Reviews been a long time comin' Never thought the wings would be what I keep coming back for but here I am back at down n dirty getting 3 orders of wings to start! They are very crispy and extremely well seasoned. That down and dirty rub is mmmm mmmm mmm! The boil I got had head on shrimp, snow crab, cleaned shrimp and jumbo shrimp. We added corn potatoes and sausage. For a landlocked state this place is very good! My wife craves this spot! I always leave full and to be honest I didn't think the bill was too pricey for a seafood experience, like I said, in a land locked state. Service has always been very professional and prompt. I hadn't enjoyed a meal so much in a long time. The food was amazing! Trying to think of a negative...nope! Not one! I had not been before...Friend got Cajun Shrimp; I got the same. Delicious! First, sorry for no pics this time, but we were hungry and the boil was calling!!! Ahhh, seafood! I love a boil, and it was time to get together with friends. Of course we sat down right away and our waiter was right there to get things rolling. We started with the fried alligator with was tender, tasty, and spiced to perfection. Then, the boil! Hubby and I had the the king crab, jumbo shrimp and scallops with garlic butter and mild spice. It was done to perfection, tender, and delicious! Everything was fresh and the potatoes and corn, of course, the perfect complement. The spice was enough to kick it up, but not cause any issues. My friends niece (hates spicy food even took sips from ours!) The dining buddy, had mussels, shrimp, and snow crab with the standard garlic butter. Again, perfect! THe place is casual, service is prompt and friendly, and the food is great. It may be tucked into a wee corner, away from the street, but you need to seek and find good sustainable seafood done right. They do NOT have beer and wine. No, that's not a big deal, but yes, they should be transparent about that. We went for dinner. NO ONE mentioned that they no longer had beer/wine at any point. Food was outstanding, service prompt and courteous. We ate a variety of appetizers and the bag of seafood. Plenty of food left over to take home. Tables spread apart so you could easily talk amongst yourselfs. Highly recommended. read more

My pictures will come up soon, but my Yelp friend Shelly A. and I had a great lunch at Down N Dirty! I had never been there before. When we got there, there was a big party going on. However, the tables for the party were on the other side of the "L"-shaped eating area, and I hardly could hear them. Maybe they were too busy eating the delicious food?! I shared a bag of food with Shelly which included 2 corn cob-ettes, 2 potatoes, a 1/2 pound shrimp, and 1/2 pound scallops - all in the Down N Dirty mild-plus sauce which had garlic in it! As this was my first boil, we put on our bibs (provided) and dumped out the bag of steamed/cooked seafood and veggies right on the table (covered in plastic). This was a slight error on my part. The juice flows. In the future, I would take out the pieces of food and maybe ask for a bowl to put most of the liquid in so I could dip the seafood in. Live and learn! The juice didn't flow over onto the floor or my lap, but I think asking for a bowl is a good thing next time. Plenty of seafood for the two of us to share! We may have had 4 decent-size scallops and 8 shrimp EACH! The potatoes were a nice size! The sauce was perfect for my taste, but Shelly suggested we try the medium heat next time (which hopefully will be soon). Excellent Seafood - Crab Boil Style. They offer shrimp, king crab, mussels, crawfish and lobster tails plus typical great potato's and corn on the cob. Down N Dirty is located in the far corner of a small mall. The indoor seating is a perfect vibe not fancy. Johnny was our waiter. He was prompt, friendly, professional and gave us A+ service. Thought it was interesting that they give paper plates for the dinnerware. Plasticware is also used. I say interesting because the boil is well...juicy. Lots of food. Crawfish tail meat was in abundance. Loved the food. Maybe the sausage can be cut in slices to make it easier to eat since a plastic knife is given. The alligator was yummy and the sauce it's served with is good. Drink sizes are huge. The server made sure were were always filled. read more

Down N Dirty is one of my favorite seafood spots in town. It's tucked back away from the street in a strip mall and can easily be missed if you aren't looking for it. I love that they have so many options for seafood by the pound, they are one of the only seafood boil restaurants in town that offers langostino tails (that I know of). I always have an amazing meal here. The only downside to eating here is that they do not offer beer/wine. read more

