I placed a special order with a 50% deposit for two sofas on 2/15/26 for delivery on or about 6/1/26. I tried to inquire about the status of my order since it's way overdue. I left several voice mails and also wrote several emails to the company but I have received no response. They have liquidated their store in Alexandria and I am fearful that I will never receive my sofas and I've lost my $3,900 deposit. I am very upset !!! read more

As others have recently posted, we too have been ghosted by Creative Classics regarding the status of delivery of our sectional sofa after we had paid half the cost upfront. I sadly learned of the store's closing when I happened upon the store unexpectedly and they were emptying it out. My husband and I then learned that the store was only owned by the Bernhardt family for the last 2 years. The marketing gave us the impression they had the same ownership for the last 25 years and their longevity was a major driving factor in making our purchase. The poor communication started immediately as we had heard nothing to inform us of the store's closing. I even sent a message through FB to the owner's spouse who I recognized from the store and had written an article stating --- " everything always begins with the customer" & I stated. "You need to ensure that you have a respectful ending with your customer" ! no response for 2 entire weeks! We finally received a phone call from Mr. Bernhardt at the assuring us that our order would be delivered on time and if we had any questions to contact him at the same number. In good faith, we waited until after the week of our expected delivery date to contact him. No response, voicemails left / emails left... we also saw remainder of merchandise auctioned off last weekend! There is no excuse for the lack of contact. After searching online for an affordable American Leather sofabed, I checked the clearance page on CC's site and there it was - a queen Comfort Sleeper in the exact model I wanted and in pristine condition! Scotty and his apprentice Johnathan delivered it with great care, fitting it in the tight space I've alotted for a guest sleeper. Although this is an as-is item, it's in top shape and I'm sure CC will address any issues I might encounter. And the price - while still pretty high - was worth it to me. My husband and I came upon CC as we walked downtown Alexandria. Beautiful shop with lots of upscale furnishings. Fell into conversation with the owner - DELIGHTFUL - who happened to be there that day and decided we'd be back to purchase. I like the fact that the store is local. You don't get that much anymore. I also like the fact that they provide free design service with orders over a certain amount. Many places do that, but it's still a nice perk. The designer is the daughter in law of the owner. I thought she was lovely. I also appreciated the time she put into our design plan. Honestly, though, we didn't care for the design plan for various reasons. That said, that's a matter of preference, right? You may be extraordinarily pleased. :) Because we weren't a fan of the overall design but wanted to purchase something from the store in recognition of the design time spent and the lovely woman, we decided to purchase a set of 4 kitchen chairs in solid cherry. I have solid wood pieces at home that are quite expensive. I thought I knew enough about wood to understand what was being delilvered. Apparently, I did not. Three chairs came looking like a set. The fourth looked like it was a mistake. I had a woodworker comment that he thought the wrong process had been done on the wood. I called the company and sent a video explaining my issue. The customer service representative said he took the matter to his superiors and THEY AGREED that the chair should've never been sent. I won't go into all the details. Let's just say that I had to go back and forth with customer service a lot. Let's say I had to stay on top of customer service and I found it an uncomfortable experience. The gent in charge - to be fair, new in his position - brings up politics A LOT and just doesn't seem to understand what is and is not appropriate when dealing with a customer. In fact, once he told me he didn't contact me because he didn't know how to tell me bad news. I told him he better need to learn how to give a customer bad news - lol - if he was going to remain in customer experience. I think the gent is a nice guy. I also understand he's new. I would normally rate the customer service experience a zero - yep, I don't do politics or uncomfortable situations as a rule in business - but I'll give him a 2 and hope he continues to learn. As it is, I wouldn't buy again from the company knowing he'd be who I'd be dealing with. Understand I now have a subpar experience and history with him. I'm pretty sure he'll learn before you buy. Also, recognize my experience may just be a personality conflict and may not be your experience!! :) Moving on. The new chair was delivered by the owner's son and, well, it looked like the chair I was returning. LOL. I told him to take it back. He told me there was nothing wrong with the chair. I tried to explain that I'd had SEVERAL exchanges with the customer service rep and had been told that there WAS in fact something wrong with the chair. Mind you, these chairs were about $500 a piece. :) This went back and forth and I was told that "the customer is always right" and that's why no one had told me I was wrong. I lost it and became angry. You don't tell a customer they're right for months and then tell