Scam artist - He charges $1,700 to change a garage spring. Be aware - taking advantage of people. The cockroach of the society.

We had an older metal garage door with a panel that had bent, causing the door to jerk open and…read moreclosed. We figured it would stop working completely before long, so we contacted a garage door company we'd used previously to see if they could repair it. They looked at the panel and said it was too old to replace, and that the door itself was in bad shape. They strongly recommended a new door and motor (they said the motor had to be replaced because of a new law passed in 2018, even though ours was from 2015). The guys seemed nice enough, so I believed them. But I wanted a second quote. ABC Garage Door came out next. I didn't mention anything about the first company. Jaime, the owner, looked at the situation and said I didn't need a new door, just the one panel reinforced. I asked, "No new door?" He said, "Well, if you want a new door I can get you one, but you don't need one." He came back the next day and reinforced the panel in 30 minutes. It runs perfectly now, no more clunking. Oh, and the first company followed up with a quote for a new door, still steel. The price? $16,500!!!

Our garage door was broken so we called them out. We told them we could only be home until 4pm and they gave us the window of 2-4pm. We made sure we were home during that time. Unfortunately, it was for no reason because nobody showed up or called. We called them and they said they would come tight then and only take a minute to give an estimate for the work. Well no estimate was provided and they just started the work without any communication. When I heard drilling I asked if they were going to provide an estimate or what? And the workers said, ya, it's almost done, it's $450. No approval, no paperwork, nothing. I was late to my appointment and they said we could leave them locked in the garage, but as we were going to leave they kept having to go through the house to get things from their truck. I didn't want to leave them locked in the hot garage but we really had to leave. The whole situation was so incredibly frustrating. Then the office girl called me to collect payment and made it 100 times worse. I was trying to explain to her that the process was really stressful and she said, "ok so then I'll just have them go back and undo everything they did" .... Are you serious? What kind of customer service is that? What a terrible representation for their business. Had she said, "I understand how that was frustrating. We should have come when we said we were/communicated/provided an estimate/explained what we were even doing/honestly anything? It would have been different. Things happen, I get that, but have accountability and communication. It's very very basic customer service. We paid, we're done with them, but we will never use this company again.

A terrible experience with Next Door Garage Door Repair. I am 84 years old, protected by certain…read moreconsumer rights and laws, including those related to elder financial abuse. I've been scammed. I called Next Door's Garage Repair's Eric for a new remote for my Genie Pro opener, having used his services in late 2024 for a garage door spring installation. He quoted $50 for a new remote. When he arrived, I presented him with the Genie remote that no longer worked. Although there was no battery in the remote, he said that he couldn't program it as the 6 device program limit for the Genie Pro was reached, and no further programming could be done. And that I therefore needed a new garage door opener. I later learned that this was a lie. He showed me on his iPad two LiftMaster openers, representing that the prices shown were retail, but if I purchased one that day, a 10% discount would apply. I elected the one for $1,950, and after the discount and added $180 installation fee and taxes, the total was $2,100, which I paid. I later learned that Eric lied to me about the maxing out of the Genie Pro program number limit, as both Genie and other reputable garage door opener installers advised that a further program would simply erase the earliest one, and that an additional programmable remote could easily be done. I also later learned that the retail price of the LiftMaster runs between $280 and $400, not $1,950, and the retail total including installation and the arm/bar/rod runs roughly $600 to $700, or less than 1/3 of what he charged me. Instead of $50. I've never knowingly been scammed or become the victim of a fraud. I am also reporting this to the State Contractors License Board and those entities responsible for enforcing and regulating elderly abuse laws.
