From the first planning conversation through the actual event, everything went so smoothly. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how great the food and service were. DJ took amazing care of us all night. He was super accommodating with drinks, checking in on the music, and making sure the timing of each course flowed perfectly. It was ok... just ok. I had high expectations so that's reflective in my rating. While I didn't get the infamous crab cake I did get stuffed rockfish and I was underwhelmed. The pickled beets were good the rice pilaf dry and disgusting. I opted for sangria it was ok. We had a large party in which they reservation the host was told we would have to sit separately. Arrived and wasn't seated until one whole table was there ... so if u reserve everyone has to be there together.... Bathrooms small but it is a private one up front near elevator much cleaner and bigger... wait staff just ok didn't bring everyone waters I guess u have to ask but I witnessed him walking away from the table with them lol just give the waters to us.... read more

Recently visited for a family dinner and while I have been here so several occasions, each time I leaved very full and pleased! The service to start off is great despite how busy it was. There is however a dress code which comes as a surprise given it's not a super fancy restaurant imo. Granted I have never seen anyone come dressed short of nice and presentable so I'm unsure how strict they are about it. Food wise, we got calamari for the table and this time I got the crab imperial. I was skeptical because I always get the crab cakes and I was unsure how I would like it given how heavy it sounded but it was delicious! I have to say I preferred it over the crab cakes 1) price point 2) quantity of lump crab meat 3) enjoyable throughout as it was not dry so it paired nicely with the sides. read more

TLDR: Classic Baltimore spot with solid crab cakes, nostalgic vibes, and a huge menu. Pricey, but portions and flavor mostly make up for it. Pappas Restaurant in Parkville is pretty much a Baltimore institution. They've been around since my parents were kids, and I've been an on-again, off-again diner here over the years. The place shows its age, but in a good way, think old-school, family restaurant charm that brings back memories of eating out with the folks. They're most famous for their crab cakes, which Oprah once claimed were the best in the game. I wouldn't go quite that far, they're good and maybe top 10 in the area, but Baltimore's got better offerings. On my most recent visit, I tried the Seafood Club, which is basically a triple decker sandwich stacked with shrimp salad and one of their signature crab cakes. It was just as solid as I remembered. The crab cake held up, and the shrimp salad was creamy and well-seasoned. I came with a party of 12, so we were able to get a good sampling of the massive menu, and everyone left happy. One dish that really surprised me this time was the crab imperial. Jumbo lump crab smothered in a creamy sauce and broiled to perfection in a ramekin. It's basically a jazzed up crab casserole, and a great alternative to ordering two full crab cakes. Bonus, it comes at a slightly lower price. Speaking of pricing, Pappas isn't cheap. Most dishes fall in the $20-$40 range, so I'd consider it more of a special occasion kind of place. That said, the portion sizes are generous and the quality is there. Overall, while I don't fully agree with Oprah's bold claim, Pappas is still worth a visit if you're after a classic Baltimore seafood experience with a side of nostalgia. read more

We've been to a couple of other Pappa's locations but never to the original. We got here for lunch around 12:30 on a Wednesday and semi-busy. Sports Bar set-up with mixed seating- a Bar area, dining area and an area with a few TVs. Wednesday, they have $3 off Crab cake special. We ordered a Crab cake platter and a Burger. Crab cake was as delicious as I remember it. Side Caesar and Green Beans were very good. BYO Cheese Burger was ok. Beef had an after taste-not sure if it was the seasoning? The appetizers we chose were salmon cakes (came on a bed of mixed greens & walnuts with a sweet dressing) and coconut curry mussels. The crab cake entree comes with 2 sides. The side salad portion was bigger than the potato salad. We liked the appetizer and entrees, as they were not overly salted like other places. The fenwick sampler for dessert came with 3 pastries. It was okay, not my favorite. Overall, it was a lot of food for a great price of $39.25 per person. read more

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT HERE!! So, I've Only had carry out from this particular location but I have eaten several times at the location in Glen Burnie. Needless to say it will not be the last time that I visit either of the restaurants. I love football season it's always a great time to fellowship with fellow sports lovers. And I am so glad I looked up this location to see what was going on for a Ravens game and it just so happens that they are also a Ravens roost location. The bartender was excellent all of them that we encountered and the food specials were irresistible!! Definitely check them out for game days and make sure you bring an appetite the specials started at about 7 PM and every half hour there was something different to try. This is our third time eating here. Everything was amazingly delicious. I had the lamb chops with asparagus and baked potato and my husband had the double crab cakes. Someone else in our party othered the chicken fettuccine alfredo and stuffed rockfish. Service was great. I think we had Patrick who said we could also request him again next time. We were a larger party so we had one of the long tables in the back right, which was nice and sort of secluded from the rest of the restaurant and we had a TV to ourselves as well. CRABCAKE EXPERIENCE: Overall an OK crab cake experience. The crab cake has a little too much filler for me and is broiled longer than my liking. I do appreciate their takeout order operation is a standalone outside on the side of the restaurant. The crab egg rolls also were a bit underwhelming as it seemed to have an imbalance ratio of filler to crab meat. For the price of the crab cakes here it is a good, cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive crab cakes in the region that are larger and better in quality. Give them a try. read more

