Being the only option around... it's not a bad one. Yes, not cheap, but very cozy place, with amazing views, very attentive service and good food, way over the average in the region. We got an elk burger (tender meat and very tasty) and fish and chips (not that oily as other places with an excellent coleslaw and good fries, it was actually good). Amazing dessert selection, with warm apple pie, cheesecake and brownie, among others. Not a dessert person but we saw three amazing desserts on the table next to us and they were amazed with all them... we had to try! The cheesecake was our choice and it was really really good. The only saving grace of Creekside Restaurant is the view, and that it's the only restaurant in this remote area. Having been to a number of restaurants in national park lodges, this one is at the lower end of the spectrum. The lodge and restaurant is beautiful and rustic. The restaurant itself overlooks the beach and ocean, so if you're lucky enough to get an outdoor table or a table by the windows, the view is delightful. It's a pretty large space, not surprising this is the only restaurant in the lodge which is fully occupied in summers. The food and service, however, tell a different story. The food is mediocre at best. Our group tried burgers and salads, and the best thing on the table was the fries. Nothing was bad or under-cooked, but just lacked taste. The service was really really poor. It seemed that the server was annoyed that we interrupted her chat with coworkers, and was very condescending in her tone. Took a really long time to come to get our orders, and after the food was served, never once checked on us to ask if we needed anything else. I had to flag someone else down to get a refill of water. Since this is the only option if you're staying at the lodge or camping nearby, that would be the only reason I'd eat here. Otherwise, I'd steer clear and eat at one of the better options in Forks, Port Angeles or Aberdeen. read more

So, I get it. This is the only restaurant within an hour, either direction, that's even open at 7:30 on a Wednesday. Feel free to charge a premium to people that want the convenience of a restaurant. And they're trying to deliver the fine dining experience that some people visiting Olympic National Park want. This ain't it. I ordered the ($32!) scallop entree. For $32, the scallops had better be done right. They went 2-for-7 - 2 wildly overcooked, and 3 merely slightly overcooked. On the bright side, the salmon and potatoes... weren't bad, although I sort of expected a little bit more on my plate than they provided. Not to mention overall it lacked seasoning. There was a bonus portabello mushroom it was served on. So there's that. Woe to the cook who attempted to put fish and chips on a plate for $15. Season the breading, people. The cod was most certainly fresh, but also a bit overcooked and plain (because of the aforementioned non-seasoning). At least my daughter enjoyed the french fries. I had a blueberry Italian soda, which was good, and my wife and I shared a berry crisp, which, after pulling out oatmeal hulls from between my teeth (not going to argue, at least they made the crisp with oatmeal!) was actually very good. Consider eating a dinner made up entirely of desserts. The above would be forgivable if someone had at least asked me how dinner went. No one asked me how my dinner was or if things could be improved, either during the meal or after. So for their sake, instead I hope they read Yelp. read more

This place can best be summed up with, "Meh". It is ok for what it is, one of the few places to eat in the area with edible food and a great view. First, it seems to be understaffed. Our somewhat unfriendly waitress seemed bothered that we were her customers. After a lot of waiting, we finally were waited on. Most of our group ordered burgers. I ordered the pickled berry salad. I liked my salad but was disappointed that I got less than an ounce of cheese, and saw others with a lot more. So the chef is inconsistent making this dish. The berries were tasty, but just berries. The pickled part was an exaggeration. I also ordered the smoked salmon to go with the salad. Not a lot of that either. Overall way overpriced. Not sure if they realize what a $20+ salad should look like, but that wasn't it. As for the burgers, way too dry, more salty than the waitress, and not a single burger was correctly prepared. Out of 4 burger orders, all of them came out wrong with the wrong toppings. We ordered the crab dip, skip it. For $23 dollars, you get about an ounce of crab meat, half an avacodo, some corn and some sauce. Again, they must think they are a lot fancier than they are, or realize they are the only place to eat in the area and feel jusitified in ripping people off. Mediocre all the way. The only redemption is the view, which was nice. If you don't mind paying a lot for semi edible food, go for the view and enjoy. read more

