I came here for a friend's birthday celebration. There was definitely a good vibe throughout and everyone there was having a good time. The music was extremely loud and mostly consisted of lying dances which a lot of the ladies of course participating in. There were some gentleman joining in which made it fun as well. The DJ also came down to join in on the fun also. I didn't order any food because I'm not a fan of crab joints like this but I was appreciative that they reserved the table for my friend's birthday. Plenty of parking on the parking lot. Stopped in to have lunch with my son today. The place was nice, neat and clean but, nothing really appealing. Service was very attentive and polite. My son had a jack and coke which had mainly coke in it and I had an apple martini with no desire to have a second one. Our food order was taken and the food was bought out in a timely manner. I ordered the sampler platter.... mozzarella sticks, old bay wings, chicken strips and french fries. The food was very bland and tasteless to me. My son ordered the barbecue brisket fries and southwestern egg rolls and he wasn't impressed either. We both left without the desire to come back because the food just was not seasoned well. The ownership has changed as evident by the new sign/menus and staff. The feel is a bit different. The crabcakes nor shrimp salad aren't as good. The crabcake wasn't as lumpy as the previous owners. The shrimp salad seemed more chopped up instead of whole shrimp . The taste of both were off. The Brussel sprouts were really good, the ribs were average. The prices were good, the receipt is for 3 ppl. The staff was ok but not as professional as they could have been. Our waitress was nice . Welp, we came by once and don't have to come back again. Years ago, my husband used to run to Crackpot for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime but clearly that has changed. The food was just okay, the service was NOT okay and and the drinks were meh. The only thing that's great is the decor. They did a really nice job during quarantine renovating the space. It's nicely updated and feels sporty with 12 tv's tuned to the Orioles, golf, lacrosse, etc. were on; it initially seemed like this was going to be a nice, decent dining experience. We were seated rather quickly but when it was time to place our drink orders, there was a bit of a hiccup. Our server Lalatianna didn't understand what I was asking for (it was Sunday so I wanted a mimosa) as it seemed that English is not her first language (which is perfectly fine but that will always create a difficult situation if the staff isn't coached on what items might be ordered in advance). My husband asked if they had any crabs and he was told that they didn't have any but we later overheard that a table that was seated long after we were was getting large crabs. He ordered the Crackpot seafood cluster which was NOT a pound of snow crab legs. I ordered a crackpot seafood club which is a crab cake with seafood salad. It was just okay. It's safe to say that we don't have to come back; aesthetically, it's an upgrade but the service and food need to catch up. I really enjoyed the seafood at this restaurant. The crab cake was excellent and the steamed crab was good. The steamed crabs were a little pricey, but worth having a Maryland steamed crab experience. The only thing that could improve at this restaurant is the service was a little slow. I had to wait to get my drink refilled and had to take my check to the bar to pay, since my server was slow coming to my table. This restaurant definitely serves an amazing crab cake. read more

Grew up down the street in LR Village and this place was a staple. New owners completely renovated it and sadly took out all the charm of our "neighborhood bar." At first I thought the renovations were good but realized it now felt cold and sterile. Very generic. All the wall hangings like the "veterans wall" were thrown out. The wall between the bar and restaurant gone. Now the bar area doesn't feel cozy anymore. No mirror backdrop to the bar just one dimensional drywall and bottles. We ordered calamari one night and it was just literally crumbs. Can't believe they served this! Read a recent March 2024 article business is bad and im not surprised. Crackpot lost its soul. Now they advertise they want "ticktokers" and college kids? Come onnnn. This did well as a blue collar neighborhood bar. College kids will go into Towson not next to the Giant lol. New marketing won't work because they don't understand who their customers are. Locals! They need to bring back that local vibe and offer good specials and happy hours. Recently had a taste for some crab pretzel. One of my other local spots is now closed and Crackpot was the closest spot opened at the time. I ordered online, and I couldn't find crab pretzel. It said crab dip with pretzel chips. I'm like okay, boom. So after I finished shopping all over the place, I go to get the order. I get home and imagine my surprise when I see pretzel NUGGETS. Lawd have mercy. They had been microwaved. We all know what happens when you microwave dough items, you guessed it, the thing was hard as rocks. I had to get dressed again, go to a supermarket and find a baguette bread. I go back home again, cut the baguette, toast the pieces and finally eat. The crab dip was a little cream cheese than before, but it was good. It had been 15 years since I visited Crackpot. Maybe I will wait another 15 more. read more

