We noticed the restaurant had many positive reviews, but we also came across several comments regarding the service and payment process. After our visit, I can understand why those concerns were mentioned. We were genuinely excited to support a Lao-owned restaurant, and overall, we enjoyed most of the food. Nam Khao (4/5): Crispy, well-presented, and flavorful. I would have liked a bit more pickled pork, but it was still very enjoyable. Chicken Laab (5/5): A favorite for our family wherever we go, and this version did not disappoint. The kids especially enjoyed it. Jerky & Lao Sausage (5/5): Both were delicious and paired well with their accompanying dipping sauces, which really enhanced the flavors. The jerky had a bit more fat than I prefer, but it was still very good. Egg Rolls (5/5): Crispy and exactly what you'd expect from a well-made egg roll. Papaya Salad with Noodles (5/5): This was one of the highlights of the meal. We requested a medium spice level, and they got it just right. Our dishes arrived without serving utensils, we had to request water refills ourselves, and no one checked on our table during the meal. In addition, all of our dishes were placed on one end of the table next to the baby rather than being distributed where they could be easily shared. If the restaurant is aiming for a street food or fast-casual concept, adjusting the dining experience and expectations accordingly might make more sense. However, if gratuity is collected upfront, I believe the level of service should reflect that. The food was generally very good, and I truly wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, the service overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable meal. I hope the restaurant invests in additional staff training because the food deserves it. I finally made it to Lao'd District and it did not disappoint! I started with the Lao'd Chicken Skins served with sticky rice. The chicken skins were fresh, crispy, and packed with flavor from the house seasoning. The fried basil and garlic took them to another level and added the perfect crunch. To drink, I ordered the Strawberry Mule Cocktail made with strawberry puree, lime juice, mint, fresh strawberries, and their in-house infused sake. It was refreshing, slightly bubbly, and had just the right balance of sweet and tart. For my entrée, I had the Steak Tiger Cry. The picanha steak was tender, juicy, and cooked beautifully with a flavorful fat cap that really enhanced the dish. The sweet and savory lime sauce paired perfectly with the steak, and the steamed rice soaked up all the goodness. One thing I thought was really cool was the contact-free dining experience. Simply scan the QR code, open a tab, order your food, and pay right from your phone. Overall I would say it was a solid but not exceptional experience. I ordered the papaya salad (spicy), which I did thoroughly enjoy. I will absolutely admit that I am not an expert on papaya salads (this only being the second time I've had one), but it came out slightly more room temperature than I think was best for it. The taste and everything else was superb though and all the vegetables tasted fresh! The spice level was perfect for me specifically, any more spicy and I think I would've struggled eating it, and any less I would have been a bit disappointed. Definitely a lot more manageable than most other south East Asian places, so order based on how you feel like your spice tolerance is typically and you should be fine. I wasn't the biggest fan of the interior or the atmosphere in general (which is a bit ironic since they were straight up playing some of my favorite artists) but that could absolutely just be down to personal preference. Service was great, the person who brought our food was extremely receptive and was on top of refilling our waters, but due to how the restaurant works we only had a brief word with a different server when we sat down about how to order when I really wanted to ask for opinions on what to order and how spicy their dishes were. I came here after seeing a tiktok of their lunch specials which is available from 11am - 3pm. When we sat down our server let us know that ordering was all digital and you could just use your phone but of course I believe they have the option of ordering through them as well. I upgraded the lunch special for $4 or 8 extra dollars (can't exactly remember how much the upgrade was) to get the tiger cry steak and my boyfriend upgraded to get the pork belly for $2 extra dollars. The QR menu allows parties to pay as one big bill or split based on what they ordered individually via phone. The lunch portion was decent sized . Was in the Chinatown area and was looking for great Thai food so we stumbled about this restaurant and I will definitely be back!! This is actually Lao x Thai fusion so it was really cool trying a new cuisine. The service is great and super efficient ( you order and pay at table without speaking to server, although they are still very attentive and great at answering any questions). The vibe was great for a friend hangout, or even a casual date night spot. The music selection is great (r&b, rap, pop ... a little bit of everything really). Last but not least, the food was delicious!!! We ordered the tiger steak (100/10) and basil fried rice (7.5/10). Both had great portions (big enough to leave you full if you come hungry) and were very the perfect amount of seasoned. The biggest and only con is the parking situation. I know how many flavors and aromatics go into curry and the heat from Thai peppers have this hint of basil taste normally and this kind of felt like the aromatics of the lemongrass galangal kefir lime leaves was missing and the heat seemed to be