TLDR: Classic Baltimore spot with solid crab cakes, nostalgic vibes, and a huge menu. Pricey, but portions and flavor mostly make up for it. Pappas Restaurant in Parkville is pretty much a Baltimore institution. They've been around since my parents were kids, and I've been an on-again, off-again diner here over the years. The place shows its age, but in a good way, think old-school, family restaurant charm that brings back memories of eating out with the folks. They're most famous for their crab cakes, which Oprah once claimed were the best in the game. I wouldn't go quite that far, they're good and maybe top 10 in the area, but Baltimore's got better offerings. On my most recent visit, I tried the Seafood Club, which is basically a triple decker sandwich stacked with shrimp salad and one of their signature crab cakes. It was just as solid as I remembered. The crab cake held up, and the shrimp salad was creamy and well-seasoned. I came with a party of 12, so we were able to get a good sampling of the massive menu, and everyone left happy. One dish that really surprised me this time was the crab imperial. Jumbo lump crab smothered in a creamy sauce and broiled to perfection in a ramekin. It's basically a jazzed up crab casserole, and a great alternative to ordering two full crab cakes. Bonus, it comes at a slightly lower price. Speaking of pricing, Pappas isn't cheap. Most dishes fall in the $20-$40 range, so I'd consider it more of a special occasion kind of place. That said, the portion sizes are generous and the quality is there. Overall, while I don't fully agree with Oprah's bold claim, Pappas is still worth a visit if you're after a classic Baltimore seafood experience with a side of nostalgia.

We've been to a couple of other Pappa's locations but never to the original. We got here for lunch around 12:30 on a Wednesday and semi-busy. Sports Bar set-up with mixed seating- a Bar area, dining area and an area with a few TVs. Wednesday, they have $3 off Crab cake special. We ordered a Crab cake platter and a Burger. Crab cake was as delicious as I remember it. Side Caesar and Green Beans were very good. BYO Cheese Burger was ok. Beef had an after taste-not sure if it was the seasoning? Service was attentive and friendly. Would most definitely return for the Crab cake.

Great service. Family friendly ambience. We went with the summer restaurant menu. The appetizers we chose were salmon cakes (came on a bed of mixed greens & walnuts with a sweet dressing) and coconut curry mussels. The crab cake entree comes with 2 sides. The side salad portion was bigger than the potato salad. We liked the appetizer and entrees, as they were not overly salted like other places. The fenwick sampler for dessert came with 3 pastries. It was okay, not my favorite. Overall, it was a lot of food for a great price of $39.25 per person.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT HERE!! So, I've Only had carry out from this particular location but I have eaten several times at the location in Glen Burnie. Needless to say it will not be the last time that I visit either of the restaurants. I love football season it's always a great time to fellowship with fellow sports lovers. And I am so glad I looked up this location to see what was going on for a Ravens game and it just so happens that they are also a Ravens roost location. The bartender was excellent all of them that we encountered and the food specials were irresistible!! Definitely check them out for game days and make sure you bring an appetite the specials started at about 7 PM and every half hour there was something different to try. Is well worth the inside experience!

This is our third time eating here. Everything was amazingly delicious. I had the lamb chops with asparagus and baked potato and my husband had the double crab cakes. Someone else in our party othered the chicken fettuccine alfredo and stuffed rockfish. Service was great. I think we had Patrick who said we could also request him again next time. We were a larger party so we had one of the long tables in the back right, which was nice and sort of secluded from the rest of the restaurant and we had a TV to ourselves as well. We had some family visiting from NY and they loved everything, said it was the best meal they had in MD.

CRABCAKE EXPERIENCE: Overall an OK crab cake experience. The crab cake has a little too much filler for me and is broiled longer than my liking. I do appreciate their takeout order operation is a standalone outside on the side of the restaurant. The crab egg rolls also were a bit underwhelming as it seemed to have an imbalance ratio of filler to crab meat. For the price of the crab cakes here it is a good, cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive crab cakes in the region that are larger and better in quality. Give them a try.

Went here for a group Christmas dinner. Waiter and assistants were very attentive and made sure we had everything that we asked for within a timely fashion. There was a specific menu to choose from for your entree.all entrees come with a baked potato and family style mixed vegetables. I choose the salmon. Nice sized piece of salmon and cooked perfectly.

This was my first time at Pappas restaurant in Parkville. The restaurant is to the left of the building and they have a sports bar to the right. I ordered one of the chefs specials called The Bay and Backyard which is their 8oz crab cake and a rack of bbq ribs. I didn't know ribs could be so lean and they weren't that tasty. The ribs were flavorless and the sauce was lightly brushed on and had no taste. The crab cake was total opposite of the ribs and was fantastic. I see why Oprah voted them the best crab cakes before. They do know how to make a great crab cake. I ordered an alcoholic drink called a watermelon refresher which was okay. It was very light watermelon flavor. I would like to try other Pappas locations.

