Me trying to feed Pumpkin formula from a spoon.
    Jessica S.

"I don't know where to begin about how incredible my experience was with the team at Veg. They saw me right away, took fabulous care of Pumpkin and were very attentive and informative. AND they did not charge me for my visit! AND they gave me kitten food to take home. AND I asked them if I could give them each a hug. They are all truly love animals and helping families during what is a stressful time." All of them! Even the incredible woman who greeted me and checked us in."

This place is pretty good for an emergency vet. We were there because one of our dogs had Coccidiosis and wanted to make sure she didn't become dehydrated from her vommiting and diarrhea, in addition for prevention for the second dog. So not a big emergency, but just a needed visit. Once you call, they are pleasant and send you a link to check in before you get there. Upon arrival, you are pleasantly greeted and we were placed in a waiting room all to ourselves. Within 15 minutes the doctors /vet tech arrived to examine our dogs. And as we waited on a comfy sofa, we didn't really mind the wait. We were there for 2 hours. They did make us feel like we weren't forgotten. Several doctors came to check on us throughout our stay. They didn't have the medications needed to treat our dog, but they did handle all the symptoms til we could get our dog to our regular vet. Plus they didn't charge for our second dog because they couldn't really him. Not the cheapest spot, but what emergency vets are?

I would like to compliment the young woman at the front desk who was working the afternoon of 6/27/26. My pup was clearly very agitated, and I noticed there were several patients in the waiting room. I thought it would be best for everyone if I stayed by the entrance. She was incredibly understanding and immediately offered to triage my pup right where we were, which I truly appreciated. Once they discovered what was wrong, everything moved very quickly, and I was understandably very distraught and emotional. During that stressful moment, she showed such kindness and compassion--she even offered us bottled water. It may seem like a small gesture, but it meant so much to us and made a difficult situation a little more manageable. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. To and Nurse Mei for their swift action as soon as they identified what was wrong with my pup, Mia. Their urgency, professionalism, and compassion made all the difference during such a frightening time. They also allowed my partner and me to remain by Mia's side throughout her treatment, which meant so much to us. Dr. To continually reassured us that Mia was going to be okay, answering all of our questions with patience and kindness. We truly felt heard and supported every step of the way. I would also like to thank the entire team involved in Mia's care. From the day shift staff who worked hard to start her IV, to Nurse Mei for making sure Mia was kept warm and comfortable, to the night shift team led by Dr. Wong for seamlessly taking over her care--everyone showed incredible dedication. A special thank you as well to the gentleman nurse who assisted with Mia's discharge this morning. He was gentle, kind, and so thoughtful while removing her IV and EKG stickers, making the process much less stressful for Mia (and for us). From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for saving Mia's life. We are forever grateful.

    Amazing amazing vet techs!!

My cat had blood in his urine so even though I had an appointment already scheduled with my primary vet a few days out I knew I had to bring my cat in (to check for anything fatal/immediately serious). Of course since it was an emergency/not planned I had to bring my 9 and 2 year old in also which I was dreading. Right away when walking in I felt immediately better. 1) Clean open space - I thought I might have to be stuck in a small space with my kids and cat but instead loved how there were vets/techs treating pets in different well-prepared areas of the room. There are rooms available if needed but thankfully my cat was able to be seen right away on a portable space. 2) Fast service - we were seen right away and even though the testing took 3+ hours (my cat's bladder was really really small and I opted to do the urinalysis even when it didn't work the first time) i appreciated how we were given a space right away 3) Staff professionalism and friendliness - all the staff seemed warm, approachable, friendly and I didn't get the feeling that anyone was trying to "upsell" me...I know going to any vet is expensive. That's just the way it is! I didn't feel pressured or guilted into making more expensive decisions though. 4) The BIGGEST reason for a 5+ star review is the waiting area/entertainment available for the kids!!! After my phone almost ran out of batteries a staff member told me there was a play area/waiting room for the kids and that saved the day!! I was able to focus on being there for my cat and my kids were hanging fun! They really thought of everything to make their patient-parents-family feel welcome. Cookies, hot water, coffee, tea was available in the waiting room along with toys! And since my phone DID completely die when my daughter tried to call me they even had a phone charger available (different chargers for different phones). In the end my cat ended up being fine and just needed a prescription so I'm very thankful for the whole experience!!

