It's a very similar concept except you don't get your seafood in a big tin can.... you get it steamed in a huge bag that you open like a present. We came here one day for my husband's birthday since he loves places like this. We didn't make reservations and even though there was a line to get in, it moved pretty well. Once seated, you're given a very simple menu that offers crabs, shrimps, lobsters etc that you can mix and match with different spices. Pricing isn't to crazy because you'll honestly be so stuffed. For a half and half portion of shrimp and crab it's about 40$. Your meal comes with potatoes and corn inside the bag as well. I'm not a huge crab fan because I don't have the patience and skills to eat it But I tried my best and it was super flavorful. I really enjoyed the potatoes tho...I might've snagged a few off of hubby's plate while he wasn't looking. They have frozen cocktails which were really nice. Had a terrible experience today. Paid 105 dollars for a boil that was supposed to have a pound of king crab drive 30 minutes home to find a tiny piece of king crab that weighs .4 pounds. I call the restaurant and ask them if another day I can come back and get the missing crab. They tell me that I need to drive back within 24 hours with all the food uneaten and they will give me a new meal. Mind you this is our Christmas Eve dinner and tomorrow is Christmas. The food is really good but it gets very busy. We were told 20 but ended up waiting 45 minutes for a table. We always get the small and large combo in boom sauce with the oyster basket. For a place with no option for reservations, I got very lucky to make it in prior to the rush. We went with Cajun seasoning and medium heat (definitely my favorite of the four). This seafood boil packs in the punch and doesn't leave you hungry as the seafood also comes with corn + potatoes and an option to add sausage/boiled egg (we decided to say no to the add-ons). Alongside the seafood boil we also ordered some beers + a dozen raw oysters. For the two of and how much we ate we were amazed to have spent only a little under $75 for everything. I've been on the search for good crab legs in South Florida for a long time. More specifically, a good, well seasoned and well proportioned crab boil/tray for a reasonable price. After patronizing Crafty Crab, I have nothing further to look for. This crab spot is worth the 45 minute commute to the Lauderhill area. Upon arriving we could see that there where patrons gathered both inside and outside waiting on a table. However, this did not deter us from this oh so good seafood. This was my second visit and my boyfriends first. We were informed by the pleasant hostesses that there was a 20 minute wait. We were seated sooner than expected and browsed the menu options while we waited for our waters. From the cocktail menu I ordered a blue Hawaiian and my boyfriend ordered a rum runner. Both delicious & heavy on the alcohol (like we like lol). After browsing the vast menu options we decided to indulge in a seafood platter (feeds 2). There is a three step process to creating your seafood boil. Step 1 includes picking your catch. Step 2 is selecting your seasoning. Step 3 tasks you to pick your spice level. The seafood platter includes crab legs, shrimp (whole or headless), mussels, crawfish, corn, potatoes, & sausage. We choose "The Boom" seasoning which is a mix of all the seasonings they offer & medium heat. With too long of a wait, our seafood platter came served piping hot in a bag to our table. We were presented with bibs, gloves, & napkins & we went to work. We had more food than we both could finish. The only suggestion I have is a revamp of the appetizer options & adding soups to the menu, a lobster bisque or clam chowder would have hit the spot that night. The decor of the place was nice and the place is really spacious. The price here was much less than my regular spot; HOWEVER, this place gives you a little bit of everything, but the amount is less in each area. But you are able to try all seafood. I was given two corns and potatoes; crawfish, snow crabs, shrimp clams and mussels for about $38. The shrimp was kinda to big for me, I wish they were smaller for this type of style food, but many people love big shrimps So my view is kinda subjective.. The corn was really good. I could tell their corn was fresh corn and not frozen. That was a plus for me. The food was good, a bit salty, but I am highly sensitive with salt. The service was very good. I like that they had the paper towels on the table. I did not like the food coming out in