Copper Kettle Cafe was exactly the kind of stop we needed after a long day driving from the Sequoia area toward Lassen Volcanic National Park. At that point, hunger was making major life decisions for us, and this place definitely hit the spot. We ordered the Cobb salad, a cheeseburger, and a milkshake. Everything tasted good. Nothing dramatically life-changing or worthy of a dramatic food documentary narration, but solid, satisfying comfort food when you really need it. The milkshake was actually very good, and honestly part of the charm was watching the staff figure out the wonderfully ancient milkshake machine. It felt a little like witnessing a friendly negotiation between modern humans and a relic from a 1957 diner. Somehow, though, the machine delivered. It also seemed like there may have been new owners or at least people still settling into things. Communication was occasionally a little challenging, but everyone was trying, and the whole interaction ended up feeling more charming and humorous than frustrating. My family and I have been going here for generations and never have experienced such rude management. They must've had an ownership change because their service last year was fine. There was an older gentleman with glasses that wouldn't even seat my party of 6 because he was "waiting for bigger parties to arrive." There were maybe 2 other families seated and the rest of the place was empty with no reservations. He was just overall very short-tempered, rude, and shouldn't be hosting at all. When my family went here earlier this week without me, the same guy berated a kid in front of them for asking to take their glasses (he asked politely and still got yelled at in front of my family). My dad tried to stand up for the kid but the guy claimed that "he needs to learn his lesson." The guy also denied my little brother a chocolate milkshake because they were understaffed (again, there were only 3 parties seated out of the entire restaurant). They used to get lines out the door but now the place is so empty (for good reason). Please don't eat here and instead, support other restaurants that actually deserve service :( read more

The service was great, wasn't too busy so I didn't expect to wait forever long and we didn't. We were seated by the nice lady and the older gentleman took over towards the end and was very kind and happy to see us. The food was great usual French toast but huge and delicious hash browns. I ordered the Fried Chicken dinner with a baked potato and it was a huge portion! I couldn't finish it all. Each bite had a signature crispy crunch with every bite! The ambiance of as home like, typical American Diner vibes with a mix of asian touches. Food was mediocre. Staff was inattentive Coffee was old and burnt. Dinning room was empty. Waitress was not on the floor. Asked the older man who sat me for a drink and he stated, "she will help you". I looked around and there was no one. I waited over 10 min for the waitress. There was quite a few diners in the restaurant this day and a large party in the back and the service seemed good for the amount of people there. The food here was actually quite good; unfortunately, the poor service brought down the experience. Service was basically non-existent. When we arrived there were only two tables seated and it took a few minutes to be acknowledge. Following that it was over 10 minutes for the server to ask for our drink order. Following that it was another 15 minutes for the server to take our food order. In the meantime I got up to self-serve my drink refill but the owner did step in to complete that. It was noted that the owner and the waitress were constantly chit chatting vs. her doing her job. It shouldn't have taken 90 minutes to get a breakfast for 2 people in an extremely empty cafe. We had been to Amy's Kopper Kettle twice before and the food was good, served hot and fresh. It was a busy Friday around noon. Luckily, a few tables were vacant. The place looked clean and it reminds me a bit of Eppies or early 90's Denny's. My husband enjoyed the Monte Cristo sandwich. It was huge, full of cheese and meat. Plenty of macaroni salad. I wasn't feeling so good that morning but I needed something to keep me going until the late afternoon. I saw the mozzarella sticks, so that was a must and shared them reluctantly I needed some protein, but not a whole plate of chicken tenders and fries. Here's where things were uncomfortable: I asked if a smaller serving of chicken tenders (3 waitress said she had to "think about that" for a minute. She said she'd be "right back" with an answer and after a few minutes, came back, only to ask "Do you know what you want yet?" I repeated my earlier request, and the waitress said "We could always do the kid's meal. In interest of time, I asked what that included - she said 3 tenders, small side of fries or fruit. I said fries. I didn't see it on the menu but if she said so... So, my husband got his sandwich and he enjoyed it. The mozzarella sticks were perfect. About 10 minutes later, I get the rest of my meal --TWO tenders, a slice of lettuce and tiny sliver of carrot. No fries, or anything else aside from a bowl of my salad dressing. I looked at my husband and said "whatever." So, we eat. The chicken was good, but I could have eaten another piece as they were small. I gave the dressing to my husband. 