    Acorn

Our cat Acorn experienced a serious urinary blockage that turned into three emergency visits, a hospital stay, and ultimately surgery over the course of about two weeks. Needless to say, it was an incredibly stressful time for our family -- but the entire team at VEG made all the difference. Reception, nurses, doctors, everyone! From our very first visit, everyone we interacted with was supportive, patient, and genuinely caring. Every step of the process was explained thoroughly, and we never once felt rushed or left in the dark, even when we called with questions in between visits. We were at the clinic almost daily for two weeks, and that level of care and attentiveness never wavered. We especially want to thank Dr. Gascoyne, Dr. To, and Dr. Dewlaney, who we were in close contact with us throughout Acorn's treatment and recovery. Each of them brought expertise, compassion, and excellent communication to every conversation, and we always felt like Acorn was in the best possible hands. Acorn is now fully recovered and back to his happy, healthy self, and we credit that to the dedication of this entire team. We can't thank them enough for the way they cared for both Acorn and us during such a difficult time. Highly recommend VEG to anyone facing a pet emergency. George & Alicia & Acorn

Our little dude, Virgil. Thank you for saving his life, VEG!!
    Angela M.

These people saved my cat's life and the gratitude I have for them is hard to put into words. My cat, Virgil, who's a year and a half old, suddenly started showing signs of straining in the litter box one Friday afternoon. We have two set up for our cats, and he'd go from one to the other, visibly straining but not producing anything. But he was silent, and I only happened to notice it because I saw how he kept going back and forth between the front room to the boxes and back. I immediately called our vet, who told me to take him to an ER right away because it was possible he was experiencing a urinary blockage, which is deadly in male cats. They recommended VEG. We took him in and they wasted no time taking us into a back room to start examining him and getting all the background info they needed. They call this an open concept hospital, meaning that while they have private exam rooms, all of the procedures happen out in the open in the middle of their airy, large space. I had mixed feelings about it, plus I'm not sure how the animals feel about it when they're already distressed, but I also won't act like I know more than the experts. They also have rooms to accommodate pet owners who would like to stay overnight with their animals so they can get some sleep. This facility is open 24/7. Virgil did have a urinary blockage and needed to stay for two nights to have his bladder drained, be put on antibiotics, and observed to make sure he could pass urine on his own. Luckily he was resilient and made it out ok, but it was a very scary weekend that could've ended differently if I didn't notice and act as fast as I did. The doctors were extremely communicative, calling and texting throughout the days and nights to update us. One minor critique of this is that their text service is one-way only, meaning you can't reply via text, you can only receive them. I do think that should be updated. Virgil received the best possible care and he's still here because of them. Now, I'm not going to pretend this wasn't one of the biggest expenses we've ever had -- it was over $7000 in the end, much of that due to the cost of the overnight stays. It is insane how much pet care costs, and the amount due was eye watering. I can't recommend enough that every pet owner get pet insurance because you never know when something like this is going to happen. Most of the cost was covered by our insurance, but we still had to pay $3000 out of pocket. I'm not sure what the cost would've been at another hospital, but I can at least say the doctor was extremely thorough in explaining what every line item on the bill was and why they needed to do every test and procedure they did. Virgil is home and made a great recovery, and we're extremely thankful for everything VEG did to help him and to educate us on how to try to prevent this from happening again if at all possible. Thank you, VEG.

My little girl made it to 18 years old, thank you VEG for being so kind, gentle and professional. RIP Rio.
    Kehaulani L.

We brought our 18-year-old dog in around 4 AM after she had been lethargic and regurgitating for hours. She was barely responsive, and we were honestly terrified. From the moment we arrived, the staff was ready for us--someone was at the door waiting, which immediately put us at ease. The facility is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The open-concept emergency area lets you stay with your pet the entire time, which meant everything to us. Sadly, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to put our sweet girl down after 18 years. But I can't say enough about how the staff handled everything. Every single person was kind, compassionate, and professional. We were there from 4 AM until about 2 PM, and not once did we feel rushed. They gave us the time, space, and support we needed to be with her through her final moments, and treated her with so much love and dignity. They also showed the same care to my mom and me during one of the hardest days of our lives. Easy 5 stars. I hope I never need emergency services again, but if I do, I would come back here without hesitation. TY to all the staff.

