We were in downtown San Rafael a few weeks ago for a family birthday event and that next Sunday morning we ventured out within walking distance from our Marriott AC San Rafael hotel to Crepevine. The charming restaurant was highly recommended by one of the family members that knows the area, and I have to say after looking at the options a crêpe sounded wonderful! They had so many delicious looking options, that it was hard to choose just one! I went with the savory more traditional crêpes with egg and cheese, and the fresh greens and home fries, Most of their dishes came with home fries salad or sweet potato fries for an up charge. One of my top places to eat in the bay. Always love to get the San Francisco crepe with sweet potato fries, but overall, the food they have to offer is deliciously amazing. From the pasta to the desert, the food is always consistent and the service is always on point and friendly. I have been here a handful of times and I think everytime I've gone my experience has been the same. The staff is always friendly and attentive which is one of my favorite parts. I also enjoy how I can come up and just order and pay. The food on the other hand is just okay. The hot chocolate that I got didn't really taste much like chocolate. I got the Philly and honestly was disappointed. It was bland but I will say the portion is huge ! My partner got the costa del sol which again he said wasn't that good. I've tried a couple other things on the menu and I do enjoy some of the plates which is why I do come back. I would say this place is pretty family friendly. Sadly, we arrived at Crepevine this evening to see a sign announcing the location has closed permanently. :-( This restaurant has been a true neighborhood gem and one of our all-time favorites in the community. There was always a line out the door -- a testament to the delicious food, warm atmosphere, and the incredibly kind staff who made every visit feel like coming home. My personal favorite? The fantastic fish tacos -- nothing holds a sweeter spot in my heart. Crepevine was the kind of place you could count on for anything from a cozy dinner for two to a lively group gathering. The space was welcoming and spacious, the vibe always friendly, and the prices refreshingly affordable. Tonight, after standing for a moment in disbelief, we watched several other groups of patrons arrive, equally surprised and disappointed to find the doors closed, unsure of where to go next. After pulling up the ticket, the only offer was to remake the food. After I walked in the rain once to pick up bad food, I didn't have the energy to do it again. A great restaurant in San Rafael! This is my second time coming to the restaurant and their food is so delicious. I've only come here during brunch time, so the restaurant isn't packed. However, during lunch hour, it gets packed with people. They waiters are kind and always check on you to see if you're doing fine or need something. Once you sit down, they bring you water and utensils. You can choose your table, so I recommend sitting outside! Eat while getting the nice view of San Rafael's 4th Street. I recommend this place!! The Crepevine checks all the boxes: good food, lots of it, a delightfully inventive menu (it not all crepes, in fact, crepes are only about a third of the menu), ambience and a decent amount of drink choices: draft beers, polomas, mimosas, to name a few). Normally, I avoid all Philly Cheese variations, having been raised in Philadelphia, but gotta say: the Philly Cheese crepe is to die for! Succulent beef, sensual cheese... you will want this every time. All the time you will feel guilty for not ordering healthier choices (Tuscany or Florentine crepes, for example. Sunday (4/14/2024) my friend and I had delicious desserts at this establishment. The crepes Alba and Tri-Berry and the two decaffeinated cappuccinos tasted great, and we enjoyed our meal at the time. However, approximately 1 hour after I finishing my dessert, I felt slightly nauseous. That night, both my friend and I fell ill and experienced symptoms of food poisoning. Unfortunately, we were both sick for two days and nights. I want to bring this to everybody's attention (my friend and I sent feedback to the restaurant directly on Monday 4/15/2024 and did not receive a response). I believe it is important to be aware of any potential issues with food safety and hygiene in the kitchen. I appreciate the delicious food and the service we received during our visit, but the subsequent illness has left us concerned about the quality and safety of the food served at this restaurant. The food is decent for the price but the service is overly attentive- while I'm sure they are best intentioned, you can't eat without being interrupted every few minutes with a different person asking if you need anything or trying to clear your plate. I'd recommend management rethink their approach- the restaurant wasn't full and there were lots of open tables so there was no need to hurry me out, but the constant interruptions when I was trying to get some work done were frustrating. Looking for some place different for Sunday brunch, our daughter recommended Crepevine in San Rafael. Wow. What an eclectic menu - crepes, sandos, burgers, salads, breakfasts of all types, pasta - you name it. No wait for a table, which was great, and it's a QSR - order yourself at the counter and they deliver kind of place. Well, once the four of us decided what we wanted, orders placed we settled in at the table. This fourth street location is right in the heart of things in SR - right between A and B streets - great location! The food was out pretty fast considering how crowded the place had become for the brunch crowd and nobody was disappointed. I ordered the chicken club - my only complaint is there's just TOO much bread - and the table also had sweet and savory crepes and a benedict. They were all beautifully prepared - presentation was great - and perfect temperature as well. Staff was very attentive - refilling coffee and water when needed, keeping out of the way when not. Perfect again. In fact it was all perfect until we were halfway back to Novato when our daughter realized she left her retainer in a napkin on the table. We went back figuring it was a lost cause, but the staff went through the trash for us - and found the lost retainer in a minute flat! So, perfect five stars for us - great food, good prices, great service, and going above and beyond to boot! WARNING: FOOD POISONING!!!!! I am writing to inform you of an unfortunate incident that occurred following my recent visit to Crepevine in San Rafael on 4th Street. My lunch order was for pick-up on Thursday around 2pm, and shortly after, I experienced extreme, serious, and severe symptoms of food poisoning. I ordered the Cancun Salad with dressing on the side. Around 3pm, I had finished the salad and within an hour I began experiencing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps all afternoon and evening. These symptoms persisted the following Friday during the day and evening. I was unable to keep anything down except for water. On Saturday, extreme, intense and excessive nausea and stomach cramps prompted me to seek medical attention in the emergency room at Kaiser in Richmond. My doctor diagnosed it as food poisoning, definitely caused by something I consumed at "Crepevine" in San Rafael on 4th Street. This "emergency visit" cost me $585 -- have records and receipt of this visit. Subsequently, I contacted the restaurant manager, Gustavo, requesting that the owner of Crepevine contact me immediately to report this concern. I have always enjoyed dining at Crepevine; however, this incident was beyond devastating, painful, and worrisome. I also wanted to be reimbursed for the emergency room visit. A week goes by with no response from the owner, so I called the manager again demanding that the owner contact me via telephone or email to resolve this issue. Another week goes by and still no response from the owner!!! I've already contacted the County of Marin Environmental Health Services and filed a complaint. They are expected to do an investigation forthwith. I am also reaching out to the public: "DO NOT VISIT CREPEVINE IN SAN RAFEL ON 4TH STREET AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS", it could mean your life and the owner does not care. I expect nothing less than a complete shut-down of this business and will continue fighting until this is accomplished. This is not crepe; it is CRAP. You have been WARNED!!! read more
