We were feeling a tri tip sandwich! My friend's mom (who is from Paso) recommended this place for a tri tip sandwich as they still grill it the old school way in the front with that old grill looking thing. It's obviously a liquor store. They have the food counter. You take an order sheet, fell out what you want and hand to the lady. She gives you a ticket and you pay at the liquor store register. The tri tip sandwich was well made. It was nice and neat. I thought it was going to be messier but she made it nice. It was good. I do wish she added more sauce. I got bbq sauce and chipotle mayo. But I think more needs to be added. Tri tip wasn't chewy, good flavor. I would come back. It's about $10 for the sandwich. read more

The people are really nice, but the food has gone way downhill since the last owner, they used to have the best jalapeño potato salad now it's basically a bowl of potatoes, no taste not an egg in sight and it's not the same smoky sweet jalapeños, they used to use previous. I stopped getting sandwiches there because they're always dry, today I went in thought I'd give it a try after not going for an extended period of time and again the sandwich was so dry. The bread was dry. They barely put any mayonnaise at all. Also they changed the honey mustard. It's now prepackaged and is terrible! One time I got an egg salad sandwich from here, and it had a WHOLE HARD BOILED EGG between the two pieces of bread. There was some regular egg salad in there too, but also an entire uncut egg. So dirty. I couldn't even enter the store, with the rest of the group who had decided to get food from there. I was concerned, even having walked around on that filthy filthy sidewalk. Well first time here. They were bbqing so I thought maybe it would be freshly made. One of my passengers said they had good potato salad...not. It was more like mashed potato salad. No flavor. Badly in need of salt and pepper. No chunks in the salad. I like their chicken salad tho. So I ordered a tri tip sandwich to split with my husband. So disappointed. It was dry and leathery and overcooked. They are prob saving the pieces they cooked today for tomorrow. I asked the girl behind the counter making the food. Totally unhappy person. Not a smile. What comes on the sandwich. She literally said "just meat and bread". And if I wanted anything on the sandwich I would have to pay .75 cents for each additional item. She handed me a cheap packet of bbq sauce and not horseradish. It's like they are rationing. My husband saw that they had a baked potato. Totally undercooked potato. I'm a local/native Bearcat, grew up on this place. It's so disappointing now, I avoid this place, it's just not what it used to be. I'll start by saying that ALL the men who handle the money, and it's ONLY men who handle the money, give off a really creepy/rapey vibe. They aren't friendly and definitely leer at the ladies. The females make the food, they hate their lives, you can tell they are miserable, this has to be some arranged marriage/ human trafficking bullshit going on. Seriously, you order your food at the food counter with the unhappy lady then go pay the creepy guy then take your stamped receipt back to the unhappy lady then leave without a receipt, complete inefficiency. Today I got a TriTip breakfast burrito, it was 11:30, they had quite a few left which should have been a clue but I was hungry so I took a chance and regretted it, burrito was cold, no cheese, 1oz of salsa couldn't combat the dryness. $6.99 isn't a bad price, the burrito was good size and hearty, about 2 hours later my stomach was not happy with me. TriTip quality isn't great, lots of gristle and fat, they slice it so thin it dries out and is tough and leathery. This place is dirty and crowded, way too much going on in this tiny store. I was really looking forward to trying their tri-tip sandwiches. My husband was going on and on about them. Stopped in during a long drive and noticed the parking lot was empty. Since it was noon we were really surprised. Went in and ordered our sandwiches along with some jalapeño potato salad and pineapple. The one star is for the potato salad and pineapple. The meat was over cooked on the sandwiches. We had asked for horseradish and did not receive it. The bread was a little hard. My husband has eaten there before and said the amount of meat was about half of what he's had there before. About an hour later we both were running to the bathroom. This Deli and Market has been a Paso Robles mainstay for Decades. It is so sad to see the long term employees gone and the store turn into half of what it was before the new owner took over. Just lately the deli requires you to go pay for your sandwich or food before they will serve you at the deli counter (security I guess). Good thing no one was in the store for me to have to wait in line 3 times. I felt like I was in the worst part of Oakland or Fresno because the store doesn't trust it's customers. I just waited until the next day when I was going back to paso anyways to take it back. The owner calls me a liar hands me 3 bucks and the food cost more then that and tells me to get out as he took the food from me and threw it in the trash and continued to yell at me saying his store wouldn't sell food with mold on it. The tritip is bbqed right out infront of the store, then sliced and put on grilled garlic bread. They are absolutely delicious! Cregor's has been my favorite place for sandwiches and iced tea for many years. I moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 2005, but it is my first food stop each time I go back home to Paso. After not being there for about three years, I was remembered as if I had been coming regularly. I have not found a made-to-order sandwich shop in Phoenix that is even close to comparable, and the Phoenix area has some amazing food places. Their bbq tri-tip sandwiches are amazing too. REALLY REALLY BAD FOOD . THIS RESTAURANT WILL NEVER GET A PENNY OF MY BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE. I purchased fish and chips yesterday and there was something about the fish that tasted different. You can clearly tell that it's not fresh, tasted old and deep fried well to a crisp to mask all of these. I suffered from diarrhea early this morning and still at this time of writing this review, stomach pain. Called manager and he had the audacity to yell at me & get mad! Disclaimer: This review is only about the salads. But if you want salads without a lot of dressing (or flavor) go here. I thought I'd try a couple of salads from this place, known for amazing BBQ and fried chicken. Mistake. I purchased a 4 oz. Broccoli salad ($3.99) and a 4 oz. Pasta salad ($3.50). I'm used to Broccoli salad that is accented with cranberries with a sweet dressing. Their salad had lots of bacon, cheddar cheese and also almost no dressing (mayonnaise). I could have done without the cheddar cheese. The broccoli flowers were more like Broccoli petals. Think pine nut size. Then the pasta salad; again, barely any dressing! Black olives, not Kalamata olives. No cheese of any sort. Big chunks of flavorless raw tomatoes. I would have preferred sun dried tomatoes and some Parmesan. I thought the salads were overpriced, even taking into account "convenience" pricing. Overall, not a great experience. But then again, why did I go to a liquor store for salads!?! I'm the idiot. Don't let this review keep you from trying their BBQ and other hot items. They are some of my guilty pleasures. read more
