I have recently been interested in what the benefits of different types of massage are, and had heard that this place offers a very authentic Ayurvedic massage using essential oils and different techniques. This review will be only about the massage part of the business as I haven't done any yoga or other classes here. One thing worth noting is that there is definitely a gypsy-esque vibe to the place, and you shouldn't come expecting the clean lines of a spa. However this isn't a bad thing and I think it supports the type of classes and massage they are practicing, things may seem a little scruffy, but just roll with it. The woman who did my massage was very conscientious of my needs during it, and was incredibly skilled at finding problems in my back, shoulders and calves and massaging it out. I haven't had an Ayurvedic massage before, but I really liked it and am definitely feeling the pain a bit today, but in a very good loose way. I would say that it isn't totally foreign, as all massage is basically variations on pushing on muscles in your back, but the flow of the massage was different and felt like it was a more natural progression from one muscle group to another than standard Swedish or Shiatsu is. According to a conversation I overheard while there, it would appear they are on the brink of a total remodel, so I'll have to come back and check out it once that is done. I decided to give Zumba a whirl--and Creative Vibrations offers classes taught by Lisa Eskenazi. The class I went to was off the normal schedule--and me and my friend were the only people there. Lisa is fantastic. This was my first class in a long time. I'm a fluffy gal, and it's so darn intimidating to try a new fitness class--I've encountered students and instructors who don't like my kind (ack! a big girl in workout clothes!). But Lisa rocked. It was a tough workout but FUN and very doable. She's a powerhouse and I worked harder than I thought I could. I will be back! The space is pretty small and it was warm. DO NOT EVEN TRY TO GET THROUGH TO THESE PEOPLE. I purchased a Groupon with a friend in February, pre-registered online as directed, and showed up to a closed studio. We tried the cell phone number listed, and received no response. We tried again and again each week after that to get through to them - first the phone # would just ring through and our messages were unanswered, the next week an automated message said the message box was full and we still received no response. We eventually found out from the website that the owner was ill and that the studio would be closed for a few months (during which our Groupon would expire), and ended up getting a refund (in the form of Groupon credit). Fast forward to today - another friend purchased another Groupon, not knowing it was the same studio I had such issues with in the past, because of the changed business name. Seeing that there were yelp reviews from April and May, I figured the owner was better, renovations were complete, and hoped for a better experience. We pre-registered and optimistically made the trek in the heat only to find the studio closed once again, and no answer from the cell phone number. Since February til now I have been to the location 3 times and still have yet to see the inside, and have not been able to reach anyone from the studio at all. I am fed up with this place. read more

I took my first yoga class at Creative Vibrations on Tuesday morning. What is most important to me in a yoga class is a fantastic, knowledgeable instructor to give you excellent guidance. My instructor was patient, attentive, and gave lots of adjustments. Requisite filled! I felt good, healthy, and stretched out after class. From the moment I walked into this studio I did not feel welcomed. My sister and I went to community yoga, which was free as part of their teacher training program. The teacher layita went so fast and her energy was all over. She didn't help anyone with any poses and she did a terrible job at explaining what she wanted. Towards the middle of the hour class I just couldn't wait for it to end, I have never felt that way about a yoga class in my life. I actually would have walked out if I wasn't with my sister (who also hated the experience but there was no way to tell while the class was in session). Overall it was a very uncomfortable experience which was caused by lolytia. My sister and I felt bad for all of the people in their teacher training because they are learning horribly! Horrible place. I purchased groupon in May, I went there and redeemed it, registered on their web site for my first class in May, it was cancelled. I registered for another class 3 days later, same thing I received an email that class will be cancelled. After that they posted on there web site that they will be close for the summer and will be back in September 23. I thought ok, I live close and will go to other studio during the summer and then will start in September. Today I checked the schedule and there is new post, they will be closed till October 26. Seriously??? And on October 26 are you going to post later date in December or so? I understand it was a pretty cheap deal (20$ for 20 yoga classes) and I think they realized they sold too many deals to too many people and now they don't wanna give a service. They probably think 20$ is a small amount and people will just forget about it and they get to keep the money and not to give a service. I have never seen anything like that. I've been taking classes at Creative Vibrations Yoga Studio for several months now and they have been a mainstay of my weekly activities. I take the Belly Dance classes primarily but the Yoga, Pilates and Zumba classes are also very popular with great instructors in a fun atmosphere. Since I've begun studying Belly Dance here - I've really expanded my dance vocabulary to include more artistic and interpretive movements - the classes really do offer something for everyone at any level. If you've never tried belly dance, yoga or zumba before or you've been hiding in your living room with a dvd (like I was doing...) it's time to make new friends and learn in an exciting and creative environment like Creative Vibrations Yoga Studio. I am a beginner belly dancer and I found this great small studio very close to NQ Ditmars stop. The music choice is very rhythmic, the professor very knowledgeable. She combines the belly dance moves with body energy techniques and overall the class is fun and relaxing. After 8 hours of stressful work environment this is the best place to relax while learning new dance steps. read more

