specials of the day. Boy oh boy I almost needed to take notes there were so many specials and each one sounded better than the last. Kudos to our waiter for having that memorized! We both started with a round of cocktails. A lemon drop martini for me and an old fashioned for the hubby. We each tried a bowl of their French onion soup. Very flavorful with lots of carmalized onions and a thick baguette instead of the typical croutons to absorb the dark rich broth. Of course all that melted cheese on top. Next up was a very nice mixed greens dinner salad. Their blue cheese dressing was excellent. I had the rack of lamb cooked medium rare (recommended) for my main course and they were cooked perfect with a cool red center. My husband had the filet medallions medium rare with bernaise sauce on top. Both our entrees came with thick asparagus spears. The plating was visually attractive and the taste of everything was wonderful. We were happily stuffed when my husband mentioned checking in on Yelp you get a free dessert so despite the full bellies we split the peach cobbler. Seared was the perfect date night find. Extremely unassuming location. OMG this is a must stop if you want a dinner or even just a quick appetizer and cocktail. We ordered a shrimp cocktail and charcuterie board. The jams on the board were outstanding. Then we ordered French onion soup, Smoke Salmon Louie salad, filet and Kabobs. The Salmon salad was perfectly presented and the grern chilli ranch dressing is excellent. The kabobs came with veggie mixed side that was melt in your mouth and veggies were perfectly al dente. The filet with mushrooms and potatoes and jalapeño snap peas my husband did MOO YUM YUM. I am a French soup connoisseur and this has a wonderfully deep beef flavor. I give it 8 out of 10. Friends from out of town found this place and we decided to share our first experience here. This place is near Old Town, quite unassuming from the outside. The decor includes multiple nice canvas prints of birds. Our server was initially friendly, but clearly had an issue when some of us ordered salads and declined alcohol beverages. While requesting his recommendation between two salads, his comment of "I would not order salad at a steak house" was quite rude. We ordered the spicy scallops, the bleu pear, and the hummus and feta for appetizers. The scallops were overcooked and chewy. The bleu pear did not go well with the bleu cheese. The hummus was ok. For our entrees, and to our server's dismay, we ordered the smoked salmon Louie salad, a Cobb salad, and the duck breast. All entrees took a long time to reach our tables. The salmon salad was smokey with crispy bacon, but it did not wow anyone. The Cobb salad had dry chicken. The duck breast was tepid and dry. Maybe the steaks were good, based on our server's passive aggressive comment, but if they can't manage to have good salads and duck breast on the menu, maybe they should eliminate them altogether. Overall this was not a good experience due to the service and the food quality. Definitely there are superior options for fine dining in Albuquerque. read more

Quiet and comfortable. We walked over from Old Town after reading the reviews. We're local to Albuquerque so we like to try places we haven't been or haven't been in a while. To start the service was friendly and helpful. Our waiter knew his stuff. We ordered the salmon cakes for an appetizer and they were delicious with the mustardy aoli. I ordered the duck l'orange as my main course, and it was the closest I've ever had to how I make it at home. Perfectly done where it melts in your mouth. The multi colored carrots were fun, if a bit overcooked. My husband got a steak dish that I can't remember the name of. It was also fantastic with amazing potatoes and asparagus & what a great sauce! Our waiter, however, seemed a bit, snobby I guess. I was part of a large party that recently dined at Seared. The positives were the cocktails, baked Brie, steak kabobs, filet, and duck. On the downside, the salads were not fresh. The salmon was a DISASTER for the four who ordered it. Every piece of salmon was mostly raw, and after being sent back they still came out very undercooked. The management did comp those entrees but their dinner was ruined. The waiter offered free dessert for those diners but never came back for their order. He was scarce to say the least. Lastly, my decaf coffee was served with Coffee-Mate instead of cream and was never refilled. Needless to say, I don't think any of us will be going back to Seared. read more

Went there for our one year anniversary and had to choose from a set valentines menu (250$) because our anniversary is the day before. which is expected. took an hour and a half to get our entrees. Waiter was all over the place didn't even bring us silverware. Didn't Light any of the candles. steak was literally raw and had zero flavor not even salt. the entire time it's freezing cold in the small eating lounge they have. DO NOT go here for a celebration or on a busy night you will be highly disappointed. The owner or manager nice old lady tried to compensate with the bill which was appreciated. My delightful dinner featured a perfectly cooked pork chop accompanied by potatoes au gratin, followed by a decadent crème brûlée for dessert. The pork chop was absolutely delectable. It was juicy and tender. Alongside the pork chop was a side of potatoes au gratin that was a creamy delight. Layers of thinly sliced potatoes were baked to golden brown with a rich, cheesy sauce that was both comforting and satisfying. The potatoes were cooked just right, tender enough to melt in your mouth but with a slight crispness from the gratin topping. Ending with the crème brûlée was a heavenly conclusion to the meal. The custard was smooth and velvety, with a delicate vanilla flavor that was complemented perfectly by the crisp caramelized sugar topping. The strawberry placed on top was the perfect addition for a burst of color and flavor. The ambiance for the restaurant was elegant, paired with exceptional service. Went for NYE dinner last night. I made a reservation after I saw the menu posted on Facebook. They had a special holiday menu that had many interesting and good choices. Upon checking in, we were offered a table in the bar area or in the dining area. We chose the bar area as we like the cozy atmosphere there. We started with a solid Old Fashioned. We shared Jan's spicy scallops for an appetizer. The plate contained 4 perfectly cooked large scallops in an absolutely delicious spicy sauce with onions, mushrooms, and chilis. It was served with two pieces of toasted bread to sop up the great sauce. For mains, the shared the Duck Wellington and the Halibut cheeks Each entree came with a nice side salad. We both ordered the green Chile ranch which is housemade and has great flavor and a nice heat. The Wellington contained a large piece of medium rare duck served along side a blackberry jam and simply dressed greens. The pastry was golden brown and flaky. The dish was delicious. The second dish-halibut cheeks were served panko encrusted with lemon buerre blanc sauce, along with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The asparagus was perfectly cooked the mashed potatoes were creamy and absolutely delicious. The halibut cheeks were perhaps just a tad overcooked but nonetheless good. For dessert we ordered the seasonal cobbler which was apple cranberry with a biscochito cookie, instead of the traditional topping, with ice cream. The dessert took quite awhile to come out and our waitress apologized several times. We weren't concerned as we had nowhere else to be and this gave us a chance to have a breather between courses. The wait for the cobbler was well worth it. Thinly sliced apples with the skin which I always appreciate because it adds to the texture. There were plenty of cinnamon and warm spices that enrobed the apples. The biscochito cookie that topped the apples was hot and was a nice change of pace to make the dish more New Mexican. The cobbler was served piping hot with house made ice cream. The decaf coffee was very good as well. Nice and strong. We had excellent service and our waitress even provided me with a couple of recommendations for books to read. We have always had great meals and service at Seared. We went Tuesday night and had a wonderful.Called in for a reservation. Seated right away. Had the fried asparagus as an appetizer with the green chile each, highly recommend. I had the braised lamb shank pasta with mushroom ragu and my girlfriend had the salmon with the saffron risotto. The restaurant has a chill inside with great local art.
