If you need crafting supplies this is the best place on the island. That being said I can spend hours and hundreds of dollars here. There is so much different things packed into this one small store. If i need something specifically I just wait patiently and ask one of the sisters or their workers, though i find it best to just ask one of the sisters. All of the workers are friendly and patient especially when you need multiple different things that you need to make stuff to restock your booth for an upcoming craft fair. read more

What an experience! Cute shop, so much to look at. I did feel overwhelmed because there was so much to look at and I didn't want to miss anything, so I suggest going in with a purpose or knowing what you're looking for. There were beads, charms, things to make leis, materials for purse leis and key chains, materials for charm pens, decal stickers of all sizes, materials for jewelry making, crafts, things for each season/ occasion. You name it, they probably got it. Prices are decent. I bought 2 packets of bead flowers, 2 packets of circle key chain hooks, 1 pack of clay flowers, 1 packet of gummy bear charms, and a few individual charms for $50. There's a parking lot in the back. A well stocked craft store! Thank you Yelp Elite Irene M. for the recommendation! I spent over an hour here just checking out everything they had to offer! It was pretty busy for a weekday mid morning. The aisles are narrow to wide. So many DIY options available. It's graduation season so I think that's why it's so busy. I looked at all the charms and bead options. The prices are reasonable to pricey. I picked up a couple beads for my bag charms. The ladies here are nice and they kindly asked me several times if I had any questions or needed help. Service is 5 stars here. I have simple ideas that I would like to work into reality. For example, I need to make party favors for my friend's son's wedding rehearsal dinner. I volunteered because it's not the main event and I would like to contribute something memorable. I just need some ribbon, but "eucalyptus" color. I first tried a different store, but it was closed. My friend, Irene M., said to go to Creations By You... excellent suggestion... she's ALWAYS right! Such a smart gal! Creations By You has a free parking lot - enter from Liliha Street. Inside, there are rows and rows of beads, charms, ribbon, etc. I even saw some jewelry and clearance items! I'll have to return! Just look for the vibrant pink building and you're here a very inspiring place where even with your vision it can be a slight blur at times so I come here to see how I'm able to match what I have in mind to see the incredible variety of items that at times has me shifting in a totally different direction with the convenience of various kits I just love how the create the fun ideas to make the creations by you and at a great price. On this visit I knew exactly what I wanted just needed to find it and knowing that they have a wall of seed beads I knew that it was a matter of preferences as my indecisiveness can get me thinking twice but I easily found what I wanted which all turned out perfect as finding it all in one unique place made it an easy idea that I had procrastinated turned into a finished project. This is a great little shop--the bead selection is good and they have lots of findings. I've always gotten what I needed. Unfortunately, I stopped shopping there because one of the owners/workers was consistently rude and cold to me while simultaneously being friendly to the other customers. I was willing to deal with it for a while, but after about ten visits of this, I'm going back to Etsy. It's a bummer because I like supporting small local businesses. Anyway, go check them out. Located on the corner of Liliha St and Kuakini St., there's a tiny parking lot just past the building on Liliha St. Parking is free. Not open on Saturdays. Still the best place to come for beads, charms and now, cabochons & silicones for pen making. I hadn't been here in years and was pleasantly surprised how much the store changed. You can still get the silver charms and beads, and components to make your own jewelry. I cane in for the holiday charm earring kits. They put the components for making a pair of earrings (minus the posts) into a do it yourself kit. Great Christmas gift. CBY is the party invitation and favor headquarters. They have been for many years. The owner ladies are so talented and creative, and are so helpful in getting on started on a craft project. They will make suggestions of styles and color schemes and components to use. They love helping the youngsters, too. A very warm and homey, family run craft supply store. The last of a dying breed. Super cute crafts store on the corner on Liliha street. I was always curious when passing this little gem. Eventually I got engaged and was searching for invitation craft stores. My grandma and son accompanied me on my wedding shopping sprees as I had planned to personally DIY wedding decor and what not. The ladies were sweet and sat me down to go over what I had