Please read and heed the warning before supporting Creekside Resort. Kelley Sill ruined the…read morewedding experience for my parents, and for my sister, the bride. The event contract allowed NO option to cancel the event without Kelley keeping thousands of dollars. After the contract was signed, Kelley showed her true colors. It was too late to cancel the event because she had already collected several thousand dollars that would not be refunded. Most venues will take a percentage of the cost, depending on how long before the event you cancel, but Kelley demanded numerous payments up-front without a detailed explanation of the charges. She was not willing to allow other vendors that were not provided through her. When we contacted other vendors, she went to the bakery behind our backs, and told them not to provide service. If you contract your own cake, then she charges an extra plating fee to clean the silverware and linens. She charged an up-front service fee of $4,500 for her "wedding coordinator" fees, but little to no coordination was performed for this event. My mother and I set up the tables during cocktail hour. Kelley removed a white tablecloth from under the sign-in table right in front of the wedding guests at the reception, telling them that she didn't want marker to get on it because it was an antique. Why expose wedding guests to such behavior? The officiant, Kelley's husband, should be ashamed of the way he treated my family. For example, he was asked to say "Holy Spirit", instead of "Holy Ghost", and he told the couple he would say it ONLY if he could remember. He was very rude, unfriendly, and unkempt. He charged $350, plus tax for his service (in my experience this is usually made as a donation to a Church rather than a set fee for personal service), and he also refused to join my family at the rehearsal dinner OR the reception when so graciously invited. The cabin was not worth $310/night. Kelley also charged half of the room payment 60 days prior to the event, AND there was a 2-night minimum, so guests who came Saturday were NOT given the option to stay at Creekside. The food service was an absolute let-down. The pork at the reception was DRY and tough, the green beans were extremely undercooked, and the rolls were also VERY DRY. The rehearsal dinner food was very meager and bland. Breakfast was even more meager than the dinners, and the staff was certain to make sure no one ate enough to get full. The alcohol package was disgraceful. There is no liquor, but Kelley charges as much for beer and wine as full-bar options cost at other venues. There was also no cash bar option at this. There was also no choice to serve alcohol at the rehearsal dinner. This is definitely dependent on the type of wedding that you want, but it did not suit the bride and groom's wishes. Kelley should be ashamed of herself for not returning the $500 security deposit. Here are the reasons she did not, in her own words: 1. Clean up of litter (including large quantities of cigarette butts, beer tabs, beer cans, bottles, broken glass and other debris) on grounds in multiple areas (parking lots, landscaping and lawns) $140.00 2. Wine glasses broken at the wedding reception (5 x $6 each) = $30.00 3. Staining of tablecloths by blueberry pies (not wedding cake as was agreed upon) brought in ($120). Total deducted = $290.00 Balance returned = $210.00 What kind of catering venue charges for stains on the tablecloths? I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but it was a first for me! Also, individual guests should have been responsible for their areas, NOT my parents!!! My family doesn't even smoke, and it is disgraceful that they should be charged for cleaning up cigarette butts. I also found cigarette butts when we arrived that I graciously threw away. Also, there were no televisions or phones on the property except for a couple of emergency phones outside at random locations. I had friends coming who had left their children at home, and this was a serious concern for them, since there was NO WAY to contact their childcare providers. Communication during the weekend was impossible, even between cabins due to the lack of landline phones and reception. I can understand wanting to get away, but it is possible to have a quiet vacation and still remain connected to loved ones in case of emergency or necessity. In conclusion, I would not recommend wasting any of your money on this sub-par resort with disappointing, low-class service. I wish that I could warn anyone considering staying at Creekside that their money could be better spent at so many other beautiful, welcoming spots in West Virginia. I was born and raised in this Wild and Wonderful state and know it has more to offer than the Creekside. There are so many other places that provide amazing service at great prices where the owners/operators actually WANT you to come and enjoy your experience.

