I've been to this coffee shop I have full of times over the years and apparently I've never written a review! Lol oops!! I remember when they had their other coffee shop down the way from the Alameda. I actually like that location better just because it was more of a homey environment, and I love how it was an old Victorian house where you walked up the stairs! So comforting warming feeling! This one looks like it used to be kind of a warehouse with very open spacious areas, but ample area for work if you can do digital work at a coffee house. Lol. The barista is working, seem to do their work rather quickly, but no small talk or anything. Maybe they had a long morning? The whole place was packed with customers hanging out and doing their own digital work as I was picking up 2 cups of coffee and checking out their Pastory scene. I got an ice red velvet latte which I've only seen at Bitter+ Sweet in Cupertino!! I also got a blended iced coffee drink! That was incredibly icy and smooth and totally hit the spot!! I will definitely come back here again since I didn't know they had breakfast options. I literally only came for coffee and a pastry today so I wish I knew about their breakfast beforehand. Lol I always got their coffee and then would go down the street to Cafe Roselinda for delicious breakfast burritos. Crema is a staple in midtown San Jose. They used to be located a few blocks further down the Alameda, but have since expanded to a bigger, more comfortable venue. The coffee and tea is great here! I really enjoy their london fog, and their cold brew is better than average. Ambiance is fantastic for a coffee shop, with lots of seating options (single table, bar stools/counter and communal table seating, low volume music conducive to good conversation. Service is relatively fast to bring out the orders, but is self serve for the most part. Your order is called for you to pick up at the counter and with a self busing area in the back after you are done. Food is hit or miss. The pastries are for the most part good. The breakfast sandwich unfortunately was not so much the case. The eggs inside felt like they had been pre-fried and then microwaved. They were tough and chewy which made the cheese and egg breakfast sandwich inedible. The bagel was good, but the chewy eggs ruined it for me. I would still stop by for a good cup of joe or tea when in the area. It's a great place to meet friends and colleagues for informal work meetings too. Crema didn't disappoint and honestly never has. I called ahead for 2 large hot caramel almond royals and two chorizo burritos on my commute to work. When I arrived I added a third drink (caramel macchiato) at the counter last minute. It was made promptly by staff. Caramel Almond Royals - nutty, sweet but not overly sweet , and strength- overall good balance of flavor (my go to drink) Chorizo burritos - creamas burritos remind me of home made burritos that I had during childhood from my grandmother.They taste great and also come with fresh salsa so good! (I'll add a burrito pic next time !) Caramel Macchiato-I didn't drink this but I'm sure it was great. Crema also has Vietnamese Bahn Mi's which I've had before which were fresh and tasty. Was really looking forward to a refreshing treat to try and beat the heat. It was definitely cold, just not tasty :( the Mango Tango smoothie just had no flavor - not sure if it was just not ripe mangoes used or what. The butterfly drink was just okay. I would've rated this place a 3/5 had it not been for the poor service. The cashier was inpatient when we were ordering and just overall had a rude personality. This cafe has a lot of food and drink options. The best part is that they have a lot of seating to sit down and either read, study, or talk with people. It has easy parking behind the store away from the main street! We got two of their seasonal drinks the egg coffee and the mint matcha. Both were decent drinks with unique flavors. Popped in today and it was fairly steady for a Saturday mid morning. Crema did a great job of decorating for Christmas with a tree and presents under it. I would have loved to sit and enjoy the vibes, but tables were primarily full so I got my breakfast sandwich and drink to go. Flavor of the sandwich was ok, but the croissant wasn't cut all the way through so it fell apart when I tried to eat it. I paid extra for avocado to be added and it barely had a few slivers. Also needed something extra on it for flavor... maybe a sauce or salt and pepper. I also ordered the Enchanted Forrest latte off their winter drinks special menu. That one was pretty decent, but can't really taste much of the coffee itself. Next time I'll try a basic latte to see if more of the coffee flavor comes across. Overall, this place has a really cool vibe and I'd come back again to try it, but I would skip the breakfast sandwich. read more

Floored by the amazing service from the staff at crema! I've often heard rave reviews of their aromatic coffee but never made my way over until today. I was able to find parking easily along the Alameda and also noticed there is a parking lot behind the building. There were a surprising amount of indoor seating options, small tables along the wall for those who need to plug in, communal tables for larger groups, and counter seating along the windows for those who prefer to catch up on their people watching. I ordered the red velvet latte which was perfect! Perfect temp, not too sweet, and rich with flavor! My kiddos were surprised and delighted to learn that this location gives out pup cups (little cups of whipped cream and bacon) our pup loved the novelty of being able to like a treat out of a cup! Came here on a Saturday morning around 7:00 AM and was surprised to see quite a few people inside the shop. They have plenty of parking in the back which I appreciate for the Alameda. I ordered an iced vanilla latte which was good. It came in a plastic cup with a plastic straw (I'm glad it wasn't a paper straw). For espresso drinks you can order a single, double or triple. I liked the taste of my coffee I just wish it was colder/more iced. The ambiance inside is cozy. Lots or art, books to read, plenty of seating space. This reminds me of a coffee shop you'd see in a mountain town like Lake Tahoe. The staff were friendly. The wait was around 5-10 minutes with a few orders ahead of me. Overall really good! read more