them they're wrong upon delivery when they're expectations have already been set. WHEN was someone going to educate me? That's NOT okay to show up and tell me I'm wrong AFTER you've agreed with me for MONTHS. The son explained that I was educated when I bought the pieces. Maybe. I don't remember that and, well, that's a problem. See, I have a doctor's appt next week for an exam and remember in detail the details they told me weeks ago. I had carpet expert explain the pros and cons of repairing vs replacing carpet almost a year ago and can tell you what he said almost verbatim. Same with the drycleaner who explained their service, the chef who explained the cooking technique of a dish I loved - several years ago - etc. The point is that if someone explained this stuff to me it wasn't in enough detail or explained well enough to stick. It just wasn't. What I remember is everything in that store lookng like it MATCHED. That I DO remember. My better half came up with a wonderful solution to make the chairs look like a set. We kept the old chair that looked like a misfit and added the new chair that looked like a misfit. Now we have 2:2 chairs and you can see a mistake wasn't made. You can see that's just the wood. I give the company 4 stars because my issues are for the most part mine and, I don't believe, something someone else might experience. I also give 4 stars because I lost my cool and got angry. No one should get angry. That's not okay. The son was very gracious considering and that needs to be recognized. But 5 stars I cannot give. I'm sorry but the education needs to be better and more consistent. The customer service needs to be improved. So 4 stars it will be. read more

My husband and I bought a sofa from Creative Classics about 2.5 years ago, and the staff took great care of us during the purchasing process. We got to take fabric samples home, staff made recommendations on caring for fabric, and they helped us find a sofa that was uniquely suited for what we wanted. After extensive trips to Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware, these owners blew us away with their customer service. I purchased a leather sofa (Manhattan reclining sofa) from Creative Classics. I was very impressed with their service, and the staff's knowledge and willingness to discuss various options. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to interior design, so I greatly appreciated the staff's willingness to offer advice. Also, after the purchase, I received a hand-signed thank-you card -- a nice touch! The duo who delivered my sofa where professional and were exceptionally careful with my sofa and my home (walls, floors, etc.). It's unfortunate that today companies often disappoint -- not so with Creative Classics! I look forward to the day when I can be their customer again. I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to review this store. My wife and I spent an entire weekend shopping for bedroom furniture at all the big locations; Crate and Barrel, Ethan Allen, the Galleria malls and the chain stores like Haverty's and Thomasville. After leaving each place disappointed in either the quality, selection or service we went to Creative Classics in Old Town Alexandria. We were greeted by the owners Scott and Rachel and given a brief overview of their manufacturers and construction methods. After looking through the beautiful showroom we turned to the special order books and found exactly what we were looking for. We wrote down the prices and turned to the internet to do some research. It turns out the prices at Creative Classics were five percent less than the cheapest price we could find on the internet. That was before we received a five percent military discount! Not to mention that an internet order from another location would incur about $600 in shipping charges for the five pieces that we wanted. Creative charges only a $75 delivery fee and recommended a few charitable organizations for us to donate our old furniture. The furniture isn't cheap but it is solid hardwood and made in Vermont by American workers. You won't find any cleverly disguised veneered particle board in the showroom. The quality is outstanding! We are proud to keep our money in the USA and support this local, family-owned and operated business. All in all we are elated with the quality, price and service we received. Rachel even helped us custom order a support system that would preserve the warranty on our Tempur-Pedic mattress without altering the appearance of the bed. They are very knowledgeable about their products. Now we just have to wait for delivery! I can't say enough about Creative Classics. Highly recommended! read more

Last Thursday I came in to purchase a couch because I had to cancel my custom couch that I had been waiting on from Daniel Donnelly Designs for over 5 months. As soon as I walked in the greeted me, and they let me look around undisturbed until i had questions. Then Rachel and Sarah were very knowledgable about the furniture brands and quality in their store. I had done extensive research on the couch I wanted, and they had a beautiful brand new floor room model that they let me purchase for immediate delivery. The couch was delivered in 4 days and the delivery team was fantastic as well! I also received a follow letter in the mail thanking me for my business, which I thought was wonderful touch. My couch is gorgeous, and I am waiting for a beautiful recliner to be custom made. (Only 4 weeks, and not 5 months). Our custom leather recliner was delivered today, and it is absolutely beautiful!The entire experience with Creative Classics has been top notch. