Nice campground, make sure to make reservations in advance since it gets busy in the summer. Campsite I got was a basic one, it was clean, equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. It was close to the road so we heard cars at night, but it wasn't a huge bother for my party. Bathrooms were fairly clean, it was a little wet from the showers but there was an effort to keep things dry. The dish washing station was nice, there was an actual sink with dish soap for use! The campstore was pricey (as would be expected), do try to get everything you need before you arrive. There are a lot of fees so make sure you read the details for when you book (e.g., change fee, late arrival fee, extra people, etc). Riverbed was pretty dry when we were there, but the views of the surrounding mountains were beautiful. read more

They have a curfew? & if you miss that curfew, they expect you to sleep in your car on a deserted highway, bc they won't open the gates past 10, & you're not allowed to sleep in their parking lot. That is absolutely bizarre. They have 1 bathhouse that you have to pay for that's a hike from your site. Zero service for miles. The whole place is ran by annoyed teenagers, there's not an adult or manager in sight. It was like I asked for his arm when questioning how to get to our site. Not sure if adults even exist? Really liked how there was bathrooms and showers, and a store located at the store. However, we didn't have a great experience. We stayed at a campsite in which there was a ground dwelling bee hive, our whole site was covered in swarming bees. I got stung one and my little kids (ages 4&5) got stung a total of four times. We ending up having to pack up early because it wasn't safe. I called the next morning (spoke to two different people) and explained how I wasn't upset because I understand things happen and I wasn't expecting money back or anything but I wanted to alert them before another family stays there. All I got was "it was taken care of" no apologies or even a word in which they asked is my little ones were okay. I am very disappointed in their customer service. I would stay somewhere else. This was my kids first camping experience and we ended up having to pack up and drive home (3hours) at 1000 at night because we couldn't find anywhere else to stay. Nestled in the heart of the White Mountains, this campground offers peace and easy access to area hikes and attractions. Important disclaimer: there is absolutely no cellular service. I repeat! No service whatsoever. But this is what helps to bring peace to the experience. You are left to be one with those you're with and the beautiful wilderness around you. We are a tent camping family who love to cook over the fire. Tent sites here are big, come with a picnic table and fire ring. Most sites have a carry-in feel, with your car parked 100-200 feet away. Some sites are along the Saco river. There are a few small cabins, but they sit close to the main road. A few Yurts also sprinkle the campground. Most are tent sites with no electricity and no on-site water. There are various water stations placed throughout the campground and a bath house with hot showers near the entrance of the property (.50 per 4 minutes). I only wish the water stations were equipped with hot water. The General store comes with friendly locals to point you in the direction of a good hike, and a hefty friendly cat to greet you at the door with a meow. There's wood, food, maps, and all the camping essentials. Now, it you're a "glamping" kind of person, or someone who can't stand to go without a shower for a day, or can't use a chemical toilet, this probably isn't for you (nor would camping be). But if you're looking for a camping experience, a way to enjoy family and friends, and a way to live the White Mountain experience, I dare you to stop in. 30 minutes to Mt. Washington Auto Road, 15 minutes from Story Land, 30 minutes to Conway. read more

The campground is well maintained and the sites are sufficiently spacious to give a feeling of being alone in the woods camping. We've come to Crawford Notch Campground two different times to camp and we've had two completely different experiences. Our first time (summer 2017): We had an amazing campsite by the water that allowed our kids to tube down the river and for a beautiful family walk. We had a really fabulous two night stay. That stay would get this campground four stars. Our second time (summer 2018): We had a campsite near the water, but the river seemed to be nonexistent. We had to search for it and still could not find it. Additionally, this time our campsite was much closer to a family who was camped out for what looks like a week or more with very little kids. The kids weren't even the problem. It was the Dad who was chopping wood at 4am while the rest of the campground was attempting to sleep. This stay would get two stars which is why I am giving 3 stars. The showers and bathrooms were clean. They can be a bit of a hike from your campsite, so you may have to use smelly porta potties that are much closer to your campsite. The General Store has your basic camping needs. It's obviously more expensive then if your bring your own things. You will need to go in here to check in and out our your site. All in all, this campground gets the job done especially for relatively cheap in the White mountains. It's conveniently located near many trails and in which you can access by car. read more