Veterinary Emergency Group in San Ramon saved our senior cat's life. We rushed in during the middle of the night with Kiba suffering from a life-threatening urinary blockage. It was one of the most frightening experiences our family has ever faced. The team responded immediately with urgency and professionalism, but what truly stood out was their compassion. The receptionist staff was incredible. They handled all payment and administrative details with patience and clarity while we were exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed. They made a chaotic moment feel organized and manageable. Dr. Caitlyn Wilson took care of Kiba through the night and was exceptional. She explained everything thoroughly, answered every question, and treated both our cat and our family with genuine empathy. This was our first emergency of this magnitude, and she guided us with steady confidence. Nurse Gina provided overnight care and was outstanding. She is warm, deeply caring, and a wealth of knowledge. Knowing she was caring for our cat gave us peace during an incredibly stressful night. When Dr. Casa took over the next phase of care, she continued that same level of excellence. She was attentive, professional, and compassionate. The continuity of care was seamless, and we always felt our cat was in capable hands. They also worked with our budget and helped us navigate options without pressure. Five stars is not enough. This team gave us our cat back.

I can't thank VEG enough for the care they gave my cat during an emergency visit. He had an open wound, and the moment we walked in, we were triaged within minutes. What impressed me most was that the actual doctor was already in the room--I didn't have to repeat the story a dozen times to different people, which is such a relief in a stressful situation. From there, the vet techs came in to check vitals, and before I knew it, we were in the procedure area. I was shocked (in a good way!) that I was allowed to stay and watch--it really gave me peace of mind to see everything happening in real time. Dr. Nina Matsuo and Nurse/RVT Destiny were absolutely wonderful. Kind, patient, and so sweet--they walked me through every step and made sure I understood what was happening. Their compassion really made a scary situation so much easier to handle. While I truly hope I never have to step foot in an emergency vet again, VEG will always be the first place I think of if I ever do. To Dr. Matsuo, Nurse Destiny, and the entire VEG team--thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my sweet boy and for treating both of us with so much kindness. I will never forget the way you turned such a frightening moment into one filled with care and reassurance.

Little guy about to go home

It might make me emotional even writing this review, but VEG saved our kitty's life. Two weeks ago he escaped the house and fell out of a tree; we came rushing up to VEG with a barely breathing, bleeding, banged up little guy. I had called ahead and multiple staff came rushing out to get him, and went to work immediately. Based on what we were being told, we thought he wouldn't make it. Pneumothorax, fever, broken leg, sky high lactate levels, the whole nine yards. We had the kids say goodbye and everything. But between amazing care at VEG, a femur surgery at another clinic we were referred to, and a stubborn will to live, he's still with us. I don't think I was in my right mind that night, but thinking back I appreciated everything from the open floor plan where we had access to him at all times, staff constantly checking on us and giving us updates (both treatment and financial status), a comfortable waiting room, giving our boys quarters for the stuffy machine, and just the general understanding of the staff. I think it's a given emergency care is pricey, so we had that in mind at all times, and they were able to accommodate the options we chose. Special thanks to Dr Sana and truly everyone else we interacted with that night.

it's already so hard saying goodbye to our beloved pets. thankfully, the staff at VEG made that process as smooth as it could be, given the circumstances. if you need empathy, patience and knowledgable staff from the first call to exiting the facility, this is your place. the receptionist was super kind, offering cookies and warm/cold temp water when i was falling apart and stressed out. while also being efficient in getting my info/the details of my chinchilla's condition over to the doctors. the doctors were very honest and caring of my chinchilla. it's hard enough finding an exotic animal vet near where i am but thankfully they have colleagues with more experience with chinchillas/rodents. they were very sweet to my baby chester. they also have a space with separate rooms with cozy lighting, tissues and a comfy couch, for people to say goodbye to their pets. as i was saying bye to him, they provided different options for cremation and offered to take fur clippings for me. they were very respectful when taking him away because they wrapped him in the blanket that i had brought him in. i requested his whiskers, his tail bristles, and fur from his leg area. they went the extra mile as they captured his white chest fur, plenty of his long whiskers and the softest part of his fur which belonged to the top of his head (that i had kissed prior to letting him go) ultimately, they brought clarity in a situation that i hadn't prepared for and instead of me scrambling in confusion, they were able to guide me through. shoutout to the staff at VEG!

