If you survive the wait this place is worth it. I had to wait about 20 minutes to place my order as the line was very long. Once inside the line moved pretty quickly. We spent four nights total at the marina down the street. Every morning walking into the bakery for our morning Joe. Even eating there a few breakfasts. Being from the area I always liked this place and giving them my business. The first morning there we were told we don't need to wait in the food line if all we wanted was coffee. So on our last morning there we went right to the register. Only to be greeted by one of the rudest employees I had ever come across. We let her know what we were told and we were interrupted and abruptly ordered to the back of the line. Along with the comment "I'm not sure who told you that but I am here now and I am in charge." In my mind, only four things keep this from being a Five Star Joint: 1. The sanwiches are too small. A larger footlong hero option would be great. Even if they had to charge a few more bucks for it. 2. A choice of side. The mandatory chips and bean dip just ain't cuttin it. 3. Bake more chocolate chip cookies! I came to Frankfort to visit a friend, and when I got into town, I was dying for a cup of coffee. This was the place I chose, and over the course of my visit, I kept on coming back for their coffee and everything else they had to offer. From the food and coffee to the awesome staff, this place is great. The coffee I sampled the first day I came was a special "cherry chocolate festival" blend. Wow. So good. I'm a coffee addict, and this place has some great coffee. I was also a fan of the hazelnut and vanilla almond blends - all three kinds were smooth and rich, without being overpowering. For breakfast, I was a big fan of their peach pecan bran muffins, though you really can't go wrong with any of the pastries. No matter what you get, you can bet it'll be soft, moist, and oh-so homemade. The donuts are to die-for too, and at only a dollar, they're incredibly affordable without sacrificing any of the taste. If you're looking for something more savory, the quiche is delicious. I cannot get over how fluffy the eggs were. It was delicious. They also have breakfast paninis, which I didn't try, but my friends that came with me to Frankfort adored. But wait! Breakfast is not the only thing this little bakery offers! The lunch is absolutely delightful. I stuck primarily with soups (I've been on a soup kick lately), but the friends that accompanied me to Frankfort sampled the paninis and adored them too. I also had the bacon and onion quiche. Wow. The eggs were so fluffy it practically blew my mind. This little family-run bakery is wonderful. I would highly suggest stopping by here for breakfast and lunch - you're bound to be welcomed by friendly, accommodating service served up with delicious food to boot. read more

I've been coming to this bakery for over 20 years and in the past all they served was baked items. Back then I used to come here with my family during the summer and get warm fried cinnamons which were absolutely delicious. They kept it simple and did what they did well. Over the years the place has evolved and I think the changes have been positive. Sure, the donuts are have dropped slightly in quality, and only in that they are not warm when they are served. They still offer the delicious fried cinnamon and other favorites. However, they now have really good breakfast and lunch sandwiches with toppings including everything from goat cheese to chorizo sausage to basil pesto. You can also get a basic bacon egg and cheese sandwich as well. They do a great job of mixing the basics with more interesting options. I was shocked to see the poor reviews of this bakery! If you are in Frankfort, this is a must visit. There may be lines and it may get crowded but if you are patient (anyone who is in a hurry in Frankfort is in the wrong state of mind) you will be very happy you did. read more