Super excited to stay right on the beach.. Had a great view and then decided to go grab some dinner. After making a reservation we were given a great view table. We received great service from our waitress but then the food came and it all went down hill. My husband ordered the free range draper chicken which came with seasonal vegetables. After he took one bite of his chicken he started to eat the vegetables. As he went to go take a bite there was a curly hair spun around the food. Needless to say we were disgusted and decided to just pay and leave. The manager came over as we were waiting for our bill and said "sorry these things happen, even though our cooks wear hair nets." Let me first start - the staff for the accommodations were outstanding. Our cabin was very comfortable. We went for dinner at Creekside and truly wished we didn't. The staff didn't seem to have any idea about customer service. We ordered black cod and muscles, plus two glasses of wine. With tip $90. The cod was done properly, but the brown rice and vegetables were flavorless (thought it was pulled out of the fridge and microwaved). The muscles were in a cocoanut milk. The flavor was off from the beginning. Let the waitress know and she didn't care at all. This is a great location and if anyone had a bit of talent in the kitchen and could hire the right staff, people would come from miles. Now it is a place to avoid. Not sure how they will ever get my business again. read more

I love the view from the dining room and the ambiance is fairly nice...could be better with more attention to detail. The servers are a hit or miss...service is never really consistent and it seems they have a pretty quick turnover of wait staff. The food items have a few vegan items which is nice but honestly I have not been impressed with the food. They charge way too much and do not have a good variety. I ordered the smoked salmon plate and it was terrible. I would prefer it to come with mustard and capers and dill and rye...I think the menu item is too pretentious and quite frankly tasted soapy. The vegan burger is too thick and mushy. No texture only mush. They used to have a baked Brie with onion jam that was fantastic but took it off of the menu for whatever reason. It saddened me greatly. The elk burger could be good but the portion is small on the burger and the huckleberry mustard is too sweet. The beechers crab Mac and cheese tasted quite watered down and not very much crab. What was on the plate tasted as if it was straight from the can. $20 for Mac n cheese is way too much for that kind of quality. The bar has no bar tender so you have to wait for servers to come and wait on you. I do not care for that at all. I wish sincerely that the chef would stop being so pretentious and just put lodge food out that is solid tasting and pure in its ingredients. This is a cool weather place and chowders are perfect. Why they do not offer smoked salmon chowder in the Pacific Northwest is beyond me. There is plenty of German influence here so going in that direction would be a welcomed and much visited option. I hope that they can regroup and make the menu better thought out and special...especially at those prices. read more

We had lunch here this week as there are little-to-no restaurants in this remote area. We shared the Dungeness crab cakes (2 and they were tiny), Spinach & blackberry salad with chicken, elk burger with tots, some tap beer and wine. All orders were small, quality IPA on tap, nice oceanfront view but front foliage needed trimming and blocked part of the view (easy fix). Service was exceptional by hostess and our server: a special "shout out" to our server Jade - she was awesome! Reasonably priced. read more

I recently stayed in the Kalaloch Lodge with family, so the lodge restaurant was an obvious choice. Let me say first that having been exposed to Grand Canyon National Park restaurant food (I'm still recovering ... shudder), my expectations going in were not too high. I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and service and we ended up having dinner here both nights of our stay. The first night I ordered the pumpkin vinaigrette salad which had feta and dried cranberries, and the winter squash stew soup in a sourdough bread bowl. The salad was simple but tasty. The soup was good as well, though the bread bowl wasn't anything special and was already soggy upon arrival so I would recommend passing on that, especially given the $6-$7 upcharge. We also got a slice of the delicious flourless chocolate torte which had candied ginger & candied orange slices in the icing. On the second night I got the scallops entree, which like others have noted was quite pricey (~$34). The dish definitely wouldn't be worth that price back in civilization, but I thought it was acceptable in middle-of-nowhere, WA. We had different servers each night but both were friendly & attentive. On both evenings we also had window tables with a nice view of the creek & ocean. Overall I'd recommend Creekside Restaurant if you're staying at the Lodge. read more

Frankly, I'm puzzled by the mixed ratings Creekside received. We stopped by for a late lunch after exploring the Hoh rain forest. While we did arrive after the peak lunch time, we were seated right away and received prompt & friendly service. We enjoyed the fish & chips, salmon BLT and kids linguine and cheeseburgers. Stopped by on a trip from Ruby Beach when staying far south. This is almost the only food option on the course we took. The people on our party were pleased with their fish and chips, and were particularly jazzed by the homemade tartar sauce. I felt that the price tag was a bit high for cod though, at $17. I would expect halibut for that. I shared the chowder, salmon BLT and poutine. We so excited to see poutine on the menu. The gravy was tasty, and plentiful Beecher cheese curds. They use a large spiral cut potato though. Their regular fries are perfectly crunchy. Seems a little odd that they do a different potato cut for the poutine. Little unnecessary, but they were tasty and I'd order again if ever in the area ($12) The clam chowder was rich, creamy, and had a perfect level of herbiness, which a lot of chowders lack. ($7/bowl) Finally, The BLT. Good, thick portion of salmon, delicious lemon dill sauce, thick flavorful bacon, tasty, seemingly homemade bread. My only suggestion would be to use a broader loaf of bread, as the sandwich was piled high to the point where it was hard to take a bite and get all the components together. ($15) We were pleasantly surprised by this being almost our only food option and it actually being GOOD! Throw in a couple decent beer selections and we were happy! read more