The service here is always great, and it's an awesome spot for studying or doing work. Sadly the drinks are not up to par for my taste, but I come here every other Wednesday when I need to meet with my team in the area. The ambiance is that of your typical coffee shop, with ample seating, clean and community-focused. The only bad thing is when they're roasting coffee beans and it starts to burn and smoke up the entire shop. Had that happen a couple times when I'm here. Maybe I'm getting the wrong thing, but their matcha is sadly always grainy and clumpy at the bottom. We ended up waiting long for breakfast at another restaurant and walked over to this cute little coffee shop. It seemed great aesthetically & on the surface but upon ordering it was clear that the "baristas" knew little to nothing about anything. Not the menu, not the ingredients, communication. The barista making the coffee was confirming what to put in the drinks as if she had no clue.. as we were standing right there. My wife ordered a caramel macchiato with soy milk and after we sat and waited the employees walked over to us and stated they only had a very small amount of soy milk left, she substituted for oat milk. Retro / vintage sort of ambiance was kinda cool to see, but I really didn't like the coffee here. Whatever beans they used for their cappuccino and lattes had such a strong dank musty flavor that even the milk couldn't hide it. And when I say musty, I mean like sitting in a wet moldy sack kind of musty.. awful. Dunno if that's how the beans here are intended to taste or if something was actually wrong with that day's batch. This is a really nice location being alone or with friends for a coffee stop with a sandwich or a croissant. It is very spacious and modern. People came to read, work, chill out. This is the perfect place for it. I enjoyed latte vanilla (not too sweet!) and chicken pesto sandwich (very good!). The prices are average. The menu is hanging right next to the register on a giant poster which is very convenient. There is one restroom. Water is available for self-service. You're allowed to go in with the dogs. There is a WiFi. Only street parking is available, but you can park nearby and just walk to the place. Pretty nice neighborhood. read more

Don't get me wrong this is a great spot to work/study from (lots of seating, free WiFi, huge parking lot in the back) but the service and food is lacking a bit. I came in around lunch on Friday so the morning rush has significantly died down, and their only Asian barista at the time up front took my order, while super sweet, was not at all mindful of what I ordered. I got their Vietnamese iced coffee and asked if it was atleast a little sweet which she said absolutely to! Unfortunately it's definitely on the bitter end but I can look past that. I also ordered a blueberry coffee cake to enjoy there and asked for it to be warmed up. The coffee took a bit longer to come out, I'm talking about 10 minutes not too bad, and I don't mind waiting for but then I had to remind the barista about the coffee cake I ordered. She then tried to just hand it to me in a to-go bag and I then had to remind her I ordered it warmed up to be eaten here. She then takes it, comes back out maybe a minute later and hands me the same cake "warmed up" and fully wrapped up to go. At this point I'm just thinking maybe she's got a lot on her mind so I take a seat and make my own "plate" by ripping open the bag to enjoy while I work at the table. Next thing I know the cake is still really cold inside. Needless to say I'm frustrated enough to write this review. I got the feeling she may be their manager or lead barista since she was giving orders to the others, so she may have just had a lot on her plate but I also don't think any customer wants to continue to make corrections to their simple order. read more

The atmosphere is warm and inviting with equally inviting baristas. Our drinks were delicious in really cute mugs. Our food was made to order and did not disappoint. Mixed feelings about Crema. There were a lot of great things about it: free parking lot, free wifi, ample indoor seating. It makes for a great study/working spot, but the coffee was just mid and they need better bathroom locks. Iced Red Velvet Latte: 3/5 Much too sweet for me. It didn't really taste like red velvet, it just taste like coffee. Price was $4.75, which isn't that expensive, but not worth it imo. On the downside, there's a serious problem with their bathroom situation. The bathroom is a single stall and the door can be unlocked using an electronic number key code or a regular door key. Employees usually give the physical door key to customers. I took the bathroom key but apparently another customer asked to use the bathroom while I was inside. (Yes, the other customer did knock while I was inside and I shouted through the door telling them that the bathroom was in use.) Basically, an employee gave the other customer the electronic passcode to enter the bathroom while I was still inside. I have no idea why they did that, but the other customer walked in on me and it made for a REALLY awkward situation. Hopefully this situation doesn't happen often, but I recommend avoiding the bathroom so this doesn't happen to you. read more

This coffee place along the posh section of the Alameda near the Rose Garden is a mainstay of the area. It is a lively place with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, and has a great selection of coffees, pastries and sandwiches. It has an antique feel to it juxtaposed with various edgy artwork. The seating by the bay windows is excellent for relaxing and sipping a cup of coffee while people-watching through the windows as this is a very busy area. It can be fun watching the busy baristas behind the counters very efficiently handling the many eager customers, calmly and pleasantly. This place is definitely something to keep on your list as an option for hanging with friends, or just relaxing and enjoying a nice coffee. read more