I've been eating the nutty crescents from here since my family started vacationing in Northern Michigan a loooong time ago. You really can't go wrong with any of the donuts, and the cherry fritter is pretty darn tasty (and the perfect mix of doughy and crispy), too. Their iced coffee is one of the only decent options for breakfast beverages in Frankfort (which is seriously lacking in that department). My biggest tip--get there EARLY! Or send someone from your family to pick up fresh donuts in the morning if you plan on sleeping in. The Crescent Bakery & Cafe has been around for quite a while and I was fortunate enough to visit the bakery and Frankfort for the first time two years ago. My boyfriends family has vacationed in Frankfort for generations and it meant the world to me when I was invited to join in the tradition. Early morning walks are my favorite thing to do in Frankfort and you can smell the goodness all over town. The bakery staff come in early each morning to freshly prepare an assortment of donuts and breakfast sandwiches. Their selection of coffees from the region are fantastic as well. While the bakery doesn't open its doors until 7am, people begin to line up pretty early and its easy to see why. The bakery is a staple in Frankfort and the locals are extremely loyal. The staff have always been friendly and even though I only visit once a year and its obvious that I'm a tourist/vacationer, I always feel welcome and at home. Its easy to start up a conversation with the regulars (especially when you run into fellow Boilermakers - YAY). I've had a variety of donuts over the past two summers but I have to say...the super indulgent bacon maple donuts are my favorite. As you can see...the Crescent Bakery & Cafe is more than just a place to eat for me. I love Frankfort and I love what the Cafe means to the town. 4 stars for the donut, 1 for the coffee, 2 for the service... just to put it all out there! We were in Frankfort for a wedding this past weekend and had heard great things about Crescent, so I headed over on Saturday morning with two girlfriends. The line around 9:45 was long, and all the tables packed, but that's what I expected in a tourist area on a summer Saturday! The space itself was smaller than our hotel room and consisted of a large bakery case, coffee counter, some window seating and 4 or so small tables. I ordered 3 donuts (a long john, chocolate cake and maple bacon) and a large iced mocha for my husband and I to split. I knew seas were going to be rough when the cashier rang in $5 for my mocha (price for a large mocha on the menu board) but then picked up a cup and said "this is the only size our cold drinks come in." It looked to be what I would expect a grande at Starbucks to be, but I wanted my iced mocha, so I shrugged it off. As I waited for my drink with my friends, I saw the barista (I use that term loosely here) get some chocolate milk from the fridge, pour some coffee and ice into a blender and plop it into a cup. Surely, this milkshake/frappucino was not my mocha, right? False. She handed it to me and I said "Oh, no, I ordered an iced mocha, thanks!" Immediate confusion and panic crossed her face, to which she replied "That's what this is." I told her an iced mocha is a liquid drink, consisting of espresso, chocolate and milk, served over ice. She said "Well this is how we make it here." Since I had explained what I wanted, I asked if she could try again, because I seriously needed the espresso shot and was not looking for a slurpee before lunch. To her credit, she did try again. The result was pretty awful, but I can't tell if it's my fault for having big-city coffee demands or Crescent's for not knowing how to make a basic drink. To add insult to injury, as I waited by the door for my friend to get her cappuccino (which turned out to be about 75% foam), the cashier and barista proceeded to talk smack about me. They either didn't realize I was still there, or didn't care... but the gist of the conversation included eye-rolling about me wanting "like, a hot mocha, but over ice" instead of a coffee-chocolate milkshake. How dare I?! Either way, they got my money, I drank the watery espresso and had a tasty donut. If there's a next time, I'll just order a plain coffee and be done with it! read more

We visited the Crescent Bakery twice while up north this summer. We ordered a cake for a special occasion. They were awesome with us due to changes in our schedule and delivered a reasonably priced, delicious cake that was perfect for our our special day. Ah a bakery that looks like it might have baguettes. Now Frankfort is high end tourists, no fast food chains here. And they post their weekly bread schedule on the door. so I went in. I'm camping over at Sleeping Bear NP so don't want a whole loaf of bread; won't get thru it and it will get hard, soft, whatever. I have a chance to check out the pastry case while waiting. $1.50 donuts!!! Huh?!? That was for a glazed twist. Finally got up to see the bread rack - no baguettes and most the bread was $6.00. Saw some bags of seasoned garlic breadsticks, $3.50, looking very tasty and I had goat cheese and aged cheddar back at camp (see, I'm not totally cheap on food). I think they use specialty flours, organic, etc, and that may explain the prices. Oh, the breadsticks were super tasty! read more

I highly recommend the pretzel rolls! Come early for lunch. This place gets pretty busy at lunch and you should expect to wait a little while for your food. Proprietor was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. Ambience is great with a collection of crockery cookie jars along the crown molding. We stopped in on Sunday of Columbus Day weekend around 930am. The small shop had customers but 2 empty seats along the counter at the front window. We ordered 2 paninnis, one was the Huevos with chorizo and avocado on a multigrain bread. It was exquisite. My wife had one with chicken, bacon, apple among other ingredients. It too was awesome.