A three star meal with a five star view. Picky gourmands may be dissatisfied, but this is very typical in National Park properties. I think you can get great food in any moderately sized city, but Mother Nature doesn't hand out views like this everywhere. If you are really more focused on the food and less focused on the experience, maybe you should look elsewhere. But I'm not sure what fine-eating opportunities there are in this area. Truly some of the worst food and one of the most disappointing meals we've ever eaten. We're used to overpriced National Parks restaurants - you're paying for location, fine. Totally understand. But the food in these establishments is usually decent - safe, but satisfying. Not here. The fish and chips was *the worst* we have ever had. Extremely greasy - fried way too low a temperature. My 4 year old son poked at and asked, "Dad, why is the fish wet?" Yeah, that greasy. When your 4 year old knows the fish and chips are poorly cooked, you better pay attention. And completely unseasoned. Tasted exactly like wet, greasy dough. The cioppino was also the worst I've ever had. Cioppino is a San Francisco/Italian-inspired tomato based stew with seafood. Not here. Here it is a weirdly seasoned chunky tomato paste with about 3 bits of seafood. Barely edible, but since the fish and chips were inedible I was pretty hungry. The restaurant doesn't have the look of most National Parks restaurants, but rather a dressed up dive bar which needs new carpet and a good deep cleaning. (I even wrote the restaurant, explaining my concerns, giving them a chance to respond - they never did). I would not eat here again if it were the only restaurant for 50 miles. First, I would like to say that the food is consistently great, but that is not the reason for my review. We were starving, and requested a table for two overloooking the creek, but were told simply that there was nothing for us. After some prodding, we were told that a table would be available in 30 minutes, and we decided to wait. We walked around the building and noticed 4 empty tables on the deck. The 'hostess" informed us they were reserved. Eventually, we were seated at a table at the far end of the deck, among several other empty tables, where we sat for about twenty minutes while staff walked past, glancing at us without offering to take our orders. As it was getting colder and we became more famished, we moved to an empty table in a populated section of the deck, where there was a heater, and sat there unnoticed for ten more minutes. I then went inside and explained our situation to a very polite and pleasant waiter named Hector, who apologized profusely and did an excellent job of immediately taking our orders and waiting on us. To add insult to injury, while I was eating, the hostess rushed up and admonished me for "breaking the rules" by changing tables without permission, stating that our table for two had been reserved. Until the time that we left, the four tables sat empty and no parties of two arrived, and the many other tables remained vacant. Is this the way to run a restaurant? read more

My husband and I arrived in the area on our 19th wedding anniversary. Since it was the only place in almost 100 miles offering fine dining we decided to try it. Other reviews I read were the service was poor and the food was great. In the end the service was ...ok (not fine dining) and the food was ...meh. Next time I want frozen calamari I'll drive the other direction and go to Applebee's for a fraction the price. The salad was the best thing I had, my husband had the salmon which was dry, his rice was also dry. If your up for wasting money and have time, waste your gas money and drive into Port Angeles 90 miles away and have a decent meal. read more

I was almost afraid to come here as some of the reviewers had such poor experiences. It was for this reason that my husband and I decided to go for breakfast, I mean you have to try pretty hard to screw up breakfast! Well, I was moving a little too slow so we ended up there at lunch time instead. Breakfast stops at 11AM. Our hostess & waitress were sweet, prompt & friendly. The view is devine. I ordered the house blend white wine which a previous reviewer loved. I loved it too! I got the turkey sandwhich & only intended to eat half but it was so delicious I ate the whole thing. I got fruit on the side & it was also very good. My husband loved the clam chowder & cheese bread! Plus, it made us super happy find out that this is a Certified Green Restaurant, you could tell by the freshness & quality of the food. read more