I know the place through my friend she goes to yoga classes there and she likes it. So I was happy I get an amazon local deal at creative vibrations.Despite some frustrations with getting lost on the way,my experience was good. I work long hours at the computer and I try to get massage every once in a while. This time I had sharp pain in my shoulder. The therapist suggested the herbal compress with turmeric,I tried it and I loved it! The most importantly my pain was gone. The drawback the changing area was a bit small for two people. I live in Ditmars, so I can't tell you how cool it is to get off the train from work and walk immediately into this studio. I've tried the yoga and bellydancing classes, have bought a 10-class pass for much less than I would at other yoga studios. The classes are diverse and the teachers are extremely qualified: The owner, Lalita, is warm and friendly -- so is the studio. You are surrounded by beautiful and exotic fabric: The studio is not sterile (like other studios) and the atmosphere is laid-back. I really prefer going here than I do any other studio. read more

I had an hour-long massage at Creative Vibrations just before the holiday weekend and it was a pleasant experience. The masseur paid special attention to my tight shoulders, like I had asked, and i left there feeling good albeit a tad slippery. (Next time I'll ask her to lighten up on the massage oil.) It was relaxing, enjoyable and I'd go back again. My two caveats? Quiet, background music would have been a plus. In hindsight I guess i could have asked but then again she could have offered too. I began here at Creative Vibrations last year when it was brand new. I have seen the potential and growth in here. There is so much this place has to offer, and it really feels like a little oasis in the desert. I have taken yoga classes, belly dancing classes and I have also received a massage, and every one of the experiences has given me another reason to come back for more. I am trying out Zumba soon as well! And I can't wait, I know it will be energetic, fun and a good work out at the same time. And if there is ever a Hafla to go to, this would be the place. Bought a massage discount offer emailed to me from AmazonLocal. I liked the idea of supporting neighborhood business. I am disappointed in the lack of professionalism and service. I was told by Creative Vibrations that I could only schedule the message Mon or Tues mornings. Understanding that off-peak times are targeted toward discount specials I agreed and took a day off work to "treat myself" and planned the rest of my day around this appointment. Unfortunately no one showed up. I called the number on the door (presumably the owners cell phone) and was apologetically asked if i could reschedule and she'd get back to me in 40 minutes. Its now 60 minutes later and no call. Doesn't matter. from the looks at most of these reviews this is common practice and a bad space for soothing oneself. I bought their first time student monthly yoga pass. I am the kind of person who gives a studio a chance to see how it works on my body. I can work my body out in any yoga class and I don't mind adjusting my needs when the class is going somewhere my body might not. So even though the teacher isn't always clear, the energy feels scattered and slightly nagging, I decided to stick it out. (Maybe I'll learn something new? I'm being open to all teachings...) The owner has told me just text me before class to confirm (this has been working for 2 weeks). One day I text to confirm me and a friend for a class I needed very much. The owner left her phone in the car and when we arrived she complained we didn't confirm and she has made another "appointment." #1 Teachers should wait 10 to 15 minutes before canceling class, NOT as students are arriving on time and confirmed. #2 What teacher turns away students who have already paid for their class? If I was a new student with cash, I bet she would have been ready to take that money and teach. #3 What teacher turns away a student willing and ready to take class? Everyone who walks through the door is worth teaching and giving 100% too, even if it is 1 person a class or 10 people in a class. So out of frustration my friend about 15 minutes later, walked back to get a refund... The owner was still there, she clearly had no appointment. She just didn't want to teach. The solution is to have a sub on hand. If I paid for a service I should receive service. I'll finish out my card, but I won't be returning next month. read more