One of the best crab cakes in Baltimore! I love coming here for dinner or to watch the football game at the bar during football season! Always exceptional service and a great vibe. Definitely recommend.

Date: April 25, 2026…read more I visited Papas (Side Bar) on April 25, 2026, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. First, the food quality has declined compared to my previous visits over the years. I have been a loyal customer for a long time, and what I received was not consistent with how the dish has been prepared before. When I politely asked the server (Katie) to take the plate back because it was not as expected, she became upset and responded in an unprofessional manner. She questioned what was wrong and stated that the dish would come out of her check. I calmly explained that I have been coming here for many years and that the preparation was different from before. Her response was inappropriate--she mentioned that "Mr. Papas died in November," which I found disrespectful and unnecessary. Regardless of any internal changes, this is not something that should be communicated to a customer in that manner. I then asked to speak with a manager and explained the situation. Unfortunately, the server continued to behave rudely while I was addressing the issue. This experience did not reflect professionalism, respect for customers, or the standards I had come to expect from your establishment. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve both service and customer experience moving forward.

I ordered the chicken quesadilla, the husband ordered wings and french fries. The chicken quesadilla was delicious, served with salsa and sour cream. The wings were a little dry but the fries were great. I was going to give Freddie's 4 stars until I woke up the next morning and saw the 18% gratuity charged to my bill. I was overwhelmed with the taste of the selection. I enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and the pulled pork sliders the best. The Greek pasta salad and the pretzels weren't too bad. The chicken tenders needed salt in the cooking process because they were bland and the honey mustard didn't do any favors. The crab dip was disappointing. I've had their crab dip before and I liked it but this time, it just tasted off. I feel like I tasted more cream cheese than crab. For this shindig, the drinks were the clear winner. This was a nice and spacious event space with high top tables and chairs in addition to a long bar area. There were flat screen TVs mounted on the walls, so checking out the latest sporting events was not an issue. We got our bingo cards and dabblers and looked over the menu to order. There were two menus; the brunch menu and the traditional CVP menu. We got something from both: the CVP wings (mild), with tater tots from the traditional menu and paired it with the bottomless brunch drink package, which included your choice of house Bloody Mary, mimosa, screwdriver or Natural Light draft beer (you have to stick with one choice). The servers were pleasant and we placed our orders at the bar. The food arrived in about 30 minutes, but was warm, not as hot as I wanted. The wings were cooked well with a mild buffalo sauce and the tater tots came in a small metal bucket; enough for up to 4 people. They were fresh and not greasy, just wished they were hotter. For the bottomless brunch drink package, I chose the screwdriver and a pleasant server came over to our table and put a wristband on me so that I could walk up to the bar for refills. The vodka was well vodka, but I didn't have a headache the next day, so that was good! The upstairs area seems to be an event space. The downstairs area was the main bar with tables as well. All in all, CVP was ok for the event I attended and may visit again in the future.

I came to Charles Village Pub twice for trivia finals in March & September 2023. Unfortunately, I was from the businesses in the southside division of trivia (relative to Baltimore), which is various ones in Anne Arundel & Howard County. It's unfortunate it was always here or on the northside of town. The current finals location is even a bit further from my AA County home than here, but I was happy that they at least changed so that Charles Pub didn't get a bunch of business. The place has a somewhat small upstairs area and especially small for 20 finalist trivia teams of 4+ people. Both times I did eat lunch here. Wings were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. But it's very slow to get service. One of the people in my party was getting very upset about water refill or something as the staff kept forgetting to check on him. Also, the bill couldn't be split, and that was also chaotic. That was on the 1st visit. 2nd visit was even a bit worse. We were squeezed in the bar area. One of us had to stand as there wasn't enough room for all 5 of us basically the last to get there although ultimately there was some shifting and everyone got to sit, but it shouldn't have been this overcrowded to begin with. I think I was able to pay individually this time as we were individuals at the bar as opposed to a table, but I noticed this extra charge on top of tax, like some inflation fee on top of what is posted on the menu for the price roughly a buck or two more. I don't like how this business runs this. Just raise the menu price; I don't like the hidden fee. If the trivia was coming back here for finals, I would make sure to eat an early lunch beforehand and not give Charles Pub a dime. Only positive was the pretty good wings; why it doesn't get the dreaded 1-star.
