Tom Ohearn (owner & only employee) of Cranberry Real Estate is the most unprofessional, unethical, rude and incompetent real estate agent I have ever encountered. I was very patient with him because he is in his late 70's and it is clear his memory is failing, but this agent is impossible to work with. You tell him something and then he forgets and then he lies to cover up the fact he forgot and then he blames and round and round you go. It is a complete nightmare. My final gripe is that I was left with the impression that he overprices homes to get the listing - and if yours is his only one, he keeps it overpriced, just so he can pretend to be busy. I was going to say that I hope he retires before he damages his reputation, but based on other reviews here it seems he has already done that. Oh and if you make the mistake of relying on the Zillow reviews as I did, just know that Tom OHearn could have written those reviews about himself. Above review was dead-on accurate with my dealings with the owner. Rude, unprofessional, and deceptive. We paid good money to rent a place from him. Couldn't be bothered to do rental agreement - I had to insist on it. What real estate professional thinks its not necessary? should have been the first clue. My parents rented a cottage posted by Cranberry Real Estate near South Village Beach in West Dennis this Summer for two weeks for a family vacation. There were no photos posted online but it was a reasonable price and the assumption was made that it would be a comfy, small beach house as they were renting the property through a realtor who supposedly has a good reputation. They rented the cottage back in the Winter and had been planning and very excited for this trip. They were able to check-in early and upon arrival to the cottage it was basically a "shack". It was in disrepair. The cottage had NOT been cleaned. There was dust and grime everywhere, it smelled terrible and was completely uncomfortable. They then called the realtor who was rude and impolite, not caring or concerned about the fact that he had rented a place that was completely sub par and FILTHY. When I say filthy I mean everything from the tub to the floors, to the refrigerator hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long, it seemed like it could have been closed up for the entire Summer up until that point, untouched. Everything was falling apart, blinds were broken, the clothes line bent and fell over from the weight of beach towels (a normal use for a beach house clothes line) and the umbrella on the picnic table was broken. At one point we decided to cook on the grill and we opened the lid and it fell completely OFF. One of the bedrooms contained twin beds, one mattress was just lying on the floor and upon lifting it up, we realized there was MOLD on the bottom of it. It was an extreme heat wave and we had to search for fans to put in the windows, just for a little relief, the fans were covered in DUST and DIRT. It would take only one large AC unit to cool the place down but obviously the owners or this realty company have no desire to improve or maintain nice properties in order to have repeat renters. My parents were forced to open every single window, search around for fans, go out and buy cleaning products and candles in order to make this place semi-comfortable for their vacation. Thankfully, the weather was beach weather and we were able to avoid being inside as much as possible and not deal with the condition of the house. Having planned on a two week vacation with no other option or place to go on such short notice not to mention the fact that it had already been paid in full our family was able to make the best of it. We did call the realty company and tell them about everything that was broken on Saturday and they managed to show up Sunday mid morning and replace the umbrella, grill and clothes line. Still...this was a total disappointment and not what anyone would want out of a vacation home. You go to the Cape to relax and enjoy the space not feel totally grossed out by what you walk into. I really believe this realtor should be ashamed of himself for not seeing this property and being totally apologetic and offering to have a cleaning crew come in and make that place sparkle without complaint IMMEDIATELY. DISGUSTING!!! I will say that this place, if it had been taken care of would be a gem, it's right down the road from South Village Beach, walking distance and allows plenty of space for parking. If it wasn't for this location, I am 100% sure we all would have left. Honestly, I believe their money should be refunded for at least one week's stay. I feel like Cranberry Real Estate scammed our parents by allowing this place to be rented out under the assumption of it being a normal beach cottage not a crap hole. We made the best of it but there is NO EXCUSE FOR THE CONDITION OF THIS PLACE!! DO NOT RENT THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU LOOK INSIDE OF IT FIRST!!!! HORRIBLE!!!! read more

My wife has been talking for the past three years about a one week vacation, on the beach at the Cape. She contacted Cranberry Real Estate in West Dennis and secured a 4 bedroom home 20 yards from the beach. She was thrilled and our family looked forward to our first vacation in a year. The troubles became apparent even before we arrived; the contract was lost and had to be signed again. We arrived early as we were concerned about "Cape Cod Traffic" and were told by Tom the owner/Agent to call and he would let us in early if the cleaning was finished. We waited for hours and were rudely told to go pick up the key at his door when we called at 2 pm. No personal contact just a key drop. The only one key did not work at the front door. We had to call to find out an advice to use a back door. The home which we paid $ 3,500.00/week was a disaster. It smelled like mold, I do not mean a little musty. I mean like a building that had flooded several times in the past. In fact we found out from neighbors later that house did if fact flood twice that previous winter. One of the bedrooms did not have a window-ventilation and it was too hot to be usable. I knew my wife was upset but based upon our already disappointing interactions with Tom I knew he would be of no help. I sent the family to the beach and went to Stop and Shop and stocked up on cleaning supplies. Eight hours later I had cleaned the entire house. We stayed the week. It was not comfortable but was at least clean. The main room in the house the living room was unlivable because of the mildew coaches and chairs so we spent our time on the beach, or in the kitchen. On our last day we stayed on the beach to enjoy the weather and low and behold who should show up but the cleaning crew (an older immobile couple) who left after 33 minutes. No big mystery as to why I went through 4 large cans of Lysol wipes on the walls, baseboards, furniture. Tom I would say you should be ashamed but after 54 years on earth I am quite sure you have none. Please be very wary in dealing with this organization. I did meet 3 other reputable agents while we were there and we would consider the Cape again, but never with a house represented by Cranberry Real Estate. read more

We rented a house on Ocean Avenue from the owner of this agency for our annual family vacation to West Dennis, Cape Cod. When we arrived, the house was filthy, there were no screens in most of the windows, others were so badly damaged that the windows could not be opened. The house had clearly not been cleaned in a long time. The vaccuum was broken - when we alerted the agent, he dropped a new vaccuumm off, in the box, for us to assemble...on our vacation. The house wreaked of mold. The smell was all but unbearable after a rainy day. The trip was 3 weeks ago and I'm still having sinus problems as a result. (not something I typically suffer from). On the 3rd day, we discovered that the house was infested with mice. There were 4 caught while we were there and there was evidence of others. Mouse traps were dropped off a full 48 hours after we alerted them (we had long since bought our own). All of these things are far from acceptable in a vacation rental. When we left this property, we cleaned as well as we could. The house was left in far better shape than when we arrived. Once we returned home, he reached out to inquire about a broken chair on the back deck that appeared to have been hidden. After assuring him that the chair was broken when we arrived (lesson learned we should have immediately alerted him) he accused us of lying and kept a portion of the security deposit to cover it, and 'excessive cleaning'. Had we damaged anything, I would be more than willing to cover the cost, but given the appalling condition of the house, I found it despicable that he would even bring up the broken chair. We have been renting houses in this area for 15 years and will continue to rent, but will NEVER do business with this agency or any of its employees again. read more