I've never been to this store or it's campground before yesterday . where I was driving home alone with 4 young children from a day at storyland theme park. not knowing the area and practically in the middle of nowhere my 4 and 7 year old announced they urgently needed to use the bathroom ((both girls)) I quickly drive another 2 or 3 miles and finally find a building saying Crawford General store and pull in . my girls are now bouncing and about to have an accident. I open the door and politely ask the man working the register (while having 2 golrs next to me holding themselves ) if the have a bathroom just the 2 girls could use quickly. he looked me in the eye and said we have a bathroom but it's not for public use . good luck. with a straight face and a rude tone . SERIOUSLY?! they a LITTLE FREAKING KIDS ... what kind of "family friendly family owned" business is this . Loved the hiking trails to the active beaver damn and the views front the back sites. If your looking for hookups just know you will be along the road and will hear the trucks and such at night. Don't waste your money. I grew up camping here for over 20 years. I loved it so much I moved my family up from RI and own a house in the white mountains. Very clean campground. We had site #54 and highly recommend it. It's located towards the back and we had a ton of privacy with a view of the creek and some mountains. Make sure to get the confirmation email of your reservation as I had called to make the reservation and they didn't actually process my reservation. It was very easily fixed as I emailed them within a day of not receiving the reservation but could've been bad if I wasn't on top of things. read more

Owners (who are the managers) are rude, deceiving, and gestapo like in burdonsome rules (makes more money for them thru "fines".) Don't stay with them. They will squeeze your pocketbook/wallet dry. I'm not an experienced camper. I typically take day hikes in NH and return home to Boston but decided do an overnighter with my teenage nephew. Picked this place for its location being close to where I wanted hike and because it had river running through it. It didn't disappoint. We went midweek and early in the season so there not many campers. We had our pick of sited (even though we had a specific site reserved staff said no problem moving) we picked a great site along a dry river bed that was beautiful. The staff was friendly and the store was stocked with all the essentials. Definitely go back again. read more

We won't be returning here due to the extremely aggressive and rude night security guy who patrols on a golf cart and verbally abuses anyone he suspects of breaking their rules. When we first arrived we got in late, having to drive in from Boston, and arrived around 10pm. Some friends of ours had reserved a site and made sure to notify the office (and pay) for the additional cars/adults/dog. (Oh yeah. They charge for EVERYTHING extra. It's not cheap.) Our friends met us at the gate, buzzed our car in with their card and told us to drive to the site, and they would walk back. Aggressive security guy followed us the whole way in his golf cart and when we pulled into the site he immediately approached me and demanded to see my "card or paperwork." When I told him that we were staying at a friend's site, but that they had paid he demanded to know "where they were, if you're friends, they should be here." I explained they had let us in and were walking back. He cut me off and said loudly, "I'm going to check the paperwork and if it's not in order I'm kicking you out." At this point I got defensive and basically told him that "our friends are going to be here in a few minutes and you can talk to them, but I'm not leaving." And I set up my tent. He talked to the friends when they arrived and immediately left. The second time was at 10:02 at night while we were all playing a word game and drinking around the campfire. Were we being too loud? Probably, for a family place and a private campground, we may have been a bit too noisy. But all it would have taken was a calm "hey can you keep it down?" and we would have all gone on with our night. Security guy stormed into the site and immediately started YELLING at us and telling us to quiet down. One of the women we were with tried to say, "We're really sorry!" and he cut her off with, "NO I get to finish what I'm saying FIRST. I heard you (he points to another woman) specifically saying the 'f-word.' This is your first warning, you have two more and then I'm kicking you out of here." Then he stormed off before any of us could respond. So no, we won't be going back. For the money that they're charging I'd like to not have to deal with an overly eager security guard (who called himself "loss prevention") who appears to enjoy yelling and scolding full grown adults like children. read more