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable while we were in the store...and they even let us bring home swatches to help decide which leather we liked best. Delivery was on-schedule, and the delivery guys arrived during the window I was provided (which rarely happens). They were very courteous & professional and actually ENCOURAGED me to inspect the piece to make sure I was happy with it before I provided final payment to them. We were extremely satisfied with our experience at Creative Classics. We went there on a Sunday afternoon looking for a replacement for our poorly made sleeper sofa that has not worn well. The showroom is attractive, the furniture is all American-made furniture, and it's not a big chain but a family-owned business. The owners personally assisted us and even gave us fabric samples to take home. We ordered the Gina sofa. Exactly as promised, it was delivered yesterday. One of the delivery men is the son of the owners. He and his partner were so careful carrying the old sofa down the stairs and the new one up the stairs. And we loved working with Kelly, who has a fine arts degree, and was extremely helpful in recommending sofas, fabrics and finishes. We have purchased a living room set, and some other smaller pieces from Creative Classics. They have a beautiful showroom with a lot of ideas and samples for you to customize your order. Their staff is very personable, and is efficient in getting all the details of your order documented for the furniture makers. Your order will take a long time to craft and deliver, but it will be exactly as you wanted sometimes with the signature of the crafter underneath the piece. It pains me to write this review because my first experience with Creative Classics was great. My second experience, however, was a disaster. So let's set the context...shall we? A frog and frogette are busy furnishing their newly acquired lily pad. Creative Classics has an absolutely gorgeous dining room table on display. We order one just like it from the manufacturer, customize it to our exact specifications, and have it delivered along with a cabinet that is perfect for holding the small receiver that we use to pump music into our living and dining rooms. All's well and good--table and cabinet arrive, are delivered promptly, and we're happy as two frogs can be. Then things start to go awry... While purchasing the table we also notice a bench that we think is perfect for our sunroom, but as it's a bit on the spendy side we wait till CC's end of year sale and order one for pick-up in the Thanksgiving time frame, 6 to 8 weeks away. 8 weeks go by...nothing. I call CC and inquire about the bench. Only to be told that, "yes" the piece has been completed, but "no" they won't be picking it up from the manufacturer till after the holiday. They're too busy. Disappointed, I wait through the next 10 days expecting a call that the bench is at the warehouse, and...again...nothing. So I call again, and am told this time that they've had the bench for almost a week, but gave up trying to contact me because I don't have voice-mail. Don't have voice-mail? Are they kidding? I *only* have a cell, so not being able to reach my voice-mail is...well...pretty close to impossible. Moreover, what about calling my wife, whose number CC also has, or perhaps an email? Anyway, I try to make arrangements to pick up the bench and am told that there are no evening nor weekend hours at the warehouse--basically that unless I'm willing to take off from work, I don't get my bench. (CC's owner explains this as an overtime issue. Though he could simply skew the warehouse's hours to accommodate his customers without his employees incurring overtime.) I try over the next three weeks to find a time to get to CC's warehouse, but just can't get away from work. Finally, in my frustration, I try to arrange for delivery so that I can have the bench before the Christmas holiday. I wait in vain for another week and...again...nothing: No call from CC's warehouse, or from the store, no email, nothing. At that point I give up and inform CC that I was no longer interested in completing the transaction. CC didn't even argue--made no attempt to squeeze in a delivery--just sent me a check for the deposit that they'd had in their account for almost 3 months! WTF? I'd give CC three stars based on the strength of the first purchase, but Yelp's own definition of 3 stars is "A-OK", and that's not how I feel about Creative Classics. Plain fact is, I won't shop there again. I feel like I got the shaft because this was a small transaction--one not worth their attention--and that's a shame. read more

We live in a bungalow in Del Ray, so needed furniture that fits our space - Creative Classics was perfect! Great selection that fit both our living room and our budget. This is a locally owned store, both Scott and Rachel were incredibly helpful (including digging through stacks and stacks of swatches to help us pick cat-friendly fabric). Nice little furniture store with modern and arts and craft style furniture. think lots of clean lines usually found at Crate and Barrel or Room and Board chains. However the quality of the furniture here is key. Great craftsmanship including Amish built dining furniture and Frank Lloyd Wright reproductions. Peruse the fine details and you'll find dove-tailed joinery, solid wood furniture, and even options for quarter sewn oak. Pretty pricy, but we are talking quality furniture here. Two levels, so don't forget to check out the sets upstairs. Lots of eye candy in all the store's nooks and crannies, especially the neato art, lamps, lighting, and rugs. read more