more cayenne pepper that Thai pepper Tiger cry is suvide then grilled. I think mine was over grilled so instead of medium it was more like medium well to well done. And I'm use to that chargrilled flavor and it seemed like it was done on a flat top or pan. I will say their price points are a little cheaper than others where a curry here is about $14 and adding beef is $2 additional as where most places are about $4 Tiger cry running at $20.99 All reviews are based on personal preference and taste. these guys are super nice and efficient and the fact that most of their staff are in the back and they make it easy to order from the table rather than having too many servers is how they keep their so reasonable. Came in for a quick lunch with some coworkers and was impressed! Well, first off, I'm visiting from SoCal so my standards for southeast Asian food are fairly high. That said, Lao'd District would easily survive and thrive in my hometown. This place has all the flavors of Lao and Thai food and more importantly THE SPICE. We only ordered medium level spice to cater to the table but I could tell the heat was there. We ordered the green curry, pad thai, nam Khao, crispy glazed pork belly, and papaya salad. Whatever glazed they put on that pork belly, they should bottle and sell separately. It was so complimentary to the crispy pork skin without making it become soggy. The pad thai was a perfectly balance of tangy and slightly sweet. Only giving it 4 stars because the papaya salad came out a little salty but I would come back to give it another shot. Pretty authentic Lao food! I went with my Lao friend and tried a few of his favorite dishes. Overall, he said it was pretty authentic and the portion sizes were really good! I've tried Lao sausage before and found that others were more juicy and spicy, so I did find this one to be a bit lackluster in comparison. - Nam khao (crispy rice) (4.4/5): This was by far my favorite dish. The texture was amazing, it was filled with so many crispy pieces and paired really well with the crunchy lettuce. Flavor wise, I thought it was missing something because I heard it was suppose to be pretty sour and spicy, but after my friend asked for extra lime, it really brightened up the dish and I loved it! DEFINITELY ASK FOR LIME! - Drunken noodles (3.6/5): Pretty solid drunken noodles! I liked how the noodles weren't too broken and the sauce was kinda sweet. You basically just have to order from your table using the QR code, and they bring the food out to you. But when they see you walk in, they do bring water and plates to you. My husband and I are always on the lookout for authentic Lao food, and when we found this place on social media, we were so excited to give it a try. On the drive over, we browsed the menu and were even more thrilled to see so many traditional Lao dishes that you don't usually find elsewhere. The restaurant itself is super clean and modern, with a great ambiance. One small note--the booth seats were a bit lower than the table, so as a shorter person, I had to sit at the end to be more comfortable. The service was quick and friendly. Since it was our first time, the server walked us through the menu and helped explain everything, which we really appreciated. Here's what we ordered: Crab Papaya Salad (Tum Mak Hoong)- The portion was generous, and we loved that it came with *khao poon* (vermicelli noodles), so you could eat it like "Tum Khao Poon". That's something most places don't offer unless it's a separate dish. That said, the flavor was a little mild for our taste, we were hoping for more of that punchy, bold Lao flavor. Tiger Crying Steak (Suea Rong Hai)- This was a hit. Really well-seasoned, tender, and definitely worth ordering again. Lao Sour & Spicy Dipping Sauce (Jeow Som)- We weren't quite sure about this one. It tasted and looked more like a sweet chili sauce, almost like what you'd get with egg rolls. Not sure if it was a different version or a mix-up. Lao Sausage (Sai Gok)- It was just okay for us. A bit dry and lacking the depth of flavor we usually expect from Lao sausage. Sticky Rice (Khao Niew)- Simple but good. We appreciated that it was served in a traditional bamboo holder, which helped keep it warm. Thai Tea Flan- I didn't get a picture of this one, but it was alright. I expected it to be a little softer and jiggly. It had a strong cinnamon note at first, but the aftertaste leaned more toward the sweet, creamy Thai tea flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The place is definitely worth checking out, especially if you're craving dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. A friend recommended Lao'd District. There were plenty of parking as well arrived early (6 pm). Please was not full and had our choice of seats. Staff came over and explained everything can be ordered online via QR code and paying via the app/website as well. We started with the Roti with curry sauce. It was tasty. We also ordered the Lao's sausages. Sausage was well seasoned. The "sauce" is one the spicy side which we liked. It also came with sticky rice that offsets the sausage's spiciness . Definitely worth trying out. We also ordered the drunken noodles and Steak Tiger Cry. Drunken noodles was good... noodles was cooked just right. Tasty as well. The star of the show was the Steak Tiger Cry that our friend recommended and did not disappoint. It is cooked rare. The meat was tender and seasoned well. Good size steak. Never seen this version of birria tacos, but loved it. So flavorful - definitely recommend! Crispy pork belly (4/5) - well prepared but the tiger eye still wins for me. Service is still 5+/5. I asked the waitress about the mocktails and she insisted that I try a sip to