This was the first campground I looked at when I was deciding where to go this June. After reading all of the horrible reviews- I decided to look elsewhere (about 20 other places). I read about the crazy security guard, rude staff and awful road noise. Yes- I was REALLY deterred, at first, but decided that this was the most ideal location for what we wanted to do up there. So! We went with few expectations and knowledge of others' experiences. Ours goes as follows: Upon arrival, we were greeted by a kind gentleman by the name of Doug and a rather unpleasant woman (who realllllly has no business in any sort of customer service position). We got there at 11:30 and were rudely told by the woman that check-in wasn't until 1 (woosahhhhh.... I was already warned about her so I just brushed her off). Doug gave us a TON of options on what we could do in the meantime. After a nice, long hike we checked in to site 47a. I was absolutely surprised at how amazing this campground was!! Our huge tent site was fairly secluded and surrounded by trees. You could hear the river, which lulled us to sleep in the evenings, in the background. The only thing that I was a tiny bit put off by was that you had to park and then walk about 40 feet to the site BUT they do supply a dolly to cart your stuff in. In reality, after settling in, we realized the hassle was worth not being close to the main path. We never saw any crazy old guy on a cart (and we were kind of carrying on, drinking and playing games until around 11). One thing I can't stress enough to anyone looking to stay here is LOOK AT THE SITE MAP!!! Some sites are just 30 feet from the main road and you can hear every.single.truck. I wouldn't even recommend getting any cabin here bc all of them are roadside. NOT relaxing. On our site- we barely heard anything, so stay as close to the river as possible! Again- cannot stress this enough. So. The pros: 1) spacious, fairly secluded, large sites that were well cleaned 2) the river and scenery were amazing! Great place to bring the kids and dogs 3) close to great hikes and natural attractions 4)Doug :-) 5) the General Store had all the camping essentials plus beer and wine (yes. This is essential, lol) at a fairly decent price (considering you're on vacation where the nearest store is 20 mins away). Cons: 1) the price was pretty steep for camping 2) one bathhouse. REALLY?! 3) some sites and all cabins/yurts are wayyyy too close to the road 4) THE GATE IS CLOSED FROM 11-7am!! This is HUGE if you are trying to do a moose tour or need to leave the campground for any reason. Good luck walking to your site at midnight on the other end of the grounds after a long day 5) the lady at the front desk. What a grouch! read more

They have everything from s'mores supplies and campfire story books to souvenirs, alcohol, food, camping supplies etc. The prices aren't bad and the man working was nice. This review would be much better as the campground was beautiful and we enjoyed our stay. However, I was nearly assaulted by a very angry man driving a golf cart. We were leaving our site in a bit of a rush and were exceeding the campground speed limit. I was accosted by a large, screaming man who proceeded to berate me(for what at first, I was unaware). He eventually told me(in the most offensive, roundabout way possible) that I was speeding, which of course I shouldn't have been. A simple warning would have sufficed. I then went to give back my parking ticket and gate key. At that point I saw the man again and he jumped off his cart, charged at me and again began screaming in my face. I was almost sure there would be violence soon to come, but luckily his superiors came out of the office and he got back on his cart and drove away. This left a very sour taste in my mouth about this place, knowing they have people working there who are ready to go postal on you at your first mistake. If you camp here, don't speed~ it might be the death of you!! read more

