2025 update: The food in the restaurant was just ok. We got the garden burger and the lodge burger. They had a soup of the day - cream of chicken with wild rice, which I liked. I think I enjoyed the food more last time. 2021 review: The lovely people here have completely biased my review We got to the lodge around 8:30 pm and after checking in, I asked what time the restaurant remained open till. One of the servers said, oh we close at 8 pm, then looked at the clock which showed 8:30 pm and then told me, "we can still seat you, no issues!" Who does that?! Only good people, that's who!! Couldn't thank them enough as we would've had to drive God knows how far to get food! They didn't rush us after seating either. For the dinner, we ordered the trout fillet, the steak with coleslaw, cottage cheese, chicken noodle soup and baked beans as sides and a glass of Chardonnay and IPA from the tap. The food was very good. Nice and homey and delicious. The sides were perfect accompaniments to the main courses. For breakfast the next morning, we ordered the Belgian waffle and the bacon and cheese omelet with country potatoes and a latte. This was also very good, well-made delicious and very filling. The latte was excellent! The prices are not cheap and you may have limited options of vegetarian. We had 4 meals at the restaurant while staying at the lodge. Every one of them was great! The prices were reasonable and the portions were generous. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They kept our water full. Our food came out quickly and it was hot. The steaks wet cooked exactly as we ordered, rare and medium rare. The seasoning had a kick to it. The brussel sprouts were fantastic! I had them both nights we ate here. They were crispy and seasoned with garlic and salt. I would recommend either getting them as an appetizer or substituting them for another side. The fries were homemade. The pork ribs were tender and meaty. They were nicely glazed with a sweet sauce. The chicken breast was nicely seasoned but could have been a little more moist. Our breakfasts were filling. The oatmeal was cooked perfectly and served with raisins, brown sugar and milk. Cinnamon was available. The parfait has berries and crunchy granola. The restaurant was comfortable with lots of tables. Music played softly in the background. The staff kept the tables clean. Amazing. In an area where there is next to no other option they are doing it all very well! I used to stop by in the 70's-80's, when Lassen Ski Park was open, Went back for breakfast a couple years ago and dinner a week ago. Steak- seasoned well, tender, delicious. Same for grilled chicken. Others in our party loved the ribs, beans and fish and chips. Cocktails were great. Santa was even there during our visit for the littles. Service was excellent, friendly and easy. A family run establishment. Brandi always welcomes everyone with friendly hello. Diner feel inside with random knick knacks for sale. We stayed at the motel and ate there 3 times. First time - Sat dinner service was bit slow at (waited 45 min, only 1 man cooking in back). Lodge burger was ok - didn't get why burger was served with ciabatta bun and not a normal hamburger bun. Friend got child's size of spaghetti (adult serving would've easily fed two). Said meatballs were good but marinara sauce didn't taste good. :( 2nd time: Breakfast was much faster/better experience. Bacon egg scramble with country potatoes and English muffin was pretty filling for our day hike. 3rd time: Belgian waffle with strawberry compote was good. Unfortunately the pie was out. Considering you're out in the forest in the middle of nowhere, this little restaurant is a pretty good place to stop. The rest rooms are around back, use if you really have to. We had breakfast here, but they serve all meals here from Breakfast to lunch of burgers and such to dinner with a rib eye steak or ribs on the menu. Price are reasonable, considering the shipping of the food to get it here. The service is very friendly and they're used to tourists. Home style cooking I'd call it. Every single TV commercial you've ever seen about a restaurant tries to convince you they have just an ounce of what this place has in pure, natural abundance: Authenticity. Sitting in the middle of woods, surrounded by bears, wolves, coyotes and mountain lions, is this gem of a spot. And if you're lucky enough to be there on a Saturday night, they open the attached bar and all the locals come out for pool, shuffle board and to get schooled by one of the locals, who is a regional fooseball champion. The Lodge has a great dinner (esp. the cobbler for dinner), but breakfast is great too. We split the Lassen, because it has a biscuit and gravy in addition to the full breakfast (eggs, meat, potatoes, toast). Super cheerful and accommodating service (lots of coffee!). Nice fluffy biscuit with standard white (not sausage) gravy.... just fine for me. This is an all around nice place, representative of the best in rural diner/cafe!!! Let me start by saying that if you are a creature of comfort and Hilton is what sets the standard for you, this is not your kind of Motel. But if you wish to get away for a few days, stay in a comfortable, quiet, and hospitable place near one of the most beautiful National Parks then keep reading! I have stayed in this place three times over the last 5 years. While I admit that I was first taken aback by the lack of TV in the room, after the first night I quickly began to appreciate that very fact. Who wants to spend time staying in and watching TV when you can get a solid breakfast in the morning at the restaurant and hit any of the many hiking trails in the park. The place is family owned and over the course of my three visits I have met four generations of the family. The two adorable kids, their parents who work in the restaurant, their paternal grand parents who own the place, the maternal grandfather, and check this out, their maternal great great grandfather who is a WWII veteran of the Pacific Front. He is 90 years old, looks solid, still drives his own pickup truck. Very nice people. The restaurant is good and very affordable. The breakfasts are solid, and any dinner item we tried was good. I personally loved the burgers. They also run the store that has most everything you need while on a road trip. read more

