I started coming here more than 25 years ago and have been remiss in reviewing this place. I've used Creature Comfort (CC) initially to treat my GSD that had neurological issues. She was greatly helped with acupuncture. My present GSD came to CC for laser treatment for her ankle injury in the last year and a half. Instead of $12,000 that I might have spent on surgery to fuse her ankle ligaments, I was able to rehabilitate her with an ankle brace and holistic treatment; and spent less than $1000 on exams and procedures. I still have laser treatments in my CC "bank" (I purchased a treatment plan) to use if my GSD needs them in the future. I miss being able to bring my pup in to interface with the doctors which has been pretty standard practice at all vet clinics since Covid. But all the technicians that I've met have been pretty awesome.

Still trying to reach the vet after a $750 bill for the biopsy on next steps to treat our pup. Ouch!

I want to love this place, and for the most part we have, but unfortunately I'm having to leave a negative review here since we've been left in the dark after a $750 biopsy. Hopefully someone sees this and can return our calls so I can remove this - I've never done this before but I'm not sure where else to turn. We spent $750 to biopsy a few lumps on our pup (Branson) and was told we'd have results back in a day. After two days, I called and was told the results weren't in yet (No problem... these things happen). I called again two days thereafter, and was told the results were in but a doctor hadn't looked at them yet. (Kind of a bummer, as we've been worried about him) I finally got a voicemail five days ago while I was at work reading through the results of the biopsy, and have been trying to reach someone since to seek treatment. The mass (we learned was a bacterial infection from the voicemail) has since grown considerably worse, and we're getting increasingly concerned. I called twice today, and was told by the receptionist the second time that the vet was definitely going to return my call before the end of the day, but once again this never happened. Please call us back! The voicemail mentioned we'd either need surgery, topical ointment, or essential oils to treat Branson, and we're just trying to figure out next steps here as this infection continues to get worse, and we're happy to edit/delete this review if we can finally get a hold of you.

This is my cat Bear who recently had a vet emergency

I have been going to Creature Comforts for years - mainly for my cats - they saw my old cat Boo and now my current cats, Teddy and Bear. I usually see Dr. Johnson but I have also seen Dr. Taylor. I love that this practice is holistic and provides natural solutions for animals medical problems. My cats recently had colds and they were treated holistically and that really worked. My cat, Bear also recently had an emergency urinary block and they used more traditional vet techniques so they can really do everything. They apply what is needed to the situation. I like how they explain things and are really working on the whole animal not just the symptoms. I am working with them to get my cats on better food and give them essential oils. So lots of good things. Love this vet!

We recently adopted a pair of young Shitzu dogs (littermates?) from Oakland SPCA and wanted to establish care as well as make sure we were starting with a clean bill of health. I was actually a bit nervous because I knew these new adoptees are fairly shy and seem to become quite anxious when separated from each other. Grace was an incredibly helpful and greeted us at the front desk. The other staff were just returning from lunch but everyone was friendly and welcoming. (in the past, I had been to other vet clinics where I sensed a certain level of being understaffed or some level of compassion fatigue, but there was a very positive vibe here). We had arrived early and Grace took some extra time to sit with the dogs so they could adjust to being handled by new people. She educated me on the process and showed us all to one exam room. This was so reassuring as I was able to stay with the duo while Dr. Johnson examined the other. Even though the examinations were brief, Dr. Johnson was very engaging and stayed with us for the entire initial time we had for the visit. All of my questions were answered and Dr. Johnson was quite thorough in providing education and suggestions on healthcare issues specific to these smaller breeds (I grew up with bigger dogs so this is a new adventure to say the least). The dogs calmed down a lot in the presence of the vet and the staff which was in of itself a special treat for our new family. While our dogs received excellent care, they also received a clean bill of health (it is always good to get a second opinion after adopting. I am so glad I followed my human instincts and chose Creature Comfort because even though I hope I only have to come back for check ups or preventative holistic care), one never knows when an illness or injury might occur. Better to be prepared and know where to take these precious pups if an emergency occurs. Also, rather than promote or sell any of the care services offered, Dr. Johnson remained professionally grounded in educating me and encouraging me to seek out the most cost effective approach to training, grooming, etc. Our two new doggies left there much calmer than when they entered, in fact one of them seemed to be happy just to lounge in the exam room. I know this human also felt a sigh of relief to know Dr. Johnson, Grace and the others are there if we should need them.