the steam bag and a thin pan. I would rather it came out in a deep bowl where I can move around my food and dip it in the bowl as mush as I like. I had to move around the seafood to get the piece I wanted because it was hidden somewhere in the bag. Remind you, I only have these dislikes because i eat it often at another place and I'm used to it that way. If I lived in this area, this would also be my go to place. We started with a snow crabs and shrimp combo with the "boom" sauce which is a combination of different sauces. It's garlicky, peppery, lemony and spicy. In addition to red potatoes and corn it came with three crabs (1lb) and seven of the head on shrimp (.5lb) which we asked for instead of the headless. The snow crab was good but I felt that the value wasn't great. The shrimps were very good but I think next time I'd get the headless as apparently there is no other difference in the shrimp they use. The inside is pretty large with a second level area for dining. They do have a bar area with about 10 seats and a few high top tables for dining. The drinks were okay I tried both the blue lemonade margarita and the strawberry margarita. The options for drinks are pretty wide since it's a fully stocked bar. The food options were pretty good. I selected the snow crab legs and 6 piece wings. The seasoning is optional to ones taste. I selected the boom season which is 3 different spices mixed together. Our meal can with each seafood bags having corn and a potato added for a full seafood boil feel. I enjoyed the food and my waitress Kelly was very good as well. I love trying new Cajun boil restaurants because I love the flavors they offer and I am also a big fan of seafood. The restaurant is clean and well staffed. They only take reservations if your party is greater than 8 people. It was very busy and all the benches outside were full of guests waited to be seated. Our wait was 40 min. We ordered a dozen raw oysters (4/10), the boil platter (5/10), a dungeonous crab boil (2/10), french fries (10/10), coleslaw (6/10), and hush puppies (6/10). The raw oysters. I frequently eat oysters at all types of restaurants, and the oysters here were big, dense in color, and did not taste fresh. It wasn't to the point where I could not eat them, but I did not enjoy them. The boils. The platter was okay. The best items in the platter was definitely the shrimp, snow crab and the corn. The potatoes were mushy, the crawfish were not fresh (they're out of season, probably frozen). I do not like the sauce, I prefer more garlic and overall did not enjoy flavor. Stay away from the dungeonous crab. It did not taste fresh, extremely salty, and was very expensive for lack of quality. The sides were good and the fresh fries were probably my favorite thing about this place. Due to the long wait, no ability to make a reservation, lack of fresh seafood, and not enjoying the flavors of the boil, I do not recommend and will not be returning. read more

This place has been growing on me so I've upgraded it to a 4. Like Joe's Crab Shack that occupied the space before it, Crafty Crab is your typical "stuff on the walls" TGI McFunster's atmosphere seafood chain-style place. It even has a red Hummer sporting a fiberglass great white shark on the roof smack in the middle of the cavernous dining room that seats at least 150. Like other local crab places that have adopted the "pick your sauce" trend, you pick your seafood and they proceed to steam it in a plastic bag and douse it with buttery/oily sauce mixed with spices. Although the place has a Louisiana theme I do not find the food particularly creole or Cajun. They have gumbo on the menu. Didn't try it yet. We first came for dinner at around 6 PM on a Wednesday. I had two shots of the house white tequila for $3 each for happy hour, they come in big shot glasses but did not feel like full jigger 1.5oz shots to me due to the thick glass. Since we've been back we have also had their $7 Long Island Iced Tea which advertises itself has having five (5) shots of alcohol in it. It does and it almost requires me to carry my wife out of the building. So beware. The place wasn't busy when we first arrived but by the time we left it was pretty packed. The seafood boil came with two snow crab clusters, two potatoes and a 1/2 ear of corn. I chose the "Boom" seasoning which consists of Crafty Cajun, Buttery Garlic and Lemon Pepper! Oh my God, talk about delicious. My food was seasoned to perfection. I also ordered a specialty drink called the "Blue Hawaiian". It had just the right amount of liquor. Not to strong and not weak.