It is wildly unfortunate that the general manager, Jeanie Nesbit, has managed to completely ruin my desire to frequent this restaurant. There is a time and a place to speak politics, and as a general manager, Jeanie should realize that social media is not it. Be careful if you exit their parking lot onto Oakleigh. There is a poorly marked curb that will damage the underside of your car if you go over it. The manager acknolwedged that this happens frequently but seems to be oblivious to the fact that this could cause someone to have an accident let alone costly repair. (Also, don't order the Sangria as it is mostly ice and gingerale and maybe some red fruit juice but little if any red wine). read more

Went here for a group Christmas dinner. Waiter and assistants were very attentive and made sure we had everything that we asked for within a timely fashion. There was a specific menu to choose from for your entree.all entrees come with a baked potato and family style mixed vegetables. I choose the salmon. This was my first time at Pappas restaurant in Parkville. The restaurant is to the left of the building and they have a sports bar to the right. I ordered one of the chefs specials called The Bay and Backyard which is their 8oz crab cake and a rack of bbq ribs. I didn't know ribs could be so lean and they weren't that tasty. The ribs were flavorless and the sauce was lightly brushed on and had no taste. The crab cake was total opposite of the ribs and was fantastic. I see why Oprah voted them the best crab cakes before. They do know how to make a great crab cake. I ordered an alcoholic drink called a watermelon refresher which was okay. It was very light watermelon flavor. From the outside this place looks ordinary, hidden almost. The inside is impressive I'd say. Half of the restaurant is dedicated to indoor dining and the other half is a bar giving local pub vibes. I found that uniform a restaurant. I didn't try their crab cakes but I did order their crab dip appetizer which was ok. Not great but ok. I visited Pappas about 7 years ago with a friend who said they had the best crab cakes ever. In this area, it is tough competition to anything crab. Lots of places can go toe to toe. Pappas has a bit of a heads up over other popular places. No fillers, jumbo lump crab mixed in what seems to be a mayo dijon concoction. Broiled just right. Consistency perfection. You could taste the love they've put into their perfected recipe. Not weighted down by breadcrums or crackers. Not old bay seasoned to the God's. Just a great old fashioned, no filler crab cake that hits the marl every time. We also had a few oysters and a mixed drink I can't recall because all of my photos vanished :( The oysters were fresh and the drink was a reddish pink and it was good and strong. The service is accommodating and very kind. The prices are good, not too pricey. The establishment is quickly tended to and wiped clean before the next patron is seated. Horrible taste in my mouth. Not the food but the service and overall experience. Never in my life have I been put out of a restaurant!!! My significant other and I chose to celebrate our anniversary at Pappas Restaurant in Parkville out of many options. It was my call and I made a bad decision. Note: I have dined in this restaurant and the Timonium location several times over the years. We got dressed up and arrived at the restaurant right around 8:30pm on a Tuesday evening. There was no one at the hostess booth to greet us. After a short wait, we were taken to the dining area and the server was going to seat us but the table was dirty and had not been cleaned. We waited a few minutes for them to clean it and then we were ready to check out the menu. We ordered drinks (2), an appetizer, dinner (2), and a dessert. Fast forward to the end of our dining experience. We paid the bill quickly and left a 25% tip. We were having a good time and I was finishing the last of my drink. I think it was was pretty obvious that we would be heading out in just a few minutes as we had finished dessert and had our remaining dinner boxed to go. Some man (Caucasian/bald) comes over to the table who I can only assume was the manager. He did not greet us appropriately or state his name or position. He was dressed more like the team leader at Old Navy than the manager of a nice restaurant so I can only guess. He was very rude!! Basically he told us we had to "take it to the door." I asked if I could finish the drink and in so many words, he said no, we needed to get up and leave right that moment so he could lock the doors. I could understand his sentiments so we got up and left right that second. I asked my partner what time it was because it MUST have been very late to receive this type of treatment. It was 10:10pm. The restaurant closes at 10pm. I don't know any business of this nature (good service/fine hospitality) that expects to leave right at the exact moment of closing. Most have staff scheduled for at least 30 minutes after closing to clean up and allow for any patrons that may be wrapping up purchases/meals. There were several ways this could have been handled which I won't go into as this review is already lengthy. I will add that I am a good customer and usually very cognizant of others schedules and time. We called ahead before coming to ensure we would have enough time but they do not answer the phone. Also, before finishing dinner/ordering dessert, we asked the waiter if we would have enough time and he said that we did. No rush. I still chose to box my food because I knew that closing was near. Moral of the story: if they had waited another 2-3 minutes, MAXIMUM of 5 minutes, I would have