My garage wouldn't open on Thanksgiving. I contacted a few companies to get bids and both of them were independent contractors who took 5 minutes to inspect my garage and quoted at least $1,000 so I decided to find a company that had in house technicians and who got good reviews, so that brings us to Cressy Doors in Kent. I called them on Monday and they sent out a technician on Tuesday named Bernie. He was kind, professional and the fact that he had been with Cressy for 25 years instilled confidence that I made the right decision. When Bernie inspected the springs they definitely needed to be replaced and when that was done he tried to open the garage and it did not open, he said that the motor needed to be replaced but it was late in the afternoon and didn't have one on his truck. I asked if at all possible that he could come back today and finish it and he was kind enough and went the extra mile to finish the job so I could rest easy and park my vehicle back in the garage. I was scammed $380 by them. I called about my fireplace not staying lit, and the first thing I told Dave (who turned out to be a salesman) was the make, year, error code, etc. and he said it is a pilot controller unit and will come out to replace it. Well a technicial came, fiddled with it for 2 hours and told me it was not working (duh), had not idea how to fix it. I told him how about pilot control unit, and he told me he would have to go back to the office the next day to ask. Since they never got back to me or responded to my calls and vm, I visited them one week later to learn (1) they do not service Heat & Glo (unless it is a much newer model), and (2) cannot get H&G parts. The person I talked to told me he would look into it and get back to me later that day. Nothing. They still charged me $380, and I got absolutely nothing from them. Just bought a house for my mother in Covington. The day we closed I noticed that the garage door springs were broken. So I called Cressy Doors and they were able to come in a couple of days to replace them. Price was extremely cheap! I had good service from Cressy 8 years ago in installing several new overhead garage doors. So when two doors stopped working, I called them for repair and was extremely disappointed. They looked at my 16' high barn door and realized their 5' ladder would not reach! They did not want to use my available scissor lift. So they looked up at the door and said you need a new motor and track, $1600 for parts and labor. Also we can't use a center replacement track because we have to lean our ladders against a side wall. The side-mount track would have caused an unbalanced torque on the door. I later went up, took off the plastic motor cover, and saw a 2" diameter broken gear wheel. I bought it on-line from gatehouse supply for $10. The door now works perfectly! They gave equally bad advice on the other door. I sprayed the worm gear drive with WD-40 and now it also works perfectly! read more

Cressy Door was actually a referral from another local garage door company which was unable to fit us into their schedule, and we are so happy that they connected us with Cressy. From the initial phone conversation with Dave to Michelle who scheduled us to James who did the install, it was a positive experience. Our garage door now goes up and down and stays down, reliably. He was very friendly, professional and informative about his findings in regards to the door issue. I called Distribudoors first and the woman I spoke with was super nice and helpful. She said with the COVID-19 that they had a skeleton crew but sent a message to Bernie who will contact me and see if he can help. My garage door wouldn't open!! it sounded like it was the motor, it really struggled to go up and I couldn't even release the latch to raise it myself so was totally stuck. When Bernie called, we chatted and he had enough information to deduce the spring broke. He then said he would arrive in an hour or so and he did. We kept the 6ft distance and he went to work on repairing and replacing the spring. Took about 45 mins or so and garage door was up and working again!! he also oiled the parts and so glad he was able to fix it. Very nice man, very efficient and really appreciated it. Then when I wrote my check, he said it was to Cressy Door so here I am on this page. Assuming, they are affiliates/franchise? anyway. great job Bernie and didn't get the name of the woman on the phone but thank you so much! I was in need of updating my 25 year old garage doors that were solid wood, I was looking for insulated doors to help keep a more constant temperature in both winter and summer. In the summer the garage got so hot it was unbearable. Cressy doors installed two new insulated doors. The installer was great and he took his time and care to make sure everything was perfect. This last summer my garage never got unbearably hot as it had in the past. The doors reflected the heat from the direct sun away and did as I had hoped for and as Dennis said it would. Sounds like the door side is best. I had a gas fireplace installed Jan. 2020. A couple of weeks ago we had a storm and my power was out for a day. I am disabled and so went to use my fireplace battery back up. They had installed it inside the mantle wall as I cannot kneel. They said to put batteries in once a year. I put new batteries in November 2020. It did not work! House got down to 58 degrees. The written materials/manuals were for the remote control only and so I no direction of how to use the back-up. Sent email and called left name and number when power came back on. No one has contacted me. Now I am wondering if they actually hooked up the wiring. The salesman was not seen except once after sale. The workmen were working, but not communicative so I had little instruction. I am not happy and now have to consider hiring someone from another company to see if the job was finished and the battery was installed properly. I realize that they have a skeleton crew since the pandemic, but the door side seems to be helping people. read more

I received a call confirming my appt last week from Dennis.He said to call back to confirm or they will not send someone out. Called the number that called me right back. Confirmed with the office lady. Took all my info. Said we were good. See you thurs 8:15 at 9;30 no one here yet so I called. Talk to the same lady she put Dennis on the phone. Although I really liked the service tech who came to my house to fix my fireplace, I am very disappointed that the company wants to charge me another service trip fee to come back and fix what they didn't fix the first time. I understand that it's hard to figure out which part needs to be fixed, but when the same problem is occurring, I don't think I need to pay the trip fee again to replace a different part. Of course I am willing to pay for all the new parts, which I know have a mark up, but I find it to be bad customer service to charge me the trip fee to finish the job. In addition to that, I found the response time disappointing as well. I had to call back several times after leaving messages. read more

Gives you specs on a Fireplace to frame, Then it is framed to specifications, then says needs to add through the roof because the venting was figured wrong and needs to got through the roof. The SUB Contracted installer shows up on the date, 6 weeks after purchase, NO time given for me to get there to supervise, and slams the fireplace in , in like 15 minutes, not allowing me to show up in time, leaves wires hanging, doesn't leave remote, then Cressy Door Charges my Card OVER by $300, for what they say custom venting?? I had to hire someone to complete job. DO NOT USE THIS Company. Customer service is NOT there, basically a SCAM. Flat out RIP OFF. read more

I waited a bit over a year to write a review. Last year, they installed a glass gas fireplace in my existing fireplace that had old logs in it. Working with Dennis,. the sales person, was great, easy and efficient. They were on time with everything and was very pleased. I've enjoying having this new modern look in my fireplace with a touch of button on a remote to turn it on and off. A bit over a year later, it stopped working all of a sudden. I called and was shocked to find out they charge $350 minimum service charge for coming out to inspect since I was 4 months past 1 year warranty period. I figured it had to be something simple and even replaced the battery in my remote before I called them. I ended up talking to Dennis with my concern of having to pay $350 for a fairly new equipment. He looked up my unit and suggested checking for batteries in the box (in addition to the remote control). He stayed on the phone with me while I checked this out and sure enough turned out the box needed new batteries too!! Imagine how I would have felt if I had the service people come and paid $350 to replace the batteries lol. I really appreciated Dennis taking the time and getting right back to me to help me solve this simple problem. Now that I know they will take care of customers, I will absolutely recommend them!! read more

I'm a general contractor and had them install 3 fireplaces. The chimney supports bent at the first snow storm and the installer would not go on the roof to repair it. They had ladders and lifts (supplied and set up by us) and still complained about everything and didn't fix it. I had to have another company come and fix it. They installed the exhaust vent upside down causing soot to build up outside and inside of the fireplace. They denied that they installed it upside down, that we changed it; which we did not. (why would we turn it upside down?!) They took no responsibility or acknowledgement of any wrong doing. The lead installer was asked by us to not return to the job site as he took no responsibility for overseeing his crew to do their work correctly.
