Went here for dinner tonight. Great menu with lots of interesting options, and nice atmosphere with quaint outdoor seating area. But one complaint about my dinner - I specifically asked the waitress if the collard greens were cooked with meat (pork), and she said no so I ordered a dish that included them. A couple bites into them I discover there is pork in them. Not the end of the world for me but I am vegetarian, and it could be for someone if the staff doesn't know what is in the food and serves someone with an allergy or very strict diet. This should be basic waitstaff training - if you get asked a question about food and you don't know - ask the kitchen!! Don't guess!! Also, after mentioning it the waitress, it would have been nice if they offered me an alternative vegetable side dish since I had no desire to eat the collard greens, but they didn't. Had the best salad I've ever had! Warm Spinach/ lettuce salad and tomato basil soup was an amazing lunch! The propieters, Heath and Christi are as welcoming and genuine as they are gifted cooks! The cafe also has great coffee bar, a book and gift shop. Local art is displayed throughout this adorable cafe. What a find! Truly amazing food and excellent, service! What a great place for breakfast and lunch in Chester, California! I can recommend especially their truly home made tomato soup and their turkey sandwich. The ambiance is very cozy, due to the warm lighting and the bistro type furniture, and also because bookshelves with latest titles line the walls. Cravings is our go to restaurant when we're in Chester. Our second home is in Chester and we always look forward to enjoy a meal at Cravings. Many times we will split a breakfast or order half. Try the Settlers breakfast for some great gravy over hash browns with egg and toast. For lunch the warm salad is to die for. I also love the corn beef sandwich with coleslaw. Everything that you expect for and hope for in a breakfast place... comfy, easy, friendly, & unique. Enjoyed my peppermint latte, but I would probably try something else next time. It was a little on the sweet side for my breakfast, but that is solely my fault. Foamed & steamed to perfection. Colby and I split some breakfast dish with hash browns, sausage gravy, eggs, etc. eggs were over medium, and perfect. I am super picky with eggs... gooey whites freak me out, but I LOVE gooey yolks. Best latte around! The food is fresh and delicious! Try the Greek yogurt bowl with lots of fresh local fruit & honey with some of their homemade granola. Their cur beef hash is excellent. Don't pas up on their maple bacon Cronut. Husband & wife team own the place and do it right. Would hire chef/husband for catered meals. Open breakfast & lunch. Best spot in the area. The country gravy is not the best- pass on items with it. Sandwiches are always delicious. Also for a small place they have the best Chai Lattes! In my opinion beats Starbucks. Service is good, weekends and summer are busy. Locals come early in the am. Larger parties can be overwhelming w/out a reservation so if there are a bunch of you call ahead. I give Cravings five stars for the good coffee and good food too. The outside of the building needs attention, but inside it is very nice, including a book store and gift shop with many interesting items, not junk. We just ate there two morning in a row. The staff is friendly and cares about the customers. If felt covid safe as well: The tables were spaced out and all staff wore face covering (Not true for other eateries we visited in the area over the weekend, but hey, it's a mountain town for sure.) This morning the restaurant filled up by the time we left. It's good that folks already know it is good place. I would rather have good food then new paint outside. read more

My wife and I ate here yesterday, upon our return back to our vacation home. As always the food and service was outstanding! Each item is truly prepared with fresh produce, protein and satisfying the customer with the best product. Service is top notch, always with a smile and food delivered quickly ( even on busy days & if short handed), which was there case today. We've never been rushed or waited very long. We love the food and ambiance at this cute place. The combination of cafe and bookstore is charming and inviting. The one thing that keeps us from giving a five star review is that the service is spotty. Some of the waitstaff are wonderful, while others act a bit like they're doing you a favor and are a little grumpy. We recently visited with a party of six and, while there were several smaller open tables, the hostess just shrugged and told us to "figure it out" (we ended up splitting 4+2, which was OK but less than ideal and she made no effort to help find a better solution). My innards are still churning from my sub-par evening meal and dining experience at this slop house. My wife and I were joined by another local couple at what appeared to be, based on reviews, an above average establishment. With the exception of a decent view from uncomfortable chairs and tiny table overlooking a stream, my wife's and my experience was poor at best. There was absolutely no value in the menu items we were served. A bread bowl starter was ordered that contained a few dry cornbread muffins seemingly from a box and I couldn't bring myself to sample the included scones after choking down a muffin. My wife ordered an overpriced starter salad and their tacos, I their Rigatoni Red as the main course. The tacos were heavily spiced to the point of being inedible, too spicy to even take home for the dogs. My Rigatoni Red was mushy noodles in a brown gravy with slippery vegetables. My wife mentioned her food being too spicy to one of the waitstaff, no remedy was offered. Our friends ordered a shrimp dish and steak dish. The steak was satisfactory but the shrimp dish was heavily spiced to the point our friends wife's repeated request for a taste, were denied due to the fire in his mouth. We were offered desert, no takers. Capping our evening, while still chewing our last bites we were approached by a waitstaff person named Logan who curtly instructed us to leave our table as quickly as possible in order to seat more people. A real gem in Chester, CA. Stopped by for lunch after comparing our options in town. Was not disappointed. Good food, good service and a pleasant atmosphere. This place is always on our dining agenda whenever I visit my friend who lives in town. Such a nice, cozy place, where the locals know the staff by name, "Mayberry" feel to it in that way. The staff is always so nice and personable, food is good and there is a cute little bookstore adjacent to the restaurant. I have been here twice now and I am sold. The food here is fresh and the couple that owns the place puts their heart into everything. The baked goods are delicious and are made fresh daily. Both times I have been here I have gotten breakfast. On the last trip my wife ordered the Settlers Scramble and I ordered the French toast. The French toast was great but my favorite was the Settlers. I am glad my wife shared with me. My wife also ordered the Girl Scout cookie latte and raved about it the whole day. For a small town this is a great find. I can't wait to get back up to Lake Almanor so we can come back and eat here. read more

Really cute place off the Main Street in Chester. It seems to be run by a husband/wife team and they are doing a fantastic job! We arrived right at 7am and were the first people there, but the restaurant quickly filled up. They have coffee (mocha's, etc), house made pastries, and then a full sit down menu as well. Most menu items offered full or half sizes, which I thought was a nice touch as sometimes you don't want a huge meal. My husband got biscuits and gravy, my dad got an omelette and my mother and I both got a classic egg and hash brown breakfast. You could tell that the cook really takes pride in his work - everything was delicious, and he came out to check on us a couple times. Our coffee and water was always full, and everyone enjoyed their breakfasts. For four people with coffee, it set us back about $50. We were all very full and contented! read more

Amazing food, service and environment. The beautiful owner and her husband the chef were constantly checking to make sure we were satisfied. I'm very picky when I order food and she had no issue making adjustments for me. We didn't get dessert but only because we try to stay away from sugar but everything looked fresh and so delicious! Only thing I might slightly complain about was the plates clank on the table when you go in for a bite, I think some cloth placemats would take care of that, also the door to open the pastry display made a lot of noise each time a customer would request one it was like a mini earthquake lol but I am sensative to noise when eating so I doubt those tings would bother the average person. read more