We just recently spent two nights tenting here. Originally I was put off by the price they were charging. I felt it was a little expensive for a tent site. The check in process was quick and easy. I was happy to see there was a small but well stocked store in case I forgot anything important. It also had coffee which is a huge plus. We were given our gate key and then were off to find the site. Our site was at the very back of the campground in the 80's. I was surprised to see that the site had been raked and the fire pit was dug out. I have never been to a campground that rakes and digs the coals out after the previous visit. The site was huge fitting a 5 person tent, a 2 person tent, and a picnic table screen house with plenty of room to spare. There was well water and a chem toilet a few sites down. The bath house was far from our site but we knew that and didn't choose this place based on the bath house. We did use the showers and were pretty happy with it. The men's side had 3 showers and I assume the ladies side had this as well. The water was hot but was .50 cents for 4 minutes. Standard rate I suppose. They were pretty clean, about what you would expect from campground showers. The staff was friendly and they helped us out with finding a good hike that was not going to be packed with a lot of people. They were happy to address some concerns that we had regarding price structure and a discrepancy. We were told that it was going to be a little cheaper than it was and they gave us a credit with little to no fuss. I wanted to give this place 5 stars but I took one away for the following reasons: 1. Their price structure is a little harsh. You can have 4 people on a site as long as that is 2 adults and 2 kids. If you want 4 adults you are being charged extra. $10 an adult. 2. With those extra adults comes an extra car sometimes. Well there is another $10 a night. 3. This and another section of the grounds is rather close to 302. There were a few times at night that loud logging trucks went blasting by. I would suggest requesting a site near the interior of the grounds by the Sacco. For the location you really can't beat it. Just expect to pay a little more than you should for a tent site. read more

I've had a lot of firsts at Crawford Notch Campground: First time camping; First time in bear country; First panic attack (what? it was dark, and did I mention they said "bears"?) Crawford Notch Campground is totally safe and beautifully situated. If you get the right site, you can have blissful privacy. The bathhouse is as clean as a bathhouse can get. This last time we went, we rented a cabin. Ya know what? I loved it. Happy medium from my cozy bedroom and sleeping al fresco. This campground lets me have my "Wilderness Girl" style camping, and my more experienced friends can rent a tent site nearby. Best of both worlds. I look forward to "roughing it" for many happy summers to come. read more

This is a beautiful campground for families with young children or elderly. After being warned twice by the security guard we went to bed. Been camping at Crawford Notch for years. Love the place! Our most recent stay was in late July. The camp sites are clean and spaced well apart. Quiet time after 10pm keeps the noise down well. Only complaints are the bathrooms and showers. They are old and need to be updated. Two of the men's showers and some of the women's were inoperable during our stay. My wife had to take a shower in the men's area during one of the nights. Hoping this is not an issue next year when we return. read more

Awesome campground and a regular visitor for over 25yrs. I've gone through a few owners. Maybe the pandemic has changed a few things but this year was odd. We were leaving on a Monday and a strong storm came through the night and the morning was a mess. We packed up as fast as possible but was late getting out of the site. We always leave the site better than we came in. We were still charged a half day. I understand that policy is policy but the store and restrooms were also not up to par as before and we didn't make a fuss. The general store has just about any camping essential you may have forgotten: grill tools, pans, tarps, beer/wine as well as a variety of food and clothing. The staff is friendly. The campsites I've stayed at are large and relatively private. They're all sandy soil rather than grass, so adding rain = mud. We've never had a problem with other unruly campers at night, and even in the day it's generally quiet. I haven't tried the cabins, in part because they are so close to the road (Rt 302). Bathrooms for most sites are chem toilets. There is a main shower/bathhouse but from most sites it's too far a walk. If you need a regular bathroom close by you might want to try a hotel. For camping the facilities are more than adequate. Limited swimming in the Saco River is available, depending on the water level. The campground is a short distance from good hiking in the Crawford Notch State Park, for instance Arethusa Falls or Frankenstein Cliff, and North Conway is about 20 miles away. FYI: No cell service. Whether that's good or bad is for you to decide. read more

Eh! We use this campground as a central meeting place. Unfortunately there are no other campgrounds nearby with any showers/toilets of any kind. The rangers were trapping a family of bears when we were there and yelled at us for walking around with our leashed dog. This place is so insanely expensive and you are on a patch of dirt. The Sacco river is VERY shallow and the port-o-potties are straight Festival nasty. NASTY!!!! People at the front desk are incredibly rude, and As stated in some other comments there are patrollers driving around at all hours yelling at anyone playing music or drinking beer. They do not pester the families with screaming children. Who in our case were making far more noise than the 2 of us. There was no warning to campers that they were trapping bears in the park so a lot of people were shocked that these creatures were actually being lured in. The only good thing about this place is that it is the only place. Someone with customer service should open a campground!! read more