envisioned as a walk in. Didn't know what I was getting myself into but they were able to price estimate what it would cost for the amount of guests I would be inviting. Sad to say, but I did not go with this vendor as my choice of invitations however I did get most of my crafts from them. They had a Hawaiian woven type of box I used for my card collector on my registration table, along with ribbons I used for my cascade type of bouquet. A sweet coworker/friend of mines randomly surprised me with a gorgeous beaded bracelet. She then told me that she got her beads from this place and I was appalled that I hadn't typed a review for them by now! As a little girl I had always been a collector of beads and would sell them as well, but I never had such shiny chunky beads like this before! read more

The reason I stopped by here was to pick up a gift for a friend before an appt. I was in a rush so I didn't get to explore any of the store. When I walked it I noticed beads all over the place. However, it might not be the inky thing they sell. I bee-lined for the mask holders. Think of old lady chain reading glasses but not. LOL. This mask holder clips to your top (blouse or jacket) and a hook in the other end is for you mask. This prevents you from removing you mask and laying it on a table, etc. While I wanted to look around but I had to leave. While I was paying I learned I could come back and take one of the kits and stay there and they will help you create item with the kit and they will teach you. This is great for me since I don't have tools and I didn't want to buy tools when I was making only one thing. What a great service to have. I'm definitely coming back since I want to get a few more for friends. I don't particularly want to buy the tools since beading isn't my thing. What a great activity to do with a friend, daughter, 9r goddaughter. They do have parking available which is convenient because the area itself has limited parking. Looking all over town for Mickey Mouse and Friends customized 3rd birthday invitations was a challenge! The stores had the tacky fill-in-the-blank invitations, and it didn't help that Mickey and Friends are copyrighted, so the choices were very limited. My party coordinator, Tessa Gomes of Fred and Kate Events, referred me to Creations By You (CBY). Opened in Jan. 1989, CBY is family-owned by two sisters, Val Hirata and Debbie Chaiprakorb, who saw a need for customized wedding, accessory, and jewelry store in Honolulu. The two sisters are color and texture specialists skilled in handling your ideas with the latest trends, design, and colors for unique and memorable "creations by you." They carry wedding and party supplies (invitations, favors, guest books, flower girl baskets, ring bearer pillows, silk flowers, ribbons, bridal accessories) and craft supplies (beads, fabrics, Swarovski crystals, glues, tools). Their knowledgeable and creative staff are able create elegant and unique things based on any ideas that you many have. Debbie's expertise is wedding planning and designing invitations, and Val's expertise is designing jewelry. Wedding planning connects their expertise, as their store has wedding jewelry (customized hairpieces, necklaces, and accessories); a wide variety of papers and envelopes in different colors, textures, and thicknesses; and customized favors/centerpieces that can enhance any celebration. These items can be purchased online; however, one cannot be sure exactly what it is until you actually see them, as you would from CBY. Now getting back to customized invitations, CBY is a definite winner! While they primarily do wedding invitations, they also do birthday invitations. Since the theme of Kayla's birthday party was Mickey and Friends, we were searching for a customized Mickey and Friends invitation. However, because Mickey and Friends are copyrighted by Disney, CBY found ways around the copyright restrictions. I had to purchase a print and various clip art from Etsy, who e-mailed me the prints, which I then e-mailed to Debbie at CBY. Once Debbie received the print, she was able to create the invitation, mounted on a silver background, and a map to the restaurant behind it. Silver? At first, I couldn't understand why she chose silver. But after three Swarovski crystals were put on Minnie Mouse's ribbon bow, I can see how the crystals and the silver complemented each other. She also designed a cute RSVP postcard with Mickey and Friends clip art on it; she kept down by keeping it as a postcard to warrant a pre-stamped postcard postage (35¢) instead of a letter postage (50¢). All were put into a pink envelope, with its weight under the 50¢ regular postage for letters. She made sure that it did not warrant additional postage. I thought it was an amazing and cute invitation and RSVP card. In planning the party, Debbie was extremely helpful in designing colorful table numbers with Mickey and Friends clip art on it. I learned what "escort cards" were, and she designed them too; they were small square cards with Mickey and Friends clip art on them to be given to a family