I started a "project" on Yelp and decided on Alen from Cranks. For a long time I've looked for someone honest, someone with integrity AND the skill to count on. For this, not being complicated, not as much was at risk to try a new mechanic to figure out why when if I'm not leaking wiper fluid and I've filled it, the fluid only ejects onto the windshield intermittently? I walked away from Cranks with more. I was excited that there might still be people running business somewhere out in the world with grace and integrity. Alen from Cranks could have easily told me there's a crack or that the tube needs flushing, or basically...anything. He did the exact opposite. He took valuable hourly-rate kinda time I could see he didn't have (busy shop!). He actually LOOKED under the hood and tested some. He came up with a plan for going forward so as to NOT jump into work he'd do to charge me $ that in the end might not be needed. All of that without a dime being exchanged. This is how it used to be back home. You know...back when "repairing" anything occurred only when it was broken/ back when it was easier to find a business that feels and operates with the belief that money will never be more important than integrity, personal accountability and work ethic. How that is far greater than honoring volume and hype and how they're not even in the same category. Do you remember that? It existed! I swear! Not everywhere, and of course not with every one at a business. But it was far from extinct. A business might be busy as a result of someone also CARING; about their own work, their art, no matter what IT was. And the REALLY great would have BOTH (I'm not joking!) mad skill WITH integrity, humility and pride in their work, albeit a sweeper or corporate exec - no difference. My initial take on Cranks is that Alen might just embody what I'be been squinting to see: "Mad skill" that I'm yet to experience but excited to, mixed WITH a non-negotiable respect and integrity. It feels as if Alen/Cranks could! :) Meeting Alen for the first time today he was really personable, intelligent, had a good and fun sense of humor. The shop and those in it don't give off the slightest vibe of shady or slimy. Definitely felt solo-woman-friendly too, ladies (I know. So hard to find.) Maybe I got them on a good day but I just don't get that feeling. Normally I wouldn't post until I've experienced a businesses work....but I also personally feel there is more to it than just "did they fix it? Was it expensive? Fast?" Maybe that's just me? I've already experienced how anyone can have "great" skills and talent, such as a great mechanic or great tailor, a chef, store clerk, person, etc. But without integrity, some pride, respect for their own work and some level of awareness of the trust strangers just have to muster to decide, particularly w/ using a mechanic....just skill alone, I constantly feels as if something I once felt is missing. Not just mechanics but all business and trades. There is a priceless wisdom to understanding that REAL money pours in if we can contain both "great" skill and learned knowledge of that skill AND care and respect for what we do that can simply not be bought, no matter what. I will write again once Alen has physically worked on my car and monies are exchanged - and if I'm wrong I'll be the first to write it. I LONG for highly skilled, creative, trustworthy, talented and HONEST businesses. I long to look someone in the eye to say "trust me, this mechanic is totally above board and would risk you disliking them before ripping you off or lying for a quick buck" - I'm lookin for that in EVERY business and exchange- from restaurants to vacuum repair. I absolutely must swallow what I "want" most of the time and go to businesses that might have the skill alone. Or who have the rest but lack skill. For certain things either/or can work. I honor that too. But I long for both. Skill & talent, on its own, has been much easier for me to find. Xo read more

Alen is a very decent person who doesn't try to deceive you into spending more money than you have to. I had a quote from the Northridge Toyota dealer that seemed a bit high. I decided to do some research and notice Cranks was the only place where people had glowing comments. There weren't any outlier reviews that brought down the score from 5 stars and I was somewhat skeptical but that usual means either not enough people have been to a place or the business does actually care about customers. Right off the start Alen told me one of the "urgent" matters the dealer noted was not critical at all. A chance to save money? Count me in. He was able to take my car right then and had the other issues (axle and brake rotors) resolved by the end of same day. He explained all the work done and even showed me the old parts as proof. I can't believe he even provided transparency/options in which part I wanted for the axle (I opted for the cheaper one). I've never had a mechanic follow up after work was done, but that's what Alen did the next day. That's amazing service! By the way, my car is a Toyota. I know the signage suggests they specialize in German cars, but my car was no problem for his team. It's so refreshing to find a specialist who doesn't seem like he's trying to exploit unknowledgeable people. read more

It should be no surprise why Cranks has 5 stars on Yelp! These guys are the absolute best.... I had a check engine light turn on for my 2018 Range Rover and they checked the error and told me that it was just a loose gas cap. Alen wouldn't charge me for reading the error and even patched one of my tires and checked my brakes at the same time. They had the car back to me the same day, what more can you ask for? Front brakes were making a grinding sound. Took my Mitsubishi Endeavor in to Crank's Auto Repair and Alen took care of everything at a fair price. He was friendly and professional and answered all my questions to my satisfaction. I was able to pick up my car the same day at 4pm. The car now brakes better than ever. I feel very safe driving now. I regularly purchase gas from the shell station where Cranks is located. I noticed a sign above Cranks shop that says automatic transmission service for $89.99 so I went inside and asked about it. Explained that I have a base model 1968 f100 that needs automatic transmission fluid change. Mechanic comes out of the shop looking slightly triggered and says "No No No absolutely not I will not touch that kind of truck I can not do." I just looked at him like... really bro? Well alright then... He didn't even explain why he wouldn't touch it... Its funny how it's such a simple truck and he was scared of it. I'd change the transmission fluid myself in my driveway but I have a fractured elbow and shouldn't push it. Really is such a simple truck. Anyways hopefully Cranks takes this as a lesson learned. Always talk to people respectfully or they will write a negative Yelp review about you. read more