I've been meaning to write a review for the longest time, but my feelings of gratitude are so deep that it is actually emotionally hard to express my thoughts. But I'll try. I brought my 11 year-old Roxie Heart to Creature Comfort in January 2020. She had a mass growing in her abdomen and we took her at midnight to VCA emergency- and we were told that night to put Roxie Heart down- "tonight- it's cancer, strongly suggest put her to sleep tonight." We thankfully had the presence of mind to decline - despite the shock- and the next day begged to be seen at Creature Comfort for a second opinion. We came in so late- it was 6 pm and a rainy day- but they very nicely MOVED THEIR SCHEDULE (!!) around and saw us. True enough: the prognosis wasn't good, but they referred us to Sage, they gave us words of encouragement - THEW WERE KIND. They gave us Chinese herbs to help contain the bleed, and Roxie made it a couple of days until surgery (kind of important!!)- and Sage was able to do an amazing job. (She had a tumor the size of a cantaloupe and her spleen had to be removed- A whole other story!!!) Roxie went on the road to recovery and got back to her healthy self. A few months later- Roxie became diabetic, where she required 2 insulin shots daily and a special diet. Dr. Williams and Dr. Johnson were the two vets we saw most often- they were wonderful. We were given recipes, prescribed holistic supplements, Freestyle Libre to monitor her glucose, eye drops to help with her cataracts. They communicated with me, heard me out, listened to my concerns, comforted me when I was worried. They were engaged so deeply in Roxie's care- I mean, truly, everyone in the practice cared and was responsive. This was so important to me- phone accessibility! They answer the phone and talk to you: for example, Roxie the Diabetic Naughty Mutt got into my backpack and ate a lollipop one day. Panicked, I called and they walked me through- "did she eat the wrapper, was it sugar free (fake sugar can be deadly), did she eat the stick?" In that moment I realized just how lucky we were to have Creature Comfort- frankly, no other vet I know would have taken the time to do that- they didn't even charge me for a consult, and essentially calmed me down. Roxie thrived and gave us 2 more beautiful years post-surgery, driven by the care and follow up of the doctors at Creature Comfort. Dr. Williams holds a dear and special place in our hearts because she truly took Roxie's care to heart- Roxie got pneumonia in November 2021- the care she received from Dr. Kirsten Williams was phenomenal. Being 11- the pneumonia could have been fatal for Roxie- but we had Thanksgiving, Christmas and she got to turn 13. Unfortunately - in January 2022- our dear Roxie's liver had gotten riddled with cancer. It was going to be time to let go- but just as she received love and care in life, Dr. Kirsten Williams and Creature Comfort were also going to make sure she received the care she deserved as she got her angel wings. Dr. Kirsten made room in her busy week- we live kinda far awary- but she drove to our home... our dear Roxie went in the most beautiful way possible. Her trusted vet was there in life and in her passing. We hugged her, loved on her - when she passed, it was Dr. Kirsten's kind voice that we heard... and it helped ease our pain. It was Dr. Kirsten took her... wrapped in her blanket. We knew she was cared for, even in death, treated with love and respect. After Roxie passed, Creature Comfort sent us flowers, and a couple of weeks later, a very touching card with kind words from everyone in the office. We picked up Roxie's ashes from the clinic a couple of weeks ago- and I'm just so thankful for the last 2 years that were a gift past that night 2 years ago...... So, am I able to quantify my gratitude with 5 stars? It's not possible, as Creature Comfort deserves a milllion, a billion stars!!!! They are a true asset to their profession. Thank you to each and every person there. Please keep doing the good work that you do. And to Dr. Jenny- thank you. What a wonderful haven you have created for animals and for those of us who love them.

Thank you Dr. Williams not only for the advise, but listening to my input and concerns. I thank you for being a part of Gabby's journey even at the end. You and your staff have been wonderful. To anyone who reads my review, my dog had cancer, laryngeal paralysis, and blind, but with help of Dr Williams and staff I felt that she was well taken care of while she was alive, and even in her crossing. I couldn't ask for a better or more knowledgeable vet. When the time comes and I get another dog, I will be back. Thank you.

She validated my every fear and concern about deciding when it was time to let him go. When it came time for his last appointment, he was seen by Dr. Caraballo. We had not met her before, but the compassion and warmth she showed us made a world of a difference in a very sad day. For once, I wasn't automatically crazy or a "helicopter" pup parent. He really gets it. Dr. Richter had a very reasonable grasp on my dog's history and the reasons for his issues. I am so looking forward to continuing treatment with him in the coming months, focusing on the gut and on my dog's past mold exposure. I can't say enough about what it means to be truly heard and understood by a vet, and have them speak to you on a well-informed level. After my dog's cytology results came back, Dr. Lampart called me after the clinic had already closed. In her voicemail, she sounded saddened and asked me to call her back within an hour, but she deliberately gave me no indication of what the results actually were. I immediately called back well within the hour she requested, only to discover the clinic routed all after-hours calls directly to voicemail. I left a message immediately. She never called me back. The next day, after repeatedly calling the clinic trying to get answers, I finally learned the truth: my dog had an extremely aggressive form of cancer. The way this was handled was inexcusable. The voicemail made me think there was still hope. Instead, the results had already been received, and I spent nearly an entire day anxiously waiting while the clinic withheld a diagnosis that turned out to be devastating. If you're going to tell someone to call back within an hour, you should either answer the phone, check your voicemail, or make arrangements for someone else to deliver time-sensitive results. Instead, I was left wondering while my dog had a rapidly progressing disease. After learning the diagnosis, I specifically requested to work with another veterinarian because I no longer felt comfortable communicating with Dr. Lampart. Rather than respecting that request, the clinic spent over a week delaying medications my dog desperately needed. I repeatedly requested prednisone--a medication commonly used to improve comfort and, in cases like my dog's, potentially provide additional weeks or even months of quality life. Instead of acting with urgency, I was repeatedly told they were waiting for approval from the very veterinarian whose handling of this situation had already destroyed my confidence. Every day matters with an aggressive cancer. When I finally expressed my frustration and said their delays were costing my dog precious time, the receptionist immediately became defensive, told me she would not be spoken to that way, and informed me a manager would be calling me. There was no empathy. No acknowledgment of why someone might be emotional after being told their dog is dying. Just defensiveness. This clinic seems to have forgotten what veterinary medicine is supposed to be about. People don't bring in a pet--they bring in a family member. We trust veterinarians not only for their medical expertise but also for their compassion, communication, and professionalism during the hardest moments imaginable. I spent thousands of dollars on diagnostics, treatments, and medications. The least I expected was timely communication, empathy, and prompt medical care when every day counted. Instead, I experienced poor communication, delays in treatment, a lack of urgency, and staff who appeared more concerned with defending themselves than helping a dying animal. I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone who values clear communication, compassion, or timely care. Losing a beloved pet is heartbreaking enough. No family should have to fight the very people they're paying to help them while their companion's time is slipping away.
