I am absolutely in love with Crafted and my barber Autumn! Even upon first entrance, I felt welcomed and genuinely friendly vibes from the receptionists, assistants, and stylists. I have been going through some health issues, and will be losing my hair very soon, so I wanted to rock something drastic and funky while I have hair to rock! First, I decided on an undercut and an asymmetrical long haircut to start. While I was getting my hair washed, the lovely assistant gave me an AMAZING head massage and reiki on my knee (I was on crutches after surgery) just out of the goodness of her heart! I had a picture of the design I wanted and Autumn executed it beautifully with different lengths and a straight edge razor. She was fun and engaging, making conversation and even gave me pointers on low maintenance upkeep hacks, and flat iron recommendations! I mentioned that I wanted to come back for color a few weeks later, and she booked out an entire day for me the next week! I was in the chair from 10am until 6:30 pm, and honestly, it was so much fun! I went from my natural dirty blond, to platinum, to 3 shade of vibrant green in one day. Autumn had done her research and come prepared with some pictures of different coloring styles, and we ended up combining them, with a dark green at the roots fading into a lime green in the middle, and yellow at the tips. She creatively weaved all the colors in and texturized them to make them flow in a subtly beautiful way. Above and beyond the incredible work she did, I was honored to get to know her throughout the day. We both opened up about family and friends and by the end of the day I felt like I had made a new friend, which I think is the best part of this whole experience. Throughout the day, many of the other coworkers hung out near us and we chatted and laughed, making me feel welcomed and appreciated. I feel like I have new support system in Autumn and the team at Crafted. I was and still am so appreciative and overwhelmed with Autumn's caring nature and dedication to help me achieve my version of my ideal self during a trying time. She has helped me take the positivity and strength that I feel inside, and turned it into a creative expression that the rest of the world can see, and I am forever thankful for that. During one of our long conversations throughout the day, Autumn told me that what fulfills her workday is not a day filled with as many clients as possible, but a day in which she can dedicate her time and artistry to a haircut that she can be proud of at the end of the day. I love getting my hair cut with Randi at Crafted! Randi has been cutting my hair for 6 years now! and I wont let anyone else touch it. I even drive all the way from DC these days to see her. My hair is pretty thick and kinda wavy ...sometimes curly....it has a mind of its own. Randi gets it! I'm never nervous when I go see her, she cuts the most amazing layers into my hair so it has great body and shape. I get complements all the time on my hair, and its only because of Randi. Over the years as I've tried different styles she has been a wealth of knowledge. We did a keratin straightening treatment a few years ago which was very successful, and recently we dyed my hair dark brown/purple (my hair is naturally dark brown but I just wanted a purple shine....she did it perfectly). I have recommended Randi to so many of my friends. Sometimes I show up early or overlap with another customer and she lets me hang out while she finishes up. As well as giving me top tier consults, I often get to hear her advice to other customers and it is always focused on keeping hair healthy and long term plans for style :) I once went in and told Randi I wanted to chop all of my hair off...maybe...and asked what she thought. She reminded me of my long term goal of having long hair, and also talked with me about my hair thickness and which short styles would work. We decided to think about it for a few weeks until the next cut, and I'm so thankful she gave me this consult in particular! Listen up, y'all. If you are a woman with curly hair - and I'm talking black or mixed girl 3 a/b/c 4a type hair - THIS SALON WILL TREAT YOUR HAIR RIGHT. This is the first salon I have been to in my lifetime that has been able to cut my hair without straightening it or without having to take a "breather" because their arms are tired. I was nervous going in because of so many terrible experiences with salons, but I did the big chop a year ago and needed it shaped (and urgently, and my own bathroom trims weren't cutting it anymore). Scheduled the appointment online easily; ended up having to call and reschedule same day but they were flexible and friendly. Rachel started by lopping off some clearly uneven parts, then washed and conditioned before getting into the nitty gritty. She skillfully cut my curls in a way that saved length but helped my hair curl up correctly from the root to tip, and my hair has **never** looked so healthy and vibrant while natural. It is no exaggeration when I say that as long as I am in Baltimore or the surrounding areas, I will not go to another hair salon for a cut. Counting down the months until I can visit again. Just a word of advice, to be helpful to both you and the business: if you have the aforementioned hair types, make sure you leave a note in the online appointment form and specify that it is a long hair curly cut, even if your hair doesn't pass your shoulders while curly. It will help them book you for the correct amount of time. My haircut, for reference, took about an hour and 15 minutes and cost $65. Tips are cash only. read more