My boyfriend and I came here to eat for my birthday dinner. Go somewhere nice, and have a good dinner. That is far from what we got. My boyfriend ordered the dungeness crab mac, I ordered the smoked salmon and Caesar salad. They came out with our food and my boyfriends had to search for the crab in the mac. It was tiny SHREDDED pieces of crab that you couldn't even taste. He seriously had to ask me where is the crab because it was almost non existent. We paid an outrageous price for pretty much kraft macaroni. My salad was just big pieces of romaine lettuce with dressing and croutons on it. I had to chop the lettuce myself. The salmon was okay. But could get better at a local grocery store. NEVER eating here again. 60 dollars for food that was garbage. read more

I Will Not Be Returning My folks and I live in Sequim and on a whim we drove to Kalaloch and have lunch. Don't know about the rooms, but the restaurant service was appalling. First the young girl with black hair (name badge unreadable) and sounding like she just stepped out of high school denied an older gentlemen a menu to take out to his elderly wife who was using a walker. "I'm sorry. We can't do that."She clearly has no idea the meaning of "customer service" or the one true fact...and that being "We are here for the customer; they are not here for use." The gentlemen asked to speak with the manager and started into the restaurant. For a moment I thought she was going to tackle the poor man. When my parents and I were seated, she left without offering drinks. I had a diet Coke and my Mom and Dad has coffee, which was cold. Said coffee was removed from the table by our server. Imagine my surprise when those same cups of coffee returned to the table, complete with lipstick Mom was wearing. If that wasn't insulting enough, the server told her that there was no way she could have garlic break with her chowder. I had the flat bread pizza and cup of chowder and I will admit the chowder was very good. The pizza not so good. My Dad didn't eat his spinach from the spinach salad, vowing not to order it again. Too many peppers and not enough Feta and whatnot. Definitely not on my return visit list. read more

The staff was friendly. The food was just not good. We had five meals here only because it is in the middle of nothing. Fish and chips were greasy. Hamburger had a tiny charred patty. Cioppino was bland and 25% of the shellfish was not open. Come on as a cook you cant see the few pieces of shellfish should be discarded. I never had a pile of zucchini on top of my Cioppino to hide the lack of fish. The calamari was fine. I have a feeling it was already made because we weren't bragging about what farm it came from. I don't mind spending some money on dinner but $7.50 for a beer? I had the salmon hash for breakfast which was a small wad of salmon stirred into some cheap shredded hash browns. I see a picture another reviewer provided and it didn't look remotely the same. I could overhear another couple saying they were disappointed. You guys need a consultant to review things. I think you have to go in knowing how bad National Park food can be and then be pleasantly surprised. We had dinner and breakfast. I thought the menu offered more interesting, healthy, and vegetarian options than most restaurants this remote. However, the execution was a little hit or miss. If I didn't hate wasting food so much I would have sent back the moussaka for being too salty to eat -- a comment I heard from the neighboring table when the plate was cleared only half eaten. The server comped us a dessert when we complained, but I would have rather just known they took the two complaints seriously and fixed the problem (which did seem a legitimate error, not a personal preference). However, the breakfast smoothie was great as was the bread bowl with squash soup. I would gladly get both again. read more

Nice looking restaurant with a great view, but the food we ordered not so great. The first night, I had fish and chips, that were very good, the coleslaw, didn't seem to have a dressing, so I put on some mayo to help. Not sure if it was just me, or maybe the grease the fish was fried in, but it seemed to settle badly, in my stomach till into the next day. My friends, had the hamburgers, and thought they were good. The next night, we all decided to have a lighter fare, so I ordered the spinach salad, that seemed to have potential of being very good. The presentation, was nice, but the dressing, was almost flavorless, even the berries and pickled onion, had little flavor. The caesar salads were a bit too mild in taste. The chowder, just ok. The service and view, did make up for the not that great food. I did feel a lot better, after the healthy salad. If I get to go back, and would like to I'd try the fish tacos. I stopped in for lunch on my way to a local campground on 8/14/16. I was seated right away and the wait staff were very helpful and friendly. I ordered the fish tacos and a glass of white wine. I was surprised that the wine glass came full, instead of the usual half full seen in most establishments. The fish tacos were excellent. The fish filling was a light white fish grilled with southwest seasoning. There were three full tacos. They were, perhaps the best fish tacos I have experienced. I liked the food and service so much that I returned for breakfast the next morning. Again, excellent food and service. The waiter, a woman named Jade, was not only an excellent waiter, but a wealth of information about local history. All things considered, a great experience. I would recommend it to anyone traveling on the coast. read more