From the moment we decided not to use Creekside's personal vendors (optional) for my daughter's wedding, we were treated with disdain. My lodging of $458.08 per night (2-night minimum) was outdated with slanted floors, old shag carpet, and very few towels/washcloths. No cell phone coverage, internet, or TV service for guests. Closest town was 12 miles if you wanted snacks, lunch, or newspapers. Note: the entire wedding had to be paid in full long before the wedding even occurred. I was not able to cancel this vendor because they do not allow any refunds of payments once you commit. Our invited guests comprised of an architect; a heart surgeon; several military officers; a cardiac nurse; two school principals; a college professor, high school teachers; administrators; business owners; politicians; and a pilot, to name a few. Whether it's common practice or whether it was intentional by Creedside's coordinator, my guests were insulted and inconvenienced when no ice was placed in any glasses at reception nor was any beverage filled with water or tea. Why should a paying customer have to ask for coffee to be prepared and served and dessert spoons and plates be provided at the reception simply because we didn't use Creekside's vendor for our wedding cake? The entire experience provided by Creekside Resort was highly costly and disappointing with no attention to detail. This is not the first large social event I have been involved with, but it will certainly be my last as a customer or a guest at Creekside Resort in Greenville, WV.

We did a split stay between a cabin and the lodge and both had their merits. The cost of the lodge was well worth the upgrade with the beautiful furnishings, cozy atmosphere, complimentary amenities and soaking tub. Ate at both leather flower and stables and loved Stables the most. Highly recommend if you are looking for a true luxury experience.

We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.

I want to preface this review by saying that we did not stay overnight in a room at The Greenbrier,…read morebut we did spend most of the day there, and I'm glad we did. When you pull in, you will be greeted by security at the front gate. We advised them we were there for the bunker tour and to do some shopping and they gave us a parking pass and directions to the best place to park. The resort is iconic, huge and pristine. We walked our dog around the grounds and up to the main building. Unfortunately, even though they say that the resort is dog friendly, there are some areas where dogs are not allowed. So I waited outside while my husband spoke to someone at the front desk about reserving a spot for the bunker tour. When he returned, I went inside while he stayed out front with our pup. When you walk in the decor hits you all at once and, if you are a Fallout fan like I am, everything just feels so familiar and comfortable. The bold, eccentric colors and patterns, the chandeliers and unique furniture... It's all there. I wandered through the shops which are upscale and fun to browse, even if you're just looking. I bought some giant macarons which were priced incredibly reasonably and really enjoyed them. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and even without reservations, we were able to get tickets to the bunker tour. Be advised that they made it very clear to us that getting tickets "day of" is not the standard experience, so I do recommend reserving tickets if you want to do the tour. The vault tour itself is probably closer to four stars, but it's definitely a must. Knowing there was a fully built secret congressional bunker hidden underneath this glamorous resort for decades is wild. You walk through the old dorm rooms and meeting areas and see how it was all set up so long ago. You're not allowed to take any photographs, but I did read some basic information before coming. Still, reading about it and seeing it are two totally different things. It cost well over $100 for the two of us to do the tour and that is before tip so it definitely isn't cheap. It would have also been nice to have more seating, especially for things like watching the video, etc. My feet hurt a little after the tour from standing so long on the hard concrete floors of the bunker. The only reason that we did not end up spending the night is that we really wanted to be inside some of the main buildings and although they do offer dog friendly accommodations, they are only located within certain cottages kind of on the edges or outskirts of the property. There is also a $250 fee for dogs so we decided at the time that it would not be worth it for us, however, full disclosure: we regret that decision. We definitely should have spent the night. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and if I ever get the chance to come back here I will definitely get a room and stay as long as I can, soaking up the ambiance and anemoia.