to let them know what table they were sitting on. Then the thank you cards. Debbie had a vision on what she wanted to do: she needed three photos from the party and with clip art, she designed a cute card, back and front with no fold to keep the cost down. And, she added a single Swarovski crystal in Minnie Mouse's crown to enhance the card. Pink envelopes would accompany the thank you card. Truly custom-made and such an amazing card! I couldn't be happier in working with CBY on the invitation, RSVP, table number sign, escort card, and thank you card. I was so pleased with the results of each that I now know that if I need something like this in the future, I know where to go. Kudos also go to Debbie's husband, Wally Chaiprakorb, who is a Graphic Art Designer, who helps with the designing of invitations and related cards. With their expertise, they can see so much more as to what is appealing than I could. I couldn't ask for more! CBY is on the corner of Liliha and Kuakini Streets, near the original Liliha Bakery. They have a free parking lot in the back, which is super convenient. Open daily except Saturdays. They also participate in the annual wedding expos. I've been shopping with Creations By You on and off for over 15 years now. If Yelp was around then, I would have given them a 4-star review when things were definitely organized. I might add that this one negative experience has not been the factor for this one-star rating. Over the years I've found several reasons why this place has been going downhill: poor customer service, which ranges from total neglect to sales personnel telling you that they do not believe what you are looking for even exists (trust me, the product does exist...and if I were running a business, I'd do my research before I started to argue with customers). The most recent experience = being over-charged. I had a strange feeling something was wrong as the owner who was working the sales floor tallied up the products in less than a few seconds...I suck at math but something didn't jive with me, so after I walked out of the store, I tallied up the prices and found out I was grossly over charged. I walked back into the store and had to wait a few minutes to get the attention of the owner, who was busy chatting away with a prospective customer. She saw me out of the corner of her eye and finished her convo with the customer and came over to me. I didn't even have to explain as she seemed to immediately know the reason I was back in the store and refunded me the overage, but proceeded to make a second mistake by over charging me *again*. I brought it to the attention of the owner and she laughed and said she had "dyslexia" and rang it up a THIRD TIME. This time she got it right. I happen to know a few people with this condition, and they are exceptionally gifted and talented. I also happen to know that I have been shopping at this store for over a decade and back then, this owner did not have this "condition" until I walked into her store years later. She may have forgotten me but I haven't forgotten her....and I know her "dyslexia" seems to be a recent addition. People are not perfect and all of us make mistakes, every day. The benefit of the doubt should always be granted, first and foremost;, however, any business running also needs to realize that customers can sense insincerity and less-than-honorable intentions a mile away. read more

I remember when I first entered this store during my high school days (I won't say how long that has been!) I thought "oh my lawd, this place is friggin' awesome!" Yeah, yeah I've been to that big chain craft store many times but haven't had that awe struck feeling that I get when walking into this little corner store. Located on the corner of Liliha Street and Kuakini it stands out beautifully with its pink paint screaming "I hold a treasure trove..care to see?" Of course curiosity will get you to go in, the sparkle, HUGE selection and friendly ladies will keep you coming back! I recently got hooked on those ocean jewelry and thought why not try and create my own. They have such a huge variety of just EVERYTHING! I lost my focus and was overwhelmed with so many ideas of things I wanted to make. Their Swarovski crystals, ribbons, beads, wires, yarn, paracords, whatever you need they can provide. Dannelle was there to help me sort through the ideas that hit me as I walked through each isle..oooh'ing and aaah'ing and the what can I make with this and that questions. I learned so much, I could have stayed in there for hours. I had so much fun and learned so much. The owner was there and was very helpful and got me so excited about endless ideas AND they have classes available too! What kind of classes....whatever you want to learn they will teach you. I want to learn how to do those ocean earrings, my friend wants to learn how to make those beaded keychain thing-a-majigs. Best part we can take the same class, learn different craft how-to's at the same time for free! Well you have to buy the materials..duh, lol! I love this place. Yes, they did have to leave me to help