We ate here as it was the only game in town. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it was nice and honey on the inside. We sat on the patio, which was refreshing. After spending all day in Lassen Volcanic National Park, we were famished and wanted dinner ASAP. Obviously, the best food after a long day hiking is a burger. We pulled in the parking lot, went into the restaurant, and you could tell it was a mix of locals and other park visitors. This is definitely a no frills place. A bit run down, to be honest, but sometimes that's where you find the best burgers. Service: Seat yourself, one waitress for pretty much the whole place. It works. Food: We started with some mozzarella sticks to start. The exterior was crunch and the cheese was gooey. It was also served with a side of ranch - bonus points from my bf. I ordered the buffalo burger with garlic fries. My bf ordered a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. My burger was juicy and flavorful. The garlic fries were solid. My bf's burger was also pretty good and his onion rings were nice and crispy. Price: It was a bit more expensive than what we expected from a hole in the wall sort of place, but then again, getting all the ingredients into the middle of nowhere can't be cheap. This was a pleasent surprise during a trip to Lassen volcanic national park. Great ambience, friendly service, lot of options and good food. Jalapeño poppers were okay, but my BBQ pulled pork sandwich was delicious. They were very generous with delicious chicken pieces on the blue cheese chicken salad. Garlic Brussel sprouts were little too salty, oily and burnt for me. Fries were standard and good. Nice margaritas as well. Think they had a full bar. All in all most stuff we tried we liked it, and definitely worth the visit if you are in the area. read more

It just wasn't worth it. And really just a very bizarre, expensive, unhappy experience. The two ladies running the place obviously hate their jobs. I felt like I was bothering them, and felt really guilty when I asked to change my order "to go." Service is zero stars. Food was absolutely average. I got a buffalo burger, and the boys got ribs, and trout. The trout was the best of the three. The burger was dry, and I'm pretty sure the ribs were frozen, prepackaged. The food is three stars. The prices are ridiculous. I understand you are paying more because of the location... But $65 for three meals, and no drinks?!?!? That's ridiculous! And then on top of that, I gave them a $15 tip for food "to go" because I'm so generous. Prices are one star because I can't afford any more stars. But the most bizarre part is when my son was carrying the food out to the car and dropped a small side of coleslaw (part of the $23 ribs meal). I told him to run back in and get another one. My very polite 12 year old boy went in, apologized, and asked for another. They charged my son an extra $3 to replace it! From his own allowace money! I was shocked! I went in and asked why. They said, well, once he takes the food out the door, it's not their responsibility. I asked, huh? He's a 12 year old kid, and you are gonna make him pay $3 bucks from his own allowance? They refused to give him his $3 bucks back. Sooooo... I politely asked for my credit charge receipt back, deleted the $15 tip, and gave them zero. In my honest opinion, this place is run by a bunch of unhappy morons. ZERO STARS. Go to Chester! Much better food, prices, and service! read more

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this out-of-the-way place with its old fashioned "saloon" decor. My expectations dropped even further when we arrived, found the place almost totally empty, and had to wait 10 minutes for an employee to make an appearance. But as soon as she did, our experience turned around. She was cheerful and welcoming and quickly brought us out some pretty tasty local beers. We didn't order anything fancy, just a burger and some chicken strips. We got brussel sprouts, fries, and a green salad on the side. The sides were REALLY GOOD. Surprisingly good! I was taken aback by how fresh the salad was, considering the location, and the brussel sprouts were so perfectly fried and seasoned, we couldn't stop nibbling on them even after we were full. I stopped here, famished after hiking Lassen Peak. It's exactly what I expected for a lodge type restaurant, homey, cozy, a little cluttered. The waitress was very nice and efficient enough, maybe stretch a little thin as the only server for the whole place. You never know about food at hole in the wall places like this, but the trout and baked potato were delicious. The garlic brussel sprouts were slightly overcooked (burned) but still edible. Everything you would want from a small lodge just outside the Lassen Park boundary. Rooms are nonsmoking, clean, well maintained. About on par with a three star motel. Restaurant is cozy and serves huge portions of hearty food. It will fill you up and prepare you for your day. They have a general store as well for all you camping needs. I'm giving five stars because it is a fine run establishment in a perfect location. And they don't have any reviews right now so I want them to stand out. I would definitely come again. read more

