Really like this YMCA location and the Lowell/La Crescenta one. This facility is large and has a lot of great classes like yoga and Les Mills Body Pump. Even during busy times there are lots of cardio machines. I never have trouble parking but just be prepared to walk up and down lots of stairs to get to the facility from the parking lots since this location is on a hill. read more

I've been coming here for years and can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet! Cleaning staff is always around, members are pretty good for the most part - every once in awhile some knucklehead thinks we want to hear them on their phone. Plenty of choices of machines, ellipticals, stationery bikes, free weights, strength training etc. I used to attend yoga classes pre-covid, although haven't done any classes since then. My health insurance covers the cost of membership, so no complaints there. Plenty of parking downstairs and upstairs. I signed up for a membership at the YMCA gym in La Cañada and got one for a friend as well. On our first visit, my friend made some workout suggestions, and suddenly the gym canceled both of our memberships, accusing us of bringing a personal trainer. There was no conflict, and we had no idea about any such rules. Despite the lack of any issues, they refused to refund our money and barred us from the facility. Overall good gym but they don't have ANY private space for you to work out on a mat. So if you want to get in the floor and do push ups or sit ups you have to do it on the hallways with dozens of people walking by you. They don't allow you to go in to the MULTIPLE aerobics rooms because some people were stealing stuff....but just lock the stuff up and allow the members paying lots of money to use the more private mirrored space. My complaint, and I'm hoping the management will read this, is the open hours are not correctly posted on the website, or other places and when one calls no one typically answers. It seems overcrowded and from what I remember that's how it was. I had hoped it had changed. The classes used to be so full, for example, in yoga, there were so many people packed together you had to focus more on not hitting the person next to you than on proper form. And I'm not being racist, but all the Asian teens, in groups of 20 or more would hog all the weight machines forming their own personal lines so that no one else could benefit. I'm so surprised by this gym. You have to go from room to room to use the equipment. Some of it I s outside so when it rains or is hot it's unusable. It frequently smells. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The pool is big but you have to check in weekly to make sure when they have lap swimming, and the up to date info is not on the internet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They still are using Covid hours. They are way more expensive than private gyms and those gyms are way nicer. We recently rejoined La Canada YMCA but canceled our membership a month later. The facility is over enrolled, and there's not enough treadmills, even during the slow times. My husband and kids only like the treadmills. I am more flexible about the equipment. There's 5 or 6 Pelotons, and people don't use them. Not sure why they don't take 3/4 out and put in more treadmills. Evening yoga classes fill fast and they don't have enough to accommodate all the members. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked if they can get more treadmills and open more classes, they told me to go to another location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We live really far from the other locations. They also close really early on Saturdays and Sundays. All in all, the facility was a disappointment. read more

