Coming from New Orleans, I have pretty high standards for crawfish so when coming here after hearing reviews from my friends I had high expectations and crawfish cafe definitely met all of them. These were some of the best crawfish I've had in a long time. Located in the Hong Kong Mall, the set-up is like they literally took over a section of the mall, roped it off and called it their own. I can't even call it a restaurant because it's not closed in like a traditional restaurant. It's a small space and there are about 8 seats at the bar. We were here on a Saturday afternoon shortly after they opened, so the bar was closed. The overall place is not too large, so come early because there will be a wait. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, but I'm sure the wait can get much longer as it gets later in the day. There are TV's all around and there is one in the center of the mall, so you can watch your favorite sports team win the game. Now let's talk about their crawfish. These really are the best crawfish I have had in a very long time, but I wish they came a little bit more spicy. I ordered extra spicy, but they still weren't that spicy. Oh well, they were good. They were a nice size (large and medium mix), and the seasoning is fantastic! I recommend The Mix seasoning, which is a mix of garlic butter and lemon pepper flavor. It gave the crawfish an awesome taste. Before I realized it, I had sat there and ate 6 pounds of crawfish! Baby that seasoning had me hooked! We also had the wings, which are traditional drumettes. We tried the Fish Sauce wings and they were good. A little sweet, but the flavor was good. I'm a buffalo sauce lover, so I'll stick to my traditional hot wings, but hey, I tried something new so that should count for something, right? There are a variety of items on the menu for you to enjoy, such as gumbo, oysters, boudin balls or link, turkey necks and fried fish and shrimp baskets just to name a few. I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you choose to order. Parking is in the Hong Kong Mall parking lot, which is huge, but because this is a popular mall and it starts jumping as soon as the doors open, you will have to drive around for an available parking spot. Ever tasted crawfish so good you didn't even need any extra sauces? I now have. We decided to come before dinner since I read reviews about there being a wait. It was fairly empty around 4pm and we were seated immediately. Pretty simple menu, but those are my fav for Cajun places. They really focus on the flavors of their dishes. The crawfish is in season, $7.99/lb mostly filled with large ones. I would have to agree with some reviews when they say they probably weigh the crawfish with the corn+etc. because 5 lbs didn't look like that much. Other than that, the spicy was not very spicy to me but spicy to my fiancé. 'The Mix' was amazing! It is a little sweet but the flavor was addicting. I was actually dipping the tail meat into it (I usually dip it into my own made sauce.) It's the best flavor I've tasted in a really long time. I can see why people love this place! This place is still a big under the radar but if you ask around the Houston Asian community this is the place that always pops up as the best. I can see why this place is popular and heads up, there's a very long line. Tucked in the very corner is a restaurant that has the appearance of a pop up style shop. The hostess were welcoming but the wait can take a while 30-45 minutes and sometimes more with larger group with limited seating. We ordered 2 lbs of crawfish with the tangy sauce and the mix (garlic butter and lemon). Sizes were pretty huge, so you're going to have a smaller number count. I don't recommend the tangy sauce, but the mix definitely makes up for it. We also had the gumbo which was well seasoned. The Cajun fried rice was a bit lack luster with disproportionate amount of too much rice to other ingredients ratio. Overall, good experience and will be back if I'm craving crawfish. read more

FOOD POISONING Beware. This place has gotten really bad lately. I used to dine in with my friends prior to pandemic. This year, I ordered crawfish take out twice with the exact amount of crawfish and flavors. The first time, they were salty and dried but I didn't say anything; and still wanted to give them another try, because of their Thai Basil flavor. The second time, there are more bad crawfish and they were dirty. There were seaweed and dirts in each bag. My family and I didn't eat anything together but just met up for these crawfish, and all of us got food poisoning. When I called the following day, they kept defending themselves with contradictory excuses. Their 1st response was because "you waited too long to pick up," but I have evidence that I parked outside waiting for them as the "ready for pick-up" text notification came and my receipt text were within 5 minutes. Their 2nd response, "we know our process with the cold storage but anything could have happened during the 'wash and cleaning" of the crawfish." The last response was because "you ate after 2hrs", but I drove straight home, just like how I did with the first time, but didn't get food poisoning. I should have asked my friends or read reviews about their dirtiness before buying. A few of my friends confirmed that they also experienced food poisoning from here and stopped coming. read more

The service was pretty mediocre, you could tell that our server didn't want to be there. We asked for bibs and gloves but we never got them. Our server also rarely came around to check up on us. The crawfish was decently big for being in season and the shrimp was medium and large sized. The seasoning on them was delicious ! My go-to place for crawfish! I have to say, this is probably my top two places for delicious garlic butter crawfish! On top of that, Crawfish Cafe also has different flavors that are very delicious. Such as their mix which is a combination of lemon pepper and garlic butter and for me, I normally get the Thai Basil and garlic butter spicy! The Crawfish is always cooked to perfection, never over cooked! They clean so well you don't smell any odors. I also get the seafood platter which is served with two sides of your choosing. I get the shrimp fried rice and the cajun fries. This is okay. I think the shrimp has a weird aftertaste and the oysters breading fall off very easily. You can tell the catfish is Frozen from the lack of juiciness. The fried rice is decent. The fries are fries. Honestly speaking, just come here for a crawfish! If you're looking to try the Viet Cajun craze, this is definitely one those places to get a taste of it. They have a lot of flavor options, and if you're like me and you like your crawfish spicy, they make sure you walk out in tears. We usually go with The Mix, but have been hearing a lot of other good flavor combinations as you're able to mix flavors to your own preference! There is an optimum amount of seating so even when it is busy you'll hardly be waiting. They make sure to supply you with bibs and gloves if you decide to opt for those. Service is great, water refills were delivered promptly and any necessities can easily be taken care of by the staff. We came on a Sunday evening and was surprised by how quickly we were seated but I think we beat the dinner rush because as we were leaving there was a 4-5 person line outside the front of the restaurant. If no one is standing at the hostess area, there is a clipboard that you can write your name on to reserve your spot in line. Crawfish is currently going for $7.99/lb. The most important thing I try to figure out when ordering my crawfish is how spicy should I get it? I'm definitely a spicy loving gal so I recommend the Mix seasoning at the Spicy level which was the perfect amount of spiciness that I can tolerate (a few beads of sweat here and there, some coughing in between sips of ice cold beer) but so worth it. I don't think I would have been to handle the Extra Spicy. Dont forget to add your sausage and corn to your crawfish bag to get the full experience. read more

I came here with friends to satisfy our crawfish craving, and we ordered several things off the menu. The Mix (garlic butter and lemon pepper) flavored crawfish was tasty. Medium spicy was just right for me. Any spicier than that would've been uncomfortable. The size of the crawfish was on the smaller side, which is understandable as it is still early in the season. Crawfish was $8.99 a pound. Cajun fried rice was pretty bland and isn't worth getting. If you've had good fried rice, you won't like. It's pretty plain overall. Fish sauce wings were good but not crispy. Lemon pepper wings were crispy and had good flavor. Hit or miss depending on if it's busy or not. Service was good. We were seated within ten minutes even though it was packed. Servers were attentive and always refilled water/emptied bowls. Personally, I would still come back again but just for the crawfish. Crawfish Café definitely takes the top spot for Asian style crawfish. They have different flavor options but the mix is my personal favorite! I usually make a dipping sauce whenever I eat crawfish, but the sauce the crawfish is drowned in is so flavorful, I just dip the crawfish tails back in the sauce. You can also add on potatoes, corn, sausage, etc and they serve it with your crawfish. If you're not drowning all of these add-ons in the crawfish sauce, you're doing it wrong.