Every team member we interacted with, including the veterinarian, was incredible--kind, thorough, and very transparent. They walked me through all of the recommended testing and the costs before doing anything. They even performed one test at no charge. At one point, they came back and said there was one additional blood test they could run, but they were on the fence about whether it was really necessary, so they explained the cost and let me decide. I really appreciated that. They felt 99% confident Loki had a stomach ulcer and specifically did NOT recommend jumping immediately to an expensive ultrasound. Instead, they suggested treating him at home first and doing the ultrasound only if he didn't improve. We went home with medications, and they even gave me prescription limited-ingredient food to take home at no charge. To top it off, they called the next day to check on Loki and see how he was doing. I was incredibly impressed with the care Loki received and, just as importantly, with how thoughtful and transparent they were about costs and testing. I would absolutely go back to SAGE--although I really hope I don't have any more cat emergencies anytime soon!

It turned out that Gui Gui had a serious infection in his hock--septic arthritis. I truly believe Dr. Haburjak's careful examination, clinical judgment, quick action, and genuine concern for Gui Gui made all the difference. His prompt identification of the problem and immediate referral helped Gui Gui receive the urgent treatment he needed. In my heart, I truly believe he saved Gui Gui's life. I feel incredibly lucky to have such an amazing surgeon and such a wonderful team in the area where I live. It gives me so much peace of mind knowing that Gui Gui is in the hands of people who genuinely care about their patients. I cannot thank Dr. Haburjak and his entire team enough for everything they did for Gui Gui. I truly appreciate their kindness, professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I would like to preface by saying that I don't like leaving poor reviews for companies…read more First, I'd like to start by saying the welcoming staff IN PERSON here was great. Very friendly and thoughtful. My complaints are not directly to anyone, but mostly being misled by what this hospital can do and when it can be done. I scheduled a consultation with internal medicine for August 4th. At the time of scheduling, I let them know that I was referred to them for a rhinoscopy and CT for my dog. They told me over the phone they sometimes can do the procedure the same day but it's uncommon. I understood that but still scheduled, hopeful that they could still do a rhinoscopy in the near future as it was something my primary vet urged me to do soon. They had me pay the consultation fee on same day to confirm my appointment, which I didn't question at the time. Keep in mind, they knew I needed a rhinoscopy with internal medicine specifically at the time I made this call. At the time of our appointment, we met with Dr. Louis who was very knowledgeable and kind. When I asked him about scheduling the rhinoscopy, he said they do not have the equipment needed for that procedure at this hospital (IronHorse) and he is only in the hospital that has the equipment (OakVet) ONCE A MONTH. Adding to that, he was out of town in August so we were looking at September. When I asked the nurse about September, she said there was a line so it's possible we couldn't get in. At this time, I was feeling very frustrated because I felt so misled that they knew the procedure couldn't be done anytime soon but still took my money for the consultation fee and led me to believe this hospital could perform the procedure. If I knew OakVet was the one that had the equipment, I would've just scheduled there. But this information was never offered to me over the phone at the time of scheduling the initial consult. I was told the estimate for the future procedure would be sent to me by the end of the week (this was Tuesday 8/4) and didn't receive anything by Friday. I called on Friday and they said end of day, and I did not receive anything end of day. I called again on Monday and they said they are backed up, I should have it soon. It's now 8/16 and I have not received a call or email with my estimate. Overall, the communication and professionalism of some staff at this hospital is not something I'd subject myself to again. I think once they finish the merge with OakVet, it could function better but if you're looking to get a rhinoscopy and CT, I would look elsewhere. We were able to go to Sage Dublin that same week and have the procedure done. All other vets in the area that I called were very transparent about how booked they were and if they have the equipment to perform the procedure I asked about.

All staff were kind, patient, & considerate. Spencer & Dr Gabrielle were very understanding of our situation and gave us all information necessary to make informed decisions. They were great at prioritizing care based on level of emergency and they exceeded our expectations every step of the way. Our very unfriendly kitty received wonderful care and this facility will be missed when it is shut down by greedy VCA (owned by MARS Inc- yes the candy!) at the end of the month. More money in the MARS corporation's pockets and less care for pets in need. Such a pity.

This review is for the Internal Medicine Department, which is separate from the emergency room…read more(this department is in the building in the back of the parking lot). I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.