This is a total rip off. I bought 10 classes from Groupon in December. I signed up for the first class online. I showed up for the class, nobody was there. I called, they said the studio is under renovation and that information was posted on their website and the studio will reopen on Sat, Jan 19th. So why did the system let me sign up for the class the day studio is closed, in the first place? There was no such information on class schedule page. There should be no classes during the particular period on the sign up page if they decided to close or renovate the studio. What are these people doing here? Do they just take your money and disappear? Today I went there again for the class I signed up. It is Jan 21st. There was no single soul there. I called them and got the answer that they are still under renovation, they will reopen on Sat 26th. This is extremely unprofessional. This is totally weird. I have never seen anything like it. There has to be a better way to communicate to the customers and not just let the customers figure out on their own when you decide to operate the business. I am going to complain to groupon. I really hope these people are serious about their business and do something. Their way of communication by far is very confusing. read more

BEWARE, horrible business practices! SCAM!!! I thought I had a trusting business and 'yoga community' relationship with Lalita, the business owner, after years of on and off patronage in her studio. In May 2013 I even chose to sign up with her to become a yoga teacher, out of all the other yoga studios I could have chosen in all of New York City to train at. The Ubud Bali "Teacher Training" trip she advertised sounded like the opportunity of a lifetime. I set aside all of my savings for this trip, corresponded with her via email several times about my registration and confirmed my spot with a heafty deposit. THEN... Out of nowhere, she cancelled the trip and said NO REFUND!!! Then she up and leaves the country and says she will be out of reach until September. She had my money for over a month before cancelling due to "LOW ENROLLMENT" aka, NOT MY PROBLEM!! She doesn;t respond to my emails or calls. It's been two months since the date she said she would be in touch with me regarding a refund that I told her I demand. Like everyone else I know, I AM BROKE. I gave her money because I thought I was getting new job skills out of the deal, not a deeper hole in my already empty wallet! read more

SO WONDERFUL! I got a Abhyanga massage here last night. Lalita truly has a gift and a true passion for Ayurvedic massage and yoga. She is one of the only authentic ayurvedic masseuses in NY, learning all her movements from powerful instructors in India. It's a nicely decorated, clean, small place. Completely affordable, and relaxing. The night I went to sleep, I felt so relaxed, peaceful and had the most wonderful dreams. It was really nice. this was the first massage I've ever had; I went because I was experiencing back pain and thought it might help. I can't speak to how professional or proper the massage was, but I can say I felt relaxed during and immediately after(even with the train noise). however, I noticed a few hours later that, not only had my back pain returned and worsened, but that I had a new bruise from the massage. it was incredibly painful. I have very dark skin, so a bruise is unmistakeable. I'm offering three, rather than fewer stars, because I felt comfortable and relaxed at the time of service. but I would not return. read more

This morning was my first time attempting Yoga ever. I felt quite awkward during the class because the various instructors were confusing me as I needed a little more instruction and conformity. Overall, the studio is peaceful and instructors helped me with my poses. I will definitely attend more classes and see how it goes. read more