see if I'd like it. Really appreciated that because I ended up getting the kiwi cucumber lemonade (4/5), which was unique and refreshing. This is one of my favorite lunch spots! I always order the Tiger Cry Steak every time I come here, and it never disappoints; always cooked the way I like it. I've been really busy recently to go out and eat in person, so I've been ordering a lot of foods to-go or through delivery. I've ordered from Lao'd District so many times so far, and all the foods have turned out so good every time. I really can't wait to eat here in person when I have the chance. So far, my absolute favorites are the Tiger Cry Steak and the Lao'd Sausages. I really think they have the best Tiger Cry Steak out of all the ones I've had so far everywhere else, and the Lao'd Sausages, which come with sticky rice, are perfect. I also really love the Crack Belly and the Mekong Calamari, and both of those always super flavorful. I've also tried the Nam Khao (Crispy Rice), and it was pretty good as well, especially the cured pork that comes with it. I also really love their Thai Tea, which is pretty concentrated and does not taste watered down. I was not a big fan of the Thai Roti Canai; it was just not as fluffy and light as I'd expected it to be, and I've had better elsewhere. Met a friend for lunch and we finally tried Lao'd on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and we took a table by the window. I liked the oversized chairs. Very comfy! The server greeted us immediately and advised to use the QR code on the table which connected you to the Toasttab ordering system. All transactions from ordering to paying are done on the site. Even though the server only brought us water and our food, he still came over to check on us. I ordered the pad Thai and it was some of the best I've had in Houston. The chicken breast wasn't dry, sliced thinly, and the tofu added texture. I can't eat bean sprouts so I was able to add a note to my order. I normally have leftovers but I finished my entire plate! On a blustery winter day after a trip to the dentist, I was craving some spicy foods both to warm myself up and reawaken my taste buds. Taking advantage of lunch time timing to avoid the crowds at Bellaire Food Street, Mom and I hit up Lao'd District for some good eats - here's what we tried: Khao Poon - This beautiful curry noodle soup revived me from the first sip - you can imagine it as somewhere on a spectrum between laksa and khao soi, with a focus on the fresh herbs and cabbage crowning the bowl to add texture and zest to the rich, warm soup base. The portion itself was large enough to feed both of us, but YMMV. Nam Khao - This delightfully crispy and savory dish is well balanced here, encompassing nutty morsels of browned rice, salty specks of sausage, and green herbs. Do note that temperature-wise it is more akin to a salad than a fried rice - the the lettuce leaves to wrap up spoonfuls of the rice, then chow down! Papaya salad - A side portion of papaya salad accompanies all lunch specials, balancing heavier meat dishes with much needed fiber and acidity. I loved the sweet, tangy dressing and the sharp crunch of green papaya, though a customization choice to up the spiciness would be nice. Thai Cafe - Similar to cà phê sữa dá, this delectably sweet and highly caffeinated beverage is a smooth yet bold salve to any spice you might encounter during your meal. It also comes with your lunch special! Ordering is quite efficient through the QR code on each table, but don't sleep on the service staff here - we were frequently attended to with drinks, napkins, and to-go containers as we needed. In a city with a glut of great Southeast Asian restaurants, I'm proud of Lao'd for staying true and standing out - I'm already looking forward to my next visit so I can try the khao piak sen, "curria" tacos, and sticky basil fried rice! read more

My friend and I tried going to mensho on Sunday for lunch but we didn't realize that they only open for dinner lol. She recommended we go to Lao'd district instead. Ordering here may be confusing but there is a QR code on the table and you order from your phone. We got the tiger cry, red curry, lao'd jerky, and roti canai. I originally wasn't going to get the tiger cry but then I saw that it was a sous vide picanha cut steak. I remembered how good picanha was at Brazilian steakhouses and just had to try it. It was soo soo tender and if you like fatty pieces of meat as well then this is for you. It comes with a sweet and savory like sauce that adds a little tang to the steak. My friend really liked their green curry but they were sold out of it so we got the red curry instead. It was made with bell peppers, coconut milk, onions, Thai basil bamboo shoots, and chicken. It had a good coconut flavor and goes so well with the rice. At first I thought the slice wasn't that bad but then it eventually hit me and was lingering as well. The laod jerky came with jeow bong sauce and sticky rice. The jerky was tender and sweet and savory. The jeow bong sauce didn't taste like what I expected, it is a spicy and sweet tamarind sauce but I didn't think it was that spicy. The roti canai was pretty solid as well. The roti wasn't as flaky as others I've had but it was solid and the house red curry sauce it came with was Soo Soo good, I loved the coconut flavor. read more

I was excited to see a lao restaurant in Houston! However, it wasn't that good. Not like what I grew up on. The server was nice. I did not see any Laos people at all in the restaurant. We shared the Laos chicken noodle soup lacking depth and chicken flavor. The papaya salad was fresh and good. But the Laos sausage so so. I was expecting more and bold flavors like moms.
