Alexander's consistently puts out good food, good service, and a good vibe. Our server was 'Faith' and she was stellar! One of us got there way too early (like 10 minutes before everyone else) but even camping in her section with just a cocktail she never made us feel uncomfortable or awkward about it. One of us had special requests for her meal, no problem. One of us rolled in 5 minutes AFTER everyone else had arrived and ordered their drinks already, again... no problem. Faith is a superstar. We came to J. Alexander's on the first night of our conference, and our team decided to grab dinner here. It ended up being a really good choice! We walked in without a reservation, and they were able to accommodate us. It definitely got busy as the evening went on, but the service remained great throughout our meal. Most of us ordered the steak and fries, while a few swapped the fries for baked potatoes. The steaks were cooked well, the fries were amazing, and overall the food was VERY good. We also ordered the artichokes to share. I'm not usually an artichoke fan, but I tried them and was pleasantly surprised! And the dessert... SO GOOD. We had the white chocolate cheesecake, and it was easily one of the highlights. Their whipped cream is made in-house, and you can definitely tell. We also had drinks with dinner and really enjoyed those as well. My only two small critiques were the atmosphere. There was a slight lingering smell inside--not necessarily moldy, but possibly from the humidity and the carpet. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of carpet in restaurants for that reason. We also had one persistent fly that kept making its way around our table and food, which was a little annoying. That said, the restaurant itself appeared clean. One thing I would LOVE to see them add is fresh bread! This just feels like the kind of restaurant that should bring out a basket of warm, fresh bread while you're waiting for your meal. After reading many of your reviews, I knew I had to have the crab cakes ( huge lumps of crabmeat, very little filler with a silky remoulade), NYO mac and cheese ( creamy, cheesy on the inside, crunchy, toasty on top...if you are a mac and cheese fan, don't miss it!) and a side of lemon parmesan steamed broccoli just the way I like it...al dente, not mushy! Yelp did its thing with this gem. I was out of town looking for a steak dinner and Yelp led me here. Let me tell you this place is amazing. There were no reservations, it was a Saturday night and it was crowded. I added my name to the list (40 minute wait) I eyed the bar and about 20 minutes later a couple got up - so we sat down and decided to have dinner there (which looks like many people did) the bartenders were extremely friendly and handled the full bar of dinner patrons amazingly. Came in last night with a friend and we ate dinner at the bar. I can't say enough good things! First, Frankie, our bartender was phenomenal. He made the absolute best martinis. We ordered the spinach queso, and it was delicious. It is quite a large serving, so be ready to share. We split the fillet and baked potato, and it was plenty of food for the two of us. The steak tasted wood fire grilled and it was wonderful. The potato was so large that even with sharing there was quite a bit left over. I was here for New Year's Eve. The service was excellent. We had a private booth in the back of the restaurant, which was nice. It was private enough yet we could still see the hustle and bustle going on. The calamari appetizer was a nice start. It is made in a house and not pre-frozen out of a bag. They marinate it to tenderize the calamari first. I found it to be good but too soft for me. It was almost mushy underneath and crispy coating. I had the prime rib with loaded, baked potato as an entrée. The prime rib shined! This is one of their main features on their menu. The loaded baked potato was humongous. It could be a meal by itself. I only ate about half of it next time I would probably order asparagus or other vegetables as a side. Between these options it makes it almost impossible to choose what to order but that's not necessarily a bad problem to have! Their calamari is incredible, as well. Definitely a great way to start your meal. The shoestring fries are crispy, loaded with flavor & served in massive portions. My personal favorite side is the "NYO Mac & cheese" though. It's baked to order & can't be forgotten about. I usually wouldn't go this far but if you like Mac & cheese you NEED to order it, no questions asked. You can really taste the variety of different cheeses they put into it. It's creamy, rich, has a beautifully baked top layer of cheese & is just all around perfect. The bartenders serve some great beverages that taste amazing. You definitely get your moneys worth. The servers are always friendly & do a great job at making sure your business feels appreciated.