this studio is super convenient in the winter months of yoga because you don't even have to leave the train station to get to it! when you walk down the stairs of the N train, you make a left and the studio is on the left after some internet and comic place. the studio is small and quaint...so you're not going to get those crowded classes that you'll get in the city....and since it's a new studio, i haven't seen herds of people shuffling out of the class before the one i usually go to...which is probably good because there is not a big changing area. i've been going to John's class on Tuesdays...i haven't gone to the other classes but I've met many of the teachers at their open house. All very nice people. John is not your typical yoga teacher...you have to read his bio on their website and you'll see what i mean. you can tell he's down to earth and not a space cadet...he just genuinely wants to guide you in a practice that is best for you. The class is a nice vinyasa flow with very specific emphasis on alignment but not pushing on perfection...just promoting that yoga is a practice....He'll verbally walk you through adjustments and then manually adjust. Since the classes are so small, he has time the time to get to everyone. Sometimes, it's just nice to have some assistance even in downward dog! Lalita the studio owner is also a teacher and masseuse....she seems really nice and is offering a massage special. i haven't tried it yet but it's such a good deal... 5 stars for John...4 stars for the studio. read more

Purchased a groupon to this place and, even at that price, think it was a waste of money. The stuido is dark and dirty and not at all relaxing to be inside. Plus, when I arrived with a printed groupon, the owner kept freaking out that I needed to get online and mark my groupon as used. I didn't have a phone but she wouldn't let me start class until somebody else let me borrow their phone to sign in and do it. Such a bad vibe. The class itself was meh - they are going through teacher training and the person teaching was going through training. Timing could not have been better for me! I was told about Creative Yoga last week by a fellow yelper, just as I was in the market for a massage. Lalitta did a fantastic job, really focusing on the areas that I needed work on. The studio is a cute, intimate place which gave it a local feel as opposed to being one of the large commercialized yoga/spa places. They offer a nice variety of yoga and dance classes, which i am going to have to check out in the near future with the wife. Lalitta is the proprietor and very nice and welcoming. I have been back to visit the studio and I have to say it looks so beautiful after all of the renovations. LaLita does a great job connecting with her students and she was very helpful with adjustments during the last class I attended. You can really tell she has a true passion for her work, and that attitude is infectious among her loyal students. The classes are now much more organized (one instructor) and I'm very happy with the updates that they have made to the space and schedule overall. I visited this cute yoga studio for an Abhyanga massage offer on Living Social. The space is authentic and very "yogi" - I loved it! As someone else stated in the reviews, do not go expecting your average spa experience. This place has Indian drapes hung all over the walls and a comfortable "homey" feel. The smell of natural oils fills the space and instantly takes you away. I got an Abhyanga massage, amazing! Long, deep strokes which felt natural, and not like a "procedure" as many massages can feel (step by step). Also, a lot of massages I've gotten before, I leave sore, but this one not at all, I felt revived! The woman massaging me made me feel very comfortable and I would definitely go back. I had an ayuverdic massage here and I found it to be deeply relaxing and enjoyable! The place is convenient to get to as it is right off the subway stop, the masseur was friendly, the place cozy and clean. I don't care about frills or spa-like ambiance. I don't care what celebrities have frequented the establishment. I care about service and quality. A person who is licensed, understands the mind-body connection, and who cares more about my well-being than watching the clock. I have seen many massage therapists and Lalita is the best person who has ever worked on my back. She is honest, applies perfect pressure, and allows you to relax (isn't constantly talking to you). She uses a modest amount of oil that smells wonderful and facilitates relaxation. I'm so thoroughly impressed with Lalita that I don't think I can ever go elsewhere. This was my first Ayurvedic massage and I loved it. It is different than a Swedish massage in that it is working more with energy movement and lymphatic stimulation than just muscular work--but it is a massage and feels great. I work in television production, which can involve long hours standing and pretty heavy lifting. I had sore EVERYTHING for years before I finally decided to gather the courage and slip into Creative Vibrations one day to investigate. Three months later, there's no question it's the best thing I've ever done for my physical well-being. I just got another 10-class card and a gift massage for the gf and she's thrilled! My lower back doesn't constantly hurt anymore, I'm sleeping better, and it feels like even my circulation has improved noticeably since I started taking 1-3 classes a week. All class attendees get personal attention from the teacher. She's a very deep, knowledgeable person who doesn't teach beyond the abilities of whoever's taking her class. And she explains a great amount about the philosophy and technique behind Yoga practice too, which give it a cool context. She's got great stories about training in India. I was off on a Friday and by chance I just called Lailita to see if she was available to squeeze me in the same day in the early evening. She gladly made room for me @ 6pm (it was about 3:30 when I called her) for a 90min Ayurvedic Massage with hot oil. I am a yoga teacher and wanted to loosen up some tight muscles in my shoulders and upper back but the Ayurvedic Massage wasn't targeted exactly to use the same deep tissue techniques. What I got was so much better! She massaged the places throughout not only to help loosen the knots but also to move around the fluids in our lymphatic system that don't really get to move around and detox! It was a wonderful experience and I dream of going back to treat myself when I have the time. read more