15 minutes went by until we got our check. The place was quite busy, no big deal. Out of curiosity, I looked at the check. $8.95 for two chicken tenders and no sides? The six piece and fries was about 12.99, but I was too tired to fuss. Our drinks were refilled - a positive! Upon entering we were immediately descended upon by a three workers like a pack of wolves attacking--who obviously and clearly don't need the business in the dead of winter on a Sunday: The man who seemed to be "in charge" approached us aggressively informing us his patio was closed and no dogs were allowed. In spite of my telling him my dog was a trained service animal- clearly indicated by his service vest - he told me it did not matter. No dogs allowed. I informed him it is illegal to deny a service animal entry to a business. He claimed he had allergies. I told him my dog was hypoallergenic being a standard poodle. He argued and told me that that was not true and insisted he knew better because was a microbiologist. He kept on talking as we were already prepared to leave telling us there plenty of other places we could eat on Sunday afternoon, which was actually not true. A guy seated us at a table, gave us menus, one coffee and then left for 20 minutes without taking our order. A different person showed up, took our orders and left. We got our food about 20 minutes later. My pancakes were hard around the edge and required a knife to cut them. My friends eggs and hash browns were ok Not once did they return to the table to see if we needed anything, nor was a coffee refill offered. We finally motioned for the check and the bill was paid. Had dinner here with a friend in August 2022. Just us and one other party in the restaurant. Service was attentive and the food was good, though a bit pricey. The server said they were out of potato salad but would make me a fresh batch. It took a little longer than my chili, but tasted homemade, which I guess it kind of was. Come here doesn't have times, I never had a problem. I've gotten their egg salad sandwich before when we dined in and it was fine but that was years ago. Ordered it this time so I could eat it in the car before we headed back home, an hour away. Passing through this tiny town on our trip and wanted something to help with that homesick feel. This place nailed it. The steak was perfect with a lot of flavor, so much so that we didnt need A-1 sauce. And the potatoes were delish. As I was passing through town, I just HAD to pay a visit to Kopper Kettle Cafe, so as a dedicated "foodie," webmaster, photographer and "Yelper," I could see what Kopper Kettle is all about... As you walk in, you're greeted with a great counter, and a friendly staff member who will invite you to sit anywhere you choose when the restaurant is lightly seated. I arrived later than the rest of my party, who were already comfortably seated on the inviting outside patio. The dining room is rustic, cozy, and is in keeping with the small-town atmosphere that Chester has to offer. If you look around the corner from the main dining room, you can see the 100+ gallon aquarium which is pretty impressive. Now I know why the fish served at this wonderful restaurant is so fresh! The breakfast menu features all of your favorites, and covers all bases for breakfast lovers. Note that Kopper Kettle Cafe is serious about breakfast, as breakfast is served anytime the restaurant is open. The lunch menu has all of your favorites, including burgers. I was torn between a burger, or a chicken fried steak, but the steak won out. From the "Breakfast Traditions" menu - breakfast is served anytime the restaurant is open - my friend Dan and I ordered the "Chicken Fried Steak with Country Gravy, and Two Eggs." The breakfast comes with a choice of hash browns or country potatoes, several varieties of toast, or a biscuit, and after Dan ordered his breakfast, I said, "I'll take the same." We really decided to up the ante by ordering an optional bowl of country gravy on the side. The main feature of the meal, the chicken fried steak, was just the right size - about 6 ounces - and was tender, juicy, and melted in your mouth. The eggs were fried perfectly over easy, as ordered, with is a tribute to the skill of the chef. You can choose from all the common varieties of toast, or order a biscuit, but since the chicken fried steak was covered with gravy, we went with a freshly baked, delicious biscuit, as that seemed like the way to go. Speaking of the gravy... the steak was covered with gravy, but Dan and I both ordered a bowl of the gravy on the side, with no regrets, and the gravy was FANTASTIC!