other customers but that's expected. They're a small shop and trying to help all customers can be hard, especially they are dealing with newbie crafter's like me who have many questions and ideas and have no clue where to start. Be patience, crafting should be fun and so should shopping for those little pieces that will bring your ideas to life. The people here are very nice and go out of their way to make sure the customer's order is correct. I've purchased in store and have also ordered online for quick and easy pickup. I love their colorful and sparkly mask chains and they make great gifts! I have lots of mask accessories, but when I wear the mask chains from Creations By You, I always get compliments and people asking me where they can buy one. I've driven by this store countless times and finally decided to check it out last night. I wanted to purchase some beads for my son's school project. First, lots of parking in the private lot on the side of the store, entrance on Liliha. Second, walking in I felt like entering Aladdin's treasure cave, small but packed with lots of selections! I've read the reviews that the employees don't greet and hover over you as soon as you walk in. Me in particular I like that a lot better. It allows me to explore without feeling rushed. I believe the attitude here is informal but when I did go up and start talking to them and asking questions the lady did walk me around to the more inexpensive bead selections. What I really liked is she started helping my son, asking him questions, pointing out beads he may be interested in, and servicing him since it would be his project. I was frustrated with his slow perusal of the different beads (plus we were getting late to pick up my other son for soccer) but she kept a nice chatter with him and steered him to making a selection (probably because I kept saying, "just pick something we have to go!" Hehe). I appreciated that the most. However I can see where their hands off to let you roam and do your own thing could be considered a lack of service by some. I'm just not sensitive to that since I like my space and don't mind going up to them for help and what I need. Once I have them engaged they're really helpful and nice! read more

The first time we met Debbie was at a workshop for wedding invitations set up by The Wedding Cafe :) This session was definitely worth it as we learned about the different types of wedding invitations. We decided to go with Creations By You as we really enjoyed the samples of the invitations and we have friends that used Creations By You for their wedding invitations. Debbie is very knowledgeable in invitations when it comes to the paper, style, wording, font and anything in between. We visited the shop once and saw lots of different invitations and was able to mix and match things we liked from different invitations. We left with lots of information and a quote on what we wanted as our invitations. We gave it some time and thought, then decided to put in our order. One of Debbie's assistants took down our order and gave us instructions on what to email Debbie, and even if Debbie was working with another couple, she managed to ask us if we had any questions or needed any help. PARKING -- There is a really small lot right after the shop heading Mauka on Liliha Street. The lot is shared with the restaurant right next door. Some street parking is available on N Kuakini Street but your chances of finding a parking space is better in their parking lot. read more

My fiancee and I were in there for a half an hour, and never once were greeted or asked if we needed help. HOWEVER, a different couple that was in there were helped VERY well AND given a discount because they asked for one. So I suppose THEY would rate this place highly. I custom ordered paper for my wedding invitations, they didn't have it in stock so i waited 3weeks for it to come in(that's fine) but the day before I was suppose to go in and pick it up she calls and tells me the paper color is discontinued! WTF!? Lame!!! She didn't wanna help me find something close, Ooh wait! She did actually!! too bad the color she recommended was teal when my wedding color is Ice blue and silver!! Color blind bat! Have you ever let your imagine run wild? Have you ever had the tools to make those thoughts come true? If not the latter, Creations By You doesn't undersell - it's true! I went half heartedly looking for a project and found myself wondering the modest footprint for over a hour. Nearly every imaginable item was available and when not, enough to spark your imagine down a new path. On top of it, everyone was incredibly nice. I think everyone in the store asked if there was some way they could help, though unbeknownst to them, I was simply letting creative thoughts take ahold. The parking lot is a bit hard to navigate, when it's busy. However, that they have parking at all is a positive. I've never considered the area as a hot bed of creative small shops, but perhaps it should be - in 1 or 2 blocks, I found everything I could think of and everyone was equally as nice.
