My first time here was this summer and we were back every single morning after that. The fried cinnamon turtle (something like that) was hands down one of the best pastries I've ever had. All the pastries taste very fresh. The fresh salt pretzels are also some of the best I've ever had, totally worth waiting for if they aren't ready yet. I also bought three loaves of bread and all of them were delicious. Paninis and sandwiches also delicious, I really enjoyed the new vegetarian brie one and my boyfriend really enjoyed his breakfast one with jalapeño bacon. The cherry coffee, also delicious. Every time I'm in Northern Michigan, I make it a point to stop here for one of their enormous cherry fritters. I've also enjoyed some of their breakfast sandwiches in the past and was excited to see the addition of a vegan tuna salad to their menu. I'll definitely give that a try next time! read more

This is about the best breakfast option in Frankfort. We had a horrible experience at Bayview and vowed never to return, so this was the alternative. It is a cute bakery with delicious fresh pastries and many breakfast (and lunch) sandwich options. My husband and I split an apple fritter with coffee to start while we waited for our sandwiches. We then split two sandwiches, the Crescent Morning and the Robin's Egg. Both were delicious but the eggs were crumbly. I would have preferred one big piece of egg on my sandwich, not crumbles of scrambled egg. The sandwich is full of delicious toppings oozing out the sides, so crumbled egg makes it that much messier. Overall, a great option along the main drag of Frankfort. It's not too far from the beach. You could grab a sandwich and coffee and head over there to start your morning. read more

As a local who's now turning in weekends in Frankfort instead of whole seasons, I miss the old Crescent!! After having avoided the crowded bakery for most of this summer, I headed in after a morning kayak and found it a little slow. So, I ventured to order a panini. After being ignored by the staff and waiting for 25 minutes for my lunch, I asked one young lady to check on my order. It hadn't been turned in....another staff found it in the garbage. Upon arriving in Frankfort, we had lunch at Crescent and we literally didn't go anywhere else for food. It's really hard to find something better than Crescent. Everything about the Crescent bakery is amazing. The coffee, the soda, the paninis, the derby bars, the brownies, the donuts, the service. There was a lot of great things about Frankfort, but the Crescent Bakery makes the trip so worthwhile. I am madly in love with the scones and the Casa Blanka panini and the focaccia and the soup. I mean the list goes on and on. I've noticed a lot of bad reviews on the service, but I had a great experience with the staff. They're attentive and personable and kind. They all know the menu front and back. They're good at making suggestions and they know how explain what everything is. Overall, I would make the 7 hour trip just for this place. I'm sitting down in this wonderful establishment right now watching the constant stream of patrons coming in and out. That fact, alone, is a sign of just how excellent this place is. Needless to say, I had to try it myself. From the coffee, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches, this place is a treasure to the Frankfort area. If you are in town, or in driving distance, you must come by the Crescent Bakery & Cafe. Fantastic little bakery - a Frankfort staple! My family has been going here for years and it never disappoints. Try to go on off-hours as weekends and holidays get incredibly busy. I'm talking a good solid 10-minute wait on a regular Wednesday morning any day of the summer, so just keep that in mind! Very cramped space, but they have fresh and delicious pastries, doughnuts, breads, bagels, and coffee. Family owned and just so quintessentially northern Michigan. read more

I come here almost every day for breakfast while vacationing in Frankfort. The quiches are amazing - you can't go wrong with any of the flavors. The Robin's Egg breakfast panini is incredible, too. This place is amazing! We came for breakfast and coffee and we're very impressed. The location is close to the beach, it's clean, staff are friendly, and fairly inexpensive for the quality of food. I ordered the huevos panini and wolfed it down. It had egg, avocado, flavorful chorizo, and cheese. I also had a cup of tomato bisque. It was deliciously prepared and it came with a slice of fresh baked bread. Great place for breakfast and lunch. There's also a colorful variety of house made donuts and an expresso bar! read more

Doing a little touring out and about from Traverse City. Always want to try a new bakery, and their menu listed such great sounding foods. Its a tiny place with 3 tables and a counter/bar looking out the front windows with 6 seats. Quite busy w/3 seated customers when we arrived. 3 that came/bought/left. and 4 that arrived and stayed. So it seems to be popular, with locals being called by name. We were a little late to judge the breads, there being only two loaves at 1 pm. So we decided to do lunch. I got the Counselor Panini with grilled veg/pesto/mozzarella. It was quite good with their own peasant bread grilled to the perfect light crispness, served with kettle chips and a pickle spear. Just slightly messy/greasy as these sandwiches can be. Still very tasty. Hubby got the Old Amsterdam cold sandwich with their own roasted turkey, which he said was very good and not stringy; smoked gouda cheese, lettuce and tomato. He said it was very good. He doesn't get more descriptive than that. And we felt we must do our duty and get a couple pastries to see just how good they were. I got the maple iced cinnamon bun; he the fried cinnamon bun. Since these buns are so gigantic, we split the maple iced and it was good, the icing made it, otherwise it would have been plain. Appeared to be a family business-dad/mom/adult son. Would I return, probably not; all the sandwiches in TC area are starting to blend together. read more

I've been coming up to Crystal Lake since I was a child, and one thing that never disappoints is the crescent doughnuts made daily here. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious, too. Swung through Frankfort this past weekend after a camping trip and visit to Sleeping Bear Dunes. We were a hungry bunch looking for a local spot to grab a sandwich. Crescent Bakery was the perfect stop! I enjoyed half of the Mediterranean Sandwich, which was really more like a veggie panini...fresh roasted veggies with a pesto sauce on fresh baked bread. I also had a cup of their roasted vegetable soup, which was amazingly fresh and so obviously not out of a can. My fiance had the special Banh Mi sandwich...one of his favorites. I stole a couple of bites and wow... delish! If the food didn't do it for us, the exceptional service did. The owner stopped by to check in...and it was a busy Sunday afternoon. We'll certainly be back the next time we're in town! read more

I've heard stories about how wonderful Frankfort, MI is for years now, and when I arrived here my very first stop was the Crescent Bakery. I am a coffee fiend, and for me it will always hold the starring role in any breakfast meal; the Crescent Bakery has an amazing selection of both plain coffee and prepared drinks, and personally, I'm absolutely in love with their Cherry Chocolate Festival coffee. (Which, unfortunately, will be switched out next week for another surely delicious flavor.) Obviously though, the most important thing about a bakery is how well they bake, and after biting into one of their apple fritters I imminently saw why so many of their items sell out in heartbeat. The pastry was so light, sweet, and filling - just perfect. I returned another time for lunch, and had the same experience with a hearty bread and fresh ingredients on a wonderful Panini. So many of the ingredients the Bakery uses in both food and drink are local, even the soda fountain drinks, and honestly it's a taste that can't be missed. The bakery is small, but honestly they use their space rather well, and when no tables were available for lunch I simply took my sandwich down the street to beautiful little garden. As busy as the café is, it's for a reason, and the line moves so quickly that you usually wish you had more time to decide what exactly you want to buy. There have been a few complaints about the staff, but in my they are some of the friendliest workers I have ever seen, smiling and pausing to give you suggestions as they tackle the massive task of trying to keep their line short. (Which they've done!) The very best thing about this bakery (even more than the food) is the fact that it's owned by a local family, who all help run the café; I met a few of them at Breakfast, and the way that their eyes lit up as they talked about their selection and explained the café so warmly made the experience even more memorable and divine. read more