I've really enjoyed the two times I camped here. The first time was in a cabin and we did experience a bear on our porch the very first night! They aren't kidding when they say you are in bear country. We were at Cabin 3 which is right by the bathrooms and very convenient. I went again this past 4th of July weekend and decided to do a tent site this time. Here are a few cons/prost: 1.Patrolling of the security guard. CON They went up and down making sure everyone was quiet starting at ten. I don't see this as a very kid-friendly campground since there is no play area so I was hoping to just be left alone - it was a HOLIDAY weekend! So I wish we could have lived a little past 10 instead of feeling like we were being monitored. 2. Bathrooms. CON Okay so the bathrooms are nice. But there is only one real bathroom and the rest are Port-A-Pottys which I wasn't expecting. It's a good-size campground so if you aren't near the actual bathrooms then you either walk or use a port-a-potty. They were as bad as you expect a port-a-potty to be. BUT at least they have water spouts nearby to wash your hands afterward 3.Scenery PRO Sites are generally pretty private. Most aren't on top of each other except most of the cabins and the water/electric sites. The swimming hole is a nice (but beware, rocky - bring proper footware) place to swim & we enjoyed going down the stream in our raft. (Time of year depends on height of river) 4.Staff & Store PRO They were very flexible with scheduling (I wasn't sure how many people/dogs or cars I was bringing). I had no problems at check-in accept just clarifying who had decided to come. The store was clean and offered necessary items as well as touristy things. All in all I would definitely go again - I'd pick a private site closer to the bathrooms and get my drinking done earlier in the night! (that isn't preferred but somehow I don't think they'll let up on the patrolling) read more

Had an amazing weekend here. Not sure what some of the other reviews are talking about regarding rude owners and "the guy on the golf cart" but I never had any issues. The women at the office were beyond nice and helpful including pointing us in the right direction when we wanted to find a place to get a fishing license. Only saw golf cart guy once. Also had some rowdy neighbors a couple sites down, they were spoken to but never thrown out. The sites are beautifully maintained. And there are plenty of port-a-pottys located throughout the tenting area. The general store has everything you could imagine you forgot. Saved us when we forgot the can opener. Also sell beer wine and food and souvenirs. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is I wish there was a flush toilet located deeper in the tenting area. Makes for a long walk if you don't want to use the chemical toilets. read more

As stated in other posts, stay away from getting a site that is close to the road unless you like truck noise. Waterfront sites the way to go, pay the extra $ for them. If you're looking for constant traffic within a campground (everyone dressed in hiking gear but driving to the bathroom/dumpsters), horrendously disgusting bathrooms, a man on a golf cart who looks for reason to come into your site to tell you you're breaking one of the many ridiculous rules they have and being charged $6 a bundle for wet wood, this is the place for you. We decided to leave on July 4th rather then spend another night of feeling like we were at a kids summer camp. There are many other campground in the area don't put yourself through the frustration on this side show. read more

The owners are the most disrespectful people we've ever encountered. We were told by the owner herself that we could just come for two nights at our site (apparently those two nights fit between two other reservations) when we made reservations, but they charged us for three when we left. When we offered to play the voicemail for her which proved that she told us that we would only be charged for the two nights, she refused to listen, and actually threatened to call the police (!!!) if we didn't just pay for the extra night and leave. She even insulted our friends who had cancelled their reservation a couple weeks before due to a death in the family). She even had a man threaten my husband, pulling back his fist, telling us to get the f*** out. All over a $48 night that they made us pay for that we were not supposed to. Even if you get lucky and don't have reason to deal with the owner, you'll have to deal with: The bathrooms are unacceptably very far from all of the nicer sites; if you want a convenient bathroom you have to "camp" right along the highway, with all the noise that brings. The sites are not near the parking, often, so you have to shlep your stuff to the site. There is no electricity at the campsites, so if you need to charge something, or use a CPAP, or inflate anything, you're out of luck. You will be LOCKED OUT of the campground for the night if you happen to be out too late (say dinner and a late movie), and there is no way to get in until the next morning! There are incredibly rude people on golf carts going through and policing loudly. Bottom line...there are plenty of other beautiful places in New Hampshire to camp and really enjoy yourself. Stay clear of this one. read more

