I had been taking my cats (now down to only 1 cat) to a different vet and had a few disappointing experiences. I went in for ear problems with my cat and they wanted to pull a tooth and didn't even look in my cats ears! I decided to post on facebook Lamorinda Families asking for vet recommendations. No one recommended the other vet - but numerous recommendations for Moraga Veterinary Hospital. I called to make an appointment and just the difference in the way the call was answered and how I was treated on the phone...well it was just so pleasant and courteous. I made an appointment. Showed up and had the good fortune to meet Dr Lee. Wow what a difference from the last vet. She was professional and caring. She swabbed my cats ears and looked at it under a microscope to see if their was any bacteria, etc. she prescribed some medicine, talked me through the options and how to administer it. I asked her about the tooth that 'needed to be pulled'. She examined it and her conclusion - don't pull it. She touched it and the cat didn't flinch - so it wasn't painful. Moraga Veterinary Hospital will always hold a special place in our hearts. They performed orthopedic surgery on our tiny 1.7 lb kitten, Sharky, and completely changed her life. We found her on the streets with severe facial and arm injuries--consistent with being thrown from a moving car. We didn't know if she would ever walk again, but we knew we had to try. Dr. Kidd and his team went above and beyond to give her that chance--and because of them, she now walks, runs, jumps, and climbs with so much energy, confidence, and joy. I live in Berkeley and used to go to Berkeley Dog and Cat for all my previous dogs' care. I met Dr. Lee there and I liked her alot and settled on her as my vet. Then the business changed and Dr. Lee went out to Moraga Veterinary Hospital. I have followed her out there although it's a bit of a trek from Berkeley. However, it's like finding Dr. Marcus Welby for pets between Dr. Lee and the incredible staff of Moraga Veterinary Hospital. They have a dog entrance and a cat entrance. The staff is on their toes and absolutely superb. It's the old fashioned days of patient care and such a good attitude, it's worth the trek. My present dog had heartworm before I got him and he is very vet office adverse. That staff and Dr. Lee handle him like the pros they are. And even smile and laugh at his frantic skittering to get out of there. I am so glad I found this group! read more

I was told to wait 18 months to neuter due to Monday being a large breed dog, so I was a bit nervous when I heard that the surgery would be a bit more invasive due to a testicle that did not descend (after my first well puppy exam). I went to a vet in Concord and was quoted a bit over $3000. I was fine with it until my friend told me that it sounded a bit high; and to go to her vet in Moraga. My first thought was, "I ain't going to Moraga where the prices will be higher; because everyone has money in that town." When I called to get a quote over the phone I wasn't surprised that they couldn't do that. I was surprised that they couldn't even estimate within $500. (I understand why though, but I would not be deterred) So I said, "Ok, how about this? How about I tell you my quote that I got and I will determine my plan by your answer?" I swear the gal was trying to be so professional but she may have snorted; I could then tell that my quote was a bit high from the other place. Needless to say the cost of my neuter was literally $1000 less. A THOUSAND dollars less. The last vet also seemed annoyed that they had to have 4 people to try to hold him still for blood work and that they had to literally smoosh him into a corner of the room to trap him. This office didn't even say anything negative about him; not that he was too heavy, that he moves too much, that he has too much hair... What could I say to the last vet, "He is a puppy and he will have many stories to tell you while you try to hold him still." The only thing she said to me was, "At least he is friendly." read more

Dr Lee and the tech (sorry I don't remember her name) were so kind and gentle with my semi-feral outdoor cat who has a dental abscess. I was pretty anxious and had a lot of questions, and they were calm and patient with me. The treatment plan was thoroughly explained, and the tech took extra time to explain how to reconstitute the prescribed antibiotic. I also like the separate cat and dog entrances. The location is good, and there is plenty of parking. I highly recommend this clinic. It is an extra bonus that they will see feral cats. Costs are reasonable and on par with other clinics. read more