I was so disappointed from the moment I walked in. The prices were crazy expensive...by far the most expensive of seafood boils in Albuquerque. We were seated next to a window to their patio. The entire patio was covered in bird poop and I mean piles of bird poop. We lost our appetite immediately. Service wasn't the friendliest either. We decided to leave before we placed an order. We went to Crackin Crabs and the prices and cleanliness was by far much better. I used to love the location on 4th street, too bad that one closed down. read more

Was taken here on a first date since we were both craving some seafood. We ordered Catch I with the standard down n dirty seasoning to share with some fries and it was AMAZING. The fries were super crispy and everything about the mussels, shrimp and crawfish were great as well. I took the left overs home (which was just the crawfish mostly) and ate it with some rice for lunch the next day and it still tasted just as good. It's a hidden little joint in the back of a shopping mall, but with how good the food is I'm surprised they weren't more busy. It was just us and another family there. Staff was nice and got our food out to us quickly. Very quiet and wish it was more well lit but was willing to overlook that. I will definitely be bringing friends and family back here. read more

This is an awesome place! The seafood is fresh, if you can believe that for NM, but it's true! We had the crab claws with the Down and Dirty spice. Lips have finally stopped burning! Hush puppies are legit! Corn was great and did I mention how awesome the crab claws were? This place got busy for a Tuesday and that spells green flag and good food! Beer and wine available to wash it all down with! I can say enough! The price is "market price" which means it's kinda expensive. ***Warning please read before ordering your food*** Me and my family have been ordering from down and dirty for some years now. I first want to start off with customer service over the phone was dishonest on the quantity and the amount that we were ordering!!!!! Once I got to restaurant it took them over 5 minutes to greet me as a guest.... Maintenance is definitely needed I will be calling the city !!!!!!! I asked for complimentary items such as a table cover beforehand I was knotted off and ask did you pay for your order!!!!!! I had to wait an additional 15 to 20 minutes for my order to come out the lady that gave me my order was completely rude and threw it on the counter and told me to sign my ticket!!!! She did not tell me thank you she didn't say anything and completely walked away. Once we got the food there was little to no sauce the corn was overcooked and potatoes looked rotten and tasted like dirt. We called to talk to management and nothing was done at that point but putting it back on us as a customer the crab was tough with little to no meat inside this will be my last time with the establishment or recommending them to anybody I am very disappointed in the staff and the way the situation was handled. read more

Diggin' It! If you really want to get your grub on, you can't go wrong at this place! Great grub, decent price and nice staff. However, I think the only reason I'm omitting a star is due to the fact that they must have been seriously understaffed the night we stopped in. We were there for roughly an hour or so, and during this time people came and left. Naturally after someone leaves, you'd think the staff would get out there and clear the tables, yes? Nope! Not a single table was cleared while we were there. Trash and leftovers just piled up everywhere without even an attempt at clearing the tables. It just struck me as so odd! The grub, mind you, bangin! My wife went to town on crab legs, while I wussed out and had the catfish, which was awesome, by the way. Large and plump, nice and moist and served with some half decent fries and seemingly homemade tarter sauce. I enjoyed it immensely! In addition, they have sour dough clam chowder bowls, yup! The bread bowl was nice and soft, quite consumable! The chowder on the other hand, just run of the mill I'm afraid. It wasn't thick enough and lacked the serious flavor that some chowders have. Not horrific, mind you, but just meh! The strangest thing, though, they tried to get cute with the novelty of putting clam shells in the soup. No clams still attached to said shells, just the shells. Obviously a ploy to convince us the chowder was homemade. I get it, cute, but pointless. They just got in the way and you had to fish them out. In summation, we'll return and when we do, hopefully they'll clear those tables and step up their chowder game a bit. read more