Deva Cut with Anjelica: My experience with Anjelica was great! The more information you can provide your stylist with the better! (Past, present and future wants). Go in with reasonable expectations and if you have a picture make sure it's similar to your curl type or you will be disappointed it won't look the same. My hair was previously cut by Nicole (which I loved) but it was a style meant for me to have straight so it wasn't the most flattering on my natural curls that I've decided to start to embrace. I wanted very minimal change in the length and more volume. She suggested evening out out ends and adding in some layers. I was excited for some short sassy rogue curls on the top of my head! She took her time, really talked to me the whole appointment and was very thorough every step of the way. Just after the dry cut it looked so much better and less weighed down! Not much taken off but a vast improvement. I also needed help with my products (as a past Deva product purchaser) I knew something wasn't right with the combination of products I was using. Anjelica pointed me in the right direction and it made such a change to my hair! I'm excited to see how my curls change and grow over time now that I'm using less heat! On a side note... Crafted is one of those places that you can walk into and just feel like you're best friends with everyone. Their front desk receptionist is just the sweetest thing ever! read more

Oh. Hell. No. My stylist Autumn is apparently top of the line over there at Crafted, because she whispered to the receptionist to charge me $50 when the online rate is $25+. ....Okay. And honestly that wouldn't even be that bad if I didn't just receive the WORST F****** HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. Not only did I have to wait for my appointment and a bunch of other logistical nonsense, but my stylist was absorbed talking to other people and I actually heard her gasp when she made a mistake. Autumn gave me a Great-Clips style, bottom-of-the-barrel quality, hair butchery. wow. Literally I now have a bald spot cut into my hair, as well as layers that look like my 5yo niece was responsible. OH! And the clippers scraped this shit out of my neck?! Wtf kind of place is this? I ask for the cut to hit at my jawline. Hits at my cheekbone. ..I ask for ability to tuck behind the ears on both sides. Bish please it's nowhere near tuckable. There was even a picture involved for reference. We agreed, "as it appears." ??? I don't know where it all went wrong but damn. This is going to take months to grow out. I appreciated her efforts to blowdry the fukkkkk out of my hair in efforts to make it look decent, but in the end the chop job refused to blend. I don't know what this salon is trying to do but for all of its glamorous online pictures and edgy stylists... it's a fucking crap place to get your hair cut. read more

The first time I came to Crafted, my stylist talked me out of donating my hair, and instead gave a very expensive trim. About a year and a half later, I wanted to give Crafted another go and saw Anjelica had joined the team. I was excited to see her because she seemed to be a pioneer of bringing DevaCut to Crafted - a product/technique I had been interested in for quite some time. Anjelica was wonderful. She made me feel welcomed and confident that I had made the right decision. She listened to what I wanted (to donate and cheer up my curls). While she was cutting my hair, she regularly checked in about my preferences in shape and length. Anjelica talked with me about different DevaCurl products and explained the products she was using to style my hair (and how to style my hair on my own). I love learning about products and how to use them, so I appreciated her answering my questions and offering her suggestions. Anjelica has also been responsive on social media - when I have a question about a product or something, she is happy to offer a mindful response! When I left the salon, all I could think was how joyful it felt to finally find ~my~ stylist. After living in the area for 5 years, Anjelica is a breath of fresh air and I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon. read more