After booking and paying in advance for a campsite, was told we would not be allowed in after 10 PM (no mention on the website). Had to get a hotel over an hour away, and was not refunded a single cent. The man told us over the phone we might as well set up on the side of the road, because he won't let us in. When we arrived the next morning, it was a hassle to register a second vehicle to the site. The man behind the counter made it clear he did not want to be there. We were repeatedly approached by staff members while just sitting around the fire. You can't make any noise after 10PM. Never will return to this campsite, and am going to post a poor review anywhere I can! Not at all worth the money. read more

Stayed at Crawford Notch Campground Labor Day weekend 2017. Came in around noon knowing I was an hour early to check in. After reading reviews about the lady at the counter I was sure to tread very lightly. We did all the paperwork ahead of time, went down the street to the Willey house for an hour and came back just after 1pm, picked up our card key and went to our site. It was large, clean and the fire pits were very nice. We were at site 56. We're seasoned campers and usually camp at bare bones sites like the ones on the Kank. So the sites we're used to only have a hole in the ground for a toilet, a fire ring and a picnic table. Having nice, clean bathrooms, pay showers at the main bathhouse and clean porta-potties throughout was a treat for us. The bathrooms close from 12 to 2 every afternoon for cleaning. The porta-potties were clean when we arrived on Friday but were beginning to stink by Monday - still, they are a convenience. I will echo some of the other reviews I have seen. Pay very close attention to check in and check out. Late fees apply. You can leave the grounds at any time. There is automatic gate that opens when you leave. You may NOT enter after 10pm or prior to 7am. Staff I spoke to were friendly. There are extra fees for dogs, extra cars, peak days, premium sites, etc. The general store has a little of everything so you won't need to worry about that one item you forgot. My girls are 10 and 12 and it was great to be able to give them some independence and ride around the campgrounds or go to the store for some candy or soda. Very safe feeling. If you are looking for peace and quiet do NOT BOOK a cabin or any of the sites near the road. There IS road noise and those sites are tightly packed in right near the dumpsters and bathhouse and store. If you're looking for a livelier more community, "campy" atmosphere, go for it. If you want a totally different camping experience from that, meaning closer to nature, the Saco, limited road noise and more space then you want to book out near the river or close to it. The grounds themselves are very conveniently located near many great natural sites, local hikes and day trips. Overall we were extremely pleased with our experience and will definately be booking again. This time ON the river! read more

I did not like this campground at all my wife and i paid 180 dollars for a site that had waterfront and electricity we got neither them knowing that it wasn't a waterfront didn't so much as offer a discount on the site. Then i wanted to shower which is coin operated but they have no change machine then you ask security petrol if they have 4 quarters for a dollar he looked at me and very rudely told me he has nothing for me. If i could give it a 0 star rating i would i will not recommend this campground to anyone its not worth the money read more

I'd been going to Crawford Notch Campground since 1995 and had developed a friendly relationship with all previous owners; until the current owners. Me and a slew of other guys camp every fall...October...it's cold, it's typically rainy and not generally a time when other, less hardy campers come out. We do drink plenty and always reserve the most remote camp site possible so as not to bother other campers. The previous owners knew this, as did the current owners, since we're very upfront about our raucous antics and don't want to sour the relationship. Last year, we were actually less rowdy than normal, just sitting around the campfire telling stories and listening to music. A gentleman in a 4-wheeler stopped by and asked us to turn down the music, which we promptly complied. I subsequently walked half-way to the nearest camp site to check on the sound level, and nothing could be heard but the occasional laugh...certainly no music. When attempting to reserve for the same time of year and similar remote site, I received a response from the owners that, "...due to events that occurred during your 2013 stay with us, we are not accepting your reservation request. We expect all of our guests to abide by our rules and policies while staying at our campground." Since, apparently, a bunch of old women with a keep off my grass attitude have descended upon our annual haunt, we will no longer spend our money either at the campground, nor at the store, which was never inexpensive. I'm quite saddened by this development, and hope that with time, they too will move on down the road. read more