I'm a snob about my seafood I've not found anything to rave about till this afternoon the green mussels were great I wish I'd asked for more seasoning on the fried calamari I loved the food though I was told the place is called down a dirty because ttheseafood today my mussels came in a hot clear plastic bag and I had to dig in the bag to get my food. I love seafood boils but unfortunately this city doesn't have a lot of options. This place is one of the better ones in ABQ but pricey. The flavor of the boil is not your traditional cajun boil but delicious nonetheless. Not to mention they have more variety of flavors as well including lemon pepper and garlic butter. They do serve beer which goes quite well with spicy food. Great outdoorsey picnic style dining area that sets a great mood for dinner. They do have an outside dining area but was closed off due to the rain. One thing that was disappointing was that a lot of seafood items were not in season. That means you're eating frozen food! With that said, the seafood was not nearly as fresh as I wanted. Some items like blue crab and crawfish weren't even available. For starters we had a half order of gulf oysters. These are definitely not recommended at all especially if they're not in season as ours were very watered down. I tasted nothing but cold liquid when I took a bite. Probably due to being frozen and then thawed. For dinner we ordered 1lb each of the rock shrimp, Dungeness crab, and clams along with a basket of cajun fries. We ordered the down n dirty boil which had a unique and delicious flavor. For now I will rate this place at 3 stars until I can come back when the seafood are in season. This place is unique, tucked away in the corner, with one sign. This made me skeptical about the place as it was not very welcoming on the outside. As you walk in you began to feel the vibe of the restaurant, still a little dark for me inside, cold, I think the vibe be more welcoming at night when their lights provide the lighting. They say don't judge a book by its cover but sometimes you wanna feel welcomed by what is outside especially being tucked in a awkward corner. I had order the crab legs & headless shrimp with skin on in their version of Cajun sauce, which got my hopes up, but the seasoning was not that great we had got mild heat and it didn't have a slight kick at all. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. The ambiance is sorely lacking. The lighting is extremely poor and the decor is bland. I usually get the Down-N-Dirty medium flavor. Down-N-Dirty Seafood Boil is a blessing to this southwestern dessert we call home. We first visited their original location in the north valley, but we enjoy going to this location off of Wyoming (south of Montgomery) because it is closer to where we live. Plus it is a nice stop off the road during errand running. So now that I've addressed the good, let's turn to the bad and ugly. During my visits to Down-N-Dirty, I have heard mixed responses. I heard complaints like the customers did not like the presentation; they didn't like how food was served without plates; they thought the food had too much butter/oil. How could they not figure out how casual this place is? I appreciate the casual aspect of Down-N-Dirty. The name says it all, so if you are going to walk in with your white gloves, your white gloves better be made to get down and dirty. Well done Down-N-Dirty Seafood Boil. You are the best seafood restaurant this side of the Rio Grande. I can see you only getting better by turning your casual feel into a sister restaurant that caters to the royalty. 4.75 Oh no, review of the day and I didn't update my review after my last trip...since my first visit they updated the seats, no more bench seats, and they do have wet naps though I did have to ask. Now onto the old review which is still very valid. First things first, it says in the name "dirty" so don't come here expecting to walk out spotless. I've eaten at similar places before but this was definitely a unique experience. First off you're eating on picnic tables, the seats are made of wood so it's not super cozy (part of the reason it's not 5 stars). I totally understand why they don't have fabric seats here since butter and such would destroy them in short order. That said if you can sit on a wooden bench for an hour you're golden. Your second clue that this might be a mess experience is when they bring out silverware and they include a bib... oh there's no cloth napkin here you're gonna need that whole paper napkin dispenser on the table for your meal. We per the usual shared meals, I got the bread bowl clam chowder and she got the king crab legs, we had every intention of also having desert. The clam chowder had a shell in it, I'm not sure if this was intended (so you "know" it's fresh clam) or if they accidentally left the shell in mine. Either way I pulled it out and shrugged it off as kind of cute. The Crab legs were pretty awesome, we went for 2 potatoes and 2 corn on the cob and If I do it again we may just go for 4 corn on the cob, the whole meal comes in a plastic bag which is again kind of cute but have you ever eaten a meal out of a kitchen sized trash bag? let me tell you it's messy...There was tons of butter in the bag to dip in which of course gets all over your hands/arms/face/back/feet but the crab was pretty darn tasty and fresh. Kids meals were surprisingly inexpensive and the fries were very good (as was the chicken I was told) so taking kids isn't a huge expense. We walked out for under $60 (before tip) for 2 adults and 2 kids which is less than I've seen other reviewers quoting for a party of 2.... Other than the bench seat my only gripe is that they didn't supply any of those wet naps to clean up with, they do have a bathroom but when I spend 30 bucks on crab legs a baby wipe would be nice... our waitress could have been a bit more on the ball as well but overall the experience was very good and I'd pick this over Red Lobster every time. read more