I have extremely curly hair and have had several bad haircuts during my life and am always anxious about switching hair dressers (The past 14 years I have had a total of 2 hair dressers, I used to travel home from college just for hair cuts!). Rachel came recommended by both google & an acquaintance, so I decided to try out the salon (which she owns). The cut is amazing, no awful triangle (those with curly hair know what I am talking about). Rachel has curly hair similar to mine so I felt very secure in her ability to give me a good cut. I ended up spending most of the day with her assistant, Dawn, who was lovely. I ended up a color more extreme that I had anticipated, but I think part of this was a failure on my part to explain what I meant by "I want to be more blonde" That being said she took me from some average honey colored highlights to almost a platinum blonde in one sitting that I have gotten used to and now love. She was picky about the evenness and tone of the color. She did a protein fill before putting anything onto my hair and then gave me extensive information on how to care for it now that it had been so processed and it still looks healthy and amazing! I literally created a Yelp account just to leave this review. I have long, curly hair that has a life of its own and I had never gone to real salon (one or two attempts at Hair Cuttery when I was younger, gave up and begged my mom to give me trims). My hair was becoming unmanageable and I had just moved to Baltimore and something had to be done. After some Yelp stalking, I read about Crafted and after some research and talking to the very nice receptionist, booked an appointment with Danny Elder. I was pretty nervous but I'm so glad I went here. My hair feels healthier, looks great, and is so manageable, in a way it hasn't been for literally years. Danny has a great understanding of what to do with curly hair and was very careful to maintain length. I also really appreciated his advice about how to style and keep my hair looking great. Also, they're really, really cool about not pushing products. Also, also, bonus comic book chat while he was cutting my locks. All-in-all, a really great experience, well worth the price. I literally was super excited about washing and styling my hair for days afterwards, because it was so much freaking easier. About a month later, I'm still delighted with my updated look. This was my second time getting my hair cut and Crafted and I've loved the experience both times! I've always had super long thick hair and I've never been happy when I've gotten hair cuts, so I stopped going to salons and just trimmed it myself at home. When I found crafted it seemed like they were experts in the kind of cuts I liked and they proved that right at my first appointment! It was the first time I'd truly LOVED a hair cut! It was the perfect 70s shag and made me feel like I had gone back in time. The shop is so cool, and all of the employees are super friendly and welcoming. The owner Shelly is THE BEST and so so sweet! Andi is the hairdresser who cuts my hair and she is so fun to chat with, and always makes me look cool haha. I will never go anywhere else again! I have been going to Randi for 5 years now. She has been so helpful this whole time! I am very protective of my hair and easily upset if it looks bad. But she has taken great care of me. She styles it the way you want it styled, not what is "typical" and I love that. I always embrace my natural curls and a lot of stylists try to do a blow out or show me how great it could look straight. I love that she not only dries it curly so I can see what it will look like every day, but also gives me tips on how to maintain it. When I wanted to try something daring and dyed my hair for the first time she thoroughly explained what would happen and what I should expect before we did anything. Even when the results weren't quite what I wanted (the dye faded faster than I expected since I wash my hair frequently) all I had to do was send a quick message and she replied with options to address the issue and listed the pros and cons for each option. Immediately upon entering Crafted, I felt welcome. The receptionist was extremely friendly and got me seated with no problem, even though I was pretty early for my appointment. Dawn McKinney was my stylist, and she is a dream. I used the online scheduler and chose balayage without being really sure exactly what I wanted. Dawn looked at my reference pictures and gave me a quick consultation, and worked with me to help me figure out exactly what I was hoping for. She was very flexible and knowledgeable, explaining the coloring process and different services they provide. I couldn't be happier with the result! Dawn was super fun and gave me an amazing experience. It was great to work with someone who was more excited about my hair than I was! If you have fine hair with a lot of split ends, I definitely would recommend the split end treatment they provide. I can't recommend this place highly enough! It had been approx. 