Time was winding down to find a restaurant that my daughter wanted to go to for her birthday. I threw some suggestions out there and she decided on this one. I've passed this place plenty of times and was told about it before but never decided to go inside. I will say that the inside looks better than you would expect from the outside. We made reservations and was immediately greeted and seated upon entering. It was a Monday evening and it wasn't anywhere near crowded. Once everyone arrived, we ordered our food and began waiting. I settled on the sirloin and crabcake with broccoli and fries as my sides. Once my food arrived I knew it wasn't going to be good. Glad I got the fries (which were good) because that's the only thing that had any flavor. The steak just looked...off. I never had anything like it and that's not a good thing. I tasted weird and not "authentic". If you've ever seen the movie "Good Burger", I would assume that this is what a Mondo Burger tasted like. The crabcake was less disappointing but still sub-par. I managed to finish it though. It had more filler than I'd like and less flavor. The staff is friendly and that's the saving grace. If I ever return here, I'm only getting wings and fries. read more

Being in Baltimore and it being a crab place, we decided that we needed to try some. We went to the downtown area where a lot of restaurants are but the price was insane. We searched a bit until we found this place. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. It's in a shopping mall. But when you go inside, you are in a different world. It has 3 of the things that every crab house should have: the walls are pine paneling, theres sport fish on the walls and theres a sassy waitress. And the food doesn't disappoint. We had some crab cakes and the seafood pasta and they were really good. They were really generous with the amount of crab in the different plates. The Crackpot did not disappointment! Came here on July 4th and got what we wanted - big crab! The super jumbos were $105/dozen and $75 for the larges. I love this place, the drinks are good and the service is great. Christian was the only server, but she's very attentive, friendly and knows her job very well. Arrived late Saturday afternoon around 4:30-5:00. They had 2 dozen large crabs left. I jumped all over 6 of them. Also ordered their specialy $5 Smirnoff Vodka drink and it was yummy. We also had their yummy Cream of Crab soup and Clam Strips! Then at the end of the meal, owner Neil Smith checked to make sure everything was up to par! And it was!! For those who don't know, this is a family style seafood restaurant by day and college hangout by night and can be found in Towson, MD! They're also known for having the biggest crab cake in Maryland called the Pounder Plus. They have also been credited for making the first Maryland style gluten free crab cakes! Steamed crabs are one of their specialties and can be ordered year round! After being closed for almost a year (during the pandemic), The CrackPot Restaurant has reopened to mixed reviews. First off, when you walk in, you will notice a major change. The place has been handsomely remodeled, incorporating much light, booths as well as tables (both low and high top), a reservation and carry-out area and many tvs for it sporty look. The previous owner, Neil, sold out in the winter of 2019, and the new owners were the ones who actually closed it for the pandemic and to do the major overhaul. This much is a plus. What you will not find is many of the previous employees. Larry (at the bar) is still on site and visible most of the time. Ridge is yet to be found. Other than that, most everyone else is new. Therein lies the rub. The table service is not up to par, nor is the speed of service from the kitchen, whose staff is also new. We have been there about 10 times since it reopened in February, and the table service remains spotty as lately as last night when six of us were there for dinner. Our waiter seemed hopeless and unsure of himself. Our meals came out at different times so that we really did not eat together. We had to keep reminding the waiter to do things. It seems like he was just hired and no one trained him. The food is generally very good: the crabs are a little different (more filler than we were used to in the past). The soups are just ok, but the salads have improved. Favorite dishes like the 5 oz. filet, chicken salad and Turkey Dinner are no longer on the menu. However, the 9" pizzas have been added, and they are delicious. The shrimp salad is vastly improved with larger shrimp than those used in the past. Bar drinks...good, as usual. When we have encountered and talked to owners and managers, they were happy to hear any compliments or complaints...that is how one grows. On the whole, we are pleased with the new look and general menu. The owners need to put a little more effort into improving the wait staff. We are hoping to make this one of our regular favorites if that improves. read more