It is a Five Star Review for sure for the Quality and value and the services we get from this YMCA. The Group exercise room is spacious with a high ceiling and plenty of new equipments. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The instructors are the Best.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have Peloton Bikes in the treadmill area which I have not seen in any other local gyms around the area. The lady locker room is very clean at all times and the lockers are huge size compared to the other gyms. The swimming pool is great indoor pool for the lap swimming and I enjoy their Jacuzzi and the beautiful sauna inside the ladies locker room. The front area has fresh brewed coffee at all times which is a very nice treat in the morning. This location Y is the Best. Love this YMCA. Kids have been taking lessons here over the years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very friendly instructors, kids learned a lot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, the management team and customer service are horrible.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When you don't have any issues, it's not bad. The swim and gymnastics instructors are all really nice. This review is for their summer camp. Here are the good things- from what I can gather, the kids are safe. The camp counselors are on top of the kids enough to walk across the street with them and when they swim with them they watch them or are in the water with them. The not so good: the camp counselors are all teenagers with a huge turnaround. We attended summer camp this year and last and it's a rotating door. Lots of the camp counselors are boys/men, so take that into account if you have a little girl. They make weekly schedules of what the kids will be doing down to the hour and it is wrongola. So, it may say the kids are making slime or having a magic show that week but they don't. Also, [[HIGHLIGHT]]as a parent, you are not allowed in the building at all, not to check it out, not for any reason and I think that is quite suspicious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Other camps will let you even stay for hours the first day to see to it that your child is comfortable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you ask questions of the counselors, they 100 percent of the time have no idea.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are also not the friendliest crew on earth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'd look into Camp Runamuk or the other La Canada Flintridge camps in the area first. This place is increasingly going bad they close without warning. They have a Jacuzzi broken for more than 30 days. I've discussed all these things with multiple members who are wanting to gather together we don't like having to constantly be legal that we have no rights on the property and they no responsibility. I've been a member since I moved to La Cañada. Gym has been recently renovated and equipped with new machines/weights. Loving it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As for customer service, I need to praise a trainer there by the name of Daniel Schuhmann. His vibe is always pleasant and he's always ready to assist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hope he stays with this ymca as it is joy to run into him everyday. I don't know why this center gets only 3 stars. Perhaps there are more complainers who bother to write in. I like it just fine. I appreciate the instructors I've had and I appreciate the resources here for working out. As for cranky patrons, there's not much the staff can do about that. The actual facility is great, it's updated has a wide variety of machines both indoors and outdoors and has a great weight room. HOWEVER the people who frequent this place are inconsiderate selfish buttheads to put it nicely. One guy literally cut me off as I was about to step onto a machine while his towel and water were occupying another machine. Absolutely rude and selfish. The parking lot here is a NIGHTMARE! YALL NEED SPEED BUMPS!!! I almost got hit twice while pulling out from people speeding around a corner and not paying attention. I joined the Y in the westside but was hoping to also use the facilities on the weekend closer to home. I have heard good things about this Y on Foothill so I finally decided to check it out. Not wanting to go in blind, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called and was greeted by Lorenz who was so helpful and kind. He answered all my questions and gave me no excuse for pushing off my visit for another day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking on a Saturday I was told be busy because of basketball games but thankful I scored good parking and not needing to walk too far. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was perfect that Lorenz was one of the greeters so he was able to give me a tour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was pleasantly surprised at just how nice this facility is. Very thoughtfully designed. Definitely geared toward families and the communities feels is there for sure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I showed up in between classes so I decided to wait it out for the Body conditioning class.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This was a big step if you ever took a break from the gym, first class will either get you coming back or.. and Elvina, our instructor delivered and led the class with so much heart. If you have spent anytime in classes, you can tell pretty quickly the ones that will be looking out for you, watching your form, encouraging you but also know how to stretch you, challenge you to go just a little farther than you think you can. That was Elvina. It was a well attended class, music, pace, people..all good. It was gentle enough that didn't scare me off but challenging enough that I sweated and woke up some muscles that needed the work. Definitely be back for this and for all the other offerings like Pilates, aqua aerobics i always want to try. And a Chapel too? for quiet times while waiting for class? That was a surprise for sure. They just raised their monthly rate now to $88 and still my pool is CLOSED. I wish they had smarter ways to deal with this time of year. They want to save money by not having the pools open due to heating the water costs. How about getting a POOL COVER that can be cranked over it quickly on a roller??!! Stop punishing members by reducing the time we get to use it for three months. I get fat and my joints ache and i pull muscles and have gotten plantar fasciitis each time i have to stop swimming. I do laps and also take the swim aerobics class from our top swim instructor Keri. She got no sick days this year because they hired a separate company to deal with lifeguards. she has worked there for over 10 years but when she gets a cold, no sick days!? Really?? Seems unfair to me and hard on her. I wish they weren't so into profits and more into helping their community. I used to volunteer painting and helping at the Christmas tree lot and moving large things with my truck. No thank you, no appreciation, no free lunch or even a gift card from a cheap fast-food place. Nothing. So, i stopped volunteering. Not even a date set yet for the opening back of my pool on Lowell. This place has declined since covid. -limited opening hours. Used to be 5am-10pm and open seven days a week. Now it's open 6am to 9pm and Sunday is closed. - they increase prices for swim lessons $45/30min - childcare is not included in the price like it used to be but it's an additional charge - certain classes like Pilates can only be attended if you pay an additional fee -the gym is super crowded, a lot of kids Very disappointed. Been a member of this Y on and off for the past 15 years. We never joined the gym, but we used this facility all the time for summer camp and sports (indoor basketball and indoor soccer) which the kids loved. The camp was run by HS students and some were in college, and they were all very good. Of course there was an adult to supervise the camp counselors. There were various camps to sign up for depending on your need, price range, and type of camp you/your child wants to go to. Some of the places they went to while in summer camp: Disneyland and water parks. The kids also took swimming classes here. The water was heated and very chlorinated. The dressing rooms had lockers. The restroom was clean Parking is free but can be challenging especially if there's a game at the facility. read more

Some of their classes are good, it really depends on who teaches them. A lot of the facilities are in bad need of upgrading/refreshing. 3-star rating (that's generous) for the shady way member services deals with monthly billing. It's really easy to activate/reactivate your membership online (when you sign up for a class) but notoriously difficult to cancel it once the class is over. They make you come in person to cancel services and will continue to charge your credit card automatically until you do. I noticed a charge that was 3x the normal price and when I inquired, they stated it was a billing error and will issue a refund. Not trust-inspiring. read more

I have been a member for over 7 years. I came here to practice basketball with my 7 year old son. The gym was open so I asked the staff to lower the basket so my son can practice. First, a high school aged girl told me that her manager was at a meeting so he wasn't available. We decided to wait. Later she then told me that maintenance left early for the day so she then told me that this was OK. I told her that it wasn't and asked what my membership fee was going towards. The staff takes pride in doing as little work as possible and simply do not care for their members. I wish there were better options. read more

I think they're just like any other business it's a hit or miss sometimes they're good sometimes it's not as good but is it worth the price? I don't think so I paid about $250 for some swimming lessons for my son and I will say that there was times, they were scheduled to have two instructors due to the amount of kids in the lessons, and I completely understand being understaffed, but this has to do with security and safety matter and like I mention there was times that they didn't have enough staff and the lesson wasn't an effective one. It was just someone trying to finish the 45 minutes. read more