I went there for massage last weekend and it was the worst services I have received since moving to NYC in 2007. We purchased the deal via Amazon Local. It took more than 1 week for them to return our call for an appt. When my husband showed up, the lady told him our appt was rescheduled but we did not get any notification in advance. OK fine. Amazon Local probably generated lots of traffic in the studio. We tried to be understandable. When I showed up at studio on time. The massage lady was late. When I changed my cloth and ready, the lady said, "give me 5 min" and everything became so quiet. I wondered and looked via curtain and saw her playing with her iPhone. Finally the massage started, it was horrible. She just pressed my body by missing major pressure points and lacked of consistency. The lady also drank water and rob my feet at the same time. The actually massage ran only half hour. After she done, I asked for a hot tower as normally do at other SPA since there was oil all over my body and hair. The lady said, "keep it there. it is good for you" So I walked out the door with stinky, greasy hair. My husband did not even bother to show up for his appointment. I tried to get past the very strange an uninviting entrance to this studio, only to feel like I was walking into an old-school circus sideshow tent: it was dark, cluttered, and really off-putting. At this point, I wished I had checked some reviews on the place before paying my hard-earned money for a class. I'm no diva and I'm all about giving everything a fair chance before judging it so I attended the class, hoping the instruction and the experience would make up for the lousy first impression (this has happened to me more than once) only to end up paying almost $20 for the WORST YOGA CLASS OF MY LIFE, and this is coming from a long time yoga practitioner (10 years) that has gone to dozens of low, mid, and high-end studios. When the class started, I was curious as to why there was only one other person in the class with me, despite it being one of the busiest times of the day for most yoga studios. After I took the class, I totally understood why. The style, the instruction, the "yoga teacher voice" made this the longest and least-satisfying class ever. Do yourself a favor and go to ANY of the other yoga studios in Astoria, I've been to all of them (even though I live in Manhattan) and this is the first negative experience I've had in that cool little neighborhood :) Good luck! read more

