    Ryse Construction

    Ryse Construction

If you need any kind of mobile home repair, do not use this contractor! I sincerely regret ever…read morehaving anything to do with them. Settle in; this may be long. I suffered severe storm damage to my metal patio awnings and roof in June 2019. I immediately called my insurance company and they sent out a "field adjuster" to assess the damage. He brought with him Rob Ryse of Ryse Construction. The adjuster basically did nothing in terms of determining what damage was done or how much it would cost to repair it. All of that came from Rob Ryse. I thought it odd that a contractor would be doing the estimating, but I've ever had an insurance claim before so I had no idea. Neither of them, however, noticed the roof damage. I had to point that out to them. Hmmm, I started feeling even less confident. In the end, Ryse made the dollar estimate and that was what the insurance claim was for, less my deductible. But what Ryse did discover was that there had been other damage to the awnings caused by hail. I had never noticed that. I did have photographic evidence of the date of the hail damage in October 2018, but the adjuster dismissed my evidence and put another date on that storm! He then determined that there would have to be two separate claims, one for hail and one for wind damage in two different incidents. I would be stuck with two deductibles. Had the first claim gone in in October and the second one in June, the insurance company would have had to make certain repairs twice. By combining them into one repair, they saved about $3,000. Because SOME of the repair work was still duplicated, Ryse verbally hinted that he would cut me a small discount that was less than 1/4 that amount. I obtained two other bids on the work. One was quite a bit higher that Ryse but would have repaired a lot more; I felt he was over-bidding to get more work. The other was a bit lower but had a three to four month lead-time and I couldn't wait that long. I agreed to go with Ryse. Their lead time was four weeks. They sent out a two-man crew on a Thursday; they did the repairs on one of the two awnings. Their work looked decent, though it wasn't quite what I thought had been agreed to.. On the following morning they returned to complete the job, and on Friday afternoon two other workers arrived. The work was completed, or so they said, and they left at 3:00 on Friday without even giving me time to look over what they had done. They left a mess. They didn't complete the work. They did shoddy work. The mess they left took me and my partner several hours to clean up just so we could safely let our dogs outside over the week-end. I called Ryse but it was already after business hours so I could only leave a voice mail. On Monday, Rob Ryse came out to look at the work. He agreed to have a crew come out on Tuesday to finish the needed repairs and clean up the faulty work they'd done on Friday. By this time I was so disgusted that I agreed. I had already paid a deposit of approximately 1/3 the total estimate, but I was withholding the rest until the work was done. The crew returned on Tuesday and more or less fixed everything. I say "more or less" because there were still some minor problems. One support pillar is still not securely anchored and another is questionable. I haven't been able to verify the actual roof repairs. Ryse turned in his invoice to the insurance company; I've already complained about that. I have no idea what access he or his company has to my insurance account and I'm furious about that. I got my money from the insurance company and paid Ryse, less a small amount that I didn't have the cash to cover and was going to pay with a credit card. I went into their office this morning, 5 August 2019, to pay off that balance with my credit card. Although they have a sign at the desk that offers a 10% discount for "cash," they told me they would charge an additional 5% for using a credit card! Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, I had my checkbook with me and was able to write out a check for these rip-off artists. I warned them I would leave a bad review. Did they actually do good work in the end? I honestly can't say they did. As mentioned above, two of the awning support pillars are not securely anchored. I literally can't see if they did any of the contracted roof repairs, though Ryse told me they did. They left a horrible mess. And then springing that 5% charge for using a credit card was the last straw. I will not only never recommend this outfit, but I will make sure I warn anyone who asks that they are not to be trusted. I'm sure Rob Ryse will come on here and post a rebuttal. Maybe he'll accuse me of failing to do my consumer due diligence. Maybe he'll accuse me of using bad words in his place of business. I don't much care. My reputation as a contractor isn't at stake here, because I'm not a contractor. His is.

If you need a custom home built then you would be in better hands elsewhere. I could not recommend them less. ----‐---------------- We started this process on good footing, we spent time getting to know their team, talking through the project and setting expectations. We read their positive reviews and they put on a good face. But soon after construction started we realized that this team is completely out of their depth. As a whole they are destructively uncommunicative and are outright deceitful, Cesar their GC, and Katherine one of the business owners, particularly so. When problems were encountered, instead of working through solutions together, their strategy was to stall for as long as possible and to ignore our attempts to keep the project moving forward. Their behavior cost us months of delays which resulted in thousands of dollars lost, needless worry and lasting issues with our home and property. If you decide to move forward with this team, please keep record of every interaction, be extremely specific in your contract, and keep your attorney on hand. After our move in, and after clear explicit instructions from me on numerous occasions, business owner Katherine illegally and covertly recorded the exterior and interior of our property on multiple occasions, including video recording me inside of my home while I was unaware. Katherine and the rest of the team do not care about legality, your privacy, or the basic respect of their clients. During the build they tried their best to get more money out of us while delivering substandard work. The only way we were able to move into the home after many months past our projected move in date and many weeks spent in extended stays was by going around them to schedule our final inspection with the county, by communicating with our title company & lender, by filing complaints with the BBB and ROC. Stay on top of your project. If you are providing custom architectural plans, please know that the time, money and planning that went into your build documents mean nothing to them, they will do as they please without your intervention. Consent is not a word in their vocabulary. They changed our home and design, damaged our newly installed materials and appliances, illegally dumped their waste on our property & refused to properly clean up, refused to do work explicitly outlined in our contract, and attempted to cut corners at every turn. They're unwilling to learn, improve or accept responsibility. Through my interactions with this team I have come to learn what the term "gaslighting" means. They continued to smile in my face, offering pleasantries and small talk, expecting me to quickly move past their damaging behavior while their actions and words remained persistently harmful. Save yourself the trouble.

I couldn't wait to go to High School, where I could take Shop classes and learn more. My Senior year, I actually took 2 advanced Woodshop classes per day, and most lunch hours you'd find me there working on a project. Woodworking became my passion. I proceeded to build all kinds of things in school, from a stereo cabinet with speakers, to a regulation size solid oak pool table with automatic ball return. My instructor could see how passionate I was, and pretty much let me do my own thing in class, as long as I had completed my required work and passed the tests. I had no idea at the time that I would be building custom hardwood furniture as my career. I still enjoy it just as much today as I did back then. Maybe more!