A month ago, my beloved cat Cyril had some abnormal lab results. I spent three weeks trying to get our then-vet to explain the report to me and tell me whether I should be worried. She didn't answer my questions when we saw her in person, and she didn't respond to any of my messages. I started to get anxious, imagining the worst. Finally I gave up and made an appointment with Moraga Veterinary Hospital. Everything about our experience there was absolutely wonderful. They have separate waiting rooms for dogs and cats, and I got the sense that they were keeping the whole place as peaceful as possible to reassure the animals. The front office staff and the vet tech were lovely and efficient. Dr. Ian Kidd was having a busy morning, but he gave us a good 30 minutes of his time--examining Cyril and then discussing all of my questions and concerns in great detail. He gave me a wealth of excellent information. I was so relieved to learn that Cyril was ok, I almost burst into tears. Dr. Kidd is probably the kindest, most generous vet I've ever spoken with. I'm grateful to everyone at Moraga Veterinary Hospital, and I'm so glad they're the ones looking after my boy now. read more

Myself and my brother take our dogs here. 5 under their care and honestly prob the best around. They actually know what they are doing, they are clean, my dogs don't get scared going in for appointments which is huge because if my dog freaks out about going inside there's a reason. They don't do that everywhere. My brother drives two hours to bring their dog here and I drive 30 plus. The prices are better overall for teeth cleaning and other things. They don't overcharge and again they do a great job. Highly recommended vet I'm lucky to have my babies cared for here. read more

I've heard really great things about this place so I called to make an appointment as a new patient today. Suzie answered the phone and put me on hold. After being on hold for a minute someone hung up on me. I called back immediately and politely mentioned I just called but was hung up on. Suzie put me on hold again. When she picked up the phone I set an appointment and told her that I needed a regular back-up vet because I cannot get into my vet easily anymore. She then told me, "we don't really want to do that if you have a regular vet". I asked, "should I call somewhere else then?", she said *SIGH* "no we'll do it". I was so shocked, that I had to hang up the phone as I didn't even know why she was treating me this way. I surely don't want to take my cats to a vet where we are not treated kindly. If you are the business owner, please make sure that your front desk treats potential clients with kindness. A good first impression goes a long way. read more

We decided to try a new place closer to home. Buddy the dog was really uncomfortable because of his right ear. They were able to get us in within the hour of calling, ON A FRIDAY!! Our pup had a yeast infection (in his ear) associated with allergies. This has been an ongoing thing and I've been told multiple times will continue. On the regular, Bud was prescribed with Apoquel. However, that never really worked. Dr. Kidd (Sr.) prescribed Ketoconazole before mentioning our unsuccessful history with Apoquel. I'm optimistic we will see results. Because this has been an ongoing problem, we have Mometamax (antibiotic gel) on hand for his ear. Another tip Dr. Kidd gave was to use a syringe when administering the gel. That alone did the trick to get the gel doing it's magic. The bill was beyond reasonable. We've been to the vet multiple times for this before and the bill was well over $200. End of visit, our bill was $126, which included: vet visit, analysis of ear gunk under microscope, shot of steroids (not sure of the name), 2-weeks of Ketoconazole, 2 syringes and lots of helpful information. If you're considering a new veterinarian I highly recommended Dr. William Kidd or his son. As I was told, Dr. Kidd (Sr.) is retired but because of furry animals in need, he helps out from time-to-time. read more

My 16 year old Portuguese Water Dog had a huge & growing tumor removed in a 3 hour surgery and she came out of it smiling. After a days rest she was walking around and more alert than I had seen her in a while. Dr. Kidd was amazing in his skill to do such a delicate operation which was right up against some vital organs. I've been taking my dogs here since 2004. If I had to pick one word to describe this place, it would be honest. They are honest people. Dr Bill and Dr Ian are the best. The staff is also top notch. Many of the office staff have been there for years. Always a good sign. If your pet isn't doing well, and the prognosis is grim, they're going to tell you. They're not going to try and sell you on a bunch of tests and procedures you don't need. They will give you all of the options however, and let you decide. I really appreciate this. Their prices are VERY reasonable for the quality of care your pet receives. The office and exam rooms are always neat and spotlessly clean. I have called with a few minor emergencies over the years and they always get me in the same day. Another thing I greatly appreciate. I would never take my pets anywhere else. read more