been writing a different review. Went here for a late night dinner with my boyfriend and his close friends. They have floor and bar seating. We had floor seating. The restaurant was packed. Restrooms are located in the front and in the middle of the restaurant. For drinks we ordered a white sangria for the table. That sangria was wonderful. For individual drinks( that I can remember), we ordered: Two virgin Pina colada (not an ice drink) Be my valentini The Pina colada went down so smoothly, but as you went to the end of the drink, it started tasting like milk. The other drinks were very tasty. I'm glad my fiancee and I went because we were hungry and it was only ten minutes away. When people say jumbo crab cakes they meant it! I visited Pappas based off a recommendation. My friend can't stop talking about their famous crab cake. I must admit this is one of the best crab cakes in Maryland. There is so much lump crab meat and it's really big in size. I was surprised by how much crab was in the stuff mushroom caps, I could barely find the mushrooms in this dish. We had a reservation for six and got seated immediately. They definitely revamped the place from the last time we were here. It's more bright and open. What threw us off was how expensive everything was. Higher than what we all expected. The crab cake was ok, nothing spectacular. I've had worse and I've had better. The asparagus was boiled lifeless with no seasoning. I took it home and put in my air fryer with some salt and brought some taste out of it. The service was awfully slow too. I just tried to order $80 worth of food for delivery and guess what.... their delivery service "Toast Online" does not work. It kept giving me an error code saying that the delivery time of 67 minutes has expired and yet that was the only delivery time option. 67 minutes. So it appears that when you order delivery from Pappas through their delivery service "Toast Online" there is some glitch in the process. I tried every way possible to get delivery (10 different times). I tried to call them and could not get through to a human being. Hmmmm... Pappas crab cakes are very good. I'm from Parkville, MD and have had them over the last 40 years . But. as anyone from Baltimore knows, there are many, many other purveyors of a top Baltimore crab cake. There is G&M, Jimmies, By the Docks, and many more.0 Bottom line.... If Pappas doesn't deliver, I will find who does deliver a good Baltimore crab cake. I had been craving crabcakes for a while and one of friends lived in the area so we decided to check out Pappas! We ordered takeout with myself ordering a crabcake sandwich (which comes with fries) and my friend ordering a single crabcake with 2 sides. The takeout process over the phone was a little stressful (however not the fault of the employee); however, the employee was a little passive aggressive with my friend. Now when it comes to the food, it's been so long since I've had a lump crabcake and let me tell you the crab meat was plentiful! I will say though, there's no other seasoning and could be much better if old bay or even salt & pepper were added to the mix. My Girls and I love to stop here when we are in the area. Yesterday was one of our worst experiences. Jess W. our waitress had bad customer service. Our crab soup was cold and instead of new bowls she microwaved it. Our food also came out lukewarm as we observed it sitting as she socialized with other customers and staff. Jess was very unapologetic for the mediocre food and her poor customer service. She also tried to over tip herself by not bringing back our change. Popped in to grab something for hubby since I know he doesn't eat crabs. After pulling in, I was able to quickly glance the menu. So I ordered hubby the seafood platter, which came with a crabcake, flounder (or some type of fish), and other items plus 2 sides. I chose the the baked potato and cole slaw. The service was solid, decent enough Covid procedures, and a good variety on menu, but I left with more to be desired. They're dessert menu has a large variety of treats if you save room! - The move quick cleaning down the tables, and switching out table cloths between guests (the menu was even wet at our table, which I was okay with, as it had just been wiped down) - Complimentary bread is always a nice touch. GROWS: - The tables were spaces out a good distance, but I found people still did not respect personal space as they walked about the restaurant. Staff did a good redirecting customers to put on their masks, which was annoying that they even had to. - Having extra tables used as spacers has been effective in other restaurants, as ppl cannot get close due to the physical barrier. - The crab cake lacked in flavor overall. This location was recommended to us as best crab cake so we had to come try .. when in Rome.. and if you come to Baltimore and not allergic to seafood you should eat crabs!! Lol.. on menu it states one of ophras fav things .. gotten many awards so we figured we were in best place.. that being said this is not place that skimps on crab meat and you will pay for the quality so just understand it's great quality. The crab cake we ate had huge lumps of crab and not lot of binder.. was pretty big in size and came with 2 sides.. our waitress was very nice and attentive. She checked on us frequently but just enough.. it's not extra fancy but it's a nice dining room well lit .. lots of tables nicely spaced so your not on top of each other. We enjoyed our dinner and would recommend this place for anyone visiting the area. They have lots of options including a sports bar on the other side of the restaurant. We didn't go but looked nice.
