What happened to Cream & Sugar? This used to be one of our favorite cafés in La Mirada. The food was good, the atmosphere was welcoming, and it actually felt like a cool little local café. Now the whole place feels completely different. Did it get new owners or new management? Because walking in now has this weird family-owned liquor-store-with-a-coffee-machine vibe. Everyone seems new, and even the barista was sitting there eating behind the cashier. We ordered the Everything Croissant and the C&S Grilled Cheese, and both were honestly terrible. Absolutely no flavor. The Everything Croissant is supposed to have eggs, onion, bell pepper, cheese, tomato, house spread and avocado, but somehow the whole thing still tasted like nothing. The C&S Grilled Cheese was even more disappointing. Their menu specifically says it comes with soy chorizo, spinach, bacon, cheddar and spicy buffalo cheese. There was absolutely NO soy chorizo in ours. That used to be one of the things that gave the sandwich its flavor. Instead, what we got looked thrown together and tasted nothing like what we remembered. And several things we used to like are gone from the menu altogether. It had been a while since my last visit -- and I was pleasantly surprised by how much the place has changed. The interior looks great, and the new ordering process with the self-service kiosk is super smooth. You just order, grab a seat, and wait to be called. We ordered the Bagel Breakfast Sandwich, Everything Croissant, Honey Cream Cold Brew, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie. I was tempted to try the coffee because it looked so good but decided to stick with the smoothie. Funny enough, while sitting down, one of the staff (possibly the owner) mentioned how great it is to add a cold brew shot to the smoothie. A few moments later, he came out and actually brought one over on the house -- such a kind gesture, and it made the smoothie even better. So more expensive than Starbucks but I like supporting local businesses. This place is in the middle of La mirada residential area and right as the commercial stores start there's BIOLA near by and I think that's who they want as customers the BIOLA students. Now the bad! 1. NO CASH! - like my kid says "it's the big '25 get with the times" I guess. But it's probably because... 2. You have to order on a kiosk! I guess this allows for the staff there to stay in the back preparing an avocado toast and the Spanish latte. And management has one less employee to pay to take orders. He was educating them about some coffee bean stuff and employees were asking questions and in the end, I saw the same employee educating what he learned to a customer and talking about some coffee stuff to them. I came to help a friend study at this cafe on a Tuesday afternoon since it was halfway between both of us. Located in a huge parking lot, this place opens everyday at 7:30AM and closes everyday at 3:00PM so definitely no late night studies for this place :P There's only about 4 big tables that you can sit at where there are nearby outlets as well. If only they had a few single seaters for those solo studiers then it would be nice. I ordered a Dirty Thai Milk Tea w/ 1 shot of espresso and a Everything Croissant w/ turkey which came out to be about $18...which is quite pricey imo. The drink was strong and a little bit on the sweeter side, but the croissant was pretty good but not worth ~$10 lol You can either order at the cash register or the tablet they have and once your order is done they will call your name to have you come get your order at the front. I ordered a vanilla latte and a monte cristo panini. The latte was okay. The sweet vanilla was in nice contrast to the bitterness of the espresso but the flavor of whatever beans they were using was not my favorite. I enjoyed their panini version of a monte cristo. The slices of deli turkey, ham and melted cheese along with a thin layer of strawberry jam had the flavors of a true monte cristo. They even sprinkled some powdered sugar on top. Service was pleasant but incredibly slow. Remember how you could play a DVD frame-by-frame, even slower than slow motion? Yeah, slow like that. Just got back from having my usual breakfast sandwich that contains the chorizo and eggs and bacon and spinach. It was a little disappointing to say the least. The tiny bit of chorizo it does have is folded into the eggs, you cant even notice it. Also, the bacon is paper thin. The bread is different than they used to use and it's still pressed panini style, but it basically wasn't pressed long enough. The strange thing is, I could taste something sweet in the sandwich but had no idea where it came from. Almost like sugar was sprinkled in. I don't need unnecessary Sugar in my diet! I'd rather have a cookie! The worst thing was getting what i thought was a fresh squeezed green juice. Should be fairly healthy when it contains kale, cucumber, celery and apple juice, right? Well it turns out when i get there to pick up my order, there was 1/4-1/3 of the cup filled with green juice. She then took the MOTTS Apple juice container out of the refrigerator and poured it in until the cup was 3/4 filled. Then the rest is ice! I never knew that's how they made it. Never again will I order that one. If i wanted all that sugar, I would've just gotten a fruit smoothie. Sorry to say that juice and sandwich will be out of our breakfast rotation.