3 years from my last haircut in a salon, and my thick, curly hair was down to my mid-back. I was ready for a big change! I called Crafted and Shelly happened to have an opening with Kadijah that same day. Even though I was totally freaked out to cut my hair (on the inside... brave on the outside!), Kadijah made the whole experience super enjoyable. Her skills and styling went above and beyond what I was expecting (I was expecting a great haircut, but I feel like she read my style and really listened to what I wanted SO perfectly), and she completely captured the 70s rocker babe vibe that I wanted. The studio itself is really comfortable and has great atmosphere, and all the stylists & Shelly are sweet! The cherry on top was how affordable the cut itself was. Crafted was my first hair colouring experience in Baltimore and if I ever go to another place (which I doubt I would because the place was AMAZING), they would have very high standards to live upto, I usually never write reviews, but Danny did such a great job with my fair that I absolutely had to spread the word about the place. I had a vague idea about what I wanted and let Danny take over. He got the colour to be exactly what I was looking for and did a FANTASTIC job. In addition, he gave me a simple quick haircut that made the whole thing look even better. He was such a cool and friendly guy, fun to talk to. In general, the people that worked there were all cheerful and upbeat and created a very warm atmosphere. His wife Katie was also great, very friendly and had really cool hair! I am definitely going back to Crafted and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place, it is 100% worth the money! read more

I started going to Crafted because I wanted variety and to have fun with hair styling since I recently decided to go with short hair after years of keeping it long. The first stylist I booked was Nicole Leadbeater. I enjoyed her company as she cut my hair and I ended up with a great short do! I spent time in other Crafted stylist's chairs over the past couple of years, but I keep going back for Nicole. I love her technique and she makes going short super easy and looking good! I am treated like a welcome client whether I go for a bang trim or to get a funky short cut. The front desk staff are very helpful getting me my desired appointments even when I call at the last minute. The salon is really well thought out to fit many stylists and clients and I am amazed at how it bustles with people everywhere while maintaining great flow and cool atmosphere. Amazing is an understatement! My hair was in need of some TLC. I came across Nicole's instagram and just instantly fell in love with her work. Its hard to find a stylist who can master that edgy look that you have always desired. I decided to make an appointment after I talked myself into cutting my hair into a long pixie. Nicole was fantastic! She listened to what I wanted but also gave me her thoughts on what would fit me best. I was super nervous cutting my hair short but I wanted something easy to maintain with 2 small kids and Nicole nailed it. I am so happy with my hair I feel like a brand new woman. At first I walked in at 10:30am looking for a hair cut. They had appointments already (they only have a couple of stylists on Tuesday so walk-ins are more difficult) so they told me they could make an appointment for the afternoon, which I did. When I came back for my appointment, I saw Nicole. She's really good.I have long curly hair and wanted to get it cut and straightened. I hadn't had a cut in 2 years and I was nervous about the blow out process from past experiences. But Nicole was excellent at it. She did it quick and made it look easy. And when her next appointment came she didn't rush her work at all. She still took her time with my hair to make sure it was perfect. She also guarantees her work if you're not happy with it. Absolutely amazing salon. Baylee was fantastic, did an excellent job on my cut, and was extremely personable. The atmosphere of the salon itself is so comforting, which in my case when making a big chop and going short for the first time, is extremely important. Prior to my actual appointment the staff was so courteous and helpful. I reached out them them by email and received a response as soon as they opened that same day. I stated that I was a new customer and was looking for a stylist who could help me with a new and specific cut. I sent them some photos and described my hair type. The communication was so impressive. They hooked me up with Baylee and she could not have been more perfect for the job. I am a busy mom and professional without a lot of time to get to a salon so despite living in Baltimore for the past few years I have not found a hair "home." That is until I walked in to Crafted. I immediately fell in love with the warm and inviting atmosphere of the salon. It really does feel like one big family. I've been a Crafted Hair client since Rachael opened the salon, and before that she cut my hair for years in her home studio. I have long, wavy hair, and finding a stylist who knows how to layer and texture it properly is a challenge. Not only is Rachael a master of her craft, she has also hired and trained all of her staff members accordingly. I've worked with several stylists at the studio and have always been happy with their skills in cutting and styling wavy hair.