Went here to get an American Leather sleeper sofa. The first time I went to see what was available and was helped by a very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable younger lady. She gave me a leather sample and a print out with the various styles. I decided to think about what I really wanted and to come back in a few weeks because I was overwhelmed by the options. In the interim, I went to various other furniture the Northern Virginia area with leather sleeper sofas. They were either cheaper, or at the same price point, but my mind kept coming back to the American Leather sofa I saw in Creative Classics. Well, on 11 May, I went in to get my couch! I was not acknowledged for way longer than I would have liked. The younger gentleman was busy with a sale, I get it. But, it would have been nice for someone to say: "Hello, someone will be right with you." The owner, Scott, was busy speaking with a gentleman and did not direct his attention to me until I was just awkwardly standing near him. I mean, I was about to drop $$$$ and wanted to, at a minimum, feel that I was not made of glass. Once I sat down at the desk and spoke to Scott about what I wanted, it was a very painless process. I was told that I'd get a sample of the leather before it was cut to ensure that the color is on par with what I expected based on the " Havana coffee" brown leather sample that I based my decision upon in the store. I got a very nice "Thank you" card in the mail with their business card and inviting me to call and ask any questions. I thought that was a nice touch and appreciate businesses do go a little further in their customer service. So, that erased any previous hurt feelings I might have had. I called to follow up today, 2 June, to get a status update cause I never got any sample and was just wondering when I should expect it. The couch had shipped from the warehouse and should be here soon. I'm pumped because that means that I don't have to sit on the floor anymore. Apparently, getting the leather before it's cut is a special request that wasn't noted on the file. Not a deal breaker, because I'm sure that I will love it, but the idea was placed into my head and something that I was looking out for. That said, don't say you will do something and then just not follow through. (That is a pet peeve of mine, for sure. A business can't afford to make mistakes like that.) I got a call back later, from Ann, and was told that if I didn't like the color of the couch, that they'd keep it at the store and order a new one. I definitely didn't expect that and happy to know that they would take that extra step. On the day of scheduled delivery, Scottie made sure to call me an hour beforehand so I wasn't just sitting around the apartment waiting for their arrival. I was able to inspect the couch and color before signing the delivery paperwork. I really love it. And, I can't wait for my guests to try it out. read more

I've been to Creative Classics a few times over the last 10 years, and when the owners have noticed a downturn in quality from any of their manufacturers, they will simply stop carrying that item. They are interested in selling beautiful pieces, but not at the cost of quality -- and of real quality, for those of us who USE our furniture, have kids or dogs, and really need furniture that will stand the test of time. Each time I've gone in, I've received excellent help in choosing colors, styles, and proportions that will work for my space, without any unnecessary upselling into something I didn't need. These folks really want you to be satisfied with your purchase, and to be a customer for life. It's a joy to work with people who have pride in what they do. Many here have mentioned American Leather products in particular. American Leather is sold at more than one store in the D.C. area, and their sofas are not inexpensive. So why not give your hard-earned cash to someone who really earns it with care and attention to your needs? My fiancé and I bought just about the nicest sleeper sofa from Creative Classics about 6 months ago, and during our recent move the movers broke the back and one of the arms. I called them right away to come out and evaluate the damage, and even post sale, they jumped on the case. They were friendly, and incredibly responsive. One of their evaluators, Rex, came out the next week. I merely expected him to asses the damage. We gave him a key so he could let himself into our home while both of us we're at work (very trusting, I know), and Rex not only evaluated the damage - He fixed, disassembled, brought the couch down to the basement where we wanted it, and reassembled it all free of charge! He sent me a picture when he was done and I was blown away! I promise to be a repeat customer for whatever furniture we need next. They truly do good business and that's hard to come by these days. We bought a sleepover sofa here years ago, mainly because the sofa frame is hardwood, the sleeper has no springs, and the piece is made in the US. This furniture is designed for small houses and entries and has worked very well. We chose a microfiber suede which has been durable -- and we have two teen/tween kids now. We've even gotten blood out of it! Recently, the sofa mechanism broke and I was panicked. Yet, I called the store and they fixed it -- no charge. Fantastic! read more