Slouchy couches, stained carpet pulling away from the walls. The cheapest daily rack rate on a weekday is a whopping $400+/night, not including all their BS fees: $49 daily resort fee per room and 9.75% Historic Preservation Fund, 6% sales tax. SO NOT WORTH IT! Seriously, I get keeping the iconic Draper theme, but you gotta upkeep everything to warrant that price! I stayed here for 3 nights for a conference, and had multiple interactions with staff from calling to make reservations for activities, the bunker tour, dinner at the main dining room, bowling and the conference room facilities. Customer service ranged here from very nice, cheerful and helpful to unaccommodating, aloof, and just plain rude. When asked questions about the facility or amenities, the staff would often give me blank stares or just shrug and say they didn't know. I was checked in by a trainee who did not give any direction on how to get to my room in the BOONIES (Copeland Hills) and we drove around aimlessly until we gave up and went back to valet to get directions. When I asked if I could be in the main hotel with my coworker at check in, another snooty employee (senior or the trainer, I dunno) blatantly said "no, your group is assigned to the cottages", which was 100% a lie because my coworker simultaneously checked in with another trainee and was given a room in the main hotel. The next day, a second coworker was also given a room in the main hotel. They both complained their rooms were creepy feeling, dirty and in need of some major renovations. So I guess depending on how you look at it, I had it better since my cottage in the boonies wasn't as old and was in pretty good shape. The wait staff at the conference was too efficient! I left my untouched dessert literally for a few minutes at my seat and when I returned it was gone! My fiancé did the bunker tour and the bourbon tasting. He was the only one at the bourbon tasting at 5:00pm and no one showed up for the 6:00pm either. At the end, he was given a non itemized bill for $88 (the base price was $65) and then he tipped on top of the $88 thinking that was the base rate! Clearly the astronomical service fees were already embedded in there. Throughout our stay, we wondered where everyone was. Despite being reservation only, the main dining room was at best 25% full when we were there on a Friday night. Everywhere we went: basically empty. The many random sitting rooms, the restaurants, the casino, the bowling alley, indoor pool, the bars. The only activity that had a decent amount of people was the bunker tour. There were many private events we saw set up everywhere though, and our conference alone was about 300. So maybe that's their thing. My coworkers had mini fridges in their room in the main hotel, my room in the cottages did not. My coworker called room service for ice (there are no self service ice machines) and it was delivered 2 hours later when she was sleeping. The room service delivery fee is $5 for the main hotel, but $20 for my cottage in the boonies. Why do I have to pay 4x in delivery fees when I asked to be in the main hotel to begin with? Ridiculous. The Greenbrier is old and busted and riding on the "historic" factor to draw in guests. If I stayed here for leisure and paid for this out of my own pocket, I would be even more pissed.

I stayed here for my 31st birthday at the end of April and had a blast. I arranged everything about 1.5 months before with Cathy, one of the rental ladies on-site who lives there part-time and she was very friendly and helpful. I'm from Roanoke originally so SML has always been a place I've loved. Bernard's Landing is nice and secluded but has a very nice on-site restaurant, the grounds are well-maintained, and the gym, sauna, racquetball courts and indoor pool are all very nice and well-kept. We rented a 1-bedroom condo but because they weren't busy we were upgraded to a larger one right on the water for my birthday which was nice. We stayed for 4 days and really just enjoyed the peaceful lake life - it was very relaxing and quiet. We had a nice dinner the night before my birthday at The Landing where I had some yummy seared Ahi Tuna and a large pear salad with house-made vinaigrette. Our service was excellent and their menu offered some very yummy options. We drove about 15 minutes to Bridgewater Marina for lunch one day and rented jet skis. They operate rentals from Bernard's landing but don't begin that until later in the season - around May 15th I believe they told me. Very nearby is a Mexican place called Crazy Horse I think.... we weren't expecting much but it was very nice with a water view off their outdoor patio and fresh food with excellent service. They're building up the neighborhoods surrounding Bernard's Landing with several nice developments so I suspect traffic will pick up considerably once they finish the 100-200 houses that might be going in. We will def. come back and might make it a birthday tradition.