We LOVED Lassen Mineral Lodge. We spent the days in the Park, but we would get a lunch to go for the hikes. We always had breakfast and dinner at the lodge and it was ALWAYS GOOD!!! We will stay there again next summer and do more hiking at Lassen Park!!! Also the staff was ALWAYS really friendly and very helpful if you had any questions about anything. You won't find many restaurants or cafes near Lassen National Volcanic Park, but thankfully the restaurant at the Mineral Lodge offers a great menu and great food at a reasonable price. Located a few miles from the southern park entrance, on the main road which heads west towards the I80 and the San Francisco bay. read more

This is a review of the Restaurant. I ate here twice this week (going to, and then leaving home from, Lassen Volcanic National Park). I have eaten here at least a dozen times in the last ten years. The service and the quality of the food is consistently very good. There are a fairly wide range of menu items. The prices are reasonable. The ambiance is cozy. The kitchen is clean. This is a family-run business. This week, I saw the latest generation help with table service. After you leave Red Bluff, there are very few (any?) dining options on the way to the south entrance of Lassen, but Mineral Lodge has long been, and continues to be, a very reliable and tasty option. read more

This is a tough review because there were MANY FLAWS, but, at the same time it is family run and literally every member of their family is working. So, let me try to break down the review so you can hopefully get a picture: Food = 4 stars. Taste was very good, portions were worth the price, The only criticism I have is wierd because the buns on the hamburgers are homemade and delicious, but, they are too chewy so when you take a bite the burger slips out of the bun. So, do I criticize the slippage or applaud the good taste? wierd... you decide. Onion rings were very tasty. Drinks and chicken strips were very good as well. Service: friendly, but, really slow and sort of odd. They would ask obvious questions like: "Can we get some extra napkins please?" ... answer "Did you want 3 (3 of us sitting there) or did you need more?" I don't know...bring me a handful and I'll leave what we don't use lol. Or: "Can I please get some more iced tea?"...answer..."did you want more ice also?". Anyway, the entire family is there including a 15 month old running around being cute. I kept saying to myself...it is the mountains...it is a family business...don't be too harsh on the criticisms. All in all we liked the food and the price was fair for the portions so I can't be harsh and nitpick too much. I saw at least two groups of people get mad for not being served and/or having too slow a service so if the management is reading this you may want to train your servers to be a bit more efficient so you don't lose business. read more

We stopped here to get a bite to eat, were excited about the wide range of menu options, and were then disappointed to wait...and wait...and wait. Since we were driving for some time before we hit a restaurant we could eat at, we were hoping for prompt service. Having been a waitress at one time myself I would have understood if they had been busy and understaffed, but this was not the case. This was beyond poor service. Both servers looked at us, made eye contact, and then continued to service the other tables who really didn't need anything. (Can I get you anything else? Would you like some dessert?...No, No...) No hello. No "I'll be right with you." No "Can I get you something to drink?" This went on for at least ten to fifteen minutes while they continued to attend to the other tables. One customer I could understand because they were serving them food, so I waited until they brought out all the plates, giving them one more chance to attend to our table. The other table was done eating. And the third had paid their bill and left. Inside, I don't remember exactly if there were any customers, but if there were, it was almost empty. The food presentation looked lovely. If you could ever get anyone to take your order! We made eye contact with both servers on the patio on several occasions. Every time they came back outside they basically ignored us. After waiting a bit longer, would you believe they went back out to the same table to ask if everything was okay there? Hello! I got up to leave, that was the last straw for me. By this time another couple had sat down without anyone bringing them menus or stopping by to get their drink order. The hostess in the indoor area probably didn't bother to get up from her laptop. I had specifically asked to see the menu since I have dietary limitations so she had given us ours. But this couple sat bewildered for a few minutes. I gave them my menu as I was walking out. Finally, the server asked "Are you moving?" No, we are leaving. When we explained that we had been waiting the server hadn't a clue. I hope the other couple did better than us. I have never walked out of a restaurant before. So I have to say this was pretty bad. In fact I would say it was beyond bad, it was just plain rude. They're the only game in town, and it shows. We went up to the cafe inside the National Park instead. I would strongly encourage others to do the same or visit nearby Chester for meals. read more

Me and 13 Snowshoeing Adventurers showed up here after a chilly snowing shoeing outting. The weather had been so bad, we could not shoe in Lassen up from visitor center because of avalanche danger! So you get the feeling of day we were out and about in! But we had fun in the forest below Lassen Park! The restaurant was about full and they accomodated our group to fill the house. We knew we had to wait, but nobody was in a hurry. We had terrific Buffalo Burgers and service! I love the old pics on wall and fun things to look at!