My Dogs vet was unavailable and I reluctantly went to Sage to have her eye looked at as she was not…read moreacting right with one eye and from previous experience of how quickly a dogs eye can go to nothing if not treated as the case with a previous dog. Best thing that ever happened was going to Sage as pepper got the care she needed by Vet- Lindsay Swirble. She is the only vet we have gone to in Bay Area that actually has experience with pugs. Dr. Linsey Swirble saved my dog (pepper)with her caring, throughness and experience. My dogs vet would not of even had the required equipment in their office or experience that she had a foxtail (1 inch) lodged behind her eye. She examined my dog with such care even putting dye and a black light to check for laceration. My previous pug lost his eye because a laceration was missed from a bad examination until I took him to an eye specialist a week later who said it was too late and it could of been fixed if diagnosed sooner. If I had taken that dog to Dr. Linsey Swirble at sage I know he would of also had his eye today as my dear pepper . I will drive 2 hours to see her from now on just to get the right care. I have had many dogs and vets over the years and this doctor is the best. She treated my dog like she was her own child. If you think its expensive to get ER care it was not. It was about $60 more then regular vet visit but it got fixed right away, correctly. My dogs eye is worth far more than $60. They have equipment that regular clinics do not and have the best veterinarian in Bay Area Dr. Lindsay Swirble. My only regret was not taking my previous dog there who did lose his eye by 2 regular vet visits that charged and misdiagnosed when I know Dr. Swirble would of known how to fix him the first time by her thoroughness and caring before that dog lost an eye. If you are in doubt if the cost will be too much or the care is any good don't hesitate. Dr. Swirble is amazing and I will go when she is working to make sure my dogs are in good hands. Take your dog there. Also, there was an ophthalmologist in house Dr. Tomo wiggans who was fantastic and together fixed my little pepper

They worked up an estimate that was quite large. The estimate had a low end and high end numbers. Veronica sat with me and explained each charge along with how and when it may apply. We played around with the numbers to help us fit it within an easier budget. Veronica was very thorough, patient and informative. My baby was sick so we had to do something. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Within a matter of a short period, diagnostics came in with not so good news that left us with two options. Neither of which I was prepared for. After hearing the extent of my babies sickness, it was evident we needed to set her free. As painful as those words and that decision was, it had to be done. We drove back to that hospital to be with our baby. Sage has a special room just for the letting go process. Although we were not ready to say goodbye, we appreciated the quick return on labs and such, that gave us the answers needed to make the right decision for our girl. If you have been trying and struggling to piecemeal answers for your ill pet, I'd suggest going to this one stop shop. They have the doctors, staff, equipment and specialists on hand to get you the answers your pet and your family deserves. We love you Tabitha and miss you greatly. You were a very special, sweet, loving pup that contributed so much to everyone you met.

The staff were absolutely amazing, friendly caring and patient. Dr. Hilty listened, was informative, gave me several options for what was going on. I appreciated him and the staff. If in need again, I would return for any future medical emergency needs. They said they were trying to onboard specialized doctors to be onsite. That would be perfect for the area. He came in…read moreafter suffering a traumatic body wall hernia following a fight that he started but definitely couldn't finish. As scary as the situation was, every member of the team treated us with compassion, kindness, and professionalism from the moment we walked through the door. They took the time to explain Leo's injuries, the surgery he needed, the possible complications, and the financial estimate. Even though we were terrified, we never felt rushed or left in the dark. The surgeon kept us updated, answered every question honestly, and made sure we understood exactly what was happening. During surgery, they found that Leo's intestines had protruded through the torn body wall and were very inflamed, but thankfully they were still healthy enough that they did not need to remove any of his intestines. They carefully checked for leakage, thoroughly cleaned the area because of the dog bite, and successfully repaired the body wall. We are so grateful for the skill and expertise that went into his care. What stood out just as much as their medical expertise was their compassion. Everyone treated Leo with such kindness, and they treated our family with the same care during one of the most stressful experiences we've ever been through. Today, Leo has made a full recovery and is completely back to his usual mischievous self. Our little "tough guy" has officially retired from picking fights with dogs many times his size, and we couldn't be more thankful that this team gave him that chance. They didn't just save our dog--they saved a beloved member of our family. They also saved my daughter's best friend. She would have been absolutely devastated if we had lost him, and because of this incredible team, she still gets to grow up with the little dog she loves so much. Thank you for giving our family more time with Leo. We will never forget your kindness, your honesty, and your incredible care. We recommend this hospital without hesitation. Five stars truly aren't enough.
