Hushpuppies. This litter was only 6 puppies. Despite the closeup here, they were small. Tasty, but not enough of them.

I 've found that I am an eternal optimist. When I see a bad review for a restaurant, I always wonder if the reviews might have been done a long time ago, and that things might be better now. Instead, it seems that the mediocre reviews are about right. But, it didn't start this way. My wife got clam chowder to start, and as plain as it looked, it was very good. Not much in the way of clam in the clam chowder, but the taste was good. I got the gumbo. There's no way that you'll close your eyes and think that you are in New Orleans when you eat this. But, it's good. It's hearty, with andouille sausage providing a smoky character. I had high hopes for the main course after a start like this. I can't complain about false advertising when it comes to the crabcake Poboy. The sandwich consists of a bun with lettuce and tomato, and a crabcake patty that's been cut in half and spread out across the bun. The crabcake is the kind that I unfortunately find most of the time when I go to seafood restaurants: mostly breading, with no detectable crab in it. And, the seasoning is bland. The remoulade they serve with it is OK, but probably closer to a slightly elevated mayo than anything else. I was genuinely excited when I saw that you could get hush puppies instead of fries. The hush puppies were good, to be honest. But, there were only six of them. And, these puppies were taken from their mama too soon. They were about the size of a medium gumball. My wife's shrimp Poboy, at least, had shrimp that you could detect. The shrimp was fried, and not much seasoning was put on the crispy exterior. As a big contrast to the tiny amount of hush puppies, that I got, there was a gargantuan mountain of fries next to her sandwich. The fries, in keeping with the overall theme here, were bland. The service was good, although it got off to a rough start because we got there at the beginning of the workday. Once we managed to track down the server, the service was good. I don't understand how this place can stay open with mediocre food and high prices. What we paid for our food wasn't terrible, but the food nearly was. This occupies the space previously occupied by Carrabba's, which was a very good Italian restaurant. Hopefully, the next iteration of the space will be better than what's there now.

I should've known not to order food from a place called crafty .. Turns out they are very crafty rude and have sub par food . Place an Uber eats order took over 2 hours my order was missing nthe shrimp in the combo platter . Contact crafty was told that they can't deduct the amount from the order no apology no am sorry . She ask " when are you going to come pick up.the shrimp " The food was 4 out of 10 potatoes was hard the corn was ok .. I had the combo sauce too much oil and salt so it masks the other flavours . The crab didn't have that crackling sound when u break it hmmm not sure why hopefully it's not imitation crab . Hopefully there better seafood places in Detroit that I can try any recommendations ?

We decided to try the Crafty Crab after driving by the restaurant numerous times. We were also interested in seeing how it was considering all the negative reviews. Well, it's average at best. The restaurant itself is very nice and looks to be recently renovated, the only issue is everything else is awful. Most of the plates had big chips on the corners, the flatware was bend and screwed, and the glasses were dated and faded. From a business perspective I can't imagine it was a good decision. They also have a 10' TV in the middle of the restaurant playing a loop of fish on YouTube. Really makes you question the person's logic when that does literally nothing to enhance the experience yet there are so many broken plates and flatware. With the food, it was okay. The crab wasn't fresh but it was bad yet. I feel like it was the last batch before a new shipment came in. Same goes with the potatoes in the boil. The best part of the entire boil was the corn. The mozzarella sticks were standard frozen ones, nothing special. The salad was okay, a little weird with the raisins but to each their own. Overall if you're looking for an average to below average seafood boil here's your place. We probably won't be back considering we make better crab at home, I hope the next restaurant that fills in this space is better.

Shrimp and snow crab boil so tasty!

The crab boil was great, we got the boom! It was delicious. Jam packed with flavor, food came out quick, we got 1 lb shrimp and 1 lb snow crab and it was the perfect amount for my husband and I. Service was great, no complaints. Would totally come back!

    Plates were all chipped'

Do not waste your money- terrible food. I ordered the shrimp po-boy and he ordered the shrimp basket. The po-boy had 4 pieces of shrimp on it and all you tasted was the sauce and the lettuce, the coleslaw tasted freezer burnt. The shrimp basket came with onion rings that were not cooked all the way. None of the food was "fresh" all was previously frozen and dumped in a deep fryer. The plates were chipped, to give you the feeling that sharks bit into them?? We had to go out to eat after leaving there! This place won't be in business long at all, it would be a great place to start a seafood restaurant!

First, the front house staff were great. Kind, cheerful and friendly. Silverware was sticky, no bread or crackers on the table. Ridiculous prices on a very limited menu. The snow crab dinner consisted of 2 tiny, mushy new potatoes, 1/2 half soggy corn on the cob, and super skinny crab legs. We ordered garlic butter and we got cajun spices. It was served first and 7 min later the rest of the food came out. We were given a $10 off coupon when we talked to the server about the crab and the whole dinner was removed from our bill. So, like I said, the front house staff were wonderful, helpful and caring. It is a shame that they have to bring such crappy food to the table.

Two points that knocked down the score bar service was tooooo slow. I was going to have a second beer and by the time waitress came to apologize about long delay and frustration with bar service, I told her to cancel it. Second, the waitress had to be reminded to bring drink refills after we asked for them. She apologized and got them right away. But, it added to our frustration of delays. My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

During that call, the hostess assured us that we would not be charged the $50 cancellation charge. As it turned out, we were able to come in that same evening and dined at the restaurant, first enjoying drinks in front of the fireplace then being serviced by our favorite waiter, Paul. Despite this, a $300 cancellation fee was later charged to our card. When I contacted the restaurant to resolve the issue, the matter was escalated to management. The response focused solely on reiterating the OpenTable cancellation policy, without addressing the specific circumstances: we called in advance, were told we would not be charged, and ultimately honored the reservation by dining that evening. We have also stayed at the hotel and previously rented the private dining room, so this was not a one-time visit. That history made the interaction particularly disappointing. Policies are important, but so is discretion and guest communication. In this instance, the service experience did not reflect the level of hospitality one would expect. I hope this feedback encourages a review of how guest concerns are handled moving forward.