When family and friends visit Maryland for crabs, this is where we usually bring them. The crabs are kind of pricey though but they're meaty. The table is covered with brown paper and you'll be provided with wet napkins, cracker etc. They have sandwiches (non-seafood) that's available on the menu. I never got to rate them before but now that I'm on the road to yelp mastery lol, I felt it was time. Came here homecoming weekend recently and of course I got some wings (which I love) and the infamous zombie. Although I think the atomic wing sauce has changed drastically, because it's INSANELY hot I just couldn't stop eating it! Also I really do miss the prices, $5 for a shot of Hennessey! Overpriced, horrible service, with so-so food. Better off going to Red Lobster or another chain restaurant. We went to have an enjoyable birthday meal for our mother. The waitress started out by spilling hot butter that burned my sister. The $65 dozen of large crabs were really small and mushy meat on the inside. We sent it back, but the restaurant still charged us for the 5 bad ones we had cracked open. We never saw a manager once and on top of it they added a 18% gratuity when we only had 5 adults and the receipt said it was for a party of 6 or more. I was visiting family in Baltimore and made a special request for crab since Maryland has forever impressed me with their delicious sea creatures. They had just moved to the area, so researched online for a good place to go (unfortunately, they are not yelpers). When it came down to it, this place seemed close, reasonably priced and had crabs! We get there, and it's part of a strip-mall. Not the worse thing in the world, there have been some great secret treasures in not the most attractive places. The atmosphere was stuffy, and we had to struggle to hold everything on our table so the waitress could put a paper sheet on our table. We ordered crab for the table (which isn't on the menu?) and a pretzel with crab dip. DELICIOUS... then the entrees came. We decided to all split things so we can try everything. The sides reminded me of my elementary school cafeteria food- and the soft shell crabs were not edible- they were so fishy I couldn't even pretend to like them. The crab cakes were to die for- why did we just not order these? I also got a bite of a steak, which tasted like any other steak. Would I recommend it? Maybe. My wife and I, along with another couple visited on 3/23/24 at 6:15PM. Appetizers included cream of crab soup and calamari, and spicy cauliflower. They were just "OK". The soup had a bit of a fishy taste. Our entrees included (1) fried shrimp dinner, (2) crab cakes dinners, and (1) fried catfish dinner. The (2) crab cake dinners were terrible with very little crab and tasting fishy with some kind of fillers, not edible. The fried catfish was not cooked/raw inside. The crab cakes and the catfish were sent back. I felt bad for the sever, she seemed embarrassed. For a Saturday evening, the restaurant was virtually empty. The ambiance was bright and open, but not appealing. The bathrooms had combination locks, probably an indication of the local clientele. Overall, a terrible experience walking out never planning to return. They were very unappetizing. The fish was average. Nothing special but not terrible. The crab cake was truly terrible. It had a very odd texture. The mix was way over mixed and the pieces of crab were very broken up and the cake was mostly filler. That was recognizable by odd texture and bland taste. I would not eat here again. This is a casual local bar to watch some sports while you down some brews and notch on some bar food. Don't get me wrong---I like the place! But as a restaurant, it's sort of stuck in a time warp, and needs some improvements to the decor and the menu. The steaks I got were pretty good. The cheeseburger was huge, came on an huge bun most normal humans could hardly wrap their mouth around. But portion size in a cheese burger didn't make up for the lack of seasoning in the hamburger meat. The salads were awful, you can make a better one at home. The Fish and Chips were okay, but not much better then the fast food places across the street. The crab cakes were generous size and full of crab meat with high prices to match. The menu is large, but I had the sneaky feeling that a lot of the food is frozen and bought in. NO, the kitchen and the place are NOT dirty---but the decor looks really dated. A rare crab house that actually cares about gluten issues... We had a most helpful waitress who made sure everything coming to the table was gf--in fact she would not let us take a chance with the fries since they do a lot of gluten food in the same fryer. The crab cakes were wonderful and rank right up there with gluten ones. The corn on the cob was good. They make their own cole slaw and it was top quality. Tartar sauce is important to me and theirs was yummy. The only slight disappointment was the steamed shrimp which were way too salty for us and very difficult to peel. This will be our choice any time we crave a crab cake. And, boy, those fries sure looked great as they passed by our table...smile read more

Someone recommended MO's to me, but turned out they didn't have hard shell crabs, by chance we went here, I am a crab addict when I make it to Maryland. The medium were bigger than most of the large I have bought, we also had the fried shrimp, delicious. I only wish I had ask the kitchen for coleslaw recipe, it was amazing.