Do not use this vet! They killed my dog!! I know this sounds like an intense opener but it's true. It's taken me months to come to terms and be able to speak to this. We dropped our dogs off for routine check up and received phone call from the son dr Ian kidd that Alfie had a heart issues but no way indicated that he would be in cardiac arrest or heart failure when we went to pick him up. We got there and the vet is so dated with machinery and not equipped to handle proper vet care for animal. They had him on cat oxygen machine: All the nurses were in shock and in tears. The older dad vet Dr. Bill Kidd was so horrible screaming at us that he needs the room and our dog isn't got make it. We were in complete shock. Our dogs were our children. Our dog Alfie gave no signs of this nature to be dead the next day. He was full of energy the night and day before. Something clearly went wrong and they won't come clean or tell full story. Horrible owner and son is not educated enough to handle these situations. Worst experience! read more

Hands down the friendliest practice I've ever been to. They treat you and your pets like family. They remember you. My whole family brings their pets to them and not one single complaint (and they are a tough crowd!) Entire staff and vets are so knowledgeable, kind, personable, and friendly. I bring my dog and my two cats to Moraga Veterinary Hospital for check ups and when they aren't feeling well. The staff and Drs are always very kind, accommodating and helpful. My dog is a tripod dog, Dr Kidd and his father did her amputation and they did a wonderful job. I know because my friend has a tripod dog also who did not have a good amputation and is now not doing well at the age of 4 (the amputation on her dog was done by another vet). Our dog and cats have been patients of Bill Kidd's since we moved to Orinda in 1982. He saved our cat, Eggplant, who was hit by a Safeway truck in Moraga Way. Now in Moraga, we continue to take our pets there and having been seeing Ian for almost two years. Petless for almost 6 months, we adopted a new kitten from the SPCA on Saturday. I can not rave enough about this amazing place. I stumbled upon them after our vet was unable to see our pup until 3 weeks out. After researching decided it was worth the distance and if I took the backroads an amazing drive. Will admit was fearful of what the cost would be but headed in positive. As soon as we got there, the building itself is a beautiful gem with plants allllllll around. They have two entrances, dog and cat specific. Greeted and saw the doc almost immediately. FOR THE FIRST time I was spoken to about not just her behavior or what brought her in but also her diet and when a good time to get her fixed would be.. Topics that should be normal but my prior vet would NEVER express direction or give advice rather opted for really up to you and what you feel comfortable with. They reviewed her medical chart and even advised which vaccines should be given hands down and which we could do with out. Sincerely this restored my outlook, they are not in it for monetary reasons but actually looking out for the pets. I immediately booked her surgery feeling 1000000x more secure with them. Kicked out last vet to the curb and never looking back! 10/10. See you guys in October! read more

I have had great experiences with Moraga Veterinary Hospital. Today wasn't the best. I talked to Suzie on the phone about a same day appointment for my dog who is having some pain consistent with an ear infection. I gave her my name and phone number at 830 am to see if she could get our dog in. I called back at 10 am and I didn't feel like she responded as though she was concerned at all. I felt un-valued. I run a health care business and would hope that my caring staff could better show concern for a patient that they couldn't manage to squeeze into the schedule that day. I hope this is just a one and done bad experience, I have only good things to say about the doctors. read more

Dr. Kidd has been seeing our two dogs for 6 years now. He's wonderful. Our dogs have had many special situations, including glaucoma, tooth problems, cysts, and even pnuemonia. He's had to perform various procedures as a result, and he's been very compassionate each time, making sure that the dogs get the best treatment possible and remaining sensitive to my fears. He's called me personally after each of these surgeries to see how the dog was doing. And when my dog's eye issues required more specialized attention, he referred me to a good veterinary opthalmologist. During checkups, he is thorough and honest. He does not try to shoot the dogs up with a bunch of unnecessary vaccines, and he takes time to answer all of my questions. He even sent me a letter once to answer a question about a rare behavioral problem that required more research. His prices are very reasonable, and he always seems to have availabilities. He's seen us many times at the last minute and on Saturdays. His staff is very loving and kind--you can tell they really enjoy working for him. And his son, who seems great too, just started practicing with him. read more