I purchased a 70-Minute Ayurvedic Massage with Foot Soak for my girlfriend as a birthday gift back in April off of Amazon Local Deals site to the Creative Vibrations Spa, and lets just say they should change the name of the place to "Creative way to be shady thieves" Spa. This is a total scam, sham, any way you want to put it. These people sell vouchers on websites like Amazon Local, or living social to people, and then when you call to try and schedule an appointment they give you the "oh we're all booked line" or they actually told my girlfriend when she called "Oh you have a voucher from Amazon, you have to come in during non peak ours during the week" when no where on the coupon of the deal did it say anything about non peak hours? My girlfriend called and called for months to try and schedule an appointment and it was always the same old lines, or they were extremely rude, or just didn't return phone calls at all. Fast forward from April until October (This past friday) after months of this runaround, and two days before the voucher expired I called myself and spoke to someone on the phone after several more failed attempts by my girlfriend. The girl on the phone tried giving me the the same story, "oh we're all booked up for the weekend, but after Sunday you can put the Voucher value towards our full price package" ... wow! there's the scam... they sell the discounted Vouchers on Amazon Local and living social, give people the runaround until the voucher expires, and then try and convince them to still come in and pay full price! I told the girl that I was on to them, and I would be seeking a full refund from Amazon, and would post on Yelp about their business practices if they didn't schedule my girlfriend an appointment before the voucher ran out, she said she understood. Never heard a word back from them. so here ya go Creative Scam Artists Studio and Imaginary Spa, here's your review for being shady, and trying to steal my money... not to mention the embarrassment that this was a birthday gift. And unlike you, I stay true to my word, so today I contacted Amazon, and they were nice (this in no way is a review of Amazon Local, they were awesome) and gave me a refund... and agreed that this is bad business. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The most unprofessional business I have ever dealt with in my life and I'm 56 years old! They are completely clueless in how to conduct business, deal with customers and have any kind of business etiquette. They only have a cell phone as their main phone to start. I called twice a day for a week to set up an appointment for a massage for my wife's birthday and they NEVER returned my call. I finally went down there to set up the appointment in person and ask why they never returned my call. The owner's answer was "We've been so busy we were not able to return phone calls".........all I got was a VERY weak "Sorry". I set up an appointment for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday 9-28 (her appointments are entered only in her cell phone!) and she assured me she would do the massage herself. My wife was there promptly at 8:25 a.m. but could not even go upstairs and was locked out behind a gate. My wife waited one half an hour on the sidewalk and of course the owner was a no show. I called that cell phone # at 8:45 a.m. and of course no answer. My wife was livid and I was very angry because this was supposed to be her birthday gift!! I went later that day to the establishment about 1:00 p.m. and asked the owner why she was a no show. She looked at her cell phone "appointment book" and said "Oh yeah I see you had an appointment...........sorry...........do you want to set up another appointment?" When I complained about why she didn't even call me back after the message I left about her no show her response was "....you can ask for a refund (from Amazon Local) and it's no problem." I was nothing but courteous to her and never raised my voice but her whole attitude and demeanor came off as she simply didn't care. I knew then this place was so disorganized, unprofessional, and lacking in any business acumen that it was time to get a refund and warn other potential customers of my extremely negative experience with this place. There are simply too many other great massage places that are opening up locally that deserve your attention. I am a Certified Yoga Instructor and was looking to teach in Astoria yoga studios, so I reached out to Creative Vibrations. The lady I spoke with on the phone (don't remember the name but I believe she was the owner/manager) seemed interested in meeting with me to discuss my experience and training. Yay! Right? Not really. She asks me to come in to take a class so I can experience the yoga that is taught in this studio, since apparently it is completely different from the Integral Hatha/Vinyasa that I am experienced in. Fine. I get to the location and, long story short, she was short with me, had zero interest in my experience or training, charges me for the class, and then tries to upsell me a teacher training program for the style of yoga that she teaches in the school. Besides the fact that the class was poorly taught and the place was creepy looking, I couldn't get over the fact that I was charged for a class I was forced to take. I left disappointed and feeling scammed but fortunately, I got over it by crossing the street and going to a real yoga studio. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

OK so the website is not even close to what this place is really like. It's dark, dingy and borderline creepy. I made an on-line reservation and when I eventually found this place in the back ways of the Ditmars Train stop I wanted to turn around. But when you make the reservation on-line they take your credit card and then have a cancellation notice. If you don't show up they will charge you anyway. Anyway, we go in and I'm pretty sure no one in the place is certified to do massage and by the time I was done I was absolutely sure. By having her lean on my shoulder blade with her forearm for about 10 minutes I didn't feel relaxed but more confused. I wish I would have turned around and never shown up. I don't understand. I went to the yoga studio twice but the door was locked. I called Lalita and left 2 voice messages but there were no reply. Has Creative Vibrations Yoga Studio run out of business? I'm worried because I had purchased a 10-lessons card and only used it three times. Is anyone facing the same issue as me? read more

I've been to the massage and yoga classes. The yoga is fine, but the massage is terrible. you get placed on a dirty table and then covered with sheets and fabric that feel unwashed. You can almost feel that the fabric sheets have used oil from other customers on them. It's like a used beach towel. I also wanted just 30 minutes , but she kept trying to up sell me to the full hour for $80. not worth it and I will not return. read more
